I remember, far too many years ago, hearing an orchestra member comment how wonderful it was to hear a recording of a concert he had played in because he didn't have to pay attention to the part he was playing and could just sit back and enjoy the music. How very lucky these young people are now that they can not only hear how wonderfully they performed, but now they can watch themselves perform it! Bravo to technology, and bravo to one of the most beautiful pieces of classical music! 🎉
As a child, my first exposure to opera was the famous Bugs Bunny cartoon that used themes from Wagner. This brings those memories back to me in great passion. With appreciation…
Claudio Abbado came to conduct the Simon Bolivar Youth Symphony Orchestra, I admire and respect him much, one of the greatest conductors ever, this overture has been one of my favorites since I discovered it, I love Wagner's music and I loved this performance, very good youth orchestra, named in honour of Gustav Mahler (one of my favorite composers). Greetings from Caracas, Venezuela, I really love this music.
Thank you for such sweet sentiments. Yes Wagner was a Master of his own making. And our likewise lasting love in memory for Conductor Claudio Abbado . May both of these fine gifts to the world of classical music Rest In Peace ✝️
Bravo! I've always been a fan of Claudio Abbado and these young people were magnificent. Some of them are approaching their fifties now. I hope they've all done well. Surely, they will treasure this experience for all their lives.
Or passed 50;) It's life of course, so ups and downs, pain and joy, but many of this group have done well. Some became members and leaders of some of the best orchestras and chamber music groups and some have even become world renowned soloists and legends in their own right (e.g. the concertmaster, his younger brother, at that point a very young section cellist, third trumpet). And I'm sure all of us treasure this experience and it has been essential in forming our musicianship and personalities. Daniel, who uploaded these videos wrote a comment on another video: "The downside to playing in this when you're 22 is that every further performance of this work in your life will feel disappointing!" That's true as well, it's a challenge sometimes.

I can't stop listening to this ovature. It has everything in it..... Beautiful pieces, complex pieces, passages that are mind bending. In my opinion, this is the most BEAUTIFUL classical piece EVER!!! And in particular, the violinists have their work cut out for them.
To think some one first had to think and imagine, feel, all of this beautiful and tragic music in their mind and then writ it all down for all instruments and libretto staggers the mind.Wagner is the ultimate composer, inmho.

Wagner’s music is so beautiful.
Wonderful orchestra and wonderful director.

@@jakeplonk888 30 seconds shorter than the Herbert von Karajan recording, this is not life threatening.
@@jakeplonk888 You've got time on your hands, lucky guy!
Given that the choice of tempo is subjective, I prefer Abbado's to Karajan's.

Amazing, beautiful, forever a masterpiece....wow
This was the first piece of classical music I fell in love with when I was about 13. The cascading strings did it for me.

Always a hoot to play this overture, I have played it both as 1st and 2nd fiddle over the years and those chromatic scales are ... 😁
That is because of lack of tempo balance between trombones and violins
