@@gbm8432 I’m not saying it’s against the rules. I’m not even saying I’ve never done it. I’m just pointing it out. He had a much easier race then Nick and got that time because of Nick.
I've done 19 flat but can't even imagine maintaining sub 3 mins/km pace for this long and still having such a kick in the low 2:30's. Awesome race and I really liked the commentary and great job to you on giving it your all from gun to tape. Pre would be proud!!!
I’ve got no plans to run a sub 15 5k (or even sub 20) but I can’t tell you how much I enjoy these videos mate, thank you! Looking forward to the next one 🎉
Man that was such a measured race, the last 20 metres, red shirt emptied his tank and I feel you kept some back. I would say that it from being ‘race rusty’. Red shirt looked a proper scrapper, you looked amazing all the way through, you were carved up by the eventual winner, he ‘wanted’ it more. Also, the ginger fella, smooth like chocolate and was prepared to do his own thing. You’ll get there Besty, will improve after each race, don’t be afraid to lose that great form in the dying moments to grab that win. Love your channel, looking forward to more of the same! 😊
Hi Nick! I'm a middle school cross country runner in Texas and I've been started watching your videos for the past few days. Ngl you are a living legend to me. Just seeing you run and doing your best at every race just makes my jaw drop. You truly are an inspiration. Keep up the good work!
Great video Nick - So Close!!! Classic line "...Tricking my brain, if I don't win...." - I'''ll need to remember that the next time I'm vying for 34th position at Parkrun 😂😂
Amazing run Nick, so close at the end but a fantastic time especially in 27C heat. I love hot weather but my running really suffers when the temperature climbs and that day was suited to drinking beer than running! Best wishes for the next race.
Amazing run. That last 100 to 200m was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I myself just did 5km = 17:31 and converted a 10km = 36:53. 1st sub 37min for the 10km Sunday 30-06-2024. It’s crazy. I know you are pushing as hard as you can, but you make it look very easy. I run in my neighborhood and when I push as hard as I can for a couple minutes my fastest pace is still above 4:00 min/km.
been running about 8 months now and just turned 30, i can hold sub 3min per km pace for about 200m then I'm toast, really puts into perspective how fast these guys are running, literally holding my full on sprint pace for 25x as long is an insane effort, gj!
What a race! Congratulations!!! I confess the forth guy did impress me as he kept his pace around 3'00" for solid 2k as a very large guy. Jack's march looks quite high to me. Guy lifts his knee up so much that makes me feel tired for him.
I tell my kids that it isn’t about where you finish (in this sport), but how much better you did. Nick, you’ve always been wanting to run sub 3 pace and that is exactly what you accomplished!
Great race! I’ve noticed that you have a very efficient running style with not much knee lift (probably ideal for marathons) whereas the guy in the red top seemed to have a higher knee lift and was probably able to generate just that bit more power at the end. You were both impressively fast though. Thanks for this video. 👏👏
Hey Nick. I just wanted to say thank you and congratulations. You truly have a gift. You're so inspiring and you're right . We should keep striving and progressing even as it gets hard because our opportunity for greatness would never come. Very fast time. Congrats man. Enjoy this moment and remember they are more to come.
You were right about Jack. He has a kick. He did drop back a little but I think he was conserving energy. I love your positive attitude and love for the sport. You put it all out there. You worked hardest. Jack just had the sprint.
Congratulations, you are a great inspiration to everyone! You show many that training and dedication can do more and that size or weight is just a number!!! And the Evos are wow incredible!
Great filming, excellent run so far (I’m at 2km), thank you for putting up the heart rate, pace, duration and distance - improves the watching 10 fold as I know where you are and can imagine how you feel and the mental state required to keep pressing on.

Insane running champ! Had to watch it twice! Very warm evening and had to lead all the way!. On a cooler night, im sure you would have been even quicker!! 💙💪🏼🤍
Awesome work as always Nick. A quick question if you don't mind. When training to run a particular pace in a race, say 5min/km for a marathon, is it best to do your speed workouts at that goal pace, or at a fast pace, say 4:40/km, with the idea that if you train at a pace faster than your actual goal pace then it will be easier to run at that goal pace in the race? Or is it best to stick to training at your actual goal pace?
Bester, to be fair - that guy who beat you used your body to draft the whole race and he also carries a lot less muscle mass than you. But let me note that he also had better kick form. He really drove his arms and had exaggerated upper body movement, which really activates the posterior chain and allows for strong powerfull strides.
Absolute legend. I have the same mindset yet I'm 51. Pushed hard on my last 5k after not the best lead up. Pushed 191 heart rate 😂 That's to get 21:00 so lots of training for me to reach 20
I think Nick likes running against Dulwich Runners! He often seems to pick the races when it's a big DR turnout like the Parkrun from last place in the spring. Great to see the fight at the sharp end, I've often run in the same races as Jack, but too far back to see the battles.
It probably felt so hard bc you went out fast and everyone drafted off u if you go out fast for the first 100-200 m then settle in then you will end up in 2nd or 3rd and can draft the whole race till u kick and you could win pretty easily and get a pr easier too. That’s what Parker valby did yesterday and she got out kicked
Loved this run and your commentary with it. Really enjoyed it. How the hell do you keep on pushing for 5Km with heart rate constantly above 180bpm ? Fantastic, gutsy race. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

How often do you go for these all out attempts? I find I prefer to pick a race, train for 8-12 weeks and then go out with a solid plan and batter the 2nd half, I'm usually pretty conservative in trainning too so I find I can really put everything into a big race Tactics wise, I think you're more suited to a 5k than I am but I'll share this anyway, my strategy is always to be solid early on and pretty much accelerate as the race goes on, 5k's are tough though since you don't have much time/distance to play with, but the one race I nailed my pacing I went out slowish (3.11) and ended up finishing in 15.34, taking 50 seconds off my time from 6 months earlier and felt like I had more in the tank - the 5k is meant to be what, 90% aerobic though, so I find I'm much better off holding back early on then once I commit to pushing on I can hold it to the finish and pretty much out-kick anyone by accelerating continuously instead of explosively Obviously we're all different and most of the top guys run continuous splits at 5k so it probably works for you, but I find it's interesting to play around with training intensity, racing strategy, mileage etc. And find the most comfortable approach That was a class race though, especially the flippin Sparta mentality, it's pretty insane to be seeing stars at 3k and not even slow down right to the finish
As long as you can walk away from the race knowing you have it your absolute BEST! Then that’s all you can ask for! 🙌🏻

How often do you go for these all out attempts? I find I prefer to pick a race, train for 8-12 weeks and then go out with a solid plan and batter the 2nd half, I'm usually pretty conservative in trainning too so I find I can really put everything into a big race
Tactics wise, I think you're more suited to a 5k than I am but I'll share this anyway, my strategy is always to be solid early on and pretty much accelerate as the race goes on, 5k's are tough though since you don't have much time/distance to play with, but the one race I nailed my pacing I went out slowish (3.11) and ended up finishing in 15.34, taking 50 seconds off my time from 6 months earlier and felt like I had more in the tank - the 5k is meant to be what, 90% aerobic though, so I find I'm much better off holding back early on then once I commit to pushing on I can hold it to the finish and pretty much out-kick anyone by accelerating continuously instead of explosively
Obviously we're all different and most of the top guys run continuous splits at 5k so it probably works for you, but I find it's interesting to play around with training intensity, racing strategy, mileage etc. And find the most comfortable approach
That was a class race though, especially the flippin Sparta mentality, it's pretty insane to be seeing stars at 3k and not even slow down right to the finish
