My personal tips for locating salvage. 1. Find a scan with a multiple of 2000 (2000,4000,20000,22000 etc) know any low multiple of 2000 may actually be a bigger part of a 24000 for example. So you may find way more panels when you get close so know the number isn't always accurate to how many panels are truly in the area. 2. Always scan using 50 percent scan until you find a target. As you move toward the target scroll the mouse wheel up to 75 and move up to 99 percent scan. Eventually you will see the actual panels. Line yourself up with a group then scroll back to 50 percent scan. If you aren't close enough yet it will say 100% signal but as you near the panels the signal percent drops to 0% and starts counting up slowly once it gets to 80% you are really really close to the panels and at 90-92% the panels appear. 3. To quickly locate panels enter nav mode and travel in a direction you wish to check and scan to position yourself heading in a safe direction so you don't smash onto asteroids. Now decouple yourself by pressing c key so you continue moving quickly in that direction. Now you can look all around above and below and to the sides and scan while safely moving quickly through the area. Keep checking to see the area you are traveling for is safe an adjust it so you continue traveling safely. As soon as you find a 2000 signature press c key and hold b to exit navigation mode so you slow down. Then rinse and repeat steps 1 and 2 then back to 3 to find yourself more panels. 4. Last tip is to try and position yourself while at a distance viewing the actual panels with above 50% scan.. move into the area in a way so all the panels will be above you or below you so you know in which way you move after you scrap the first few pieces because some of the panels may be too far away to actually see.. so you know what direction to move in to bring the panels into view. So now you know that you scan anything higher than 50% to see individual panels then 50% scan for determining distance from those panels by moving slowly into the 90th percent signal zone which will actually find you the panels right when you expect to see them and then how to move forward until all panels are clear. Hold f and zoom in on a panel to check if you cleaned it yet and also when scraping you can examine pieces far off and see if it is scraped or not yet. This is all you need to know. Good luck!
Man, I have found this gameplay loop really satisfying since I learned about it from you a couple of months ago. Took me a while to understand how the sensors work, but once I did, it has been fun!
Put the Abrade on it, not only is the Abrade more efficient than the trawler, but the fact that the beam is so large make most of its covering surface useless for such a small target. To find panel, take an illicit contract, you will be assign the perfect location for it, just destroy the ship to get rid off of the timer and look at your surrounding, you will find 2 or 3 signal close to it. I have Found that the closer the panel is, the more quickly it scrape. use tractor beam to find de minimum distance. Stack the 16 SCU boxes on the salvage balcony, it will fit nicely. You should make a million/hour approximatly
Love the reclaimer. Will go out into the belt for days not returning to sell until the hopper has been filled at least once. Tried the vulture for a while but all the trips to clear the hold was just too much of a waste of time considering my limited and sometimes erratic game play windows. Reclaimer is my roci.
Panel salvage in the Yela ring. 1 out of every 3-4 signals is panels. I would love someday to have a use for the reclaimer’s drone bay/controls. Maybe salvage scouting drones that can fly out pinging for signals and identifying panel/ship signals. Then have the ability to have a drone focus on a signal to get the panel make up. Maybe salvage drones that can bring panels around the ship to within range/arc if the salvage turrets. For ships maybe these salvage drones can strip weapons and components and bring them to the cargo bay.
The lag you noticed while salvaging those panels is something I noticed too. I mentioned it in global chat and other mentioned having zero issues with apparent lag. Claimed a fresh reclaimer, went back out again and presto, lag gone. I have also noticed that salvage panels are few and far in between around MIC-L1A, I tend to stick to HUR-L3 where panels are fairly abundant. As for scan values, anything divisible by 2000 is a (group of) panel(s). And it appears 2400 is a Hercules platfom (C2/A2/M2). Hercs are fairly uncommon though these days.
Salvaging makes me want data running and/or being able to mark and sell locations to be a thing... Would almost turn panels into a player driven version of cargo contracts, where if you don't want to hunt for panels, you could pay for the location of a good set. Along with bounty hunters being able to sell salvagers the locations of ships theyve soft-deathed.
I do a lot of Vulture panel salvage and it is way harder to find them in the Reclaimer for sure. I tend to take the Vulture unless i have a couple hours to play which makes the large buffer in the Reclaimer worth the hassle.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind if you didn't speed up the video and had the full session at regular speed. I enjoy gameplay videos and podcasts on my second monitor while also salvaging. You could give your thoughts on the state of the game, Reclaimer vs. Vulture, thoughts of a mid-sized salvager and what specs and manufacturer it could be... so many topics you could give your take on while salvaging.
With the hit to salvaging, it's sometimes worth pulling the guns and components off the wreck for that little added profit. The reclaimer having a dedicated cargo hold is decent enough to store items.
Excellent video, thank you again Farrister! Occasionally I get the urge to purchase the Reclaimer since this would truly elevate my panel - to - RMC biz in the Vulture. But every time I get close to pulling the trigger, I think about the game instability and resign myself to the fact that the hour or two it takes to fill the Vulture is about as long as I can count on NOT getting a 30K or some other such madness. I can't imagine how sad if would be to fill the Reclaimer and then have it all go poof! Maybe in a year or two, but for now, the Vulture is about right for me.
It's actually not that bad. If you just make sure to keep your hopper as empty as possible and keep those boxes on grids, your loot will be pretty safe. You can even do as I do and bed log to switch servers or close the game if you feel like you need to "reset". Even if you are hit with a 30k, as long as the ship is "unknown", it'll come back with everything in it, except stuff in the hopper, usually as long as you don't claim it. The only downside is you can't use it for scraping while you wait.
@@amaegith9871 I haven't been playing too much lately, but I have experienced the Replication Layer putting us on a new server and chilling frozen for a few/several minutes while it says server error please wait. Is that not a thing anymore? Are 30k's back to how they used to be?
I have found that if you are TAB scanning, with the Vkey scanner active, you will get little to no scan hits. You have to TAB scan, find the little clouds, then press V to turn on the other scanner, and check the target. Once checked, turn it off, and continue TABing. Not sure if this is a bug, or a feature. I have repeated this many times, as salvage is my main gig.
I heard of Mic L1 for salvaging panels but by far, Grim Hex is the best place for salvaging. Panels are far more abundant there in my experience. Just fly 150 km away from the station and you’ll be ready to start scanning and salvaging.
Hy I usually go to Aron halo start flying 1 way about 300m/s decoupled . Keep pinging and while you decoupled flying same direction you turn the ship to the signals . If you aim at a signal which have 8k+ strength you get capuled and fly towards . I usually find every 2-5 min 1 signal with 8k + Try 😅
I’m a big advocate for finding a ship’s hangar big enough to expand my vultures cargo capacity. Oddly enough the Polaris may be that ship, maybe the Ironclad in the future.
Personally I skip the whole scan and crawl procedure. I fly with NAV scan (set to 0) just to locate the 2000-increment location and book it max speed, I fly through the blue bubble and turn around and spam ping (note: you may have to travel about 3km for the ping to locate them). Going through it spawns the panels immediately. Spamming the ping then gives their exact locations with individual scan bubbles. I then fly directly towards them. TL:DR Look for 2000-increment bubbles, leave scan settings at 0 and fly through the bubbles, turn around and ping. Each panel now has their own bubble for easy tracking.
Because of the ships I like, I’m really into hand salvaging. I just wish they expanded on it so we could sell our stuff and not just fix our ships with it I also wish hand mining had more purpose, to the point of being worth while. These things would really add to exploration
@@Farristeryes and no, while it is more likely to find other people out there if you stay off the beaten trail and go to drop off at reasonable intervals you should be able to mitigate the risk fairly well
My tip would be, take reclaimer, and do the unverified salvage contracts. Hammered is the best for RMC, caterpillar is the worst. Valkyrie is and starferer are decent. I would recommend total crew of 2-4, where 3 is best. Hammerhead cleanup will fetch you few millions, even if you are doing it alone.

Interesting question! 1) Whose account is FLYING the ship? (even though you own it, are they flying it with their own account?) 2) Are you also aboard the ship whilst it's being flown? Most in game crimes are committed by a person, so most of the things they'd get into trouble for would relate to them. But some crimes relate to the ship, so you could get in trouble if you're also aboard at the time of the offence, even if not the pilot (eg parking violations)
