    The Brits can certainly teach all the rest of us how to demonstrate respect! I was totally taken in by the music, of course, but the emotion emanating from the audience was so touching. It must be a wonderful feeling to love and honor a leader who showed such dignity, restraint, and unfailing discipline for over 70 years. Such a moving tribute and such a worthy people. Your Queen was so very international in her radiance, as shown by the grief demonstrated around the world. I am truly sorry for your loss.

    I'm in the United States, but my whole life we paid attention to England and the King/Queen. I loved Queen Elizabeth. I loved how she loved you all and her total devotion to her country. I loved how she wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty when she worked with her plants, rode her horses, served your country during WWII. I loved her smile. I had the privilege of touring Buckingham Palace and because my son was disabled and in a wheelchair we got to go in thru the front door. Everyone was so kind to us. I shed many tears when she passed away and miss her very much. Thank you for this tribute toher.

    Something most would have missed, the orchestra even stood up during the national anthem, that is rare. I can remember being at work on that day and having my break in the canteen where we had a tv, I had a feeling they were preparing the nation for an announcement, something most of us were expecting in the years to come, something we did not want to hear. I served my Queen, my oath was to her not a politician, I will leave it at that as I have nothing good to say about any politician. I have watched this video on many occasions as it is so solemn, I think people suddenly realised their Queen was gone, I like many others shed a tear or two, she had been there all my life. The orchestra did extremely well considering the circumstances, so I have to give them a lot of credit, you turn up to do a concert and you are thrown into the deep end when our Monarch passed, thankyou for your respect.

    I have just shown this to friend of a friend who was there that night, though out of view to the right. He said that he knew the concert would be cancelled but it seemed the 'right thing to do' to go. He said it was the most moving Prom he has ever been to but he held in the emotion until he saw one of the American musicians playing Nimrod with tears running down his face. Respect flows with the tears.

    I'm a Canadian. I am 63. I have never known any UK Monarch except Queen Elizabeth 11. It feels weird to see King Charles 111. It feels like a bait and switch. I cried during this (the respect to the Queen part) and I sang along as I did in all my school years. Well until High School. Every single school day along with the Lord's Prayer. How could we have gone so wrong in the time since. Queen Elizabeth is in Heaven relaxing reviewing her long life and service and she is happy to be Home. God Bless you Queen Elizabeth 11 !!!!!!

The key changes not normally played at "Send her victorious, happy and glorious" really pulled at ones heartstrings. And the last night of the Proms is always the BBC Orchestra but even there they have had US and other nationalities conducting.

      @@Ionabrodie69 The Philadelphia is one of the great American orchestras. They had been invited by the BBC to travel from the U.S. to give a concert at the Proms. Upon learning of the passing of Queen Elizabeth, they cancelled their program and instead paid tribute to her by playing “God Save the Queen” and the Nimrod variation by British composer Elgar, one of the Queen’s favorites and, as I’m sure you know, played at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday and chosen by the Duke of Edinburgh for his funeral. The Philadelphia offered this performance at a moment’s notice.
      I remember when the Queen requested her own musicians to play the American National Anthem in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace on 9/11. It was to me a splendid and touching gesture of solidarity, and was deeply appreciated by Americans all over the world.
      There will have been countless British musical groups playing in homage to Queen Elizabeth. The way in which this American orchestra cancelled its program so it could instead play the Anthem and the Nimrod variation to honor Queen Elizabeth seems to me a similarly touching gesture of respect, sympathy, and solidarity from Americans to Her Majesty and the people of the U.K. and Commonwealth.

His memorable compositions have entered the lives of those in Great Britain as well as most high school graduates in the United States when his Pomp and Circumstance March is performed. The irony is that Her late Majesty's attitude was, that despite ANYTHING happening, the 'show must go on' and I believe she really would have approved of the Prom continuing as planned. None of which detracts from the heartfelt actions of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

    It is a most moving and fitting tribute to Her Majesty, the respect and love many of us feel for her was also in that place at that time, and I'm sure her Majesty's soul felt this atmosphere that night, as we do watching it 7 months later, or when ever we are watching it, 2023 0r 3023 if the world and the internet is still around.

      Agree about the heaven sent, but she was also heaven taken! In the end, she did not really rage, rage against the dying of the light, and the Holy Spirit knew that, in the midst of the awful 2020, as just a part of the awful 2020s, He might call her and use her death as a chance to show the world how much beauty and unity, dignity, order, divinity, sacrifice, devotion and forgiveness among human beings there might still be. The day after she was buried evil struck back as Putin escalated his appalling conflict seeming to threaten the whole Earth. The choice is so clear to us now, and it's right that The Queen as a Sister in Christ played her VAST part in that... If we follow Jesus we reject evil in ALL its manifestations, meaning also the non-forgiveness, love of money, judgmentalism, lack of care for life or truth, and environmentsl destruction all so typical for the Putin regime ... though not only.

    This is something that I have never experienced before in my 66 years of life. The respect from the audience and orchestra alike. I have never heard total silence in an auditorium. No one coughed, no paper rustled. Then to hear the most emotional and beautiful rendition of Nimrod that I have ever heard followed by total silence. I am in awe. I have watched this a few times now and each time my chest feels like it is going to explode and tears stream down my face. Too often these days I dislike my fellow humans for their uncaring ways but this audience has restored my faith in humanity. I can see that this audience was a cross section of ages yet they all showed the same respect for our beautiful monarch. Thank you for sharing such a humbling video ❤

      Having done it fopr over 40 years, I can assure you that the music lovers in the Arena very rarely move a muscle and stand all the time. Most of the coughing comes from people in the Stalls and Loggia Boxes - there were not many in the Stalls and I couldn't spot any Hospitality in the Loggia Boxes. The best Nimrod I ever heard was played as an encore for Jaqueline DuPre who was in the audience.

    The piece Nimrod was written by Elgar as a funeral march in memory of his friend, Her Majesty's Great Grandfather, Edward VII who died in 1910.

      Actually, the Enigma Variations had their first performance in 1899, 3 years before Queen Victoria's death. It may have been played at EdwardVII's funeral, but wasn't written for it - it is dedicated to Elgar's music editor Augustus Jaeger (German for hunter - Nimrod was the 'mighty hunter')

    • @dalemac614
      @dalemac614 Рік тому +6

      @@simbee3634 agreed I think the confusion was his pomp and circumstance which he did write for the fanfare exit of the Abby for Edward VIIs coronation . The only funeral march that was written for an English monarch was by Henry Purcell for Queen Mary II in 1695, it’s quite nice not sure why they don’t use it.

    En France également nous avons apprécié votre reine , La Reine , car il n'y en avait qu'une , Elisabeth II , qui nous a accompagné tout au long de notre vie ! Lors d'une de ses- nombreuses- venues dans notre pays , elle a inauguré à Paris la plaque portant son nom au marché aux fleurs non loin de Notre-Dame. Quel autre lieu pouvait lui rendre mieux hommage, elle qui aimait tant les jardins ! Quand les parisiens passeront par là ils auront une pensée émue pour cette reine francophile d'un pays qui nous deteste cordialement ! NIMROD porte élégamment cet hommage !
