Ford F-150 Broken Axle Bolt!

  • If you have a 2021+ Ford F-150 with the Max Towing Package, I would periodically check for that broken Axle Bolt. Some users have reported a rattling noise coming from the rear.
The Ford dealer claimed they did "the recall" on it, but I haven't found any official recall, or even an official TSB yet...

One of the F-150 forums has a huge thread on the max tow axle failures. Some folks have lost three axles so far. So sad that Ford has been replacing these axles for 2 years and yet they haven't fixed the design and are still building and selling max tow trucks with the defective axle design. Farley was BSing when he said Ford was going to be concentrating on improving quality.

glad to see posting a new video. I will now look into this axle bold for my 2022 F150. Just had two other (minor) recalls done last week, and the dealer did not mention anything about axle bolts. and yes, a summary from you on your experience with your F150, both good and bad, would be a very interesting video for your followers, including me. after about 20 months and 27,000 miles, I can say i can give my F150 around a B+ grade. Mostly due to all the computer issues, mostly minor, but still annoying. and funny thing was the dealer was not able to "fix" a single electronic/bug problem last week. Even with their "best" electronic wizard technician. And, of course, they blamed all the connectivity issues with Android-Auto on Android..... but dealerships still have a poor reputation for their service. so once I hit the 36K mile warranty end, I will use my excellent local mechanic for things.

Great insight; as I’m looking at the rear axle: for being a fairly new truck. The surface rust is more then I would think. I’m new owner of a XLT 2.7L we tow a Grand Design XLS 22mle.

I had all Toyota trucks before decided to go with my 2021 f150. I now have a lariat supercab, with the max tow. Had the axle bolt broke on me 4 times…. I only had 30k on mine. The 4th time it happened, Ford gave me a brand new rear end. So far so good now. Def not a good experience for a first time ford owner. Not to mention the tons of other recalls like the wind shield wiper motor, the rear emergency brake module, tail gate unintentionally opening, head unit not updating, and all the time I can’t use my truck because it’s sitting at the dealer waiting on parts.

The lack of attention in putting the truck back together is all too common at Ford service centers. I have a truck under recall for this issue. This is the fourth recall issue in a year. I thought quality was job one at Ford.

I had my 2021 F150 Powerboost in nine months after experiencing this issue and thought it was repaired. However, my truck had been at Ford for ten days now for the same rear axle bolt. I was told the first repair wss only replacing the same bolt as they didn’t have it figured out at that time. This recall item is supposed to be the actual repair explained in this video. Hope that helps? Very frustrating but if you hear a clicking noise and there’s no nail in the tire, that’s a dead giveaway it’s happening.

I don't have confirmation either way yet, but the forums do seem to trend in the direction of it being the same bolt and they simply changed the torque specs as they believe the factory was over torquing them.
