One a good friend told me that I was so lucky to understand music and enjoy it so much, he on the other hand knows nothing about it. So I played this piece and asked him to put on the headphones. By the end of it, he was speechless and tremendously moved. This is the human ingenui at the peak. I'm not German, but I am truly proud to be human kind for once!
@@mrlaw711 I don't think we're much nastier than other species. In fact, the reasons you think we _are_ are the same reasons I disagree with the claim. If we were truly "nasty" at the core, you wouldn't care about that fact. And the reasons you _do_ care come from other humans whom came before you. We're capable of atrocities and brutality like any other animal. We're blessed/cursed with a more-complex brain than the other critters.
When you hear this how can anyone say Wagner did not write beautiful music but only loud long operas? Incredible! And thé Deutsche Oper is my favourite venue for Wagner. Never been disappointed there. Best sound in Europe.
Jewel of wagnerian romanticism, Opera No. 5 : Tannhäuser in E major, WWV 70, Grand March (Einzug der Gäste), Act II. Scene 4 : Freudig begrüssen wir die edle Halle. This piece embodies the rich harmonic and melodic textures for which Wagner is known. The beautiful and surprising chromaticism which is the composer's trademark is not too difficult in this arrangement and the essential of the melody is provided by the first violins with the holding of brass and percussion. No words can describe the immense beauty and great richness of this music. Introduction lyrics : We greet with joy this noble abode, lieu of residence art and of the peace. « A musical patrimony is as rich at opera that in a symphony. » *Lucien*
Runnicles is a BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT Wagner conductor, and I cannot understand why he has not been invited to conduct ALL Wagner at the Met. Gelb, please take note.
Lord henry and dorian gray was enjoying this masterpiece. Also now im reading martin eden, ruth told about to martin from this piece. So im here again to cherish the music
In Wagner's choirs, there is the danger of choir slips into the dreaded "Wagner tango". I have never experienced this with the choir of the Deutsche Oper, Berlin. - Heinz

For once! Me, too. It amazes me that the nastiest species on the planet can produce this beautiful presentation.

Not sure even native German speakers easily follow the text. Has to do with the high tempo as well.
Could anyone help? Who are those people we see on those pictures at the left side of the stage at 2:37?
