The one thing I hate about the CX-30 styling is the excessive amount of plastic cladding, I remember the regular CX-50 was one of the best looking SUVs I had ever seen, but when I saw this video it just didn't look as pretty and I was like "Oh, we must have overrated the CX-50's styling, this is just the CX-30's terrible plastic cladding all over again" But when you mentioned it was actually taller and had more cladding it all made sense and yes, that's exactly why it looked weird, even the front felt weird, it felt like a bus, kinda, but that's exactly it. I wish Mazda would kill all sorts of plastic cladding. It just makes a cara look weird, there are ways to do it right (Look at the Lamborghini Urus for that) but in the way Mazda does it, it just looks terrible.
Great review as always, guys. In the spirit of asking for things, I have one request. Can you start adding child seat installation considerations to your videos? It's a huge factor for parents choosing cars.
I don't understand why the US gets screwed for features. Mazda in general, their trim levels and so on is just way complicated then it needs to be too. I waited all this time for the hybrid version, keeping myself away from buying the Turbo Premium Plus...in hopes that the hybrid is going to have the same trim/features as the turbo ones but with the benefit of the way better fuel economy. To be honest, I'm just looking for something that is more fuel efficient than my current car, so the turbo might be ok, I only would be going from a 16 MPG (23 gallon tank) vehicle to a 25 MPG (15 gallon tank), Id save about half on fuel per year going to the turbo. The hybrid is appealing because you save more and so on... just disappointing the hybrid in the USA is "more bare bones".
I have experience with both and I far prefer the mazda, but i think most people will prefer the comfier ride and more touch-centric infotainment of the toyota, and wont notice the lower quality interior, crappy handling at higher cornering speeds, etc. The parking sensor beeping in the rav4 will drive your rear passengers deaf.
Kinda disappointed it’s a full Toyota drivetrain instead of Toyota’s tech/info to hybridize the 2.5 skyactiv. Not really sure the point of buying this over a rav4 hybrid besides it being a little nicer
I prefer the rugged look of the Petro version. And what's the real story on the seats and the center stitching, cuz my other preferred reviewers said it's not a thing. Hmmm.
is 10.4/100km on an SUV bad? Im driving a 2017 CX5 at 10.6 and quite satisfied with it...sure its worse than my 2014 Mazda3 at around 8.0 but tha'ts a smaller car... sooo
Companies are straight lying about consumption.....I got mazda3 sport (not turbo) 2022, I think it said 6.4L, I spend 9.1 - 9.9. There is NO WAY to go lower. So I'm assuming for this car, it would be similar.
I hate that as Canadians we now decide which car to buy based on car theft trends. How pathetic is that? Viewers outside Canada might think you were joking with that quip but it’s a sad fact. It’s really a shameful indictment of the state of our Country in 2024. We pay more for everything comparatively to the US and get far inferior services in return. Property theft gets a collective shrug from law enforcement.
yeah, gonna just get a used 50 turbo premium plus for around $32k instead. The prices on this don't make sense in Texas, where gas is only $2.69 a Gallon
I sat inside a CX-50........Very nice fir and finish inside but the seats.....wow they hurt, I couldn't get comfortable in any position. Cx-70 and 90 are good though.
way better than RAV4… less waiting time and better interior And most importamtly… I do not like to see corolla and RAV4 driving at 90kmph in HOV lane on HWY 401/403.😝
Put a deposit on a Rav4 Prime based on TSP review... It was a joke. The only PHEV's we drove that were even worthwhile were the Volvo and Audi. It's just hard to believe these hybrids with no power get that much better MPG if they're floored all the time....
Weirdly, on the opposite side: I used to own a Toyota/Scion with a skyactiv engine. A rebranded Mazda, which they dont sell in the US. Very weird to explain. especially since it went from being a Scion iA to a Toyota iA after Scion went away, then it was the Toyota Yaris iA.
If I were between the Mazda and Toyota, I'd just get the Mazda with some seat covers. I have a feeling that the seats are not really that bad. They just need to do some squats.
38mpg?…..I sold a 2010 Prius that was still getting 42-43 MPG… more than 10 years later and no new tech for MPG? Glad I got the wife a used Model 3. No more gas stations.
Plug in = new tech. Also, Prius is TINY, muuuuch lighter and suuuuper slippery through the air compared to this. That the CX50h gets about the same MPGs as that sh*tbox you drive *is* the new tech.
@@mattclark1278I don’t think this one is a PHEV…. But I guess you’re saying 15ish years and a slightly larger SUV won’t get you better MPG… or speed. Still slow. Still going to gas stations. The 2021 Model 3 drives better, faster, no oil changes, go gas stations. Charge at home. $25K.
@@ThreeDogsTwoCatsAndAWife The 70 and 90 are PHEVs. That's new tech compared to your 2010. And the fact that this 4000+ pound suv gets essentially equivalent mileage as your old prius - and *is* faster, on 87 octane - demonstrates that technology has improved.
Do the seats still feel like they're filled with cement? That was the deal killer for the CX-50. Went with a Venza... The most attractive feature of the CX-50 was the drivetrain, so without it, those seats wouldn't be worth it for me. 😕
I don't understand why the fuel economy is so low on every Toyota hybrid drivetrain but like the 2025 Camry and Prius variants. Their 50 miles per gallon blows 30 something away - why the huge difference?
100% true. But if your goal is to keep a car on the road for 25 years, I'd still rather have a Toyota or a Honda. A big part of what keeps a car running is the availability of parts, repair expertise, donor cars, special tools, etc

But when you mentioned it was actually taller and had more cladding it all made sense and yes, that's exactly why it looked weird, even the front felt weird, it felt like a bus, kinda, but that's exactly it.
We try to show it whenever we remember
This the sexiest SUV on the roads right now. Turn my head every time I see one, idk why it’s just so symmetrical & attractive.
17 Seconds after posting. Good Morning Straight pipes!
C’Mon Mazda - get rid of these “thong song” seats and I’m buying this car.
Great review guys!
This is a RAV 4 review. The capitalized TOYOTA in the title says it all.
I saw a Ghanaian number plate when he showed the RAV4. Greetings from Ghana 🇬🇭😗
Maybe you’ll see this exact car with Ghana plates soon 😂
If this thing was a Mazda Rav4 PRIME, it would slap so much harder.
I own a 2024 CRV Sport Touring hybrid. Is it worth trading it in for this one?
You are cool 😎 guys. Thanks for the reviews. Gracias amigos.
You are welcome, amigo.
What happens when Good meets Noble? = Hybrid CX-50.
If I was in the unfortunate situation of having to buy a hybrid crossover this would be the one.
Kinda disappointed it’s a full Toyota drivetrain instead of Toyota’s tech/info to hybridize the 2.5 skyactiv. Not really sure the point of buying this over a rav4 hybrid besides it being a little nicer
It looks a lot better, imo, that could be the difference that makes a difference.
I prefer the rugged look of the Petro version. And what's the real story on the seats and the center stitching, cuz my other preferred reviewers said it's not a thing. Hmmm.
What about the room inside compared to Toyota highlander
Why is MPG bigger displayed than L/100KM? Make metric system great again!🇨🇦
is 10.4/100km on an SUV bad? Im driving a 2017 CX5 at 10.6 and quite satisfied with it...sure its worse than my 2014 Mazda3 at around 8.0 but tha'ts a smaller car... sooo
Today we learned Yuri doesnt know about jockstraps.
Did you have Yuri pegged as some kind of athlete?
Companies are straight lying about consumption.....I got mazda3 sport (not turbo) 2022, I think it said 6.4L, I spend 9.1 - 9.9. There is NO WAY to go lower. So I'm assuming for this car, it would be similar.
It really depends on how and where you drive. I always drive my cars around or under the manufacturer claims.
The west coast of the United States is also like this. Times may be changing though.
I see Cliche Corner! 😁😁
This is the better looking Toyota.
👀
yeah, gonna just get a used 50 turbo premium plus for around $32k instead.
The prices on this don't make sense in Texas, where gas is only $2.69 a Gallon
Any price is worth it for the thong seats
I sat inside a CX-50........Very nice fir and finish inside but the seats.....wow they hurt, I couldn't get comfortable in any position. Cx-70 and 90 are good though.
I wonder if this still comes with Mazdas unlimited mileage warranty
way better than RAV4… less waiting time and better interior
And most importamtly… I do not like to see corolla and RAV4 driving at 90kmph in HOV lane on HWY 401/403.😝
Mazda is very lucky to have Toyota there.
That seat thing is odd looks nice car otherwise do they still make a Mazda 3 Sport 5 door
Put a deposit on a Rav4 Prime based on TSP review... It was a joke. The only PHEV's we drove that were even worthwhile were the Volvo and Audi. It's just hard to believe these hybrids with no power get that much better MPG if they're floored all the time....
You won’t get good mpg if you’re floored in anything. What didn’t you like about the rav4 that the more expensive Volvo and Audi did better?
A fine, seat-of-the-pants review.
I’d take the RAV 4. Roomier and its long term reliability and resale value is unmatched.
I just need to hear the gears changing, hybrid with e-cvt isn’t for me
Toyota is overrated and Mazda is underrated.... Simple as that !
😂😂😂
That’s bullshit. You wish Mazda had a success that Toyota has lol
Mazda cant even compete.
@@Toyota4Lifedude you have no idea how good Mazda is. Build quality is way better than Toyota.
Hmm
@@Toyota4Lifeone word…..Miata! lol
Hopefully the US gets the terra-cotta seats without the strip next year.
Mazda 2 hybrid in the Europe is actually a Yaris hybrid
If I were between the Mazda and Toyota, I'd just get the Mazda with some seat covers. I have a feeling that the seats are not really that bad. They just need to do some squats.
Will you guys please drive the new bmw x1 m35i?
I’m waiting on someone to give us a review on the preferred trim…. 😫
Yeah Mazda seats are always too firm for me - Jakub
How do you like your venza ? Have one but it's tight for me
These guys party hard at applebees
Take you to gapplebees in this hybrid
I don't understand why the fuel economy is so low on every Toyota hybrid drivetrain but like the 2025 Camry and Prius variants. Their 50 miles per gallon blows 30 something away - why the huge difference?
Weight. The Camry and Prius are much lighter and not AWD
I got the perfect solution for the seats spend a bit of money and get some decent seat covers for them if your interested in buying this vehicle
It is the shifter from a Toyota. The shifter is different from the gas CX-50
Mazda has scored higher than Toyota and Honda on reliability scores over the last 10 years.
100% true. But if your goal is to keep a car on the road for 25 years, I'd still rather have a Toyota or a Honda. A big part of what keeps a car running is the availability of parts, repair expertise, donor cars, special tools, etc
Mazda offering just the heated seat stich for a monthly subscription 😂
9:21 that’s a CRV hybrid..?
I can say gas mileage on my mazda 3 turbo is not great lol liking how this cx50 hyrbid looks
If I keep my foot off the floor. I pull 24 mpg combined in my CX-9 with the Skyactive G turbo.
That's because it literally IS just a motor swap! The CX-50 has been out for a while and was all Mazda.
Awesome 💯
You'll and Raiti both reviewing the same vehicle at the same time. 1 has red 1 has white. Both posted 5hrs ago.. I click y'all first👻
Appreciate you
Wooden bead car seat cover fixes the comfort issue and exudes style.
RIP Venza
Kinda bummed we don't get the saddle-colored interior in the US...
The US version of the premium plus hybrid is missing key features compared to the Canadian version and the US Turbo premium plus version which makes no sense.
