This was an interesting build. With so many manufacturers now coming out with these small multitools, I thought it would be a good time to incorporate one into an EDC kit built on a pocket rack. Very interested to hear what you think. thanks for watching and don't forget to share it with someone if you like it 🙂.
Modifying a jigsaw blade to be used in the Nextool is brilliant, and adds a lot of value to that tool that I didn't see when I looked at it previously.
@davidvolsky7713 - Thanks for the feedback. It was a surprise to me that the u-Shank jigsaw blades actually fit the Nextool E1 with just a couple small mods. Thanks again for you post.
@rogerp.2442 - thanks for taking the time to post. - This is fun for me. The tech keeps evolving and viewers come up with ideas, I then get to try them out and show what they look like in these videos...It's exciting when everything comes together and it creates something new. What's not to like? :-)
@leodesforges161 - Same problem for me. I have the XL hands and have found the vise grips to be a good solution, but still like the 4" cobra for it's compact size.
Just discovered your channel and am loving the pocket rack system. Pure genius. I'm wondering if anyone has thought of attaching a pocket rack to the underside of the center console lid in a vehicle. I've been trying to upgrade my simple edc tools in my vehicles and was planning on just using a small pouch. Then the light clicked and I thought "why not use a one-sided pocket rack (or two) velcroed to the underside of the console"? It seems like it would be a great use of this space. Now I just need to find someone to print me some racks. Keep the innovations coming.
@deakemarschall2992 - Thank you for your post. What you are describing sounds perfect as a way to have EDC storage in your car. I have not heard of anyone doing what you describe, but you could be the first to give it a try. If you decide to do it, post some photos to our Reddit page: www.reddit.com/r/Earthling_EDC/ . looking forward to seeing how it comes out.
That nextool with ratchet is interesting. Does the bit you put the ratchet into lock into place pretty well? Seems like it would try to fold down when turning in a certain direction.
@Tbrooks4104 - You are correct, the Nextool connector holding the ratchet does not lock in place, so you will need to disengage the Nextool from the ratchet and just flip over so that the hinge does not fold. Good quest.... I hope this was a helpful answer.
@EarthlingEDC Yes it was helpful, thank you very much for the reply. It seems like a simple enough solution. I've been looking all around youtube for a pocket edc kit that I liked, and yours are by far and away my favorite designs. Big props for such an awesome idea, and extra props for making it open source.
@rhoenellouan7332 - Thanks for your feedback. These are all DIY ideas and really don't require a machine shop to make them. I hope you have the opportunity to try some of these for yourself. Thanks again for your post.
Truly impressive in so many ways! BTW, you can easily open that battery compartment with a nail if you’re simultaneously squeezing it shut with your other hand. Also, you can switch back and forth between AA and rechargeable. Mine is done with 4 rapid on the top button, but it’s a different model. Thanks for sharing these helpful ideas with everyone.
@johnmcdonald3689 - Thanks for the tip on the E5. I just tested it and it has the same functionality as yours, for switch between the two power supplies. Rovyvon actually wrote to me this morning and gave me the same solution for releasing the latch. It does work, but shouldn't it just work without having to take extra measures to open it? It's not a huge deal. the bottom line is that they make really great premium flashlights and if this is the biggest issue with the E5, it's actually not an issue :-)
@@EarthlingEDC My understanding is that the press down is required to keep the battery compartment more water/dust sealed. Feels like a reasonable trade-off to me!
@edinburghtubes - I have no objection to the latch being where it is and I understand the reason for it being secure. I just think that the first time owner of one of these is going to struggle with it at until they figure it out and take a mini prybar (or something similar) to it like I did. Rovyvon makes great premium flashlights. I own several of them. When you find a minor flaw on something that is really nice, it stands out more than it should :-)
@stevendebruin2222 - Thanks for your feedback. In regard to a TSA approved rack, as long as you remove any items with blades, I have not had any problems. I actually had a couple of TSA folks at LAX admiring my mini rack setup. For that flight I had swapped in a prybar and a pair of folding scissors instead of the small Nextool Mini Sailor multitool that I've been carrying on it lately. That setup has gone through several airports.
Some interesting new ideas you have added. I'm not sure how much use the gluestick will be without a lighter though. I recently picked up a 3D printer as I have always wanted to make something similar to your pocket rack, but thats longer and would fit into a 30 round mag pouch.
@Mr.BuckshotFTW - Woops! I left the BiC out because it would not fit. My intent was to replace it with a peanut lighter because it would fit on the rack. Evidently I forgot. For the larger Rack that you are suggesting, you could just use one of the open source STL files on Thingiverse.com as a starting point then modify it to fit your needs. Best of luck and I'd love to see what this looks like when you are done. If you get a chance, please post it to www.reddit.com/r/Earthling_EDC/
Well done 👍 What’s the weight of this kit build? As my edc continues to evolve, I find myself concerned about weight, not enough to sell a kidney for an all titanium kit. We build, we adjust, we build again! I like this latest rack. I’m going to carve one out of a plastic sheet I recently bought.
@Olyphoto7 - Thanks for taking the time to post. I think it was 13.2 ounces. Which is a bit much for a pocket, but ideal for a small pouch in a back pack or a sling bag. Swap out some tools to get it to the weight that you want.. Thanks again for you comment.
I love the new design of the rack. I bought myself a 3D printer so that I can print one. Have you made a new version of the mini one too? (that’s my favourite). 🫡
@JamesBryant-nz1oo Thanks for your post. I have not made a new version of the mini rack with the center cleats. I'd be very interested to see how you might make one.

The ratchet is cool, but it's kind of overkill for screwdriver tips. Maybe for nut drivers, perhaps? But I don't think you could apply more torque with that ratchet than a screwdriver.
@roy.mclean - Thanks for taking the time to post. That's an interesting idea. I might actually test that to see if there is a big difference in how much torque can be applied with the 711L ratchet vs a screw driver. For this video, I was looking for small compact tools that will fit into this kit, the size, weigt and capability of the tools are big factors. A standard sized screw driver would not work for this application. There is one in the multitool though. Thanks for your post. It is greatly appreciated.
