In today's video we will look at one of the craziest video game challenges I've ever seen. Last month, the speedrunner Bubzia collected every single star in Super Mario 64 and beat the game. Nothing too crazy, until you realise that he was blindfolded the entire time.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Are you sure?

Well good 👍 lol
Thank you so much for covering our community and my 120 star run! It was an absolutely crazy journey over the past recent years and to finally say that 120 has been beaten blindfolded is still crazy to think about. For anyone who is interested in more blindfolded speedruns or blindfolded SM64 in general, I have of course still many more projects planned, so stay tuned!
You're an absolute mad lad! Congratulations on your achievement Bubzia, a very impressive feat indeed.
That is some serious shit. Crazy you were able to do this. Congrats man
Absolute legend ! I wouldn't have thought this was possible without seeing this. 11 hrs is crazy dude congratulations!
This is just nuts! Congrats dude!!!
Incredible stuff!
Imagine taking your blindfold off and realize the recording stopped 10 seconds into the run
Great underrated comment xD
I'd kill myself
Happened to me during a stream once and I wasn't even blindfolded
@@BJGvideos hahahaha xD
@@peterpyzer Yeah I did a two hour stream and it turned out I lost internet connection 16 minutes in but because I was watching the game I had no way of knowing.
I like how the blindfolded run still looks 10 times better than me when playing Mario 64.
It's because blindfolded speedrunners are experts in the game and know how to move and navigate. The only 'problem' is the handicap in form of a blindfold.
@@JackoBanon1 Glad you cleared that up for him
Ye some people are built DIFFERENT dude
I never knew I would ever see the day a 100% run in Super Mario 64 would be possible I’m mind blown 🤯 fantastic run
Yeah I mean look at 17:15 that doesn't seem like a trivial way to get up there
Thanks for the shoutout at the end, blindfolded runs are fascinating
Name a more iconic duo
@@Dopeskunk Badabun and lying.
Well, this makes me think back to the time *that one guy* 'beat' Mario 64 blindfolded.
"It was just a joke, fam!"
@Don't Read My Profile Photo Don’t scam people, bot…!!!
Don't doubt his awesome muscle memory! He even knew which way the 1up was going to go!
Well beating it blindfolded is simple when you realise all you need to do is be able to see through your "blindfold" 😂 At least he wasn't eating pizza at the same time.
@@davidjsaul or drinking coke
1:29 “Not only is this possibly the greatest blindfold achievement of all time, but it’s up there with one of the greatest gaming achievements ever in general.”
But have you ever heard of William Mitchell? Don’t get me wrong, this guy is impressive too, but he doesn’t hold a candle to the King!
lmao
Tod Todgers is the real GOAT.
Mitchell can beat Donkey Kong blindfolded. I've seen it. 😜
@@guiltytrain3689 Tod Togers "I dont always speedrun draaagster blindfolded but when I do the audience is blindfolded"

Oh god, collecting the 100 coins for each stage must be so much pain for sure xD
@ I thought the level with all the magic carpets would be.
@ LLL is by far the hardest and when he got it so early on in the final run, we were very optimistic about the run's chances.
Just wearing a blindfold for 8 hours would be terrible.
@@josephwalker1853 the rainbow level is the main reason I never bothered getting 120 stars legit.
@ Hazy maze cave was in the top 5, it's definitely one of the stars with the most route changes because many parts are challenging and the camera in that stage is a nightmare. He actually did get lost there with like 80 coins in the run but recovered his position because he's a fucking genius
11 hours straight? Also an amazing feat of bladder control.
Right? Holy shit.
He actually just passed away from a bladder infection that spread to his brain during the speedrun

@@JackChop ffs no of course not
@@maartenn2217 listen ive always been dumb as hell
I laughed out loud at the guy typing "HEY KARL KOBST" in the chat at 17:48. I suspect it was Todd Togers.
It was absolutely Todd "Forever 80's Fashion" Todgers. The legend himself.
I mean, being blindfolded without having an anxiety attack and staying sit for 12 hours without eating or going to the bathroom is already an impressive feat.
Yeah, I'd consider it ok to get up during certain parts of the game.... in the lobby section or whatever you call it after you have died.
He did eat though! Dude had a big bowl of rice and some energy bars which he would periodically snack on throughout the run.
So glad that Karl covered this! The guy's video had a criminally low amount of views for how massive this achievement is. I didn't watch the whole run live, but did so on UA-cam over several nights and was just completely blown away.
SM64 speedruns continue to be a never-ending cycle of "hold my beer. "I can't get enough of these Mario 64 runs. I don't get it. It's mesmerizing
You made me blow on my screen. Well played lol
@@chakijzftw I had no idea until I saw the pfp. Brilliant.
Amazing video with incredible explanations, Bubzia's achievements and hard work are legendary! The work that blindfolded speedrunners put into creating and remembering these strategies, and memorizing backup plans (and backups for your backups), it's mind-blowing
Hi I’m first
did not expect to see you here
Hey Karl, this is a monumental achievement for Bubzia, and truly a milestone in Super Mario 64's history. This is old news now, but it reminds me a lot of when SimpleFlips completed the Green Demon Challenge, in which he collected every star in he game with a lethal one-up mushroom chasing him. I love seeing stuff like this, it never gets old.
Karl: "we have reached peak gaming"
From Soft runners: "Time to make Dark Souls even darker"
My next big project after Breath of the Wild will actually be Dark Souls 3 any% 👀
@@Bubzia Immediately subscribed ! I don't want to miss it
Next souls challenge, turning the TV off and beating the game.
Next Souls challenge: Soulsborne Kiro Ring no hit blindfolded marathon.
Literally about four hours ago I checked this channel because I realized it had been a while since Karl had made a new video.
Thank you, Karl.
He's still recovering from his cheating "scandal" 😉😂
When the world needed him the most. He has returned for us to show amazing speedrun video!
Would love him to return and finish the every perfect dark champions series oh wait that doesnt get a million views what a legend. Been here since 1000 subs. Great job karl act like we dont even exist. Dont even mention Ryan whites untied bc reddit tried 2 cancel u. Spineless.
@@wuldntuliktonoptb6861 Lul, cry me a river.
17:15 glad you inlcuded this jump. It was insane watching it live! Bubzia is such a talented runner
17:47 someone in chat “Hey Karl Kobst”
This run deserves to be watched beginning to end. It took me about a week and a half but I managed to watch it in its entirety. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. This is one of the most amazing feats I have ever witnessed.
Absolute madness. I remember how unforgiving Super Mario 64 was when I was a kid, and that was with me being able to see. Not in a million years, would I ever guess that gamers were willing to attempt to play it completely blind! Major props to Bubzia for taking on such an incredible feat! He deserves the fame for all his hard work!! :D
Wow, this reminds me of that time Todd Rogers got 121 Stars blindfolded. (unrecorded ☹️)
I watched him painstakingly practicing Snowman's Land for hours, this is an absolutely unbelievable achievement
Karl has become one of the only youtubers i watch who gets me excited with an upload
I was there in the chat, and remember seeing Karl there and thinking, "Yep, this'll be his next video". I was nearly as nervous as Bubzia was during BitS, and shared his feeling of happiness and excitement for him after every clutch moment, and especially when he finished it! I'm sure it's gonna be another masterpiece from the most legendary of absolute legends, just like the speedrun was!
Bubzia's runs are just amazing. I mainly know him from watching his Blindfolded runs of Metroid: Zero Mission, which are already insane, but a 3D game like Super Mario 64 with all 120 stars is an incredible achievement and the work and effort put into just performing a single session run is more than remarkable and shows off the true dedication.
Even if you have speedrun a game and you think you know it by heart due to your muscle memory, all of what you thought you mastered to perfection gets instantenous shattered into pieces from the lack of sight.
Simply amazing, Bubzia.
The memory you have to have to do this is beyond anything I would expect a human to be able to do. These people are incredible.
I really enjoy how this gave some background information about what blindfolded gaming is and how it works. I was there for the run, and it was definitely something special. Great video
I've watched that video start to finish over a few days. It's a crazy feat, a testament to his patience, endurance and being able to pay attention to the smallest audio cues.
I was looking for the next Karl Jobst video... and I could not wait for it to finally release. Thank you!
Congrats on 100 videos KARL JOBST YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND
I couldn't believe it when i read the title! Thanks for covering these legendary speedruns!!
I don't believe it. The Punch Out blindfold was crazy enough, but at least with that game you are rooted to the spot and everything is sounds and timing. Sorry for any disrespect, but I don't think I'd be able to believe this without being there in person and inspecting the blindfold etc. Not saying it is fake, but it is just so incredible a youtube video is not enough.
Incredible video! I can't even imagine completing a challenge this huge, but the way you described blindfolded runs was amazing imo, you really explained what it feels like as if you tried yourself! Also, as someone who followed Bubzia since half way through the journey, you really gave me 120 grinding vibes back!
As of Bubzia, he really made history with that run, as he did 4 years ago with the first run! He really has a passion, a dedication and, more than anything, and amazing creativity that ultimately ended up in a ridicolously insane idea being humanly performed!
seeing a runners joy after beating a huge record always makes me so happy. its so insane in the best way possible
"I can't whait to see what the blindfold community does next"
I see what you did there
I was waiting for your video about his achievment! great video, great achievment !
Thank you for coming back, Karl! I really missed your videos
😂
I do too
Awesome video covering Bubzia’s crazy journey towards the 120 star completion! I’m glad to see he is getting the recognition he deserves for all the effort he put in, as well as previous runners through the years. The blindfolded community is one that I hold near and dear to me, so when I see videos covering the topic, I can’t help but to smile. Thank you!
Ever since this happened I've been patiently waiting for you to cover it! Thanks for the great content as always
I've been checking Karl's channel daily and he's finally back! Welcome,King!
Very Nice Karl, you deserve more subs for your incredible work and analyze of fake speedruns of games.
I love blindfolded runs, I wish there were more documentaries and popularity with them. I’m sure many speedrunning enthusiasts also appreciate this content. Thanks for sharing Karl
It's sad that one of the most momentous achievements in speedrunning history is, by most measures, unwatchable. "Do you want to watch someone play Super Mario 64 at the level of an infant? No? What if I told you he played for 11 hours straight?"
The pure amount of memory you must have to hold on to to do this run is insane. Awesome job Bubzia!
My Mother finally beating Zelda: A Link to the Past in 2010 after trying since it came out (1992) is the greatest video gamming achievement ever. IMO.
Back in like 94 or 95 my friend and I finished her save to see how many times she died.... over 500 on the Ice Palace alone. She was stuck there for years at the time.
She was stuck for over 10 years on the Turtle Rock boss, and blew my phone up at like 2am one night ecstatic she finally did it. Then she actually got back into it like she was in the 90s and beat Gannon's Tower and Gannon a year after that.
The only games she played outside of that were with me: Burger Time for the Atari, and Super Bomberman.
My Mother is the greatest gamer ever.
Congrats to your mom on finally beating that game.
👌🏻👏🏼🫡
Would she be willing to play other zelda games?
That is so sweet. GG!
Make her play link between worlds for more torture
I was just wondering where is the new Karl video? Lol. Glad to see ya bro. I love these vids.
took only 4.5 billion years 😎😤
Imagine being the first and only person out of billions of people to be do something that probably won't be done for a very long time. Truly amazing and it's so cool to see their excitement.
Was looking forward to this video ever since Bubzia managed this feat. The guy is an absolute legend, thanks for covering this run and the history of blindfolded SM64.
It's been too long since Karl has called me an absolute legend.I've been waiting for this video since his run. This is such an insane achievement, and was even more insane to follow live. Congrats Bubzia! You know you've made it when you get featured in one of Karl's videos.
Glad you're back!!
Gamer's Law #3: Any sufficiently advanced skill is indistinguishable from cheating.
Oh no game over for me I’m Cheating for going fast on Halo 2 🤣😉
This is the best introduction iv'e heard in a very long while.
I love listening to you Karl
Amazing performance ! Congratulation man ! And amazing video once again Karl, thank you for keeping me updated about the world of speedrunning !
keep up the great work! love your videos!
It’s amazing when all the time, effort, and mental fortitude eventually pays off for such an iconic moment. Even a person like me who doesn’t possess all these qualities can appreciate the sheer tenacity and dedication these players have
I loved watching the vod for this, it took me a couple days to watch it, and the idea that he did this all in one shot is crazy. Bubzia is so crazy. I love all his blindfolded runs.
Yeah, it was super worth the watch! I managed to see the first couple hours live but then had to catch the rest on replay
Right? A lot of comments make it pretty evident people can’t even watch the stream in one sitting. (I mean nobody is challenging them to either.) but imagine not just doing it, but live with thousands of viewers.
Is fighting Bowser a significant hurdle? Relatively speaking. It seems like it would be but I’m just thinking back.
I could barely even catch those damn rabbits with my eyes open. Let alone closed. JFC
Incredible. Thank you Karl for letting us know about these achievements
Karl is back baby!
The amount of time and skill that put on this type of speedrun is absolutely insane, I can't imagine being blind for almost 12 hours playing a game would be possible.
Another great video. I love how your respect for these achievements is so apparent. Its contagious and has the ability to convince non-gamers that these feats are truly amazing.
I'm so glad I was there to witness this and the previous attempts live. The hype was through the roof when he got to the last star
Yay welcome back Karl 😁
I legitimately never thought this would happen. I remember watching Katun try to route some of those 70-120 stars and it was insane. Bubzia is something special.
Always providing the most interesting, up to date speed running news. In the most informative and concise manner. Thank you, you Legend
The amount and quality of the work you are doing for this community is astonishing, man.
I absolutely love your channel.
bubzia is a legend.
The absolute legend is at it once again.
bubzia what a legend! outstanding achievement! katun as well! awesome video karl!
I was hoping for you to cover it!!!
I'd say that's the biggest gaming achievement there was and will ever be, and he deserves some recognition
I had no idea this was a real category. I just remember Vargskelethor Joel and SimpleFlips doing a blind Mario 64 stream, where one wore the blindfold, and the other gave him instructions.
I was waiting for this video!
So glad you’re back, Karl. Great video as always.
Speedrunners are just so impressive. This community is awesome. What an amazing accomplishment!
Bubzia is a true legend
I remember watching it live, it was surreal how he achieved that.
YES!!! Another Karl Jobst video! 🙏 Was just thinking ‘man I want another vid from him’
Always nice to see blindfolded speedruns. The effort required must be insane and I can always appreciate them.
Another absolute banger!
Thank you for the continued excellent content!
Remember those " greatest player of all time" awards they use to give out to guys like Billy Mitchell? Yah, these blindfolded runners should get those. Eat your heart out, Billy.
This is the most amazing feat I've ever seen in speedrunning. Congratulations Bubzia!!!
These videos always make my lunch break better lol. Thanks
Karl is one of those people we all like to watch while eating
(Been a year but it must be said)
Specifically, eating pizza and sipping Coke
So, that is what a blind playthrough is. Nice to know.
God.. dude just decided to be blind for half a fucking day multiple times and God knows how long in practice. Incredible. I would go insane after like a couple hours most likely less
First off, only about an hour and a half for 70 stars?
Secondly, 120 stars in under 12 hours?
These guys are insane, like my mind were blown twice this video. Also shows just how difficult some of the stars for 120 is compared to 70 stars. Wonder if they'll work on lowering the time on 120.
Kudos to you, blindfolded runners, you guys are the true legends!

I remember not long ago UA-cam recommended me the video of that amazing speedrun and I obviously thought "no way dude, that's not even possible!"
wow! I didn't even knew a 70 star blindfolded speedrun was already a thing, but this one is on another level of crazyness hahaha now I need to watch those 11 hours for sure
Here as early as poss... love your videos!!!
I'd rather eat off a plate with a fresh velvety matt of clean fuzz.

No
Blindfold speed runs are my favorite! Ty for covering!
Not only is this speedrun mentally fatiguing due to the need of concentration at every second, just imagine what it's like to sit and play a game for hours but you can't see anything. Uncertainty makes me very uncomfortable, as with most other people. Imagine not fully knowing what you're doing at all times, I would go insane. This is not just a test of consistency and concentration, it's a test of mental strength
As a blind gamer stuff like this warms my heart.
