Kudos to J Mills for thanking the marshall with less than 400m to go, when breathing is tough, let alone talking. This is a solid performance on a great parkrun, my local. Well done! 😂
I was at a cross country yesterday and could hear some whinging behind me from some very effeminate men complaining "it's not funneeeeeey" when they had the slightest bump into each other
Hello from Sydney. Slightly less competitive there, but we still have some very fast people. One of my local parkruns for example isn't super competitive. There, I can do sub-20 and almost always get top 5.
Some of my non-running friends always say that a park run must be easy in comparison to a half marathon. I always respond with a no chance, a 5km race or park run is brutal. Always feel like death afterwards. Brilliant running though👏🏻you have some speed in those legs.
After watching i went back to the beginning to see the start again. All that fuss and bustle, for the majority to fade out. I know what that fella means though, some people run zig zags and dont even realise theyre doing it
I don't do these congested parkruns, too many heroes for my liking, I'll stick to the woods parkrun with the mud and hills as it's not the most popular, suits me 😎
Beautiful little run there my old son. I was aiming for a first sub 18:50 pb on Saturday, I was running like a dream until 3.2k and the calf started giving me gip so I had to stop, pissed off was an understatement!
this is so funny listening to the commentary as my brothers are j mills and d mills.......but they both weigh about 18 stone apiece so i was surprised to hear about them in that lead pack lol
Hey, really enjoy the vids. Couple q's...what's your equipment set up like. What camera, what program do you use to create the overlay, what editing software do you prefer etc
Hey mate, thanks! I use an insta360go3 and the overlay is built into the software, I can just pull in my Garmin data with a few clicks really easily before rending the file. For editing I'm using Davanci Resolve and still very much getting my head around using it haha!
Nice one Jody, well done, don't you just love when someone overtakes and cuts right across in front of you, I gave someone a gentle push once and unfortunately they went over ! 😮 Good luck at Brighton, normally a class field there and good for a PB attempt.
Great run. I've not done Burgess parkrun but have been to nearby Dulwich which is a pretty fast 3 lap course with just a gentle climb at the start of each lap and nice wide paths. Looks quite narrow and congested at the start there.
I ran a 10k last Sunday, the first 5k was at 18:06 and the second was a 19:06 putting me at 37:12 for a 10k rather proud of it tbh which is rare, today I ran a 5k and barely ran a 18:02 BUT the wind was a consistent 11.2 miles per hour pushing against me at every turn, so what I’m asking is, can someone tell me if I could have ran much faster with better condition? Or just less wind because the course was also mostly up hill at 53 F
Thank you! I use an insta360go3 and it's let's me pull my Garmin data in and overlay it with the click of a few buttons. I believe it works for Coros too now!
I really like your videos and as an ultra runner I'd like to start filming some of my races. What type of equipment are you using for it to look so stable when running?
Good job ! I am watching from the Cosmo in Las Vegas- the way I feel right now I may never run again d so I’ll have to run vicariously through you 😱🙄🤣😂
Wow you make it look easy .. how have you trained over your running career to get so darn fast? Do you focus on 5k or do you train for longer runs like half marathon, marathon
Initially very much ran to be quick for 5Ks but now I'm generally training to gradually build my mileage up to benefit every distance. 2 workouts a week. Easy and steady runs around, with a Longrun, nothing fancy!
This video made me realize how high my heart rate gets. It gets to about 180 when I’m jogging and during a race like this is would get to about 215 to 220
If you're in your teens or twenties, 200+ could be a normal variant. A scatter chart of HR variability will illustrate why the 220-age thing is a bit limited.
Superb finish. If you ever fancy pacing me to my first sub 19 over the Xmas period give me a shout, perhaps somewhere like Worthing if you’re ever down Eastbourne way again!
Great commentary 🤣Was Blue Coat heat training, or what? Slightly over-dressed 🥵I love seeing what happens at the pointy end. Lots of aggro, apparently. Our parkrun is far too genteel for that type of behaviour. I just mutter not-quite-under my breath 🤐
Great to see some more parkrun content, although people definitely need to calm down a bit at the start. What does the guy say at the start? cant make it out.
I honestly wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this video because watching people who are slower than you isn't always so interesting it's your commentary that got me hooked and subscribed to you! Keep up the good commentary.
Cheers mate! Yeah, I think it's gotten way busier in recent years and they might need to think about moving the start line. Not sure if it's possible though!
That did not look like the most enjoyable PR course. Busy, and too many trying to get a fast start out of narrow blocks. Then not much better heading back passing the train. Giving me anxiety just watching. Well done though. Blocked out the noise and hammered it. Burgess will not be on my to-do list!

Interesting following your stats/timing as you go through the 5k. My thoughts, transitioning k3-4 your push your heart rate 5 bpm above your aerobic/anaerobic threshold and so as a result 'stifle' yourself for this k; you were doing ~182bpm for ~3.45/55 pace as a result of having gone anaerobic earlier and not been able to rid yourself naturally of the lactic acid. I thing here [3-4k transition] if you had eased off for ~1min to get your BPM back to threshold you would have had a better [faster] last 1.5k, with the last 300m as a sprint going anaerobic as you just about cross the lane [as you were anyway].
You mentioned red top, blue top, white top, even pink top but what about poor grey top who held the pace the whole time 🤔 justice for grey top (guy with manbun )
Despite the always fully chaotic start, I do love Burgess - it's the combination of the long flat straights and the free bananas at the end, I think. How the heck is blue coat running that fast in a mac? I would have hit a D Mills-esque heart rate and fully melted within 5 minutes.
Yeah, I think it's quicker than Dulwich for me! And yes hahaha, forgot about the bananas, that was needed at the end! No idea 🤣🤣 I would have sweated out the Channel!
Yes, blue coat, also wearing sunglasses on a not so sunny day, so trying to look very cool, like this is just a training run. Red top does make the running look very easy, like he is just out for a jog.
Everyone has to take a token at the end, and if they have their parkrun barcode both the token and barcode get scanned, and linked in the results, to the token number/position. So a forgotten barcode, or non registered runner, will show as unknown.
Looks like my idea of hell. Public park, acting like it's an iron-man, in a public!! Park. It's supposed to be enjoyable and fun and encourage people to gey into health and fitness.
Terrible course for the park run. At just over 3km you're running against very slow runners who are inconsiderate by being 2-abreast. No need whatsoever when you're that slow.
I love the grass running gazelles, gracefully firing out , looking like sub 15 runners, only to drop back on the first hill 😂
Hehehe, I always enjoy it greatly 🤣

Absolutely...anyone that doesn't thank the Marshalls at a parkrun is a .....
“Felt like kipchoge”, didn’t think a park run commentary could be entertaining, great work 😂
🤣🤣 Cheers man
"Stop Pushing". "Stop moving sideways then".
Brothers, sisters. Can we all just cool out?
And sit around the campfire!

9:09 - "D.Mills would've slowed to 5' pace, I'm sure" - J.Mills you savage 🤣
🤣🤣🤣 I'm waiting for him to message me after he sees that bit!
Awesome run and really entertaining commentary (Alan Partridge-esque and i mean that as a compliment!) rapid and good luck for Brighton!
🤣😂 Definitely take that as a compliment! Thank you!

Wow, I've never seen a parkrun this competitive before! Crazy how many people were ahead of you!

My regualr route consists of nothing else excepet for tiny cheeky hills! Never out of third gear the whole time!😅

Thanks mate! Yeah, completely agree, there is nothing like the burn of a 5k race!
Well, it depends how fast you're running the half marathon!
My cyclist friend came along for his first Parkrun at Wythenshawe and he found it brutal even though he cycles loads.
Always give 100% in both but the last km of 5km is an all out sprint. It’s pretty much threshold right from the start. Just my experience👍🏻
@goodyeoman4534 a 5km parkrun or race can easily be underestimated but love them regardless. Despise them right after though😆
Great content from J.Mills 🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️🏃🏻♂️

Loved it! Great run!
Thank you!
After watching i went back to the beginning to see the start again. All that fuss and bustle, for the majority to fade out. I know what that fella means though, some people run zig zags and dont even realise theyre doing it

Fair, they do get rather rowdy!
Fantastic video 📹 really exciting, and yes, we love the agony 😅
Thank you - plenty more agony to come!!
This is brilliant 😂 5K is probably the hardest out of any distance for me… I feel like retiring for good every Saturday 😅
I know man, in the final few KMs I feel like I could die at any moment.. few minutes after finishing.. Definitely left a minute on the table there 🤣🤣
Beautiful little run there my old son. I was aiming for a first sub 18:50 pb on Saturday, I was running like a dream until 3.2k and the calf started giving me gip so I had to stop, pissed off was an understatement!
Better luck next time.
Cheers my friend! Ah, unlucky - at least you know the fitness is there to smash it soon!
Blue coat is probably doing heat training.
Here before 100k subs and 99 slayer

A nice relaxed pleasant commentary
“Give the people what they want!” Yes…❤
Always!
Sheesh, there are heaps of people in the main pack on a narrow path... I'd be wanting more space.
That 17:42 would be good enough to win most Park Run events every week!
Haha! I've had some wins from late 19s, so I can't grumble too much!

Good work! Doesn't look like a very fast course to me though 👀. That's a generous description.
🤣🤣 I just love nice tarmac and very limited hills but I've probably over sold it and maybe undersold my current fitness!
@CrownMyRun the narrow paths make me nervous! And those right angled corners. You gonna try Battersea soon?
Also go for a Ciele cap! I've never had any overheating issues and they look great.

Super competitive
I have no idea how people race with a giant phone strapped to their arm….
I’m surprised this is a fast course, lots of sharp turns, hairpin bend and narrow paths in places.
It appears most agree it's not that quick but compared to most I've done id say it's still pretty quick! 2.5KM is essentially a straight line
