ohhh I love this quilt pattern! It has a scrappy feel, but the layer cake makes it feel all coordinated still! I pretty much love all quilts that have a star in it!
Really like this pattern and I have fabric just waiting to be used for it. I knew I wanted to use a scrappy chain block and the scrappy star makes the perfect block to alternate with it. Thank you for the very thorough tutorial. You are a wonderful teacher.

I like this very much because I can really make only as many blocks as I want to and create my own layout for the finished size I want. Also, with the "borders" around the stars, I can make it quilt-as-you-go and not lose the star points. Hello from Kokomo!
Just found my next quilt project. I have several layer cakes to choose from for this one. I love a star/chain quilt. I made an Ohio star chain a few years ago for my daughter. One question though, how far apart are your quilting lines on this quilt? Looks very nice. Thank you for the free pattern. Really love this one.
I am very new to quilting. How do I know when to square up a block? For example, the four patch does not look very square at least not in the video, and when you added the sashing strips, they did not go to the ends of the block. Yet when you showed the completed block, everything looked good.
Hi Beth - the pattern calls for 36 - 10" squares. You could get that many 10" squares from 18 fat quarters, however it would leave a bit of waste. You could likely get all of the smaller squares cut from less fat quarters, however I'm not sure exactly how many that would be. Hope this helps!

Love this quilt. Next project. Why didn’t you do 4 at a time geese units? This would have saved you some time and cutting.
To use pre-cut 10” squares, I couldn’t do that method.

Glad you like it!! My quilting lines are roughly 3/4" to 1" apart on this quilt. They aren't the most consistent, but overall the effect is good!

Another awesome tutorial. What size are just the star blocks themselves before you add the background fabric?
Hi Denise, the stars themselves are 8 1/2" before adding the background and 2 1/2" squares.
