  • This content covers gender-based violence, specifically domestic violence against women highlighting that societal and cultural norms, such as victim-blaming, contribute to the prevalence of domestic violence. Despite government and welfare organization efforts, domestic violence is still rampant and is considered an epidemic. Nurul provides suggestions for victims of domestic violence, including keeping evidence, seeking medical attention, and reaching out to hotlines or women's aid organizations. She emphasizes that domestic violence is not the victim's fault and encourages them to reach out for help. A dedicated advocate for youth and women's empowerment, and a trained communicator with her experience as a communication lecturer, her involvement with the international forum focusing on communication and speaking gigs in 17 different countries around the world. Currently, she is the founder of Project Fearless Malaysia, both of these initiatives aimed at empowering young people to prepare themselves for the future. Through mentorship programs, workshops, international conferences and other activities, the project arms the youth with the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their personal and professional lives. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
