I nearly spat out my coffee when I heard Brent say that white primer can narc on you at times. It is the most unexpected but true statement of the day.
Whenever I get overly zealous about trying to achieve the best results, stressing out over perfect blends and color theory, your videos help remind me of the most important thing in this hobby: to have fun, and enjoy what you're doing, from start to finish. You radiate all the positive, chill energy that got me into this hobby in the first place, and I'm thankful for that. Also, really like your Bretonnians, they look wonderfully retro (in a good way); I love how much color Bretonnian armies (almost) always bring to the table, even if I don't collect them myself - they embody the fact that medieval times weren't all brown and yellowish-green, there was so much color all around!
This is the most love Bretonnia has gotten in years and it makes me so happy. It's so great seeing everyone painting up my favorite faction where it used to be a content desert to find anyone painting bretonnians in their videos!
It's so good to see the miniature painting community diving into Bretonnians and Tomb Kings lately! It's fantastic how these classic miniatures are getting the love they truly deserve!
This is such an amazing paint job. You could if you wanted to make a second video going over them to do any free handing for heraldry and deeper shading/highlights.
@@GoobertownHobbiesmy Brets are currently Technicolor knights with mostly 1 scheme for the peasants, but with the change to the lore, I'll be painting my future/additional knights to represent my chosen territory.
@@VAwitchThat's the fun of it, you can make up your own lore and choices to go along with it such as my Imperium units which are all Christian heretics that believe in Jesus Christ and reject that the emperor is god, and fight for the good of humanity because in this alternate universe the second coming still hasn't happened. I just need to find little cross decals to put on all their shoulder pads now.
I love how you walk through your color choice process and how you approach painting such a diverse group of characters! Goobertown is a good place to be.
Your videos always inspire me and help me realize that there's nothing so overwhelming that you can't just get started, thank you for always giving such good vibes and awesome work! A new Goobertown video is a great day indeed :D
Thank you for both the humorous but true comments about primer effects on your painting, as well as exposing the size of brushes you used. Very helpful for returning players like me, where there are so many more options than in 2014 when I stopped playing.
As a guy who did very much like the old world and Bretonnia I wish I could be glad... But as the reason they are making a bit of a comeback is rubbish with too many factions missing, including almost all of my and my friends armies. Plus not even any nice Cold-one riders or fun nutty chaos dwarf to come, and those minis always where epic even when you didn't like the army as a whole.. Still I guess it might motivate me to finally finish my Brettonian army - even went through the effort to make a customised mount (hippogriff) for it along with heaps of filing to remove most of the mold limitations on the horses, but far as I can recall I've not actually finished painting any of them before I put them away with the death of the old world.
@@foldionepapyrus3441 I'm not buying any new stuff, but it seems like a fine occassion to pull some choice minis out of the pile and celebrate the good 'ol days. Paint some Cold Ones, have fun with 'em! Better yet, print some cold ones
@@GoobertownHobbies Indeed. My thoughts as well. I'd love to paint some more Cold ones, if only to see how far my skills have atrophied over the last decade or so... But Citadel will have to work very hard creating some really impressive Mini that would really tickle my fancy and somehow get it across my path... So many great digital sculptors out there, other great mini producing companies and usually with far better searchability for the sort of mini you want..
Man I bet painting brettonia is a ton of fun. The knights are a perfect opportunity to try multiple schemes out in a single army. I’d probably do a half and half approach where half the heraldry is the same across every model to show their allegiance to a common banner. There’s loads of ways to approach that though. Cool video
Thanks for the video! Nice use of colors. Those turned out well. I never thought of doing the bases early in the painting, always did it last. I might have to try it the other way around.
oh yeah, give it a try! you'll need to touch the bases up a bit later on, but the context really helps if you're figuring out the paintscheme as you go :-)
Good lord Snuffles was desperate to be part of this process! Maybe she likes the smell of horses? And seeing Gordon rubbing his face on the lamp got me good. So silly.
Really love the Citrus Knight and Autumn Knight! It would be cool to see a group of peasants in each knights colors. Or a few peasants in each. Tie the levy into the nobleman!
It's a massive upgrade from their previous line... which puts it on-par with most of the other good miniature paints out there. The best part about the new line is that beginner painters are more likely to get a quality set of paints when they're starting out! :-)
2:30 On the subject of horses, Goonhammer recently did an article all about painting horse miniatures. The various broad varieties of horses, and how to go about painting their various colors. A good, well-researched resource of wargamers.
I love to see the bigger brushes for the base coating. Get that paint on there, then switch down to something more manageable for the seventy eight million shades of brown you need for the quivers.
This is awesome! I just got my Old World set of Bretonnian knights a few days ago and have been assembling them. I'm so glad you made a video using the Fanatic line on them so I can get some ideas. I can't wait for pre-orders to start shipping!
Always a pleasure to see a new goobertown video on my feed ! And while i like seeing you test out stuff, will you do some random minis again ? I love how you find a way to have a fun paint scheme even if the prompt seems hard ❤️ Thank you for the vidéos and the kindness you put into them.
The first Goobertown video of the New Year and it's already exciting. I'm excited for the Fanatics range I already like how the presentation of the bottles help show off the color and I'm looking forward to their color systems with them
@@GoobertownHobbies I hope so, it's a simple thing but it helps a lot and it's helped me learn more about highlights and shadows I've started using a blue/grey as shadows instead of just black or a darker version of midtone to learn about color and lighting 😊
I really dig the paint scheme you pick out for most of your minis and these were super cool! A lot of bright kind of cartoony colors but they look awesome.
Brent, will you ever bring back painting random mini with random paint scheme? It was my favorite series, that gave me a lot of confidence and motivation.
Behold the Citrus Knight, Slayer of Scurvy - excellent paint job on these, Goobs
I nearly spat out my coffee when I heard Brent say that white primer can narc on you at times. It is the most unexpected but true statement of the day.
oh yeah, white primer is totally a narc. terracotta is cool.

Great, chill video! The number of cat snuggle-drivebys was very appreciated :)
The grass effect on the bases came out really well!
not bad eh? I might have to use that recipe again!! 🙂
I really enjoyed how good the nice simple schemes you’ve chosen look. Really tempted to give Fanatic a go as well, they look very interesting.
They look bloody great Brent. Lovely video!

Great video Brent! Always happy to see a new goobertowns video out!
Loved seeing the new fanatic line of paints in action. Bonus points for copious cat cameos.
Coolness! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
Love the individuality and the matt finish of the paint job.
Citrus Knight? More like Sir Sherbert Knight. I'm all for it. Lovely video!
OH MY GOODNESS YES! Literally the perfect combination of old World models and new paints that I was super interested in. Thanks Brent!
Thanks so much for the Terra Cotta primer tip! My new minis look so much more cheerful than classic black/white zenithal!
glad to hear it! terracotta is definitely a useful color :-)
These look great, Brent! Good stuff.
hey thanks, John! :-)
I would love to see more videos like this experimenting with different primers. I always see these in store and wonder.
Wow! Such great work!
hey thanks! :-)

not bad, eh? :-)
I love how bright they are!💖
thanks, me too hehehehe 🙂
Bretonnian Knights and cats - two of my favourite things!

I always struggled with these color schemes. Thanks for the tips!

For the Lady! Very nice Bordeleaux color scheme.
At 9:49 when your cat is rubbing their face on the light :D
OMG THE PINK AND PURPLE KNIGHT OF HEARTS I LOVE THEM

Ty!! 😀
Literally about to start painting my Bretonnians and was hit with major decision paralysis. Perfect video to see a bunch of combinations in practice!
Ooooh, have fun!!! :-)
Love it. As always great video.
Love the era-appropriate sky blue background on some of these shots.
hehehe, yupyup! that's the macromat from tablewar, quite useful sometimes!
I think the bowmen, you painted over twenty years ago, have a real charm about them.
hey thanks! a lot of folks used that scheme, but I still like 'em :-)
