    The key to this round was my back was feeling good, the swing was pretty good and I had no fear off the tee of hazards or rough. I was basically free wheeling. Also the greens were a very good pace, I could hit firmly without any fear of the ball running away out of control. No pitty patting a 4 footer down a slope and worrying about it going 4 feet past. All these positives allowed me to just think of the target. Plus the par 5's were all within reach of 2 decent shots.

    Excellent golf, well played. Fabulous looking course. Thanks for the lag tip, just hope I remember that one when I'm putting. My family (4 or 5 generations ago) hail from that part of the World 🌎

      I spoke my first words in Tenby aged 2 and a half. I was a bit late. Yeah lagging we have to borrow a bit more than we can see because we aren't tour pros. We always underestimate.

      If you give me short par 5's with no hazards to worry about then I've got a good chance. There are some mistakes on the back 9 as it tightens up a bit.

    I know what you are talking about when you talk about percentages, it does make sense. It's the same thing I'm doing in all my rounds, "what if I miss right, left,.." "would it be better to miss to the left, right, long...." and this really works! great putting by the way.

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому

      The greens were just the right pace and no trees to worry about. You have to play the percentages and take your 2 putts. But when you get a shot you really fancy then take it on. As I did the 3 wood into the par 5, ended up in a bunker but I was happy with that.

    • @thehairygolfer

      I had no fear out there so was freewheeling the driver and it helps having par 5's I can reach and no par 4's over 430.
      I made the leaderboard by just creating some blocks in powerpoint and sticking my logo on the end then I just snipped it. It's very crude compared to Golf Sidekick but it's a start.

      I got better at driving when I switched to a fade in 95 as my draw was a wild hook. But I really got better when I stopped trying to hit the cover off the ball. Of course I'm now losing speed so it's easier not to try and knock the cover off the ball LOL

      I don't hit the ball very far, if I get a bit of downhill and a bit of help from the wind and a firm fairway it will roll out there. My biggest asset is hitting straight and I think I do that by not hitting flat out. I've got 16 handicap friends who pound it past me and hit a 54 from 120 yards but they are swinging out of their shoes. Which is why they are 16.
      I will be touching on this in some later videos I have yet to make. Thanks Joseph.

    A superb watch and listen Sir. Just getting back in to golf after a long time away having previously let it take over my life, practicing, playing, running a golf society etc. The old clubs have been dusted down and have played twice at Herefordshire Golf Club - enjoyed your round around that course also. Thank you. Paul 😊⛳👍

      I find I have changed the way I play golf. I was obsessed with getting my handicap down and would practice all week for the sunday comp. This year has been a bit of a wash out so I find myself practicing to make a video. Enjoy getting back into Paul, you are at a lovely course there.

Now I do that for a video! What a sad git! LOL I've slowed down a bit with the videos Paul as I was getting a bit burnt out, not sure what the winter will bring but I've got feelers out with my teaching Pro so I'm hoping to get him on with some tips and take the pressure off myself playing.

      I get the map overlays from the club website but I missed my GPS on the 1st, that was a mess. and the Club Pro came out to watch me tee off as he saw the tripod. I always worry about looking a fool in front of other people when I have a camera so I prepare for a shoot like a sunday club competition.

      Hi Miles, I am useless with computers so if I can do it anybody can. I just made a few boxes of different colours and added my logo on the end. Typing out all the info for each shot is a pain in the editing software. The overheads are what I can find on the golf club website or buying a stroke saver or simply using google earth. As I've got quicker at editing I've found the time to bolt on these extras.

    • @thehairygolfer

      It was quite wide Colin and the greens were a very nice comfortable speed. No trees and only the odd fairway bunker to worry about. I don't know if you noticed but the flags that day were all in nice positions. There were a few scary back shelfs to those greens and I was very grateful. The back has some harder holes but I do okay on them.

    hi Simon. well it just goes to show ,that a well looked after course brings out good golf,
    and your course management was excellent from start to finish,love the disco dancing on the 9th,
    but it could have been worse as you might have played the birdie song on your music ha ha,
    as for the chariot grrrr not a lover of them as they can very easily add distraction , i much prefer to walk any course no matter how hilly or tough ,as i like to plan as i walk to my ball position ,
    as always a great video to enjoy with my cornflakes ,,keep up the good work .

      The course was wide enough that I had no fear so I drove well. I hate riding too Eddie because as you say you get a feel for the next shot before you get to the ball. I almost ran over my ball on one hole into the bargain.
      I do hate arriving at my ball and my first thought is "Where am I". There is no concept of distance.

      @@eddielloyd4070 Hi Eddie, first rule of golf carts is you put a slicer and a hooker in each cart to make sure play is as slow as possible. A 4 ball in 2 carts are dead slow.
      I used to carry a 2 iron a long time ago. I could hit some decent shoulder high shots with it which was useful into the wind but I struggled otherwise to get height on the ball. But then it was a blade and not the modern item, but I doubt I could hit a modern one properly either. I'm losing speed so getting a long iron airborne is not my forte.

      @@thehairygolfer well Simon i am the opposite height with irons has always been my forte so to speak,,what is the best piece of advice you have given by a playing partner ???
      as for myself it was from my doubles partner an Asian guy in his 50s who was a very laid back yet great player, and he told me when playing match play to always play the course and never your opponent ,,,and how right he was,,

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  3 роки тому

      @@eddielloyd4070 Best advice was from a Pro during a playing lesson. I was lazy setting up for a 50 yard shot and that I should aim very carefully so I only miss short and long and not left and right also.
      I've won a few matchplay knockouts and could write a tomb on that. I always played the man, reacted to what he did or would intimidate if I had the honour. Just hitting fairway safely can intimidate. The other thing was to be patient in a tight match, let the other guy try and break the deadlock. Be happy to half your way to the 19th and 20th and let the other guy sweat.
      Finally never think it's won. When you're 1 up get 2 up, when you're 4 up get 5 up. Just pile it on, relax and you're dead.

    Lovely course! I think this one is my favorite so far. Solid play out there! I like how you talked about making a commitment to the shot whether it's the right or wrong decision. There has been plenty of times ive been in that type situation and dont really commit all the way. It usually turns out bad even if it was the right decision. I think thats the first time I've seen you in a golf cart. It's easier to improve your lie with the cart because you can block out a decent amount of view from your playing partners😂. Way to close it out with that long birdie putt!!!

    • @thehairygolfer
      @thehairygolfer  4 роки тому +1

      That putt on the last surprised me. No trees and no fear so I was free wheeling. On the courses you play I would be very worried. The cart got a flat after 4 holes so I had to go get a replacement. They were so old the front window was almost opaque, big danger of running over my own ball!
