    You definitely missed quite a few things about this car. It has zero bespoke parts, quality proven electric motors, old school batteries, build quality of suspension, a few other things. I think its a perfect "Toyota" car built to last. They even put nice plastic caps on bolts for the suspension, they painted parts underneath that you wouldn't ever see just to protect them as an example. The levers you pull to drop the back seats down, you can pull them further back and quickly and they kick the seats down for you, so you don't have to reach.
    There are some other details you miss about the engine design improvements, the lexus hood release mechanism, that pops the hood should you rear end someone to prevent it from being damaged. Its a great wagon.
    I am very interested in this car, 42 married, no kids, the space in the back is perfect for bikes, hiking gear, trips to Costco, home depot for DIY projects. Without having to have a monster SUV or a truck. I think there is definitely a segment for this car. Been looking at cars/trucks/crossovers for about 1 year, but the cost of vehicles is just insane, so haven't bought anything. Still driving 2012 Camry, and 2004 Beetle, and doing Sound and vibration dampening materials, replacing old headliners, upgrading sound systems on the old cars to improve their driving experience, waiting for Car prices to fall. This car is way to expensive, but so is the entire market.

    Doug, I don't think you understand the point of the Crown. Japan introduced the new Crown series which included 4 cars, and so far we have 2. It is aimed to be the highest level experience of Toyota before going into Lexus hence the higher quality and driving experience. You are right, the Crown Signia is classified as estate everywhere but North America lol. Toyota says the Signia should fuse the estate feeling with the SUV, hence it is higher than normal estate but lower than an SUV. The crown we have which classified as Sedan...is actually a crossover, lifted sedan and they means to mix the feeling of a sedan with higher of a crossover. There is still the Crown Sport which is a small SUV with performance and Crown Sedan which is the most expensive but luxurious. The whole announcement of the car translated on UA-cam. Hope this helps and thank you

    Good review. I have a '25 signia limited and love it. It is lacking most attributes found in real SUVs/cross overs and is a bit pricy so not a good pick for everyone. I find it is a simple dependable station wagon with comfortable luxury and wonderful gas milage. Too bad Toyota has called it an SUV in the US. I think it is a more an upscale Camry wagon competing with small luxury wagons like Volvo and BMW with less cost of ownership not trying to compete with real SUVs or the more mundane Subaru or VW. And around town I am getting gas milage in the low 40s!

    Doug, there is something that you really just do not understand. The ELDERLY people will NOT buy a Highlander or any other TALL crossover/SUV because INGRESS and EGRESS are too difficult. Short people as well want something lower to the ground. This WAGON is a very smart design and a smart choice for many people regardless of price. Toyota knows this. IMHO the reason the Venza didn't sell better is because every single one of them that .. I .. saw had a black interior. Many people do not want a black interior especially at higher price points. I don't.

    imho, as a V60 owner, a key selling point of a wagon is easy roof access. the crown signia doesn't tick that box for me. and the outback hasn't been a wagon since the mid-2000's, anyone who thinks otherwise has clearly never tried getting a kayak on top of one.
    I see two problems with the crown signia. 1. I think there would be plenty of ppl who'd be happy to not have a 3rd row of seats, if it meant more sub-floor storage and a spare tire. As a canadian, our subfloor has like 3 winter coats, a sleeping bag or two, and a bunch of other emergency stuff, that hasn't seen daylight since the day they were put there. The crown signia doesn't have any space for any of that. 2. the golf sportwagen/alltrack died in 2019. the current entry point for ppl wanting a proper wagon in north america with a warranty, is the A4 allroad or V60 Cross country, both of which burn premium, and start at basically 50k. I think there's a market to be tapped, in offering a proper wagon at substantially less... but the signia isn't enough of a wagon, and it's not enough of a discount. I'd bet that most ppl who could live with a crown signia, ultimately buy CX-50s instead.

      The cars were so low and easy to damage. Americans will own cars for years and put tens of thousands of miles in them. Eventually we come across bad roads. I can't even get up drive ways or clear curbs at times. Roads inclining and declining suddenly is common and the cars are simply not made for the vast majority of roads. Even basic offroading in gravel can be too much. And you can damage the undercarriage.I'm not going hardcore offroading. But modern sedans and cars have lost the plot. Look at older sedans from the 80s all the way to the 1930s. Much higher up. CUVs are just replicating the principles of the cars from the 1940s.

    Good to know that Toyota has so many SUVs in US. Here in India they are basically rebadging and selling Maruti Suzuki cars for lower priced models and have stopped innovating at the premium Segment and stuck to same Innova and Fortuner which are honestly outdated and highly overpriced. Infact the Fortuner is more expensive than an entry level BMW or a Mercedes, priced at 60 Lakhs Indian Rupees-On Road Price. Would love to know @Doug's thoughts on this..

    Im a 34 year old, dad of 1 and got 2 60lb dogs. I currently have an Ascent, but the fuel economy on the freeway with camping gear and the family is just awful. I had an Outback prior to that but the CVT failed (I know the Ascent has a CVT too, so fingers crossed I suppose).
    I’m looking at the Crown Signia because it’s just a bit smaller LxW and shorter than my Ascent, seems like it would have space for my roof rack and for the dogs in the back. I would be getting about double the fuel economy, kinda wished there was a plug-in option for my short work commute.
    CX-70 is probably going to be my pick but it’s just so ugly and way more expensive.

      @@th003gI’d say the Venza had *different* premium features. As a ‘23 Venza Limited owner, I have a power, memory-linked steering column, dimmable skylight, head-up display and a 1200-watt audio system (vs. the Signia’s 800-watt). But the new Signia gets memory-linked mirrors, headlight washers and heated rear seats. I like the Signia but do prefer the Venza’s features (although I really wish my mirrors were memory-linked).

    The Toyota lineup is very clear and logical. The problem is that Americans seem to be incapable of understanding the difference between crossovers, SUVs and off-roaders - as Doug showed in this video. He clearly has no clue about these classes of cars, as evidenced in 2:32 and him using "crossover SUV" as one thing. Comparing a crossover (Crown Signia) to an SUV (Highlander) makes as much sense as comparing a sedan to a pick-up truck. A crossover is a higher version of a regular car. Just like this car. Highlander is clearly an SUV. Different type of car, different target audience, expectations and characteristics.
    Plus. 7s to 100 km/h - "not as slow as to be dangerous, but..."... 😵‍💫 Seriously? 7s in a family urban car is something to criticize?

    • @CarsandTechInfo
      @CarsandTechInfo 2 місяці тому +2

      No the Highlander is a. 3-row midsize crossover on the same platform as the Camry. The 4Runner is a proper off-roading SUV. So is the Sequoia which is an SUV based on the Tundra. The Land Cruiser is another off-road focusing SUV so those are 3 proper SUVs

    I'd spend less time categorizing it and more time on real concerns such as seat height from the ground, general visibility for the driver, visibility of front end (for pulling into parking), and interior space. The little cubby hole under the rear floor is a good spot for jumper cables. I struggle with where to put them in my 4Runner.
