Matt my goodness bro you rock! Your truly the best man your videos are amazingly consistent and this is the earliest I’ve seen a video since it’s been posted. You basically taught me how to play this game thank you soo much man. I love seeing these videos every time then hopping on my game and trying to pull it off in my campaign. I get cheeky once I’ve unlocked the first Guidance Units and adjust their spot to inside the lander cans. That way all my ships can avoid any worry of a Kerbal blacking out or having to have a pilot. I take trips with my scientist then engineers when I got guidance systems inside the ships.
I remember my astrophysics lecturer at college. Although he was a great tutor and very affable he did have one unsavoury problem. You are aware no doubt of the ability to gauge a tree's age by counting the rings of it's trunk......well you could tell how many days my tutor had worn his jacket by the rings underneath his armpits. All of us students found this comical if not a little gross. However he was an excellent tutor as I say. I failed the course due to my inability to grasp the basics of mathematics. Shame. I did however learn some very interesting facts about space and space travel. Have a great day folks :)
An idea for an build could be a walking rover that can walkaround matt Lowne island on Lathe but then use hinges or fuel transfers to turn it in to a water rover or submarine (that could ether use propellers to zoom across the see or maybe use the buoyancy parts that could come down and walk across the water. or what ever amassing idea you come up with)
Guys if you don’t know what delta V is (as I didn’t before taking physics and figuring it out myself) Delta in science means “change in” you usually figure this out by taking two measurements, one at the start and one at the end and taking the first away from the last. V means “velocity” in meters per second (how fast it goes) Delta V means “Change in velocity”, or how much ability the spacecraft has to change its velocity. So if we were going 1000m/s in a direction, and wanted to turn around, and our craft had 1000 Delta V, we could get ourselves to a standstill, but we wouldn’t be able to accelerate in the opposite direction because we’ve run out of fuel. It’s a measure of how much change in velocity the rocket has left.
As always with cutting edge rocket science tech, the soviets tried it first. Re-entry is actually faster with the wings more angled, because that sort of design will happily sit at much higher angle of attacks. You were coming in at about 20', where you actually want to be more like 60'. My 'go to' space camp vessel is a big cockpit and two passenger modules with wings angled up at about 45', and you can leave that without SAS and no inputs and it will fly in at 60' AoA happily. Another thing cool about that sort of craft is that the wings can fold back far enough to fit inside a 2.5m fairing. One of the major problems with space planes is that manned payloads really want to be at the top of the stack, but wings really don't.
I replicated this, and for some reason I have issues with stability and landing as if the jet is simply not strong enough. I do hope you do some more mini-spaceplanes like you mentioned, I too have had a lot of fun with this particular design.
You can use the Stage Recovery mod to recover an air launch vehicle, if you exploit the powered landing mechanics a bit. Just make sure it has a rocket or SABRE engine on it, and a fuel tank with about 200 dv of LFO in it, and lock the fuel tank so the fuel isn't used in the flight. The mod will recognize the 200dv and recover the launch plane.
Matt! I figured out a pure stock method of doing things like booster landings/air launches without FMRS! Basically using quicksaves and save file editing to splice together the 2 saves of the spacecraft in orbit and the bomber landed, basically what FMRS does manually. Bob didn't have to die....
i like sending probes to places. always have. especially the first little while i was playing KSP, i used alot of probes to figure out things before i tried crewed missions.
im sure it would be possible, if not hard, but maybe a way to prevent further launch plane crashes in the future would be to deploy a small spaceplane from an SSTO. launch a big SSTO plane into orbit, open a cargo bay, and send a smaller plane out to go to planets.

You really should use FMRS for the reusable vessels, it allows you to land both without killing as many kerbals.
I swear to god, the Soviet engineers were like the earths kerbals
For the landing (or lack of) of bob’s jet, maybe do it like stratzenblitz where it’s a split screen of both things happening
Appreciate you taking the time to make these videos and bring new people into the wonderful world of kerbal.
I remember reading about the MiG105-11 in a book: had no idea how badass the launch system was! Excellent mission and craft design Matt!
