Channel Awesome I think Hulk (2003) was as cheesy as it can get
I actually don't think it's that bad of a movie. I see why people wouldn't like it, but, I personally enjoy it. Much better than the 2008 movie...
I actually quite like this movie. No, it's not fun (outside of the few action sequences that ARE present, which I enjoy), but I find the ideas too potentially fascinating to really care.
I think people would gravitate to it more if it came out now, what with all the folks clamoring for comic book movies that deviate from formula.
It's um ... good

You stole that from Alex Shaw, didn't you?
Good one.
So a movie about a hero empowered by emotions is filled with characters with no emotion?
Yep. I'm pretty ashamed that I like this movie when I was a kid.
So, Thunderbolt Ross has no emotion when in the entire movie he has been showing it in so many ways along with the other characters?

The way you said "The Hulk" had a bigger arc than all of the characters combined
Honestly, one of the reasons I like this film even despite all the flaws pointed out is that it's the only Hulk film that was willing to try and experiment. No, it doesn't always pay off and it definitely runs too wild with the surreal shit and melodrama, but it's definitely trying to do something mature. Hell, given the advent of more serious, character-driven superhero works like The Dark Knight and even the comic-book style editing of Into the Spider-Verse, you could even call the movie a bit ahead of its time. The Hulk stories have spent a long time exploring psychological trauma and using the Not at All Jolly Green Giant as a metaphor for said trauma, so to see a film that does attempt to pay justice to those themes, even if it doesn't succeed as much as it stumbles, is really admirable to me.
Plus, I'd like to see MCU Hulk try and hammer-toss a 100-ton Abrams tank half a mile into a sand dune.
It wasn’t as bad as this guy made out
while i actually dislike this movie even with its themes of trauma i do enjoy the idea of this movie dealing with said trauma, and i think that more superhero movies should try to experiment a bit more with psychological trauma, and ways to deal with it.
@Kryptoskillet well TO BE FAIR this movie is technically cannon in the MCU. BUT i think the focus of this comment is about how the hulk has lost the essence of exploring psychological trauma.
@@captaincaterpie This movie is not canon to the MCU; _The Incredible Hulk:_ the film made in 2008 with Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, is the one that's canon to the MCU.
@@matthewmuir8884 yes. That's the one that is truly canon but it paid little tributes to the original, even skipping the origin story cuz this movie was made. While not a sequel it's enough to say this is somewhat part of the MCU

The huuuuuulk
In all fairness, Ang Lee isn't a bad idea for a director of a Hulk film. The Green Giant's best stories usually have a focus on either being super destructive or explore Bruce and Hulk's psychological dealings. The best one, imo, the Wprld War Hulk Saga, does both. It has Hulk and Banner sort of fuse into one being in order to survive the planet of Sakaar, and even be joined in one purpose after facing a painful death of someone close: the punishment or death of the Illuminati. It's not that Hulk is angry at this, but that Hulk AND BANNER are BOTH joined in a shared hatred of his former colleagues over that death, and are one in action and thought to wage war; hopefully for one last time.
It's essentially Marvel's first attempt at a true Epic, with how many changes the characters go through, how expansive both Earth and Sakaar are, and from how much Hulk and Banner grew.
I say this because Ang Lee is ideal for the emotional depth of Hulk and may even be best suited if given a producer or helping hand that can assist with an added Horror aspect that really makes Hulk's stories pop. The main issue, to me at least, is that Ang Lee had too little understanding of the characters and didn't do his homework as effectively as when he did Crouching Togdr, Hidden Dragon. Which explains another, seeing as it's the _execution_ of the ideas that screwed this movie over, and not the ideas themselves.
You know it's sad when STAN LEE is the best actor in the movie lol!
I'm pretty sure this wasn't an act. I think he legit saw the film crew for this movie setting up, and tried his best to convince the head of security that it wasn't safe to have the cast and crew anywhere near that facility.
Know what’s sad shehulk

Edward Norton was approached to play Bruce Banner, but turned it down, as, despite being a fan of the Hulk, he didn't like the script. He later accepted the role in "The Incredible Hulk (2008)."
The frog is fake. The crew pumped air into it to make it look like it was breathing.

I’m very 50/50 on this movie. I like the darkness, the effects, the transformations and many other things. But the movie honestly does kind of go on for longer needed. ITSV worked because it's an animated film about *Spider-Man* that fits in, it wouldn't fit if you include comic book words (KAPLAM, KAPOW) in Netflix's Punisher or something, that's why this movie didn't work
@@eldiegoxter7517 A Hulk movie like a comic book certainly could work, it just doesn't work here because the comic style is used in all the wrong ways.
Spiderverse was at least animated so the panels fit better
Jam Usagi well technically for the format to work it has to be antimated right?
@@gracekim25It doesn't need to be a fully animated movie to have an animation-like style. Just look at Detective Pikachu - it has an entire world in the Pokemon style, and it meshes that perfectly with the live-action format. (the Pokemon's models are actually real-life objects too)
Let's say instead of overusing comic book transitions and special effects, the Hulk movie went for the harsh black shadows and powerful action poses that comic books are famous for. That could actually work extremely well as a style, would translate well into a movie format and probably make lighting any CGI models a lot easier.
They made Hulk an absolute beast in this film.
No... That was the 2008 movie.

Because it's buried inside of an otherwise painfully dull slog of a movie. Batman and Robin was an insane train wreck from beginning to end so it was very entertaining. This movie has a couple weird moments (Hulk fighting Giant dogs and Nolte freak out) but besides that it's completely unmemorable.
It all just kind of blends together.
Because Batman and Robin was bad in a "it's so bad, it's almost funny" kind of way.
This movie is bad in a "Oh God, make it stop!!!" kind of way, which makes people not want to remember it. Like, at all.
Watch Ralphthemoviemaker's marvel videos, they're hilarious
I don't think very many people saw this.
16:16 MALCOM where did you get that cool-ass shirt?

28:21 Yeah, kind of like Luke and Darth Vader a bit
Maybe they hired Ang Lee because it sounds like Stan Lee.

TheDreweMaster you don't want to make me Ang Lee, you won't like me when I am Ang Lee.
19:51 You know, when the girlfriend in Green Lantern found out that her boyfriend was a glowing, green superhero, she had....a reaction.

I love Sam Elliot but the steak joke cracked me up
25:10 legend has it hes still falling to this day
That moment when realise they guy who did this film also did Life of Pi,Broken Back Mountain and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
So he should stick with Dramas and less super heros
Tsuki Condor aang lee hated doing this movie atleast he apologized to marvel fans unlike stupid Gordon Chan whom is in denial thinking his crap live action king of fighters movie which he directed is awesome and he tells kof/king of fighters fans to shut up when they tell Gordon Chan his crappy king of fighters live action movie movie sucked! Gordon is a douche bag.
Tsuki Condor yeah that's like having Adam Sandler direct the next Batman movie or Michael bay directing a romantic movie
"here's some people who know how to sell something fun better then this goddamn movie!"
the ad I got was about depression...
Well, by "fun", he probably meant "funner than this movie".

Ah, 2003. A big year for superhero stuff. I remember the TMNT show from then. We watched it quite a bit. Oh yes that was also the year for the first clone wars series! We had fun as kids. The movie wasnt anywhere near as fun as the action figures we had.
23:11 "How dare you wake me up?! I was having the most wonderful dream where I wasn't watching you..."
Yep, that is exactly how my mind would act if I was watching this in my bedroom XD
