One of Apple Vision Pro's best features is it's ability to connect to your Mac and stream it's screen for a massive, high resolution virtual display! But with the built in display deactivated, it made me wonder: why have it at all? Can you use Vision Pro with a headless MacBook for a virtual screen ONLY? Let's see how it works!!

the joke "they're going to remove the screen next time" is becoming a reality...
🤣
With all the power and price of Vision Pro not sure why you even need a Macbook to do it at the first place. Can’t it do it from its own hardware plus wireless keyboard and mouse
Apple simple needs to enable full macOS in a later update to
The Vision Pro 👍 …. But WILL they? ….. don’t count on it 😒
@@yghhhhrffv you're right. I can definitely see real desktops, monitors, laptops and phones being obsolete in the future.
Removing the MacBook’s screen is *courage*
That commercial was hilarious. Good work!
I should’ve run it at the Super Bowl
@@lukemianiBigger than 1 bowl, but not bigger than 2 bowls tho😂
Especially that 🎷
The good ol' Filthy Frank vibes
*Just ask this doctor ... 'Yeahh!'
This video single handedly brought up the price of used screen cracked MacBooks on eBay 😂
Yeah and all you need to get it working is a 3500$ headset 😂 Far better deal then a $50 monitor off Craigslist.
Does no one ever think to just display out usbc-hdmi?
@@Lyrikal757*”NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”*
@@Lyrikal757 Everybody already always does that
@@siddharthrai6326 I sort of meant in the context of this portable MacBook no display. It’s still useful with the $50 monitor
this is the true privacy screen office environments have been seeking.
😂😂
Tim Cook is watching this video closely. Let‘s wait for the Mac Nano - half size of a Mac Mini to connect with AVP.
At this point just put an m3 Chip into a smartphone and let the smartphone be the MacBook
Mac mini with built in Keyboard and trackpad would be dope ngl
Pocket Mac.
Not a good idea. It's too many steps
@@IFrancyISantosIbatteries aint there quite yet
It's a great idea, then you could get a top case to cover/protect the keyboard. Then maybe put a screen on that part too so you can use it without having to put the headset on all the time.
innovation.
Genius xD
You could also use a laptop sleeve!
Lmao
bro did not get the joke@@lukemiani
I wouldn’t do it to a perfectly functional MacBook, but this is the perfect application for an eBay parts computer with a cracked screen.
Why go cheap after buying the 1 billion dollar headset lol
You can also use the MacBook's battery as a battery pack for vision pro. Plug the MacBook to the wall, plug the AVP to the MacBook.
I just love the commercial. make it as a youtube short. this is viral material. even for instagram
It's funny to think that headless laptops are the closest we have modern Apple II-like "Home Computers".
Computer, io, keyboard. Plug in to any TV and go.
uh, mac mini?
@@jamawl66 The Mac Mini doesn't feature a built in keyboard like the old Apple IIs did.
That's why OP explicitly referred to those machines. It's not just the Computer, or computer and IO, but computer IO AND Keyboard.
Someone should make an Apple ][ translucent case/keyboard for Minis, like they do for Amigas
@@MichaelSchiciano true, fair play!
@@jamawl66 Keyboard not built in, otherwise, sure.
Hahaha! The VisionBook Air Max Ultra commercial bit was brilliant
This is actually really clever. Haven't seen anyone else talk or try this. Nice work Luke!!!
What if using Vision Pro for Mac mini, Studio, or Mac Pro as display monitor instead of using external display?
Petition to get that commercial in the Super Bowl 🔥🔥
👇
Cmon you deserve more than one like 😒
Where’s the people?!
This actually kinda is a proof of concept for my idea of a desk setup that just is a desk with a keyboard, mouse, a Mac Studio, speakers, and a Vision Pro. No monitors. Gonna be sick once Vision Pro 2 or whatever can do multiple Mac monitors.
instead of keyboard and mouse just embed the headless macbook into the desk for the combined keyboard and trackpad
@@SpirusFilms Too DIY and fixed for me personally, but would make for a cool UA-cam video. I'd rather a MacBook in a doc or Mac Studio and a separate keyboard and mouse personally.
I was about to say this is a perfect idea for the Mac Studio, I am glad to see someone is already considering it. If I ever go Apple, this might be the way.
Your humor and presence in your videos are what differentiate yours from your colleagues, and why I stick to your videos 🙌 Loved the commercial - so funny
Apple will start making Magic Keyboards with Macs incorporated with trackpads in the future... or making easily detachable MacBook screens
Mac Mini?
you mean the new Magic Keyboard the iPad pros will connect too
I would buy it
They could call it the… Apple-III
@@bb5242 the reason people aren't naming the Mac Mini is because the selling point is the built-in trackpad and keyboard.
With a disclaimer and the whole enchilada, that was awesome advertisement. Lol
@Luke: can you please test the battery life of the macbook without the display?
This is the Pinnacle of Privacy. Literally no one can see what's going on your MacBook's screen and no one can ever fiddle with your MacBook without an external display or the Vision Pro
Had my m1 MacBook Air nicely beheaded the day my Xreal air 2 was out for delivery ready to be used. Upon arrival plugged it into the USBc port and it’s the most amazing experience I had in a long time. With the beam I can make it wireless but mirroring must be turned on before unplugged. Maybe not the Vision Pro, but still awesome.
This was actually one of my thoughts while watching VP connect to macbooks. Because once connected, it kinda sucks that the physical display is useless but you still need the keyboard and trackpad. But if you could remove the physical screen, then no waste.
Honestly really cool and i think would be a good use scenario in like a version 2 or 3 or the regular consumer version down the line. Most ppl dont need a laptop all the time but the few times we do, just to connect to it with a “display” you already use would be cool.
Like if iphones could dock with a headset and offer the same software and fidelity that vision pro does. but then when you wanna use a macbook you just “look” at it and connect.
The commercial is the best skit I’ve seen on UA-cam in a long while. 10/10 would watch again!
This is exactly the first thing I thought to do when I found out the Vision Pro could be used as a virtual display for Macs. I love that you made my idea a reality!
And the laptop isn’t useless if you don’t have a Vision device, you can still use it with a display at your desk if you want. Then when you get a Vision device (hopefully the cheaper Air won’t take too long) you can make the laptop portable again.
Super cool!
Nice video! I was thinking someone must be making this video! You ROCK!
7:46 that's what she said 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂 I'm crying 😂😂😂
I scrolled to comments just to find exactly this one!
😂
The Office
just in case somebody didnt get te joke :D
This is one of my favorite videos you have done even tho I’ll never do any of the things you did in this video and it’s completely useless I enjoyed it and it made me smile keep it up Luke
This reminds me of the Stargate SG-1 episode where Sam and Mitchell are working on Merlin’s device and they become invisible to everyone. The device has a screen that can only be seen on their side. Very cool Luke!
That infomercial was sick 🔥🔥🔥
Bro do more crazy stuff with Vision Pro😂❤❤❤
This is a good idea for the future, I've seen many screen less MacBook Pro Retina with a monitor, but with the time when this get cheaper will be a great option, also, the commercial part was so funny!
I woke up with this video. At first I thought that you have just ruined my morning, but I was so wrong. The ending made my day. 😂
You made a Mackenstein 😂😂. I wonder if engineers at Apple tried this ✌🏼
He’s made a Macenstein before
Well actually that was the iMacenstein years ago
*Can you do 5k or 6k or even 8k resolutions by doing custom resolutions?*
*Does settings it to 4k resolution make it look shaper than the default resolution?*
The resolution of the Vision Pro is close, but not precisely 4k, so even if you can set the macs resolution to anything higher then 4k, you wouldn’t be able to see it. Also you don’t have unlimited amount of bandwidth, even for 1080p, you have to compress the image to stream over Wi-Fi, just like you aren’t watching a native 1080p video on UA-cam, but a highly compressed video.
Ngl the comercial was great 😂
Awesome video. Reminds me of the Commodore 64 from 1982- computer in a keyboard without a screen! Back to the future! It would be amazing to see this form factor in a Mac. Amazing.
Next use a broken iphone
is it cool? yes. is it practical? no. absolutely not. does it maximize privacy? heck yeah!!
Which privacy? Privacy against corporations? Or the privacy against people?
@@arkvsi8142 well, other people can look at your screen while you use a MacBook. but they cannot when you use the MacBook Vision Air Elite Pro Max Epic Bacon 420 Ultra Edition, or whatever he called it in the video.
it isn't privacy "against" anyone. it's privacy from other people. in the coffee shop or on the plane. wherever there are others around.
I mean if you were to use it without detaching the screen, it would just go black as shown in the video at the start. But It's definitely way less clunky without the screen
@@davidddo yeah but the second you take the headset off, the screen comes back to the display. so this is more private.
however, it's enormously disadvantagous because once you do take the headset off, you no longer have a functioning laptop to return to. therefor, not practical.
It is practical. You are halfing the size of the MacBook. Making the whole setup even more portable. Whilst simultaneously removing the ugly black screen that gets in the way of your display.
Apple making a whole ecosystem around screen-less laptops, then re-introduce screens in 2050 as a luxury getaway from VR
omg the b/w mini video at the end had me balling laughing
Now apple is going to release a *keyboard Air* only for vision pro. It's going to be history.
The ad is convincing. I’d buy the VisionBook Air Max Ultra Pro
Loved the awesome idea! And the ad was so funny! 😂 😂
Oh my gosh I loved the "commercial" part. That was too funny. 😂
This was an awesome video Luke! And you’re hilarious (“not the first time that’s been said!”) Super glad to see you uploading more often again.
And maybe you just gave me a great idea for a new use of my old 2016 MacBook Pro with a damaged display…
Pretty sure that the virtual display function only works with MacBook pros from 2018 or newer 😞 but correct me if I’m wrong tho
The humor is absolutely on point Luke. One of the best laughs I’ve had for as long as I can remember. That commercial 😂😂😂 and the “display is massive… not the first time that’s been said” was pretty good too! Keep it up
Steve Woz must be proud.. It's all coming back to loop 🔁 perfectly for his original vision of an Apple PC for the everyday enthusiast!
I knew you were going to do this first thing when you got your Vision Pro since I remember that other headless Mac video you made last year. Hahahaha 😅
Does it work with a mac mini or studio?
No it actually doesn’t
Its only on apple sillicon Laptops
@@Nairod-IndustriesActually it works on Intel MacBooks running Sonoma too.
bro, just use a mac mini instead
No built in battery, trackpad, keyboard and speaker. And the form factor is different.
the commercial was hilarious, and all the details you have put into it was awesome!!
very creative! i love it!
Broke but in a rich way ya know
That's what I currently do with my Quest and headless MacBook!
Man the clip at the end was incredibly hilarious.
What if you use a mac mini instead?
This is stupid but this is the content I subscribed for.
Jokes aside, if Apple did release the iSlab, they would probably make it cost twice as much as a normal macbook and call it a "revolutionary new kind of computing"
Nope
i actually spit my drink out during the "commercial" lmao
It’s kinda mind-boggling how Apple hasn’t seen you value and set you up with free new models every year. You’re very unbiased and will point out mistakes but you’re generally very into their work.
Seems like a mutually beneficial thing. You’re the Apple based UA-camr I’m most proud of by a long shot.
Anyways! Happy new years and when money is looking better I’m gonna join and pay the monthly fee, your content is worth it.
I legit got the MacBook Air after watching your videos.. iPad Pro, iPhone, AirTags, AirPods, etc since. Apple owes you a shoutout at least lol. I wonder how many people bought stuff cause we trust you.
Thanks Luke ☝️
Literally watching this while working from my couch on my pc, connected to my tv, using a wireless keyboard and trackpad combo :)
Love that commercial lol 😂
I think you just showed us the future of the Mac. Totally portable, any size screen, anywhere you go.
@Luke Miani I have two questions. My first question is can you use a remote desktop app to potentially use a remote windows screen next to connecting to your mac screen or maybe even launch multiple remote apps while in vision os, more than one time to get multiple work screens? My second question is does apple vision pro work with any older intel macs or does the mac need to have a m based processor chip to work with the vision pro?
Upload the commercial on its own! That was great!
Love it! Considering doing it! Question #1 - Be great to know how much longer the MacBook's battery lasts, playing video in Vision, without its hardware screen, vs. playing video on its hardware screen. #2 - Wouldn't it be great if you could select higher than MacBook screen resolution? And have a huge virtual screen in Vision be curved around you? Boom!
"you cant crack a screen that isnt there" im sold lol!.
Best... comercial..... EVER!!!! All jokes aside this was a fun idea. If Mac OS was also somehow on the Vision Pro all you would really need is a keyboard and mouse.
dude this is absolutely insane an not worth it in any way, but i love it
its like this keyboard Raspberry Pie but with a trackpad.... and Vision Pro support
Usually I hate advertising but I had to laugh on this one a number of times!
This is hilarious! 😂
8:41 bro has got marketing skills 😂
@LukeMiani Do you need to sign in to the mac to use the VP not sure how that would work. Normally if you want to connect something you usually have to sign in from lock screen?? or can you connect you mac to you VP from the lock screen?? 😊😊 in adition soon I intend to get a Mac Studio perhaps this will replace the fact that I don't have to buy a monitor... Just a thought. 😊😊
would it work on a screenless mac (like a studio or a mini) so you could have Vision Studio or Vision Mini?
This looks really cool! Great job Luke!
Great job my dude. Really doing the fun stuff with the Vision Pro
“Vision Book Air Max… Ultra” 😂
All it needs is a Smart Cover to stop unintended presses in a bag, and it could create a stand for the keyboard.
The ad is so funny 😂 thank you 🙏
The commercial was hilarious
This setup will go hard with the immersed visor when it comes out this year.
How are the thermals? When I used my M1 Air Headless, I had major overheating issues. I was surprised now much it relied on using the lid as a heatsink
5:58 How so you override the password etc #sign in?
can you show iPad ti vision helmet?
Great idea and video.
The fake commercial was hilarious too.
You’re one of the best Luke!
The advertisement at the end 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m actually surprised this hasn’t been considered yet! Consider having a keyboard line that has the computer embedded inside - heck maybe even a mechanical keyboard line. And then, even without the Vision Pro, you could still traditionally connect it to an external display but perhaps in the same vein as the Vision Pro (wireless display) making for an even more minimal office layout! Maybe it could turn into a new off-branch of the Mac Mini line 🤔
so happy that this style of using a macbook headless is making a return again
Sweet! Now all I need is a MacBook Air m2 and a Vision Pro headset :) seriously was a cool concept though. If these ever become affordable might be an option for the many broken screen MacBooks
true innovation, well done!
Can you use spacedesk in order to have a second monitor on vision pro?
That Doctor knows his Stuff, Yeah 😂
I'd want a different form factor. Who's that one guy who does all the kit bash things like the portable PS5? He should do one with a Mac mini, Magic Trackpad, and a nice keyboard plus a decent sized battery.
Bro forgot all about the magic keyboard and magic mouse
Pretty cool. This looks like really great use case for the Vision Pro.
You killed it love the ad for the new vision air ultra max LoL!
That commercial was great. Thank you Luke lol.
I appreciate the feeling of "this is so stupid" and "this is so cool" at the same time
Need this type of videos more
It’s really cool what you did!
Commercial was dope 😂😂😂
