After finishing this breakfast, I'd be done for the day. Straight to bed for me.
I've seen similar breakfasts but with much smaller portion sizes of each. It's supposed to be light lol.
Rich kid doesn't have to work.
@@Connetification🥴
Me too😂😂
@@Connetificationyou ok?
My only, one time, experience with mackerel was not good as it was so very fish tasting. Watching how you prep and cook the mackerel has given me courage to try again.
All the rest will be enjoyable to prep & cook also.
Thank you again for your postings. Your passion for your heritage shines through.
Side note: I showed this video to my 90+ dad and it brought him to tears.
Dad grew up in Steveston and he vividly remembers the day he last saw his best friend and his family taken away on a bus, never to see them again.
Dad remembers having his friends mom make very simular breakfasts that he would enjoy with his friend.
Dad asked me if I would cook this for him.
I'm going to make it this Sunday, February 14th for dad and my wife.
I hope you don't mind me sharing this?
Thank you again so much 🙏🏻✌🏻
Mackarel is a fish with plenty of oils and dark meat which gives its natural robust fishy taste. Although it is difficult to completely remove the taste, there are methods I am familiar with which reduce the strong flavours of the fish.
1) Removal of the guts as soon as possible to prevent the transfer of taste onto the flesh.
2) Gently washing the filets in sake for a minute or two also works very well. Just make sure to pat the filets dry before the salting process. 🙂
I am truly sorry for your dad's loss. For your family, it must mean much more than just food. I cannot do much asides from cooking, but if there is any way I can be of any help, please let me know. You are welcome to share this video and thank you very much for sharing your story with me.
@@Walk-InFridge my fathers loss goes back to when he was 12 years old, when his Japanese friend, and his family, were put on a Canadian military bus and sent to a Japanese internment camp.
Dad was 12 when this happened and 78+ years later it still has a profound effect on him.
🙏🏻✌🏻
@@Panzerkita61 What a connection your dad has with this food. It is really unfortunate what happened during those times.
I hope your 14th to be a wonderful and happy one!🙂
@@Panzerkita61 if your dad remembers his friends name, it's still possible to find the friend.
I'm sorry for your dad's loss. I hope he's able to find his friend
Had this breakfast every morning (unless I was cooking) for years. Amazingly satisfying and healthy.
They really do eat like that, I thought only cartoons make us watch their breakfast like this
The radish pickles can be made in advance, they store well for a week or so and therefore an hour isn’t needed daily. Also, make fresh dashi by placing the kombu seaweed in the pot overnight, in the morning I simply heat the pot to near boiling then remove it. Then add the bonito flakes as done here. It only takes a few minutes (don’t over steep the bonito-once it settles in the pot the broth should be strained.
Lastly, many instant dashi products are available. I’m not fond of the instant powder but find the sachets (like tea bags) fairly good. Dashi is best fresh & used immediately but I eat miso soup daily with breakfast and prefer homemade to the sachets and make enough dashi for several days. Stored tightly & kept in the fridge it looses something each day but I still find it superior to any of the instant products.
This is a hoot! The precision, the cleanliness. If my wife saw me cooking like this she would think I’d been replaced.
@gregc1331 That is exactly what came to my mind as I watched this. ;)
when you finish, it's ready for lunch😂
Love the kitchen draw with five things in it!
All my draws have at least 50 things spilling out!
Mackerel is one of my favorite tastes - but here in the USA's South East, one can't find good fresh mackerel except if I drive two and a half hours to the coast. The fresh fish markets never have it, and flash frozen is also near impossible to find. My favorite way to have it is not cooked but brined the way Russians do it.
If I tried cooking as this gentleman does - the breakfast would be ready at near dinner time. What a show of skill and the approach to the food seems to be full of some sort of deep reverence. Wonderful to see.
I live in arkansas amd just found whole mackeral at am asian supermarket. I asked them and they said it arrives flash frozen then they out it in ice to be sold that day. I'm gonna give it a try.
Have you tried rollmops?
Why so much negative comments guys this a must try breakfast for people with 72 hours a day
Not one negative comment but ok
Class vid, class presentation and NO TALKING!!!! Well done man!!!
how much time for this breakfast. you should be rich, otherwise I dont think a normal employee has that time to prepare and enjoy such a good meal before running to the metro
I agree with you.
Absolutely right 👍
0:21 he did say it's a sunday tho
Do it before steeple boy
Absolutely love your video, the camera angles and music are wonderful. It's a perfect video to enjoy while eating my own breakfast in Washington state 🌲
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the video🙂

Breakfast made with so much love ❤. You make a very good husband and a good role model 👍🏻
Love japonaise food🎉
Sunday breakfast can take sometime
by looking at this video. It takes at least 2 hours to cook
I'm going to find a Japanese restaurant and have that for breakfast.
lovely! the production quality of your videos are STUNNING, and that breakfast looks so good! i'm surprised you dont have as many subscribers.. much love!!
very nice

Looks delicious
Beautiful
This video is what made me subscribe! first time watcher. :)
By the time I finish making these it will be dinner time, not breakfast anymore.
I guess it might be wise to start preparing japanese breakfast at 3am in the morning 🤣
Delightful!
Thank God!! I'm born in India.
Definitely not for the beginner but that is ok. This looks like something I would make for the challenge to test my precision and timing
Thats a lunch for me
That looks go tasty. I'm hungry ❤❤❤
It looked delicious.
I give a 10 out of 10 👍
I'm surprised he didn't dry and shave the bonita himself. Thanks for making me hungry at midnight. God, I am fat!
i just get to have bread n butter
Oh my goosha!
If want this breakfast then prepare from previous night 😅😅😅
I eat this once a week. In a restaurant lol not cooking at home.
Looks good but I didn’t know what you were doing when you made the miso soup
Definitely doing this one
🐟
Is this why Japanese women prefer being single, can you imagine cooking this "breakfast" every morning.
Wonderful!
😢JAPAN(Nippon) just a dream 😢
Watching this after years of throwing every mackerel that I’ve caught back into the ocean. lol
I know people who shoplift food to survive…I live in the forest…provides 100% at zero cost
The time seems to be a bit off unless you want me to go up like 2:30 hours before I actually need to, just to make breakfast?
5:27 salt bae would be proud
🤏
i wish i had time for this
한국 밥상이랑 아주 마이 비슷합니다.
고등어 구이 백반 ~
delicious!
How I miss my Kellogg's Cornflakes...😊😅😂
By the time i get to work, my boss will fire me for unreliable.
Only the breakfast takes half a day to cook! 😅
😊
What time would you have to wake up the prepare this, eat, shower and go to work?
Putting aside the joke replies I’ve made on other people’s comments, this takes me about one hour to prepare.
Nah rice and fish in the morning is mad crazy 💀
Nothing like a slab of moderately done fish for breakfast, great for the breath.
Why u not to use iron filter for katsuobushi ?
Bonito flakes can sometimes pass through Iron filters as it is not fine enough to filter everything out
Please upload more videos
You bet I will 😎
Saba always ahead of salmon to me
Fish in breakfast is absolute no no in my culture. Only one exception is accepted when its served with rice.
Nice 😊
If you have time !
I call this brunch not breakfast 😊
Reminded me of shinchan
Bizare food
Is there the rice in the second bowl? But what is the small piece soaked with soy sauce next to the mackerel?
I believe it was grated daikon radish, a very common accompaniment to oily fish in Japanese cuisine
Maybe its a Day Off breakfast
enjoyed your video. wanted to mention, at 2:30 did you mean to say: “particular” instead of “peculiar”? peculiar kind of means odd or strange where particular in this context means to be more careful or taking extra steps. :)
😋😎
Jesus's I only want to wash one bowl for breakfast, even better if I can get away of not washing it.
I’d rather recommend you to put sugar instead of salt to the radish. You just want to get rid of water from the fresh radish, isn’t it?
Thanks for the warning. LOL
Terlalu banyak piring kotor...
3:40 - why are we warning people about how graphic it is to clean fish?
That's a really small serving for an adult, or maybe the plan was to eat light so when lunch time comes around, we would be starving.
Let me guess, you are American…no portion is large enough for you people
I think it depends the country you’re from. For me it’s not to small portion, because it is very nutritious and I don’t eat big breakfast.
Too much fuss, too much salt, too much sugar, too much fish. Not to western taste.
Yes its Japanese
LOL…
아침부터 생선을 먹으면 하루 종일 비린내가 진동 할 텐데..
Cat food
Most tasteless and blaned cuisine
why are you taking off the bone, thats the real meat bro
I prepare food for my princess so she only has to “eat.”
It would be shocking if she ate any bones unaware as she is not a professional like myself. For just a loss of tiny bit of meat, I think I could personally say that it isn’t worth it!
This breakfast is not practical. Who has the time to prepare all this? Don't people have to go to work? Even if his wife prepares it, it's too heavy a burden on the wife. Let's be practical.
Sorry, but I am the house wife 😉
What rubbish culture 🤮🤮
Apologies on behalf of my Indian countryman. The food and the presentation look amazing.
Japanese breakfest is the best! Even in a lot of good budged hotels you get these things at the morning buffet. I loved it and I miss it very much.
Greetings from Germany.
I feel the same way about Bavarian breakfast! I used to travel to Bamberg a lot for business.
Breathtaking video. You deserve more attention for the quality of your presentation.
Thank you!! I appreciate the comment and I hope this video comes off as helpful for everyone.
I love Japanese breakfasts! I had it every morning on vacation at the Tokyu Hotel in Kyoto and they were amazing - so many little dishes, fish, soup, rice served in several incarnations, and vegetable/tofu dishes prepared in so many ingenious ways and with so much effort! when it was brought to me on a large tray it was like receiving a piece of artwork -- I could never do it at home and so it's just another reason to go back to Japan. BTW the depachika food sellers in all the major department store basements are my idea of dying and going to heaven...
Dear, which camera and lens have you used to make this video ? Amazingly sharp footage !
I used an iphone 11 for this video👌
His cooking style seems to take so long. But it looks fresh and delicious. And also satisfying 💙I love it.
Every morning? Like c'mon
@0:27 by this time i already finished my breakfast out of the door
Perfect meal and perfect video! Thank You!!
i will be forever later for my work if I cook this for breakfast every day.
Not if you get up from bed earlier 😃
Loud irritating music. Keep natural voices. Pls
Fun fact:
Mackarel is more nitricious and vitamin rich than salmon.
How much does a Mackarel fillet cost in Japan? Seems kind of expensive.
In japan you can find mackarel fillets
for just a few bucks
you sure this is breakfast?
Yup absolutely japanese r very much concerned about their breakfast . Nd living there for so many years my fam also inherited the same thing .

Is it healthy?

Time you finish it’s lunch time
Simply Clever
Look the feel of your show, bro! Im going to try some of these beautiful dishes! Sending you and yours health and love! Thanks for the work!
That’s a lunch or dinner!
Ok, i subscribe then.. 😊
