KSP: Stock Articulated Duna Rover!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2022
- In today's KSP adventure, I try and put my rover building skills to the test, by building a vehicle that can successfully navigate the rocky lands of Duna with the new Parallax 2 mod! Oh, and we'll be bringing a single-launch surface base that will need to deploy the Rover skycrane style, before needing to safely land itself. Why do I make things so difficult for myself...

Ah yes, the Matt catchphrase “if you were to draw a line from kerbin to the sun to duna, the angle at which the lines would meet should be about 45 degrees”
this comment made me laugh out loud and it's 12:22
Perfect narration from Matt himself as I read that as well 😅😅
Whassup
thanks for keeping up the tradition of explaining the duna transfer window
the problem is your reaction wheels are still activated on the rover so when you bind forward and left and right to WASD every time you drive forward you also pitch down so when you hit a rock you instantly cartwheel forward.
This might be it. I did do some tests without the SAS wheels tbf and it did perform similarly. I add SAS wheels to rovers to that they can flip themselves back over if they roll
@@MattLowne Congrats on 500k Matt, i love your vids btw
@@MattLowne I mean, that's understandable but you also have a case of double input. You could either use a different set of keys for rover controls or turn them off while driving. thought I think if you pitch up while driving forward, that should help a lot with gently bouncing over bigger rocks, you'll just be doing wheelies a lot. That's still better than nose to ground headstands though.
Reacton wheels can be set to normal, SAS only and pilot only modes. When I was driving a few hundred km on Duna (before Paralax), I used acton group 1 to change between the modes. I drowe with SAS only and when something went wrong I quickly change to normal mode.
@@MattLowne Set the reaction wheels to SAS only, activate SAS and you should be able to keep your rover upright using one of the SAS options(which one depends on how you built your craft)
Challenge Idea:
Bring all your kerbals back in ONE mission
jesus christ
my thoughts exactly
get a massive space station, im sure the kraken wont mind at all
😯
dear lord
The fact that Matt has people on channel who haven't seen his ksp content is a good sign for the channel.
I disagree
@@sachathehuman4234 How would it be a bad sign?
All those people biking to discount whiskey are gonna enjoy KSP.
Nice to see some new KSP mods are still coming out even now. I haven't actually been playing KSP for a while now, but I almost never had problems with skidding from bases or rovers after I started adding "ground brakes" to them consisting of a an alligator hinge, a strut as a spacer, and a suitable grip pad. position two of those at front and rear of vehicle such that when the hinges are extended fully, the grip pads take the wheels or landing gear of the craft off the ground.
Presto! no more skids when parked and an effective emergency brake that works even when the wheels have locked up and you're sliding headlong towards a bad crash. I usually bind the hinge's toggling to the otherwise unused gear action group for rovers. If you're building a rover for Minmus or any other low gravity destination, I highly recommend adding a pair, It's a lifesaver on mountains.
Honestly I should get back into KSP now that I have a computer that isn't made with hand-me-down components. (for those who care, It's a Ryzen 5800X3D paired with a 3080 12 gigabyte, thing's a beast) modded KSP should be a suitable torture test for it.
Whoa, cool pc
Lol, "Nothing bad happened at the end"....yep, nothing to see there! That was great man.
Matt:"nothing bad happened at the end"
Reality: *kebals roll over and get eviscerated*
Sounds like you just decided to provide a Blunderbirds rescue mission…
…of literally *every* Kerbal you’ve delivered to another Celestial body in the Kerbin system.
NO WAY MATT UPLOADED KSP
imagine he makes a giant ship to find and take home all the kerbals on every planet in one go!
My day just got 2 times better!
If only there were a crack team of kerbonauts dedicated to saving the kerbal race one stranded explorer at a time. Just need a catchy name...
The Blunderbirds!
the blunder whales
Do ksp real solar system,rp1 and realism overhaul now matt i know it's hard but you need to do it
We need to see Eve! If your reading this Matt, you know what to do!
Matt always seems to have such an original idea when he uploads ksp!
actually it was fom(the idea) comes from the shadow zone ^_^
@@Meowzofficial ikr lol
@@Meowzofficial shadows was individual robotic arm suspension. Same problem, different solution. Equally borked by KSP wheel physics.
Congrats on 500k
Very cool parallax I love it
Nice one Matt. If you're interested in vehicles like this, check out The Chieftain's video on the Lockheed XM-808 Twister. That had two bodies, each with four wheels, connected by a powered yoke that allowed the front body to yaw, pitch and roll relative to the back one. The front body's wheels had normal independent suspension, but the rear body's were on a 'walking beam' setup that kept all four of them on the ground however much the rear body pitched. It was a really cool vehicle with a lot of potential.
Splendid, we need more parallax 2, but my pc can barely run with it with often crashing.
You can turn down settings in the config
@@linecraftman3907 thank you so much, I'm new with modding ksp so I don't know a lot, got ckan just a few days ago.
You can run KSP??? with all expansions??? With Mods??? OP PC Dude
@@agamjotbindra4875 I got a good gpu but a very weak cpu, the i3 6600
@@antoniolozic1517 its either a i3 6300 or i5 6600. i3 6600 doesnt exist
Amazing video
There's a great mod called Parking Brake that lets you "lightly freeze" vessels in place when they're landed, sort of like the Stamp-O-Tron, IIRC Breaking Ground parts still move correctly on parked vessels.
Hearing the Kerbin-Duna transfer window again was very, nostalgic.
My first landing on Duna ever was because I remembered you talking about a Duna transfer window
7:47 thats where our transfer window stuff is great to see it once more always reminds me.
13:50 you can do it in counsel go to the menus and press the button that normally hides the ui, really useful for screenshots
Would love to see more Rover designs that can be used with the new Parallax 2 mod! KSP physics is a tricky Beast!
Has parallax encountered any Kraken?
that's actually crazy to me that people came from space this week. I started playing ksp 14 and a half weeks before you uploaded your first space this week. For me, after watching a good portion of your work, it was an addition to a channel that would mainly get it's viewers from ksp. Then now, your space news source is attracting people to your channel.
Also discount whiskey
@@Kevin-hb7yq yeah, i thought most people were flowing into matt's channel for his whiskey videos with ksp in the background
Great to see kerbal shenanigans!
Have a good weekend everyone.
Matt When you grab equipable item hover it over the slot you want to place it in and hold alt and click.. you instantly place full stack of it, I saw you were dragging one by one ;) Cheers!!
11:38 you should do a series of videos where you go and visit some of your old bases and swap the crews out for new kerbals and bring the old ones back to kerbin.
"It turns out KSP physics - I know, shocker - is not perfect." Oh, we've known that for YEARS.
Sick bro!!
Honey wake up matt Lowne uploaded a ksp video
14:45 The Kerbal actually survived, he's just standing there
It's great how a nice visual mod can update a game and make you revisit it.
YESSSSS A KSP VIDEO (I love your space videos too but this is always a blast, I get to learn about my favorite videogame)
Fantastic content Matt! I'll be having a look at this Parallax 2 mod for KSP2.
My entire Kerbal Space Program experience was defined the same way as your lander, very dumb but pretty cool.
Cheers!!
Congrats on 500k subscribers matt!🎉
Sounds like an excuse to bring back the blunderbirds. To go and rescue all the kerbals that you have stranded.
Hey matt, i really enjoy this parallax 2.0 content, its nice that you started to do again ksp video!
Wow, I didn't know you did commentary's on your second channel. I love listening to you rambling, I am going to watch all those videos now
Hi matt! I really enjoyed the parallax videos and I'm wondering if you would do more mod videos. Two I'd reccomen you try out are airplaneplus and tweakscale.
I want to see Matt try out Outer Planets Mod
Wait a minitue I know you
@@admiralfluffy42 Found me! lol
YES!!!! MORE KERBAL!!!!!
looking forward to your big mission~!
7:30 HE SAID THE THING!
That is an idea for a video (or two), a complete recall to home of all kerbins.
Always a pleasure when Matt uploads
allow me to introduce myself as the one that "Roughly 45 degrees for the Duna transfer" has Ironically helped.
Many months ago but still.
MOAR KSP!!!
It helped me my first time so thanks matt
great vid as always, love the high quality ksp content !
I was coming to UA-cam to find a base/rover mission to Duna and so excited to find a NEW videos with exactly that!
I hear Matt saying the Duna transfer window monologue in my sleep
Happy 500 thousand, Matt!
You should go to Pol next. The spikes will make a very interesting landing!
The duna transfer window meme taught me that so keep doing it👍🏻
Very nice!
Yep, I missed his KSP ramblings. Good video.
Gz on 500k!
Great job on 500k subs Matt you deserve all of them 👍
I could not build anything like this in ksp, good job!
Great Music, just right for a Great Video
My PC when running Parallax 2 = same temp as Kerbol
Yeah.
Matt, PLEAAASE do a video going to Eve with parallax 2. The textures are INSANE
You could do a mission where you save every kerbal you've left stranded somewhere in one go
Blunderbirds, Go!
Can you do the lunar gateway around the mun
just after he leaves the sphere of influence of kerben Matt "kerbin to duna tra...." Every single subscriber "here we go again"
yeah dude you’re the only reason i remember the kerbin duna transfer window
2ksp vids in a week! What is this a Christmas miracle!
Sick Build
Awesome dude i love the suspension
Nice 😃 good job
With the size of those rocks, you definitely need bigger tires. Rule of thumb, a tire can only top an obstacle 1/3 of its radius. Those rocks are quite a bit bigger than that. Plus the issue that @Mike234 pointed out with the reaction wheels. Fun looking buggy, though!
Yes! He's back!
Would you be interested in sort of a reboot of blunder birds? Been a while since any of those
Very kewl
Happy 500 thousand subs Matt!!!
Thanks Matt! I'm astonished with how creative your videos still are :)) I would be so bored in this game, if it wasn't for you !
he legend has returned
congrats on the 500k !!!!!
Amazing
If you turn on manual friction control for the wheels you can adjust it upwards until your rover stops sliding around.
You should download the parking brake to avoid base sliding (and even for rovers) It works rly good :)
Video idea -- just before KSP2 comes out and you shelve KSP1 forever, do one last Blunderbirds episode rescuing all of the poor poor Kerbals you have stranded in bases across the system 😆
So, the thing about this kind of axle setup is it's generally pretty trash when speed is involved. Most of those rock crawlers are doing just that: crawling, and with very low pressure in their tires. Modern high-speed off-road vehicles (rally cars, baja trucks) use independent suspension for numerous reasons. For one, the ability of the bumped wheel to react to bumps is substantially improved by not having to move the wheel on the opposite side of the vehicle as well. This concept is known as "unsprung weight", and it is very, very important to consider when moving with anything resembling speed.
Yay a new vid KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK Lowne
Woohoo!! 500k!!!
MATT!!! The space dolphins at Duna!!!
I was never interested in the Parallax mod because of glitches and no collisions, so I wasn't at all interested when 2.0 came out either. Now that I hear there ARE collisions, I am suddenly interested. :D
Congrats on half a million subs!!
Two video ideas: a rover using friction pads as tires or tire segments, and a complete crew rotation in one mission/launch/craft.
I love this
congrats on 500K Subs Matt!!
Tilting the front wheels backward just a bit to give the suspension a better angle might help it fare a bit better with the stones. Think of the angle of the front fork of a motorcycle or mountain bike.
I've waited awhile for another ksp video
Congrats on 500k subscribers!
Happy 500K!
Kongrats for 500k
