I went a bit nuts with this one. After you watch the video, be sure to checkout the blog post that goes with this video on earthling.com see: bit.ly/FlatLights . There are links to all of the items discussed as well as the spreadsheet with the flashlight comparison chart. ALSO -- if all goes well, we should be offering a limited number of black pocket racks in all 3 designs sometime next week.
I have picked up on your great concept of recycling the backs of old iPhone cases as the backing plate, (which work awesome because they have a natural retaining wall all around one side, and are a natural platform for velcro on the other) and use two of them (as in this video) inside of a "Clakit XL" pouch. This pouch has two separate zippered compartments (perfectly sized, one for each case back) and has the advantage of a kind of proprietary clip that can attach horizontally (belt) or vertically (backpack strap). (No connection, just something I found that works.) Another concept I've added is complementary packs. The most compact set, one pack that is easiest to body carry all the time, which, complements/ works with and adds to, what's in another (also small) pack that might be simultaneously backpacked or kept in a vehicle. The second pack has stuff that works with but doesn't fit in, or weighs too much for the first. Though the first can stand alone.... So you can choose to go very small/ light and grab only one, or go bigger with both depending on the situation. Thanks for ideas!
That sounds really interesting. If you feel like it, share some photos of your setup on our Reddit page here: www.reddit.com/r/Earthling_EDC/ Many thanks for taking the time to post..
I love your videos, and the website is looking really good! It seems counter intuitive to take off the clips. Especially the two-way clip - couldn’t you clip it to the card? It gives it more utility if you can easily mount the light to different places. It’s why I like the Rovyvon a-series with the magnet clip (I have a little elastic loop on mine too). It’ll clip or stick or loop onto anything. I can use it in so many ways.
@JamesBryant-nz1oo - It is completely counter intuitive. The only reason I remove them is so that they will take up the least amount of room on the pocket racks. If you are going to keep them in you pocket or in a pouch, it's probably better to leave the clips on. This video was an exercise in storing flat flashlights on pocket racks, so taking off the clips was warranted in this case. Thanks for taking the time to post.
@JamesBryant-nz1oo When you clip it to the card, depending on the location of the clip on the light, it may expand the amount of space that is necessary to store the Rack. the clip will also get in the way of tools that you might want to store on the opposite side of the rack.
@@EarthlingEDC I was thinking about my own carry and I get it. I think you said yourself that there’s always a trade off. Space vs Weight vs Utility. In order to get the best of one you need to sacrifice something else. It’s all about what is important to you and what you need in a given situation.
Sold out already any news when another batch will be out. Looking at the mini rack. Or a credit card sized rack that I could use in my wallet with an alox bantam and victorinox replacment scissors.
@Tlaloc223 - Thank you for your post. I'll be loading another batch this Friday evening. I can only handle a limited number of orders, so that I can process the orders over the weekend. To be clear, you can always download the STL files at www.thingiverse.com/search?q=pocket+rack+EDC&page=1#google_vignette for free and get a local printer to make them for you, or upload it to one of the many online services that will print and ship them to you.
@ Olight Arkfield Pro because I wanted a flat, deep pocket carry with a green laser beam for emergency signaling. This one light replaced two carry items. Still in the early stages of testing…
This is quite kismet. I recently considered adding a flashlight to my EDC, but decided against it because of the added bulk. Then I saw a flat flashlight on sale at my local hardware store. Been carrying it for a couple weeks, and I haven't even noticed it in my pocket.

Is the pocket rack mini the same as the file marked “pocket rack small” in the download ? Thanks
Yes, that would be the correct file.
@ awesome thanks

I recently got a flat flashlight and am trying it out.
@Olyphoto7 - Thanks for taking the time to post. What did you end up getting. Just curious.
