Whether direct and intentional or subtle and misinformed, most of us (survivors of childhood trauma) have experienced victim blaming.
It can come from people we love, society, or even ourselves.
In today’s video, I respond to a community member’s question about how to respond to victim blaming from a previously recorded live broadcast.

Hi Peggy, I hope you're enjoying your trip. My mother kept telling me to stop playing the victim and living in the past. I was told I was just seeking attention and being self-indulgent. I stopped involving her in my healing journey a long time ago! I've learned through trial and error who not to talk to and who to trust. I protect myself now.❤🌼

I'm sorry your mom behaved in this way. It causes so much more hurt. I'm glad you've been able to recognize who is safe to share with. Thank you for sharing. ❤️

Thank you for this video. My mom shamed and victim blamed me today for wanting to move out of state to protect myself and my kids. Said I’m just running away from my problems and playing victim 😢 so hurt and sad

I'm so sorry you're mom isn't providing the support you deserve. ❤️ There are times that moving away can be the best way to take care of yourself, particularly if boundaries are not being respected. Thank you for watching and sharing.

I'm sorry you haven't had the support you need or deserve. Depending on where you live, this may not be relevant but, you can try contacting your local rape crisis center for advocacy (and counseling if desired) to see if there is something that might help. Thank you for watching and sharing your experience.
