- If you wanted to learn how to prune a tree, this is the video to watch. Paul Gautschi shows how to prune the trees in his Back to Eden Garden orchard.
WOW!!! thats liberating. Granted i watched looking for a EXACT how to. but instead i got, trust what God tells you, how you feel, go for it, the trees and our creator are forgiving. the thought of pruning a fruit tree gives me a panic attack. this next year i will plant several and GO FOR IT!!!! thanks again to Paul who's great and inspiring but mostly to the guy who takes the time to tape and post these. This is a gift you both give us. Many blessings
allow yourself to breathe calmly as you prune. remember, pruning encourages the tree to grow back . the key is to be patient.
Thank you so much! I feel so blessed. You have taught me more about having a relationship with our FATHER than any Church service.
And he ends with “…you have eyes and a brain and hopefully they’re working” LOL!!!! I love Paul
Man! Thanks so much!
very much! for filming and making this wisdom available! from all your films about Paul, I have learned invaluablely!!!
This is the best pruning video ever! Thank you!!
I do value Paul’s generosity to share his knowledge and skill I just watch and awesome learn! I’m sorry to those in the background talking but I wish you people would shut up ! Go to speakers corner and talk instead of taking away from watching a master work his 🎁 gifts.
The questions are great but that me, I this and I that !!! Man!
Best pruning video yet!

Awesome pruning video! Thanks, Thatnub and Paul!!
Such fantastic, simple insight.
the best video!!!! I truly understand what God is doing now.
I've learned soooo much from you and Paul thanks!!! : )
This is so great. Thank you.
Another great thumbs up video. Thank you
Thanks so much for posting this. This was just what I was looking for.
interestingly - when I took my first bonsai pruning class - this is how bonsai are pruned as well, open centers...i was like "OMG I already know that, because that's how I prune my fruit trees" LOL
Naoma Campbell That's funny.
Fantastic videos - thank you!
Learning so much! Thank you. Thank you!
The man is an Artist....
Who gives these videos thumbs down!? I'll never understand
Monsanto
@Pam Bogdan It is listed in the Back to Eden Garden Pruning section on my website L2Survive.com
im wondering why paul doesnt go ahead and cut even more the cuttings to woodchip size, and drop them on the ground. wouldnt that be the most fresh wood chips?
It's too much work. It is easier to give the trimmings to the local tub grinder and have fresh woodchips delivered when he needs them. I have a nice Craftsman woodchipper and I've only used it once for fun. I wonder where that thing is?
I like Big Kitty. We had a black long hair named Moe when I was 5. On the other video he gets up in the tree.
Sometimes it might be better to leave a few shading limbs so your fruit does not become sun scalded. The tree grows like that for a reason. Maybe the type of apples he grows doesn't have that problem. I am not saying not to prune, but to prune in such a way without potentially damaging the fruit due to overexposure to the sun. Can you check with Paul on that?
8:06 - Saw it off above the cat! LOL - Just kidding.
when the trees leafs out it gets all filled again, his trees are very healthy and vigorous.
I have a question about Pruning. is there a rule of thumb on taking what your pruning size wise and re-grafting it onto another tree? and should the tree be a certain age if your going to graft or is it the younger the better? also are there certain types of trees you should never graft?
Are any of the branches that Paul takes off, can any of those be used as starters for new trees?..or does he ever give away those branches so that others can graft into their fruit trees?
Great video, thank you. Did he say what kind of saw he uses?
Jeff LaPorte The saw and clipper information can be found on my website L2Survive.com
What happens when the large branches hit or get close to the ground? Does Paul just prune them off?
What is the spacing again between the trees.
Thank you Lord Jesus for directing me here.
You're welcome.
I have a Q, ....does Paul have pear trees and how to prune them?
I am so curious about : do you use any fruit tree poison for things like cottiling moths?
what brand of saw and pruners does he use? I love the sheath for them.

Realize energy is coming up from the plant you are just helping the plant focus it ...
Are these spur bearing apple trees? I know you prune the different bearing types differently.
Thanks!
Amanda Biddle I have seen Paul prune many different types of trees and except for the figs, he pretty much does them all the same.
awesome! are dwarf trees gmo's?
I have tried twice to buy a good pruning saw, and they stick. I'm watching Paul take that big limb off without sticking in the cut at all, from start to finish. Any suggestions anyone?
Let the saw do the cutting don't push into the branch but focus on dragging back and use the full stroke of the blade. Also put a bit of pressure (if the weight of the branch is not that much) on the branch to avoid pinching. Hope this helps :)
can you do a video showing the process of grafting?

Does Paul prune all the fruit trees in the same manner or is the apple pruned differently from the cherry?
All of Paul's trees are prunes the same way except the fig and cherry. The cherry is not pruned, it just gets cut down and replaced every 20 or so years. Here is how to prune a fig tree ua-cam.com/video/QcumqO6PvzY/v-deo.html
Thanks for everything thatub. along with apple, pear, and plum recently planted I have bush cherries which I guess I will leave alone. I'm going to try and grow a fig but in zone 5/6 N. Idaho, I'll see if it survives. My apple tree tripled in size from 4' to 12' feet in 2 and 1/2 years in the woodchips. Interesting info on this apple tree was it was also 3 feet away on a downward slope from my compost pile and wood ash dumping area. Now I spread the ashes out over a broader area but I thought the results on big fast growth were worth describing.
I always wondered, how old is Paul?
Does Paul ever just cut and drop some of those tiny pieces to be the covering?
Dads Mimi Everything he cuts he tries to get into the truck. You can even see him stop to pick up a little twig in some of the videos. If you wanted to, it would be fine. This is how it is done in the forest.
His saw cuts with hardly any effort, what saw does he use?
It was nice hearing someone hum “ in Christ alone” at 18:12
Did Paul paint his truck?
***** Nope
He did paint his truck actually.
+Isaac Gautschi +L2Survive Haha, I thought it looked like it! Looked good from what I could see! Such an awesome truck! Thanks!
Isaac Gautschi Thank you for the correction. I didn't notice it and Paul never mentioned it. BTW, how do you like your drone? I have been thinking about getting one someday.
L2Survive No problem! I really like it. It is a lot more challenging than I thought but with practice I am getting useable footage.
Do you have an orange tree so you can show me how to prune it?
No, he doesn't...
He is northwest of the most northwest state (Washington), so because of deep freezes he's not going to grow oranges, at least not outside. Orange trees respond well to being sheared into a flat-top cone shape, which means leaves, fruit and flowers are on the outer surface for easy harvest.
