I was there that morning, funny spotting you at my local parkrun Nick! (I did shout over and say hi at the finish as I was leaving). I'm 44, got into running just over a year ago. 26mins was my first effort at Poole, then managed my goal of sub 20 earlier this year with 19.34. Your channel has definitely helped along the way, Thanks!
I definitely didn't realize Quinn was a teenager until you posted the screenshot at the end! I love racing against "kids" who could theoretically be my children (I'm 38) makes me feel young :D Can't wait to see how Berlin goes!
Nice work, Poole ParkRun is always a great buzz with the mad dash across on the grass between the marshall funnel to start. Nice interviews too, Nigel is a bit of a local legend, he used to run the best nutrition and supplement shop in the area, always giving sound and sincere advice.
Thanks for a great video :) I've just started running (July) as an over 60 and completed my first parkrun at Upton House just up the road from Poole Park. I managed a much better time than I expected but still near the back and nowhere near the front runners so it is great to be able to see what a fast time looks like from the runners perspective. Very inspiring so thank you again.
Course record is 14.32. You are currently 31st with 15.16. These stats can all be found in the 5k app (purple icon with a runner on), along with age category records etc.
Fantastic for us both to catch up and say hi to you at our local parkrun, great watching the parkrun from the front of the pack POV as you ripped up the park with your speedy pace, instead of me languishing like a prickly hedge hog near the back Lol Just to say we've been watching your vids for a long time now, long may they continue, smash that marathon, Boom-Chaka-Laka :-)
Nice work Nick! Love the narration along the way and it really inspires me when I am racing -- I think, what would Nick be saying right about now? That course didn't look particularly fast with all the hairpin turns and having to navigate around other people in the park. Also, I didn't see as many marshals as there'd normally be. Solid run though and good luck in Berlin -- I'd be sending you good vibes from the other side of the Atlantic.
you can still see the event course records by going into the event history and sorting it by fastest times Ben Brown 14.32 fastest time at Poole parkrun.
One of my local park runs. Great route. You should try the moors valley one near ringwood. All off road and in the cool forest but nice smooth gravel tracks. Good running
@@justalilbester I got my PB there (17:30). It’s 3 and a bit laps around a park. No tight turns, no incline to speak of and all on tarmac. You run around a lake where it is slightly narrow but the first two laps it’ll be a non issue, lap 3 you might need to weave around others, though the 2 occasions I’ve done it I didn’t need to, as the lapped runners kindly stayed out of the way
Totally agree. Why are we running and one person getting there first if it’s not a ‘race’? To be inclusive you have to be able to support the fastest, as well as the slowest runners. Removing the records was totally pointless and no doubt squashed some people’s motivation completely
@@JamesOYCI did wonder watching it how many people have ended up in the lake, especially if there are still big groups bunched together 😂 stunning setting though!
Nick, well done!! Greetings from South Carolina, USA. I love these type of videos you put out of the races with the commentary! I find it helpful for me and I also show my son who runs cross country. Hes learning we all go through the same ups and downs in a race! I'm curious about your breathing during the race. This may sound dumb, but for me I can only breathe like the way it sounds you are when I go full send the last mile. Do you purposely do that the entire 5k to aid in getting enough oxygen as opposed to being more relaxed? Your heart rate is showing you arent red lining so Im guessing your body isnt making it that hard to breathe. Do you have any tips for breathing strategy? I hope this makes sense......I feel kinda weird asking. Just something I have noticed watching your 5K races. Thanks, again for videos like this as they help and are motivating! Good luck at your marathon!
Never feel weird asking :) to be honest when I watch the video back. It sounds like I’m breathing so heavy, but I’m actually comfortably working. I think it’s just because the camera is close to my mouth, so it sounds worse. Apparently nose breathing is the best. I’ve tried and can’t do it when I ran faster
Not as fast as you but yah, the good thing about the Insta360 I use the X3 and don’t record all the way because it heavy but whatever time I record it knows what distance I am at and pace 💪🏾
I would love to live in the UK. Running community seems so much bigger than here in Canada. Also, you have plenty of Parkruns to attend. Here they are non-existent 😅
Well done, i like your content bro!! I've got a 5K coming up on Wednesday where I'll be trying to get into the low 18 minute zone as a 29 year old... How long do you think it would take to fet into that 16minute zone? Is 2/3 years reasonable with consistent training? 🤔
Nice one! Do you find that the marathon endurance translates well to running fast shorter distances, or do you wind up stuck at a sort of "fast, but I could run longer at this pace if I had to"?
I am looking for some advice. I just recently got a garmin, and on my last Parkrun it said my heart rate got to 207 bpm. I am a healthy 18 year old male. Should I be worried? (Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar)
You need to run with an external HR monitor strap. I have the Garmin HR Pro + monitor and it works well. But no, at your age you should be able to get it over 200 💪🏻 keep working hard!
Hey Nick, question for you regarding breathing. In this video we can hear your breathing pattern clearly. Seemed like in the 1st K you were breathing out for 2 steps and breathing in for 2 steps, then you started breathing out for 1 step and breathing in for 2 steps. Do you pay attention to your breathing patterns at all when you run? In my case when I run at easy to moderate pace it's usually 3 steps in and 3 steps out, when I do a hard efforts its 2 in, 2 out, I don't recall ever doing 1 out 2 in. Just wondering if I am limiting myself by not breathing often enough. Cheers.
Thanks for analysing in this level of detail. I think as long as your HR is where you want it to be then you know you’re putting in the correct effort. I try keep it controlled work first half, before opening up. And then let the breathing take care is itself
Lol sub 16 runner here looking to make it sub 15 before the end of the year. I have a chance to run it today so i will be back in 45 minutes to tell you results
