Metroid Fusion - Secret Message
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- If you perform these difficult maneuvers in the Game Boy Advance game "Metroid Fusion", you can see this. It is one of the only "sequence breaks" in the game, and--to the best of my knowledge--although the ability existed in prior Metroid titles, this scene is what actually named the glowing aura around Samus as the "Shinespark".
Imagine a kid who somehow could not figure out the other method, and did this instead?
They'd have been PISSED.
"metroid fusion is the hardest! but I- d-did it!"
I was....
That kid was me
I tried about 751 times before i got it
The other method is such huuuuge CHEESE if pulled off successfully, but last time I checked (years ago, on a Metroid Wiki from Wikia IIRC), that other method was patched out for the European, US, and other later releases.
For a game that’s notoriously difficult to sequence break, I kinda find it almost hilarious that the devs put by far one of the hardest sequence breaks in the series and even acknowledged it lol.
I have a better chance of beating resident evil 4 on professional mode than ever pulling this off
@@Spiralredd Beating Resident Evil 4 on professional is not that hard.
@@RandalfElVikingo are you kidding it's damn near impossible
@@Spiralredd You need to know the location of the Yellow Herbs, choose weapons wisely (Fully Upgraded Handgun and Shotgun, Semi Automatic Sniper and the Broken Butterfly are enough to handle everything) and be a master of the knife. The hardest part of that game is crown control, so having a shotgun is a must basically or being too precise with the rifle.
@@RandalfElVikingo that's the problem I keep getting hit so many times I never am able to keep the herba

Cherry on top: retaining the Shinespark through the whole conversation, and then boosting to the left after it's over. All done in one take. Amazing.
I have no idea what's more crazy.
People, who are able to not only figure this shit out, but pull it off, OR Nintendo acknowledging the fact that there might be people who could do it, and putting on an extra message for them.
Chris Purolover it's at this point when you know that Nintendo is just messing with your head now
Me either... This is a real message? At first I though it was a troll
This was back when Nintendo wasn’t abhorrent.
A beta tester found this trick first, he explained how he did it to the devs and they were like "wow", they put the message here after that. Guy has trouble replicating his feat live though, he spent like an hour trying to get it right in a livestream he was in.
I remember the first time I did that... I never thought about going to the navigator room -_-"
And THIS most likely inspired the many obnoxious shinespark puzzles in Zero Mission.
Metroid fusion...
Mind Blown. Metroid breaking the fourth wall!?! impressed
Not to mention foreshadowing Other M 8 years early. Nintendo is amazing.
+Sam the Awesam What do you mean foreshadowing other M?
It talks about the secret plan that Adam Malkovich and the GF are working on, i.e. the Bottle Ship. According to the wiki:
"In the message, Adam is impressed by Samus's technique to skip the Diffusion Missiles. A shadowy figure presumably working for the Galactic Federation appears to congratulate her as well and wants to reward her by telling Samus about the Federation's secret program. However, Adam states this is unwise, and prevents the figure from doing so, telling Samus to continue her mission. This is foreshadowing the Metroid breeding program."
+Sam the Awesam But fusion is after other M. Not before
Really? That's weird. Doesn't Adam die in Other M? How is he alive in Fusion?
lmao the fourth wall break at the end
How the fuck are you here at the same time as I am
The fuck.
Hi Wii!!!
Algorithm caught you too, huh?
That did more than break the 4th wall, that jumped through the 4th wall
+StellarDweller not to mention it was on the 4th sector floor
Andrew Campos I counted... and Samus actually had to boost through 4 walls to get to this point.
Breaking 4 walls in Sector 4 just to have the computer break the 4th wall... I wish I had been able to do this in the game when I was growing up.
The 4th wall, because this is METROID 4 HAHAHAHA *bad joke please kill me*
They shinesparked through the fourth wall.
They shinesparked through the 4th wall
I actually discovered it in my first playthrough of the game after about 500 tries because I thought it was what you were supposed to do when I saw those blocks that had to be broken by speeding through them. Let me tell you, it was hell.
lmao.
Impressive resolve
You're not the only one who trekked that extra mile. Was worth it though.
You're a God gamer, Jemmysponz.
@@MagicMaster667 Ha, not anymore! That happened so long ago, back when I had infinite time to waste away being ignorant to the intended path. I'm not even close to being as good at games as I was when I was little.
Alot now but back then i bet only 100 players saw this message.
and most of them were Japanese

Luke Warner
I lost my touch for mario kart in all honesty.
This is the first time the term "shinespark" was used for that ability.
Yeah I was about to say wtf? Playing Super Metroid I always just called it speed boosting.
Juan Galan Actually it's both, the running is the Speed Booster while the charged up jump is the Shinespark, but "Charged Speed Booster Jumping Combo" sound kinda lame, so lets do the Shinespark again!
To be fair I'm pretty certain the name's an homage (and probably the Japanese coined it for this move) to Getter Robo. The Getter Robo G and Shin Getter Robo were capable of engulfing themselves in their energy (Getter Energy) and launching it (or themselves) in an attack known as the "Shine Spark".
So while in NA it probably was 'coined' here, odds are the Japanese were calling it "Shine Spark" well in advance.
Me, seeing shinespark tricks:
Alright speed booster. Shinespark? Nice, nice.
*Morph ball shinespark*
*THE SHINE BALL!!!*
Imagine if they put a similar mesage in Dread, considering that Adam(The AI) is comfirmed to return, it would be pretty funny if they put a similar mesage in the game
That would be amazing
I'd rather Mercury steam put in the sort of rewards that other Metroid games have in them for difficult sequence breaks, rather than putting in a patronizing "Aw, how cute. you thought you could have some agency in the path you take through this game."
Maybe I'd accept an easter egg like this more if it doesn't do something like lock the door to the nav room so you can actually break the sequence and get tangible rewards for it.
The direct specifically stated that Adam would only be there as a "hint and lore" companion, rather than a CO like he was in Fusion and Other M. So no linear objectives and stuff
It’s funny because AIs were very creepy back when Fusion was made. They are so commonplace now. Digital assistants) that it’s not the same.
Well. There is no special mesage. But...is special Kraid custcene
I love how this is basically a horror game but they decided to add some humour out of an artificial intelligence unit breaking the forth wall! even the shady military officer gets involved and decides to spoil the plot!
Okay. I will confess, I won't be able to do that.
Blabbermouth Gamer Theres another method using ice missiles.
Blabbermouth Gamer I was able to do it but couldn't maintain it
0:40 fuuuck, why are the sounds in this game so satisfying?
Harlot McWanker it's only when I played this game recently (and shortly after playing Super Metroid), that I realised how much more powerful the GBA was than the SNES. It only lacked resolution. I wasn't expecting such an immersive experience from a handheld game!
The best satisfying sound in this game is when you're fighting the plant boss to get the plasma beam and you time it right with its shot then dodge then missile it makes a pretty good beat lol
Cause they put their heart and soul into it.
Edit: found out GBA didn't have a sound chip.
I wish the GBA sound chip was a little more like the SNES. Sometimes the sound is kind of sharp with the little speakers.
@@MegaMato It didn't even have a dedicated sound chip like the SNES, unfortunately... the sound FX and music were processed by the CPU and then sent to the DAC to generate sound output.
I remember getting the secret message once. But I cheated in order to do it. Instead of doing the shinespark trick I simply found a way to freeze one of the puffer enemies without the diffusion missiles.
shortcutting the intended shortcut. Thats a true metroid player right here
how the hell did you pull that one off?
@@dakotastein9499 you have to carefully time your space jump and angle your missile to shoot the enemy that blocks your path. It's arguably harder than just doing the shinespark method.
@@warpedbays4388 seeing as ive tried the shinespark and am terrible at it i imagine your method might be easier for me,asuming a ever pick up and play fusion again that is.
glad i'm not the only one that crouches in navigation rooms, save stations and recharge rooms
i was going to say something then I realised that this message is four years old.
oops did it anyways
I do it all the time in Zero Mission. Back then I thought it would break the game to save while shinesparking.
@@taccm386 i was going to reply to huge hombre then i realised that this comment chain was 7 year old.
oops i did it it anyways
Jesus how are people coming back here
@@Revolution-U No clue
You have to admit, all those tricks with the Shinespark ARE trully commendable
They need to put this game on the 3DS already
It already is. If you bought the 3DS when it first came out BEFORE the price drop, you would be part of the 3DS Ambastitor program and receive 10 free NES games and 10 free GBA games.
Now before anyone complains about this being unfair, this was nintendo's way of compensating those (like myself) that paid full price for the system when it first came out. (Back when the ONLY good game on the system was Pilotwings and all the other ones were being delayed)
That is a fair point but the could at least bring it to the 3DS eshop
the thing is the 3DS can barely handle GBA games on the virtual console. that's the sole reason they made the New 3DS. if you don't know what I mean compare the Wii U and the 3ds Virtual console. the Wii U VC you can use the internet or miiverse without closing the game. however on the 3DS if you use anything else it forces you to close the VC game. this is because the specs of the 3DS can't really handle the emulation software. Nintendo discovered this only after they released the 10 GBA games to ambasitors. they were originally going to have tons of VC games, but after they gave the 10 exclusive ones, they found out about the emulatior issue. this is why you won't see this game on 3DS eshop.
MikanPachi: finally an answer I was looking for, thank you very much for that helpful fact.
Dante Martinez Buy a Supercard DSTWO and you can play it on that.
how many players will see this message?
well, the internet exists, so every player can see that message
Well, I think they mean actual players, "those who play", not "those who watch videos on the internet".
ViwwiV good point
ViwwiV what if we play the game and watch video on the internet?c:
gamingtest fr the players who do the trick by thierselfs?
No..the one that do the trick while watching video c:
Well, considering how this was put online nearly a decade ago, I would imagine thousands of players would have seen that message, Adam.
1. That...was impressive
2. That last line...
"I wonder how many players will see this message...?"
I just broke into laughter XD
"Get back on task so I can yell at you for doing things without authorization."
First time I played this game was in 2002 and I have played it on and off since, and in almost 20 years, I saw something "new" in Metroid Fusion today. I am truly amazed that Nintendo did such a thing, just, Wow!
Being that most of us who played this game upon its release were just kids who were even far younger when we played the previous games and weren’t as groundbreaking at games, I’m sure it took most of us over 20+ years to find out that this scenario even existed. I’ve had this game since 2002 and I’ve even beaten it 100% in under 3 hours multiple times, now I’m in my mid 30’s, and I literally just found out about this not even 5 mins ago. Truly magnificent!
Metroid fusion secret message, or that time samus was almost inducted into the illuminati
The SA-X might be scary but it will never be as scary as "17y ago"
How many players will see that message? Well, thanks to the almighty internet, all players will see this message...
Seems a bit unfair to those who legitimately found this. I was one of them. But to be fair I found a different method which is much easier. Then again, that's impressive in its own right.
Krukmeister I think you freezed the Powamp enemie in front of the data room, where you collected the Diffusion Missiles. Right? But this works only in the american version. (or in the English version. I'm not sure)
I have a PAL EUR copy.
Well Fusion came out 2003, UA-cam wasn't till 2005 and even then I doubt this was the first thing that popped in people's head when coming to make a UA-cam video back then. That adds more years. Players had their shot to figure it out themselves and it wasn't in the official game guide
Been watching a lot of Fusion TAS runs lately. Makes me realise just how much of Fusion I missed, and that I give it too hard a time. Even if I'm not a fan of the linearity, the sheer number of secrets, the size of the map and the fact that you can get from each zone to the next without elevators just shows how much thought they really put into it. I really want to dig the old GBA out and give it another shot!
How'd it go? Did you do it? What'd it feel like?
You missed the second half of it. If you re-enter the conversation he displays another message too.
DarkFlameZealot o dang, would u have a link to what it says?
I remember as a teenager when Fusion first came out, I came to that part on my fourth playthrough in the game and thought, I could get back to the computer room using the speed boost, but it would be hard. I was too curious about what would happen, I made it on my third attempt, and to this day I'm amazed at the fact Nintendo knew people would exploit that path. Almost like they also enjoy exploits and secrets.
I remember trying to do this many years ago. Let's just say my DS Lite had a nice, but short life. XD
Same here
An official “Holy shit that was amazing!” straight from Nintendo themselves. It makes you wonder if a guy at Nintendo was able to do this and Nintendo put it in for players who could do it. Or if they couldn’t do it, but thought it was feasibly possible and put the message there just in case somebody somehow managed to do it.
I'm surprised that the game devs were able to figure out how this could even be done.
Fun fact: you can actually sequence break that sequence break by shooting an ice missile on a spiked-balloon ennemy at a very precise angle, allowing you to go back to that room much more easily.
That's it! I knew I've seen this message before!
if the slopes werent hidden, i bet more players could have figured it out from working backwards.
No wonder that faction of the GF is no longer around in Dread if they wanted to reveal their plans to every person who slightly impressed them.
Cant belive back then i did all this without looking it up just because i felt there had to be a way to reach those blocks
This & Chris Houlihan's Room are 2 of the biggest Nintendo secrets ever.
I tried to reach both but never could.
I accidentally found Chris houlihan after giving up trying to force it to happen
Never knew this existed. God I love this game
Hear that sound? That was the fourth wall shattering into a million pieces. Well done, though. I certainly couldn't have pulled that off.
This is one of two methods to get back from the depths of Sector 4, the other one is easier to find out on your own.
But the other method only works in the american version. (or in the english version) In the European version, Nintendo fixed it.
You clearly are the greatest Metroid Fusion player in existence. Ever. I should be taking notes.
Being able to post a screenshot of this on Miiverse was the ultimate bragging right.
I couldn't do it myself, but I saw a handful of others one there who had.
My favorite was a guy who posted the 'how many players will see this message...?' screen and wrote; "This took me an hour of trying, and now my left thumb really hurts.
So many tight shine sparks are needed and use of the semi screw attack but some how knowing your one of the few people who can see the message in game is worth it
I enjoyed all 10 pixels of this
The secret they wanted to let Samus in on makes perfect sense after playing Other M and Dread
What's even better is that this isn't even necessary. You can just aim and fire an ice missile at a diagonal angle towards one of the enemies blocking your path near the data room and simultaneously fall and move forward to move the missile Sprite forward and freeze the enemy, letting you morphball through normally. It takes a bit of practice, but can be done. No shinespark tricks needed.
Apparently that doesn't work in the Japanese version, though.
"Get back on task" he says...
If that's what he wants us to do, why the fuck does he still complain when we get the Diffusion Missiles early?
The best part is that even the shadowy figure who wanted to keep [REDACTED] secret is impressed.
This looks somewhat manageable, especially if you've done the Zero Mission shinespark tricks before. Then again, I never tried this one here, so I dunno.
Sonnenkreis It's on the same engine, Zero Mission is just like this one just tweaked up a bit.
Yea there are 2 shinespark way harder than this ine in zero mission the first is to get super Missiles in that place where you can get the super grip too the other is in the space pirates mother ship to get an energy tank
I found the Zero Mission tricks to be harder
Speaking of Zero Mission, did you know you can make it so you don’t trigger the small gate closing when fighting Mother Brain? You just need to make enough sprites load in as the gate counts as a sprite. I believe it takes about 65 loaded sprites, Mother Brain included, to do this. This way, you can actually take an alternate escape route. Be warned however, that the alternative escape method is very hard to perform as well, since you have to use shinespark a couple times. A TAS bot was able to do it in normal mode, having only a few seconds left on the timer.
Speed boosters one of my favorite abilities but mastering the shine spark is hard for me. I love watching people use the shine spark.
The precision needed to activate this hidden message is nothing short of astonishing!
That little drop of the fourth wall at the end.
That is awesome as fuck haha. I've played this game many, many times and I never would have thought to do this. Shows the amount of love and thought that can go into a Nintendo game.
Samus Shinesparked through the 4th wall...
God damn that shinespark is a god awful nightmare to master.
It's games like this that make me mad that GBA games aren't available on the 3DS e shop.
+The Green Dragon 53 I'm here from the fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuture of 3 months later. They are. Or if they aren't, they are on the wii u eshop. I haven't used the 3ds eshop in awhile, though, so I could be wrong about them on there. Or you could, yknow, buy the game off the eshop if you have a gba...
BananaFaceDude56
It still stinks for people that don't have a Wii U
+The Green Dragon 53 Emulators anyone?
+The Green Dragon 53 Get CFW, it's so easy there's no excuse not to.
+The Green Dragon 53 but i have fusion on my 3ds
I hope you know how much this really clears up for us who haven't played the game. I'm dead serious. Otherwise I would've never thought it was that hard...I mean...he did it like it wasn't that hard. :P
Took me years but I pulled this off a while back, one of the greatest gba games ever
@Ranemoraken Another important factor of this trick is that Samus automatically engages the shoulder-ram when she jumps, unless she's doing a FLIP. Being careful not to just jump straight up is an important factor to the trick since that would force you to go into a shoulder-ram even if you aren't near a slope you can abuse.
I got that thing ages ago, before this video was uploaded, in 2006 I think. Good Job man.
@Ranemoraken this is the sort of commentary that needs +100 thumbs.
Not only were you rewarded for sequence breaking the game, you were rewarded for sequence breaking the game using nothing but raw skill, and they knew exactly how you did it. Moments like these are why I love Nintendo. I know they're not the only ones who do this sort of thing, but it's still awesome to see that they thought of truly everything a player can do.
lmfao you ended the vid with a shinespark cancle
Finally managed to do it, after about 3 and a half hours... Felt my mind going more numb than my hands. Kinda just glad it's over honestly.
The 4th wall is the monitor screen that separates you from the game. The computer talking about "players" is breaking the 4th wall of the plot.
Whoever actually did this instead of the intended method, has a quicker process of finding a solution than others. When you break through the shine spark wall, and after get stuck, you go back to the shine spark wall as the only exit. You may think this means that you couldn't do what everyone else was intended to do, but you managed to come up with a method so complex Nintendo gave you a mini reward as a secret message. So bravo Samus. 👏
I've never even played this yet UA-cam decided it was time for everyone to see this
i have beat this game 100% and i have never seen this
Then you haven't 100%'d the game.
You know you have when you've seen everything.
Semantics. That's like saying someone with a *96 file in Super Mario World hasn't completed it yet because they didn't do that goofy 5-minute glitch speed run where you get the credits to roll without even beating the game.
Yes, this is part of the game that was intended to be seen by players and the SMW thing is simply breaking the game but I'm just going on your rationale of a game not being 100%ed if someone hasn't seen every possible scenario.
Wow. I'm started to try to do it yesterday... ****in hard. Though I'm slowly making progress, muscle-memorizing everything. The worst is when you screw up because of the placements of the enemies, and then you have to shoot them and stuff. Like this isn't hard enough already.
And that is why I give you two thumbs up.
I freaking love the very last second of the video, after computer tells you to stop joking around.
Good recommandation youtube, I'm even more hyped for dread now !
You get this in the game AFTER unlocking the Level 4 Security (Red) doors, but BEFORE gaining the Ice Diffusion Missiles. I haven't done it yet tho, i didnt watch the end of the video i dont want to ruin it but i have been practicing how to do it, its hard as hell
Hey man, I finally managed to get past this. Thank you so much for the guide, it really helped me out.
dude, THAT's breaking the fourth wall
Oh trust me, keeping a booster shinespark for that long is unheard of.
If you bought a dollars worth of Bitcoin a year after you uploaded this you would be a multi millionaire today
That's our Samus Aran!
this video is nearly as old as me i played metroid fusion a lot and never even knew this existed even after this 14 year old video
man did i wish i finished this game, it scared the crap outta me back when i was 12
You're really ridiculously amazing. I'm ALMOST done it before, but after reaching the final area where you jump and boost through the wall, and FAILING, i just gave up XD.
Incredible work. Pat yourself on the back...again. For me.
Like I was already going to say before the end of the video;
"Wow. They've maintained that shinespark for an unbelievably length of time."
this technique will prove very difficult on a PC emulated version lol that'll be my problem..
+Pokèman Sam it's been my problem already. It's not impossible, but you need a feasible keyboard configuration to make sure you pull it off. Also, timing is another part of the equation
+Miltenacious Or just get aq PC controller. You can get some for like $10-$20. Not the best analog sticks, but still good enough, especially for d-pad games
same
I have an ibuffalo controller for these games. Though the skill involved would be out of my range
@@Miltendo I revisited my old save and I can comfortably agree that while impossible, I see that timing is EVERYTHING. The gradual changes to keeping the Shinespark charged is another level of stressful
still man... this one was way out of the box to even think about it
What's even funnier, is that the devs thought this was the only way to get to this skip
You dont even really need the shinespark to get here
I wonder how many players would see this message without the internet.
Nice fourth wall break!
Keep looking around. I vaguely remember thinking I was stuck there too. I'm pretty sure you'll find a hidden way out. Good luck!
Talking to the players, talking about players, talking about things that don't exist in the game's universe plot but in ours. Like some npcs in games that say things like: "Press the A button" and such.
In Earthbound and some other games there are npcs that say that kind of thing but then say "I don't know what this means, what is an A button?" in order to not REALLY shatter the 4th wall.
Well, Deadpool does it regularly, Gilgamesh smashes it (literally) with his face in Dissidia 012, Samus apparently Shinesparks through it, causing Adam to notice us.
The UA-cam algorithm works in mysterious ways
This game brings back so many memories
There's another sequence break in this metroid, speed boost to where you get the ice missle charge.Boost through the weird plant thing blocking the way.
do a shinespark against a hill and press in that direction and instantly down. In Super Metroid, Samus would just continue the shinespark up the hill. In Fusion and Zero Mission, she goes from flight to running mode. pressing down would "save" the shinespark again, restarting the counter.
And Ive never been able to do shinespark like this. I envy the players with such skills. Great job :)
This is the hard way to do things. You can also use the momentum of the missiles to freeze the enemies that block your way without getting the charge missile or using the shine-spark but the message will still play.
That has to be the best easter egg/trick ever.
Oh man, I remember doing this. Took me HOURS to finally pull it off but holy shit did it feel good.
