    In this video, I show you how to roll your fender lips. I would recommend having a friend help you with this are your hands will be pretty full with the tools needed. Hope you guys enjoy it. Also, drop some comments if you have so better ways of doing this. I had to do this to clear my new wheels and tires. 265/35R18 on Doss FF2 wheels 18x9.5 +35 5x100 in Matte Bronze.

    Cracks paint 😂

    I've done about 20 to 25 car and the reason your paint cracked was not enough heat. you need heat do the paint is flexible. to fix your cracked paint. use your heat and put super glue on it n push it back on then after it drys use a bit of clear fingernail polish over the crack to seal it. good luck

      +DoctaM3 Yeah, I used the hammer and dolly method on my 68 Mustang back in High school worked great. The steel on newer car's seems like it wouldn't be able to take that abuse without getting nice dents.

    I use clear finger nail polish to touch up chips that have gone down to bare metal. Left untreated though and then you're painting a whole quarter panel and possibly a blend into the rear door if the paint work is too far forward.

    Good video, I just did this my my hatch as well and used a lot more heat, had a tiny little crack close to the bumper, other than that it was good, just used subaru touch up paint to fill it, but I hate how the fender doesnt smoothly flow to the bumper now since its pulled, thanks for the video, mase me man up and do it.

    Good video. One suggestion for others who try this. Go slower with adjusting the tension (the part he keeps tightening) and take your time. Also more consistent heat will help the paint stretch with the metal more reliably.

    I don't think it's mentioned in the video (although it looks like it was performed at least), but on AWD cars with an open center diff, you'll want to make sure both wheels on the same axle are raised off the ground whenever rotating either hub, to avoid damage to the drivetrain. Might even need to have all 4 raised.

    About to mount 265/35/18's on my 2017 WRX. Was told that I wouldn't have to roll the fenders as long as it wasn't an STI. Still debating the issue in my head. I hate to have to go back and do it after the fact. Then again, as long as I keep fatties out of the back seat I should be fine.

    Those two little paint cracks: try covering them with a small piece of clear packing tape. Sounds rinky drink, but it is effective. It's pretty stealthy. You can't "fix" cracked paint. Cover it up, seal it some way or sand and paint. I'd tape it.

    Just an FYI you will need to split he hub and bearing to take the 3" arp studs. Theres methods out there to trim down the stud for the front and back but I dont really care removing material on the studs.
    I had the studs done on the front of my 2010 sti hatch and just waiting for some extra cash to do the rear with new bearings and hubs.

    Watching that almost hurt me more than that fender... Go slower and be more gentle, you won't chip or crack your paint. I wouldn't recommend being that aggressive with a roller.

    The biggest tip, do the whole lip at the same time, don’t work little sections at a time or it won’t look uniform.
    As well, be careful how much pressure you are applying and the angle you’re working it at. It’s pretty easy to screw up the lip and cause ripples in the guard.

    • @jakejackson811
      @jakejackson811 5 років тому

      I just ordered the easton to roll my 19 series gray wrx. I keep hearing do small sections but I agree spreading the pressure across the arch from end to end should in theory keep it from deforming the lip edge. We’ll see how it goes. I did my MK5 with a borrowed easton no problems. Any other tips greatly appreciated tks 👊🏽

    Hey those are some lovely wheels! I've been wanting that style for my bugeye but i'm scared about the whole 9.5 width and not actually being able to fit. Can't wait to see how it looks all done!

    • @troxigg
      @troxigg 8 років тому +1

      9.5 is fine, you will need to roll the rear fenders, one or two degrees camber and fettle with the alignment somewhat after as its a pain. I'm running 8.5s with lowered springs, no rub or need to roll anything just alignment after and still have about 5mm wheel gap. If you ran coilovers it would be pretty flush and still have pretty good drive-ability.

    I have never heard of this before. What exactly is "rolling" your fenders? what is its purpose?

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  8 років тому

      You do this if you have wider tires so that the fender lips don't cut the tires.

    Talk about making life easier..
    I tried rolling my fender cold turkey, no heat gun and just a 2 inch pipe 3 feat long.
    Four blisters later and a migraine from all the pressure and effort..
    Noway will I ever do it again .
    Too much bs involved.
    Never again

    Best way to fuck your car up. Although I personally wouldn’t need a tutorial on that lol

    looks like you're heating the polyurethane roller more than the fender!!

    hey blake will a 18x9.5 +38 rub on a 14 wrx without rolling the fenders?

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  7 років тому

      +bry954rr The front will clear fine. The rear fender lips you may have to roll. It all really depends on what size tire you go with.

      +Blake's Garage would you know what tire sizes would clear just fine?

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  7 років тому

      +bry954rr sorry I'm not sure. I have 265/35R18's also all tires are not the same height/width even tho the numbers are the same. It didn't rub that bad in the rear I just rolled them to be safe.

    You went in way to agressively that's why the paint cracked.
    You're supposed to go at it progressively with the angle of the roller.

    You didn’t roll the entire fender out before applying more pressure. You only did half and then applied more pressure starting the other side which caused it to crack between those two points
