I highly hope SA-X is brought back in the future. As much as i'm a fan of Ridley, Samus Aran-X is my all time favorite Metroid villian. What is better than a boss who is basically your CLONE?
Love the small detail between Samus and the SA-X... where one holds the cannon underneath, just to highlight the difference between them further, the other holds the weapon from above.
Believe it or not, the first cutscene with sa-x FREAKED ME OUT AS A KID. But the thing is: that cutscene actually prevented me from continuing the game. I feared that the game would show that face again. So, I'd often reset the game progress. Now, I want to replay it again. But one side of me says: "OH GOD I DON'T WANT TO SEE THAT FACE AGAIN!".
I remember a point when the ship AI said: "The SA-X is following you." I inmediately saved the game and turned it off. I didn't play again until my older cousin did that section for me.
The best part is, when I had this game, I was so scared by the atmosphere alone that I didn't reach the first enemy. I have no idea where that cartridge is now. It's a shame.
It's also worth mentioning that the Federation KNOWS about SA-X. If you think about the upgrades they give you, even though they could get you back to full power they intentionally keep you from acquiring the gear needed to damage the SA-X because they want to capture it and weaponize it... A lot like "Alien." I beleive it was also mentioned that there were multiple SA-X on the station. As to the final boos, it's almost natural that the SA-X would go after the Alpha Metroid. SA-X is simultaneously a copy of Samus and an X_Parasite. One's natural predator was the Metroid while the other just about wiped out the metroid.
Петр Распутин She's also really strong and agile because she runs around in that suit all day, has trained ever since she was a child and is partly chozo
Came here after seeing Metroid Dread trailer. Meeting SA-X was already a horror and anxiety ensuring moment in this Fusion, now in Dread it will be multiplied..........
The EMMI robots, according to Sakamoto, were heavily inspired by the SA-X. He knew the iconic X mimic had a great impact on the franchise - an unkillable enemy that you have to constantly flee from. And now there's going to be 7 of them in Dread...
It isn't really that old. It was GBA. And, while I love the Prime games, which you should try, I don't think a 2D Metroid would translate well into a 3D Metroid. If you want an AMAZING 3D Metroid, you can get Prime on the GameCube, the Wii Collection, or the Wii Collection digital on Wii U.
+Victor Hernandez Impossible because A: The SA-X was absorbed by Samus during her fight with the Omega Metroid. B: The space station the other SA-X's were on was destroyed, wiping them all out. And C: In addition to the station being destroyed, the X Parasite's homeworld, SR-388, was also destroyed in the explosion, wiping out the X Parasites.
When I was around seven years of age, the first encounter with SA-X FREAKED me and my cousin OUT. I remember everytime that happened, we would close our eyes and ask if the scary part was over. I played it on the GBA version. Kind of like +David Johnson’s comment but without the ‘not continuing the game because of it’ part. Also, THANK YOU for showing me that you can freeze the SA-X because I keep on dying from the SA-X during the encounter near the core. You have earned yourself a like.
2:20 The oh so nice SA-X decides to open the door JUST after you get in a hiding spot. You can take however long you like, that door WILL NOT open until you're in position.
Some details I love about the last fight with the SA-X when it morphs into the horrifying beast monster are twofold: 1. It's a great little subversion of the "second phase" part of bosses. Normally the second phase is like "Uh oh, looks like this will be the hard part" and considering how scary the thing becomes you fully expect that. But then it turns out it's actually significantly _less_ dangerous than it was before, as it just hops around almost randomly, and goes down surprisingly fast. Almost comically fast, in fact. 2. Relating to the first point, it becomes clearly evident what the idea behind the morphing was: It was purely a scare tactic meant to intimidate and get you to panic. In reality it was masking the fact that it was on its very last legs and was getting desperate. You can tell this with subtle clues such as the SA-X panting before it morphs indicating it's not got much left in it, and the fact that it really tries to go all out on looking scary and horrible without consideration for its actual combat capabilities. It gives the impression that the thing was like a wild animal getting cornered and acting on instincts, rather than formulating a calculated plan.
If one of the SA-X's survived the events of Metroid Fusion, and Dark Samus survived the events of Prime 3, how would a confrontation between the two actually play out?
if u never played this jus lettin u kno this game gets under your skin.. if u like resident evil or survival horror try this.. tht damned sax music omg
Now that you mention it, I played this again recently after years of it just sitting in my closet. What surprises me is that Nintendo took out the health drain that was in Super Metroid's shine sparks. Multiple screens sparks were dangerous at low health in that game.
I prefer SA-X to Dark Samus simply because Dark Samus knows what it is, with that part where SA-X is blasting at metroids it kinda giives you the feeling that it believes it`s actually Samus, i like that gives it some depth.
Dark Samus has no natural enemy, she IS the metroid prime with all Samus's upgrades plus new powers. She is virtually inmortal considering what happened to her at the end of Metroid Prime 2-
SA-X has a bad way of telling who to target first. It sees both Samus and Omega Metroid, we know Samus is more powerful, but it goes for the Omega Metroid first because it's completely Metroid species while Samus was just given a few cells to treat her X infestation.
The idea that SA-X thinks she really is Samus is interesting. This would mean the X-Parasites mimic not just somethings appearance, but also there personalities and memories.
I really like how the SA-X is made this terrifying being throughout the game. It stalks you, waits and searches. It's a souless replica of Samus at full power. After you beat you truly feel like you've overcome the biggest and baddest enemy you've ever faced. What makes this even better is that at the end of the game (this is what I think btw) it comes back to save and power you up out of respect. You beat it, in my eyes these parasites may have a shred of emotion. But then again if it got out it would've destroyed the planet. Anyways this game is amazing, please play it.
It didn't power up Samus out of respect. The X have no such emotions as they only assimilate memories and information the host has, it cannot replicate emotions. It's Core-X shell hasn't regrown since it was minutes after its fight with Samus which left it vulnerable to be devoured by a Metroid. It attacked the Omega Metroid because it was the bigger threat to its survival, not because it respected Samus. The ONLY reason it didn't attack Samus during that fight is because she was weakened, and thus a low level threat compared to the Omega. Had Samus not absorbed the X-Core right away, the Omega would of devoured it anyway.
..It wouldn't be a Metroid game...unless it has a self-destruct sequence and boss fight....AHHH Metroid...you are my zelda...! uh..uh the name of the game I was talking about the name of the game. another thing Dark Samus is what i think about when seeing the sa-x 13 years never knew what SA-x stood for...Samus Aran-X..-_-.
What made Sa-X a more terrifying villain then dark samus was she hunted you down, dark samus while stronger was only interested in phazon but if you stood in her way it was over.
You know the infamous scene where it looks at the player. For the longest time I though it was the mouth. If you look closely it’s a nose under weird lighting giving it the appearance of a mouth.
I never realized the sax was getting smarter throughout the game. It originally was destroying doors with super missiles and realized it didn’t need to once it grasped control of the ice beam, then later the power bombs. Dammit nintendo that’s good writing.
I still don't understand the ending. I never did. The only logical solution I can think of for SA-X in helping Samus is that it came to the logical conclusion that Samus was the only hope in the strain's survival. I'd love to see that concept come to life in a FPS Prime-style game. SA-X makes Chozo Ghosts, Dark Samus, Ing, whatever look like T.J. from Recess. :P
+Adam Jonathan Jones I theorize that it wasn't rly trying to help Samus rather it just wanted to kill the Omega Metroid since as a sentient X parasite it puts it's hate for it's natural predator the Metroids first before anything else.
+Adam Jonathan Jones I remember reading two theories. One was that the X slowly gained Samus' personality over time and respected her (Which I find unlikely), and the other was that SA-X thought the Omega Metroid was a larger threat than Samus was, so it attacked the metroid first.
+Adam Jonathan Jones Since the X are able to absorb memories and intelligence, it probably started to have a bit of an identity crisis at some point, since Samus' original mission was to destroy all Metroids. Do you know the time when one of the X took on the form of a scientist? With it's newfound intelligence, it thought that blowing up the station would preserve the species back on SR388. The case with the SA-X is similar; it probably then came to terms that it wouldn't be able to stop the collision course with SR388, and decided that since Samus' mission to destroy all Metroids fell in line with the X's interests, to have it absorbed by her to carry out the dying X's final wishes. Something along the lines of that.
What I love about the Sector 5 encounter with SA-X is that as Samus is running down the hall, the door opens before Samus jumps up and on the other side of the wall. This means that the SA-X saw Samus, but decides not to engage and what’s even more scary is that she keeps slowly walking toward the wall, stares at it for a bit, and then walks away to leave. The SA-X KNOWS that Samus is on the other side and it is taunting her in that fashion. That’s what makes the Sector 5 encounter my favorite. The SA-X KNOWS Samus is there and Samus probably knows that fact as well.
No one else has really talked about the music like when adam (the computer) first tells you about the SA-X The music suddenly stops and changes to this higher pitched theme that just envoked fear in my heart the first time i played the game it felt like i was in danger and well i guess i was.
Mr. Gamemaster Because it saw that metroid as a major threat. Before it showed up it was samus who was a threat then the cloned metroids then when this big guy got released, it wanted it dead, but failed to do so, giving samus a chance to absorb what's left of sa-x
The SA-X is an X-Parasite, given by its name, or most likely a Core-X. The Chozo created Metroids to exterminate all X-Parasites, while the X-Parasites are trying to fight back against the Metroids. Thanks to Samus wiping out the Metroids, Metroid Fusion happened. Basically, the X-Parasites and Metroids were having a big war and both creatures are enemies.
The Sa-x didnt Rescue Samus it was just a coincidense ,it was a instinctive act to attack the Omega Metroid on sight ist like the Caffernbuffallo and the Lion in our world.
As a kid I was too scared to realize how ridiculous it is that not only does SA-X bust through a wall for seemingly no reason, breaks the fourth wall, jumps over the elevator she can just walk past, but also she destroys the door that can easily be opened. All in an effort to make her badass and terrifying. It worked. ...actually the door isn't flashing after the explosion, so _I guess_ that forced her to blow it up.
most intimidating adversary... i played sm on snes in the 90s... and ten years later i saw the sax.. im fusion... i felt so hijacked.. SCREW ATTACK!!! I felt so shitted on lol
Samus seems to of based it's theory on the fact that SA-X is heartless and would cause havoc if it realized it's full potential. I for one think the opposite, if it realized it's full potential it would be logical, calculating, and cold, essentially being a computer of sorts. space pirates, metroids, and shadowlings (Monsters reanimated from dead bodies) would all be wiped out
I like to think that the X-Parasites don't function as a hive mind, but rather, a hive INTELLIGENCE (basically, each X-Parasite has an individual mind, but the species as a whole share knowledge and memories that they acquire from hosts.) And rather than them just sensing the Metroid DNA in Samus, the SA-X parasite remembered her being injected with the vaccine and shared this information with her brothers and sisters. Mabey they aren't even hunting you because they think you're a metroid, it's likely a combination of you absorbing them and the possiblity of the Galactic Federation using Samus' metroid DNA to create more metroids. I don't think that SA-X is as soulless as the characters believe, she clearly recognized Samus as the one who essentially wiped out the demons that terrorized and hunted her species for centuries (the metroids) and figured that taking on her form was the best way to protect her people. SA-X would be a hero among her kind (let's say that they call themselves Xians). Whether or not it's something that they were always capable of or if it's something they picked up from previous hosts, I think they comprehend ideas like nobility, compassion, and selflessness. When they overloaded the core, it was probably a sign that the Xians on the B.S.L were willing to sacrifice themselves to save their species (this is demonstrated once again with the blue X-Parasites). But I think the most crucial thing that supports this is SA-X's self-sacrifice just to save Samus. It's also my personal headcanon that some of the X-Parasites, including one of the SA-X's, escaped from the B.S.L in ships or escape pods, as well as SR388 by taking off in the Galactic Federation rescue ship from Metroid 2. It would be cool to see SA-X again as a freelance mercenary. Scouring the galaxy in search of any metroid cloning operations and destroying them to ensure that her people wil never have to live in fear of the metroids again.
Alexander Wolle Easy, man. SA-X came back to comment killing threats, yes, but now it's been destroyed again, thanks not to Samus but me and my Godmars avatar.
I'm Fusion Samus was saved by mixing her DNA with metroid DNA. When the SAX finds you, it freezes you with the ice beam than blows you apart with missiles. The same strategy Samus would use to kill metroids
when you hear the music stop and the footsteps come... *you run*... no bullshitting it... no trolling... no boss fighting it early... you just run... don't even waste a second... the moment you fuck up... the sa-x will come for you...
I swear this feels like a horror game to me the way your isolated out numbered and have to run and hide from something that can kill you easily also the way the music changes when SA-X appears hearing a heartbeat and footsteps in the background sent shivers down my spine when I was younger.
4:40 The inevitable chase encounter in TRO has a unique AI script to it. The section where you hide is also scripted too. If you wait there just long enough for too long, the SA-X will return back to that room again after leaving the room. It doesn't if you leave the room after it leaves as it is scripted to vanish and reappear at another point of the game. But that chase sequence is unique because if the SA-X comes back into the same room it knows you are there and if you make any movement like a bomb drop it will turn around, pace a bit and then turn back around and leave. *Whatever you do, DO NOT USE A POWER BOMB* it will immediately start firing the *Ice Beam* repeatedly *Through the wall* A mistake was made on Gameboy advanced. *Never again*
I used the SA-X as an enemy in a dnd campaign, and it was very fun. It was very amusing watching all the players try to even touch it and get nearly one shot

The SA X was by far one of the coolest villains in metroid. Sure, it's sort of a copy of dark samus, but it's the way that the SA X interacted and how it would randomly show up to places in-game. It was an awesom experience. Still to this day I've never experienced a more intriguing, mysterious, terrifying, but yet interesting villain in a video game.

+joeleffler Hmm a clone that transforms into a huge Beast of Destruction after you defeat it. Oh wait that's what the SA-X is lol
Cough Dark Samus Cough
+Justfortecomments thats just a phazon copy it doesn't have everything samus has though :/
+simeon jones no that's a creature called metroid prime in a stolen phazon suit
+simeon jones It has everything she had in Metroid Prime and more
Good Job Nintendo, you managed to make a Gameboy game feel absolutely more terrifying than Resident Evil
+David Johnson Ikr, i used to close my eyes in that part and when Adam talks about the SA-X entering Sector 2.
I used to feel that way about the Yoshi's Island Game Over screen. I don't know why but it freaked me out enough to make me close my eyes
I remember a point when the ship AI said: "The SA-X is following you." I inmediately saved the game and turned it off. I didn't play again until my older cousin did that section for me.
How can you be so scare, that you don't want to play? I don't get it
I was an 8 year old kid.
kinda glad I didn't have this game as a kid
Oh you were lucky
I got traumatised
+Shiny Espeon i had this game as a kid sa x never scared me
Oh man why did my mom buy it why. On the other hand because of this game i am a game developer, but the nightmares remain.
psychic valentine so manly.
The best part is, when I had this game, I was so scared by the atmosphere alone that I didn't reach the first enemy. I have no idea where that cartridge is now. It's a shame.
Something about the way the music mixes with her footsteps really freaks me out
My god... every time I heard SA-X's foot steps I had goosebumps every where... damn... lol
indeed lol
Omega, not Alpha...
It's actually an Omega Metroid.
Well, Metroid was actually inspired by Ridley Scott's "Alien"
yeah I agree thats a good point.
It's so beautiful how after hours of fear you become the SA-X, just for the very last minute of the game, and embrace the power! Beautiful!
It also reminded me of how powerful the original power suit is. :)
5:19 That looks painful.
She takes it like a man
I like Samus is this petite woman in her 20's fighting things that could literally enslave the universe
@@r.r815 samus height is around 2m or something like that
Петр Распутин
She's also really strong and agile because she runs around in that suit all day, has trained ever since she was a child and is partly chozo
Петр Распутин Samus isn't 2m, she's ~6'3 if I remember correctly
SA-X trying to kill those metroids was pretty badass
oh god those heavy boot steps RUINED my mental state
Came here after seeing Metroid Dread trailer.
Imagine encountering sa-x on the virtal reality headsets in a broken down space ship.
When the SA-X broke the fourth wall by staring at the screen, it sent chills down my spine.
They should seriously remake this game into a modern shooter/horror. This is the only old game I still like.
***** I am probably not the best person to ask. I only saw your one video :/
I should return in Metroid Prime 4!
+Victor Hernandez
Impossible because A: The SA-X was absorbed by Samus during her fight with the Omega Metroid. B: The space station the other SA-X's were on was destroyed, wiping them all out. And C: In addition to the station being destroyed, the X Parasite's homeworld, SR-388, was also destroyed in the explosion, wiping out the X Parasites.
This is very likely now with samus returns
Normal this would have gotten a thumbs up but why is the text so big that it obscures the encounter half the time?
When I was around seven years of age, the first encounter with SA-X FREAKED me and my cousin OUT. I remember everytime that happened, we would close our eyes and ask if the scary part was over. I played it on the GBA version. Kind of like +David Johnson’s comment but without the ‘not continuing the game because of it’ part. Also, THANK YOU for showing me that you can freeze the SA-X because I keep on dying from the SA-X during the encounter near the core. You have earned yourself a like.
Sa-x is better than dark samus
I think they're both pretty good in the own terms
Dark Samus an awesome villain in the Prime series
SA-X best creepy parasite in the entire series
There she goes! That's my girl!
You are copying me?
Wait I thought the SA-X was you?
A-
the first encounter is f-ing terrifying
good thing samus left the room RIGHT before the SA-X shows up.
SA-X used to be my nightmare from that game, til Mother brain in the later games got an upgrade.
Timothy Parham in the later games? lol
I think he means Mother Brain from Zero Mission.
First time I played this game, that bitch scared the shit out of me every time I heard her walking. 😂
Abel Gonzalez SAME
2:20 The oh so nice SA-X decides to open the door JUST after you get in a hiding spot. You can take however long you like, that door WILL NOT open until you're in position.
fucking. terrifying.
4:55 i escaped from the SA-X with 7 points of energy, i had to learned all its moves and move carefully and millimetrically
For a Sci-Fi shooter this will definitely bring LOTS of nightmare fuel in your dreams
Some details I love about the last fight with the SA-X when it morphs into the horrifying beast monster are twofold:
They would attack each other with all hate they have, since SA-X is a parasite X and Dark Samus is a metroid, not any metroi, The Metroid Prime
if u never played this jus lettin u kno this game gets under your skin.. if u like resident evil or survival horror try this.. tht damned sax music omg
5:22
I’m convinced that must have hurt more than anything the SA-X could have done...
Now that you mention it, I played this again recently after years of it just sitting in my closet.
What surprises me is that Nintendo took out the health drain that was in Super Metroid's shine sparks. Multiple screens sparks were dangerous at low health in that game.

Also, 5:56 one will go far to eliminate their weaknesses.
Galvanic Reaper I JUST SHIT MY PANTZ (adrenaline overcharge) WIIIIIII *ded*
Sa-x looks likes the impostor of among us
I prefer SA-X to Dark Samus simply because Dark Samus knows what it is, with that part where SA-X is blasting at metroids it kinda giives you the feeling that it believes it`s actually Samus, i like that gives it some depth.
Or SA-X is using it's new found abilities to kill it's only enemy
the SA-X's only natural predator is the metroid so the SA-X is just using its newfound abilities to kill them.

2:25 when you playing videogame til late at night and your mom walks into your room
Hey look it's classic samu......
Oh
Okay then....
..It wouldn't be a Metroid game...unless it has a self-destruct sequence and boss fight....AHHH Metroid...you are my zelda...! uh..uh the name of the game I was talking about the name of the game.
another thing Dark Samus is what i think about when seeing the sa-x 13 years never knew what SA-x stood for...Samus Aran-X..-_-.
Echoes didn't have a self-destruct sequence.
What made Sa-X a more terrifying villain then dark samus was she hunted you down, dark samus while stronger was only interested in phazon but if you stood in her way it was over.
Wanted to see what SA-X was after everyone was talking about it in Metroid Dread reactions. This is cool.
You know the infamous scene where it looks at the player. For the longest time I though it was the mouth. If you look closely it’s a nose under weird lighting giving it the appearance of a mouth.
I remember panicking hardcore if I got caught. Still gives me chills to this day. Thanks for the flashback.
No one else has really talked about the music like when adam (the computer) first tells you about the SA-X The music suddenly stops and changes to this higher pitched theme that just envoked fear in my heart the first time i played the game it felt like i was in danger and well i guess i was.
that point where she just stops and stairs at you ..... even my soul quit living
Oh god not STAIRS!
And here I am, bullying a year old comment
I don't understand why did the SA-X try to save you from the omega metroid
The Sa-x didnt Rescue Samus it was just a coincidense ,it was a instinctive act to attack the Omega Metroid on sight ist like the Caffernbuffallo and the Lion in our world.
basically it hated the omega metroid more than samus, so, knowing it could not win, it decided to boost samus
Metroid Fusion really does a Phenomenal job at pacing and presenting the threat that SA-X poses.
Telling you now. If I played the game when it first came out. I would have had nightmares. I got scared by the masks in Super Mario Bros 2
Well, good thing you didn't play the game at that time then, huh?
Samus seems to of based it's theory on the fact that SA-X is heartless and would cause havoc if it realized it's full potential. I for one think the opposite, if it realized it's full potential it would be logical, calculating, and cold, essentially being a computer of sorts. space pirates, metroids, and shadowlings (Monsters reanimated from dead bodies) would all be wiped out
Those "shadowlings" you're talking about are actually called the Ing. They were already wiped out, though.
SA-X chasing me feels like Prince of Persia Dahaka chase.
OfficialMaddeck YES!
What if SA X became like Mr. X from resident evil?
Like, Full on stalker not just appearing on scripted events.
"SA X goin' give it to ya"
I never got far enough in the game as a child to experience this part 4:49 and it looks absolutely terrifying.
You can avoid the Sector 2 reactor encounter by just waiting, WAITING FTW.
OH GOD, SA-X IS GONNA BE BACK! D:
I hope hessssss in the newwww game

The SA-X! KILL IT! KILL IT! KILL IT!
Alexander Wolle Easy, man. SA-X came back to comment killing threats, yes, but now it's been destroyed again, thanks not to Samus but me and my Godmars avatar.
The fact that the sa-x had the same sprite as Samus had in Super Metroid just downright creeped me out
I'm Fusion Samus was saved by mixing her DNA with metroid DNA.
I swear this feels like a horror game to me the way your isolated out numbered and have to run and hide from something that can kill you easily also the way the music changes when SA-X appears hearing a heartbeat and footsteps in the background sent shivers down my spine when I was younger.
the chills.. THE CHILLSS BRRRRRrrr
Foound yoou!
SA-X Nuuuuuuuu..
*SA-X chase theme plays*
You can run but you can't...well, actually, you CAN hide too- BUT I WILL FIND YOU AGAIN!!
Lel. I hide in the corner with mah morph ball and drop super bombs
SA-X GAIAAA!!!
*Summon Gaia.*
I'm not gonna run neither hide, but YOU should run. Get out of here and leave that guy alone, or I form Godmars, again!
I like at 5:14 it just walks in. Stares for a second and is like “ok nope” then just leaves lol
*Whatever you do, DO NOT USE A POWER BOMB* it will immediately start firing the *Ice Beam* repeatedly *Through the wall*
A mistake was made on Gameboy advanced.
*Never again*
I used the SA-X as an enemy in a dnd campaign, and it was very fun. It was very amusing watching all the players try to even touch it and get nearly one shot
Just so you guys know
SA-X means Samus Aran X
The SA X is a X parasite copy of Samus Aran that copied all of samus’s abilities varia suit screw attack pace jump etc.
(This is for the people who don’t know what SA-X means)
As it may say in 6:40
You know something hurts when you're put on your knees breathing heavily
Metroid Fusion is the first ever game that made me SCARED without it being a horror game
Sooo...who is here after we saw the SAX in HD glory in the Metroid Dread flashback? :D
Dark Samus is a copy of SA-X. SA-X came before Dark Samus. Well, in terms of game release date. Chronologically, Dark Samus came first.
Off topic, but did anyone else think that the charged shots during the fight sounded like part of Mother Brain's screeches in Super Metroid?
can we take a moment to appreciate that sa-x didn't have the x-ray scope ability.... imagine how screwed you'd be if that was the case.
0:55 Damn I think I can see why people call that moment creepy.
Knowing that thing was so close made me think about just how loud Samus's footsteps are
You can practically hear the Game Boy in the wall explosion SA-X walks out of.
A nice charm to the game: adding an unexpected dose of survival horror
The metroids actually help samus in this one
