Great bonus quilt. Not having a dedicated sewing space I use leaders and enders to keep one particular step of a pattern together. They are cut together, chain pieced, pressed, then sorted into the next step. This saves my sanity because one tiny distraction usually ends with many extra hours attempting to figure out where things went wrong.
Yes, I agree, I always thought white fabric and some coloured blocks amongst them, it’s going to be beautiful. Love the look of the confetti. Stunning quilt.
Ok I've heard about/seen people using leaders and enders and thought - great idea...but never employed the concept...until yesterday! I'm working on a king size quilt and started to use this concept and I'm just thrilled with the way my machine is performing...and that I'm making another quilt at the same time! Watch out scraps!
Love your Sewciopath T Shirt! While many use leaders and enders, I don't. I try to engineer my block construction in a way that I'm optimizing my time at the sewing machine. Leaders and enders are a disruption in my process. HOWEVER, that said, your quilt stands beautifully as a project on its own worth tackling v. being a leader/ender project.
I loved this idea when I first heard it. Thank you. I am currently half way through a project. I actually had the idea of using left over blocks from all the quilts I had completed while using this technique. Because of so many interruptions in my life, the blocks on the back may make another quilt completely. I tried to rush the leader and ender quilt a little to just get it finished. But I stopped myself and remembered why I chose this project. I needed another challenge: Patience. It has been good for me because I will remember. EVERY QUILT TELLS A STORY.
Yes - it is difficult sometimes to leave the leaders/enders alone and not just sew them all together and get it finished! But in the end you will be happy you did :)
I’ve just started to do this today! Trying to restrict it to just leaders and enders, but I love the finished quilt so much that I’ll probably just end up making it much sooner! 😂 Deb x 🤗
I’ve always sewn together 2.5” squares as leaders and enders. Scraps from leftover fabric from my quilts and then made 8 patches. Never happy with the resulting quilts. No order.. LOL. But now I can choose a background and the results will soothe my brain.. lol. Thanks Amanda!
Brenda at Conquering Mount Scrapmore sent me over! Good explanation of leader-enders. I sometimes am rotating as many as 5 projects through the machine. Who knows which one is a leader-ender now. LOL It helps me get more done and save fabric that might not have been used. I paid for every inch, so I like to use it all. Congratulations on your channel.
Hi Amanda, Thanks for the great tips. I'm thinking about a X-Men Legion inspired quilt since the new show just came out on Hulu and I think that this will work perfectly for it.
Hey Amanda, I use 2.5 squares as leaders & enders but never really had a project like this to use them. Thanks for the inspiration and doing all the "quilt math" for those of us who are sometimes to busy, lazy, uninspired to do it... lol.
Leaders and Enders new to me and how did I sew so long without them??? I have a “vintage” machine so have to hold the tails or end up with a knotted mess. Thank you, thank you!
You are going to LOVE using them! So many great projects can be made with leaders and enders. I suggest doing a google search to see what other projects people have made using them.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful confetti quilt idea with us! Another good thing about this quilt is it doesn’t matter which way you press your blocks because there are not any seams to match. What is the 6 pointed star block hanging on your wall? I would love to make it out of Halloween fabrics 🎃
Thanks Heather! That star quilt was from a book by Camille Roskelly (Thimbleblossoms), but I can't remember the name of the book. It has some great patterns!
What an awesome idea. Not sure that I’d remember to use up my stash of 2.5 “ squares for my enders but good idea. What about thread colour though. You can probably do this IF the fabric is similar and you’re using an okay thread for both projects?? Is that a valid concern? Thank you.
Going by all the comments, I must be a complete beginner as I’m completely lost to what you are talking about… sorry… but I do like the look of your quilt… 😀👋🏻🇬🇧
Sorry if it was confusing! I also have a blog post about this quilt - maybe it will explain it a bit better? materialgirlquilts.com/blog/2022/9/1/confetti-quilt-a-fun-leaders-and-enders-quilt-tutorial

So simple but so beautiful! Love the optional layout too!
Thanks so much! 😊
10 seconds in and I already love this quilt. This is a gorgeous leader/ended quilt, we should all be doing this…..😍
Thanks so much!!
This is lovely. I think this would look beautiful as a wedding quilt, changing out the colored blocks with pretty white patterns.
Or the colors of the Brides party
Yes!
great idea!

This is adorable! I don't usually use leaders, but have several solid strips from a jelly roll that would be so perfect.
Great idea!

Yay!! I'm so happy to hear this Cathy!!
Such a great idea! Thank you so much for sharing! This would make an amazing baby quilt!
Yes - it's perfect for the little ones!
What a super ‘bonus’ quilt that we can make while working on another quilting project 🤩👏👏🇬🇧
It really is! So much fun to see it come together over time as well :)
Thank you for this video. I had a lot of 2 1/2" squares and this is a simple way to utilize the leftovers for a quilt.
Glad it was helpful!

Hi, this is to cute, I’m trying this, thanks so much!!
You're so welcome!
Hey! So if I wanted to make a king (I have 2 jelly rolls) I would add 2 more blocks each of width and length?! Right?! Thanks!!
What an awesome idea. Not sure that I’d remember to use up my stash of 2.5 “ squares for my enders but good idea. What about thread colour though. You can probably do this IF the fabric is similar and you’re using an okay thread for both projects?? Is that a valid concern? Thank you.
I typically always piece my quilts using a light gray, white or cream thread so it's not an issue when my fabric colors change between projects.
Going by all the comments, I must be a complete beginner as I’m completely lost to what you are talking about… sorry… but I do like the look of your quilt… 😀👋🏻🇬🇧
It's not you!
