When did wagon become a bad word in cars? I have had a station wagon for years and it is a god sent. I can haul so much stuff and people, it is fun to drive. The whole shaming of cars is why we are paying top dollar for oversized non practical cars.
I'm currently car shopping - and honestly wish there were more wagons and hatchbacks. But, I agree with the comments - I don't know why people in North America hate on wagons so much. They are phenomenal and much better than all these weird small SUV's with basically zero trunk space
I agree. Companies push SUVs over wagons and hatchbacks in USA because SUVs are classified as light trucks and have easier regulations, especially for fuel economy.
They don’t. Automakers don’t want to make wagons because CAFE emissions requirements are more lax for crossovers. If there was sensible legislation for tailpipe emissions in NA, you’d see wagons everywhere. But our government is designed to be ineffective and corporations are designed to make money.
Agreed. I love wagons, had Outbacks until I wanted something more premium, now I have a '22 RX V6. This is my favorite new Toyota/Lexus since the Lexus SC. Make a full on Lexus version, dropping the SUV pretense, and take my money!
Toyota should've brought over the drop dead gorgeous Crown Sport to North America instead. It's a much more compelling car or at least make a Prius Cross that looks exactly like the Crown Sport but smaller and at a lower starting price
I recently bought a used Lexus RX350 with the same tan interior and a dark red exterior, so I basically have a first generation 2021 Toyota Crown Signia.
Wagon guy here. I use a lightweight wheelchair and take it apart placing it on the passenger seat. The wagon is perfect in that it is easier to transfer in and the cargo space holds the wheelchair w/o taking it apart. I owned a MBZ 1990 E300 wagon for about 8-9 years before the maintenance was killing me then traded it in for a 2006 Volvo V70R (new). I recently added a 2021 MBZ All Terrain wagon which is a tad lower than the SUVs. It works but I wish it was a few inches lower. A used AMG e63 wagon would work but as most know a 2021 comes in at around $90-100K. I am hoping the Crown wagon works since it may be a car to own. I hope the wheelchair fits in the boot with the back seats remaining up. We will see.
I find this a really interesting vehicle but I still like the design of our '21 Venza. Just wish we could have got the tan interior with the blueprint blue exterior.
This has actually become not just a Crown that I actually like but one of my favorite SUVs ever. Look, I want my cars to be nice enough, and this is nice enough :), with lots of space and practicality while being a hybrid so you get decent MPGs and it's comfortable, plus, it should be reliable because it's a Toyota. So personally, I don't need my cars to be nicer than this if that means massive price and weight hikes, plus, most premium SUVs tend to have harsher suspension because they like to pretend they are sporty but that doesn't speak to me, if I want a sports car I would just buy a sports car :) So yeah! This is pretty much perfect for what I would want in an SUV so I LOVE it (Despite the CUV sound 💀)
Yes, station wagons are back! I like that it is less boxy, much lower (though I did like being up high for visibility) and this really should have car like dynamics since it is a car in wagon form). It's time to stop pretending that we're "active" people, we are not, we go shopping and haul the offspring to their games and practices. The Venza that this is replacing went up $5K in the last 3 years without any upgrades and this is another $5K or more than the Venza so Toyota can maintain their position as the most profitable car maker in the world and it's less efficient on top of that. All that said, STATION WAGONS are back baby, finally getting what we actually need rather than the pretentious "tough off roaders" that we NEVER actually used. The few that do will buy the 4 runner.
@@JonathanDavisJJmost of America is too insecure for wagons, they’d get SUVs instead unfortunately. We’re the minority here sadly, wanting wagons in the US.
You guys made this seem much cooler than even all the Toyota marketing. I don’t mind these wagons being called crossovers to pull the wool over some folks eyes.
It would be interesting to check out the trunk/back, with seats down and show it's estate/cargo capacity. Seams to be an important feature to speak about. Good job overall, as always. You guys got style.
I love wagons, and had Outbacks until I wanted something more premium, now I have a '22 RX V6. This is my favorite new Toyota/Lexus since the Lexus SC. Make a full on Lexus version, without the SUV pretense, and take my money!
Hate to break it to you. Lexus is not gonna make a version of this. They have plenty of hybrid SUVs and selling like hotcakes. Lexus family household here, have 3 in currently.
When they have the same engineer between Lexus and Toyota. The design philosophy will look very similar across these two brands. This crown utilizes some of the RX/NX feature. With that price, better get the more luxurious and comfort ride in the Lexus.
Thanks for talking about the brake pedal feel! I cannot stand the hybrids where the last few feet of stopping could either be smooth or be a neck-breaking grabby stop.
The advantage of a Plug in hybrid over a standard one is minimal - you’re actually going to be less efficient under non -EV operation due to the extra weight of the plug in battery.
Going from this video to Throttle House's video on this car, and saw the suction ring mark on the moon roof, and then saw that Throttle House has their camera mounted exactly where that suction ring mark is.
It would be nice if Toyota made the Signia actually look like a wagon instead of guessing if it's a CUV/wagon. I'm not sure about sales if the made a CUV or wagon. Their lineup of crossovers is expansive: Corolla Cross, bZ4x, RAV4, Signia, 4Runner, Venza, Land Cruiser, Highlander, Grand Highlander, and Sequoia. Toyota has sedans, hatchback, crossovers, minivan, trucks, and sports cars. Having a wagon could help not only diversify their crossover-heavy lineup but have different, yet practical body style for those who are tired of seeing crossovers/SUV's.
It really is. I'd lower this but lowering always decreases ride quality unless you go for some crazy expensive set up. This lowered maybe just an inch or two would be perfect. Id love to maybe get one of these used but i know how Toyota holds value. Speaking of wagons though i had a Toyota fielder in Jamaica and I'm telling you it was literally perfect. I hate how companies can give stuff to some countries and not to others and it's funny how almost every enthusiast loves wagons but we don't buy them. Id get this
Something that always drives me crazy about Toyota is they never provide a combined torque figure for their three motor hybrids. I’m not sure if there just isn’t a great way to do it with the way their hybrids work, but given the performance I would just assume it’s competitive with the competition. It’s likely this has about as much torque as a Santa Fe hybrid, Sorento hybrid, etc
Iv always liked the first gen venza, not sure why they didn't just run with that name if they were so intent on renaming it for north america. Either way, hope to see more of these on the road. They look great
This seems to be more appropriate as a successor to the 2014 Venza which was basically a Camry Crossover. More comfortable and built on the same platform. The current Venza is a big miss.
You guys asked about the meaning of Signia. It’s derivative from the word insignia. Insignia (the plural of Latin insigne: emblem, symbol) is a symbol or token of personal power, status or office, or of an official body of government or jurisdiction. Insignia are especially used as an emblem of a specific or general authority. Typical examples of insignia are: Crowns.
I like doing my own oil changes and seems darn near impossible to find 0w8 oil off the shelf these days. I’ll wait on this until the dealer doesn’t charge $16/quart or Autozone starts carrying 0w8
this desperately needs a battery assist to increase torque. (a Rav4 Prime version of this would be amazing) With a little more horsepower and a lot more torque, this WAGON would rule. I LOVE the way it looks - it's so much better looking than the basic crown.
When did wagon become a bad word in cars? I have had a station wagon for years and it is a god sent. I can haul so much stuff and people, it is fun to drive. The whole shaming of cars is why we are paying top dollar for oversized non practical cars.
E55 AMG Wagon gang 💪
Bro in bangladesh i saw a bunch of jdm import wagons, like Toyota Proboxes, Corolla Fielders with these cool-ass bodykits, lowered
Since moms started getting the good family car and dads either have a company vehicle or they get the beater car.
Well, pretty much no wagons in NA except maybe the Outback
Agreed. I have a Mercedes wagon and it is mostly amazing.
I'm currently car shopping - and honestly wish there were more wagons and hatchbacks. But, I agree with the comments - I don't know why people in North America hate on wagons so much. They are phenomenal and much better than all these weird small SUV's with basically zero trunk space
2024 hyundai santa fe hybrid is worth looking at. 34mpg, big trunk (when you fold the 3rd row seats down)
Compare to SUV with similar size, they're generally pricier, and back seat is tighter due to the middle seat hump.
I agree. Companies push SUVs over wagons and hatchbacks in USA because SUVs are classified as light trucks and have easier regulations, especially for fuel economy.
They don’t. Automakers don’t want to make wagons because CAFE emissions requirements are more lax for crossovers. The wagon hate does not cross the USA-Canada border. We never stopped loving wagons in Canada.
This might be the coolest looking vehicle Toyota has come out with in quite a while. Like it much more than the Crown.
Give some hope and excitement for the future
It's the 👑. Technically.
Check out the Japanese exclusive Crown Sport. Way better looking than this Signia. It's literally a Toyota Purosangue
Agreed. I love wagons, had Outbacks until I wanted something more premium, now I have a '22 RX V6. This is my favorite new Toyota/Lexus since the Lexus SC. Make a full on Lexus version, dropping the SUV pretense, and take my money!
Especially lowered looking @ 1:17

The Sport is sex on wheels , hoping they do bring it over too !
Vehicle manufacturers "Nobody buys wagons!" Also vehicle manufacturers - Come out with a really expensive wagon that's as heavy as an SUV.
Yes! If it had that rear end of the Crown Sport I would so get this to replace my first gen Venza!
but in japan crown sport is way more expensive then crown crossover
well well well, just saw your comment on the throttle channel
It's giving lexus RX front end, Corolla Cross and lexus rear, and UX vibes. This is a win. Let see what the refreshed RAV 4 looks like.
I hope they bring the Crown Sport next, this red is 🔥
If there's one thing you're guaranteed with that powertrain, it's reliability!
It looks so fucking good lowered.
Front has a bit of Purosangue vibes.. rear has RR Velar vibes. Not a bad design.
I thought the rear looked more Corolla Cross. I wanted to replace my Venza with this but I dislike that rear end! just comes off cheap to me!
If u think this has a purosangue vibe, check out the Crown sport SUV JDM. 😅
After owning a Honda Crosstour for many years I may have finally found my next car.
Wagons & minivans are two of the most practical, rational vehicles that meet most of consumer needs.
Drove a (manual)ford focus estate in Switzerland. Was a cool car and held almost as much luggage as my wifes Outback. Def bring back the Wagons
I have zero issues with this being a wagon. Looks really good. Better than the Crown Sedan IMO. Thank you guys for the review. Top notch as always ❤
Love this! Toyota has revamped their design department for sure
looks so good when lowered
We just need to embrace the wagon once again. Spacious and practical it does it all!
It’s a shame the window sills aren’t higher. Any chance to reduce visibility is a great idea.
Next refresh, the sill will be at forehead height.
Copper one looks really sweet
Finally the long waited signia
Id only buy it as a wagon. Looks MUUUUCH better as a wagon. Especially in white🔥
But it is a wagon. Toyota can't fool me

Long Live the WAGON !! …. 1:16 would do that immediately ❤
This checks all the boxes for what I want in my next vehicle
Seems like the further we get into the future the more older vehicles they redesign or should I say bring back to life like the Crown
the crown has always been around, just mainly in japan. it's actually their longest running vehicle line

That photoshop lowering down is what ive been looking for in terms of height comparison. Well done!

Not sure why the didn’t put the hybrid max option in this but it is a really nice car!

When I saw the word wagon all I could think of was Chevy Chase Christmas vacation 😂
I wish NA was getting the PHEV version that JP is getting! That would make this the perfect dad wagon
I wish that too. Maybe some day...

I like the subtle grill. Maybe we can start to move away from the ridiculously large grills of recent years.
slo-mo visor test replay is crazy

No Canadian price?
it looks so good lowered
So much better than the Crown even though it seems like a reverse engineered UX. This might have me holding off on a purchase.
This lowered is fuego
The way to make a good sun visor (9:30) is to make dual sun visors for both front seats (see cayenne, explorer, etc.)
Team HUD! Hope Toyota brings it to this model sooner rather than later

And we're finally back to exactly where we started: wagons. WAGONS ARE ALWAYS THE ANSWER.
Weird that I can’t build and price this model yet.
Why no Crown badging on the vehicles themselves in North America?
I wish Toyota would make a plugin hybrid version of this
Honestly if crossovers keep evolving into what the Crown Signia looks like, I would fine with that.
They are too low. I’ll have to buy a Land Cruiser.
