85 SPEAKERS, neon lights, and an incredible 13ft 2” height are just some of the incredible features on a giant replica VW bus. Kirk Strawn is the owner of Walter The Bus, a super-sized version of the Volkswagen classic custom-built on the chassis of a 1963 fire truck. Once Kirk and friends discovered the truck in a junk yard, they decided to build the world’s biggest VW bus and Walter, named after the Walter Truck Company that originally built the fire truck, was born. Kirk, of Arizona, told Barcroft Studios: “There’s always a smile whenever anybody sees Walter. You just don’t see something like this driving the road every day.”

Kirk Strawn is THE nicest guy you'll ever meet, and his wife is equally as nice. They have huge parties at their huge warehouse with Walter Bus and 3 other burning man "art crs" or "mutant vehicles". Their parties are my absolute favorite and I love sitting in the driver seat of this big ole Walter Bus. So much fun!
Not a fan of VW buses, but do admire the ingenuity and engineering expertise to execute this final result. Kudos to the entire team for putting their imagination into reality. Well done, gentlemen, well done.
Had it had a VW paint job on it, it would have looked a lot better.

This has what the "Giant VW Beetle" video lacked - the ins and outs of how it was put together. Kinda crude, but a neat concept.

Cool idea but poor execution when you consider end result amazing how the finish job on a vehicle makes or breaks it in my opinion...Its missing canvas roof, side windows, nice paint job and inside (obviously there's space below upper deck) but sure there are reasons why.....Maybe we need Dave Kindig haha
Probably because it's a 'work-in-progress' requiring more funds which means renting it out before it can become really finished!

There are two qualities of the VW bus that I'll bet Walter doesn't have, and thats a good thing. The old T1 busses were so light in front that on a windy day the front end would lift and move you over one way or the other .The other is there was no front end protection. Look down under the dash, you can see the headlight buckets protruding in and realize that there was not much between your feet and legs and what ever you hit. 😱
I'd like to see the audio system in that puppy. 85 speakers, I think I heard in the description. I'm also a big fan of vintage Volkswagens. Very cool piece of rolling artwork you've created.

Так как в Северной Америке подобная возня с машинами достаточно популярное хобби, существует несложная продцедура регистрации плодов этого творчества.
У нас в Канаде надо пройти инспекцию, заплатить 200-800 баксов (в зависимости от типа машины) и можно кататься по дорогам, получив сертификат.
В Америке в каждом штате будут свои ньюансы, но по большому счёту, всюду будет примерно одинаково. Обычно дадут пару недель на регистрацию типа канадского (не знаю сколько там она стоит) и вперёд
@@giladshulkin1443 Я спросил не о самой теоретической возможности пройти сертификацию и регистрацию - это и в России можно сделать. Я о шансах сертифицировать и зарегистрировать данный конкретный экземпляр ! Для передвижения по ДОП и тем более для перевозки людей (а это фактически теперь автобус !) 🚌 нужно соответствовать строгим требованиям безопасности и техническим стандартам ! Думаю , что в США они ещё строже , чем в России.Сомневаюсь, что данная "самоделка" им соответствует(хотя , возможно, работа над ней ещё не завершена ), но в видео - она уже ездит по улицам города !Это законно ? 🚔
@@giladshulkin1443 I didn’t ask about the theoretical possibility of being certified and registered - this can be done in Russia too. I'm talking about the chances to certify and register this particular instance! In order to move around the DOP, and even more so for transporting people (and this is actually a bus now!) 🚌 you must comply with strict safety requirements and technical standards! I think that in the USA they are even stricter than in Russia. I doubt that this “home-made” corresponds to them (although, perhaps, work on it has not yet been completed), but in the video - it already travels through the city streets! Is this legal? 🚔
A Lada Niva's safer than much of the stuff drivable under laws in most U.S. states. Only problem is a Niva can't be imported until it's 25 years old but you can tack weld a pile of steel together with an engine, lights, wheels, and maybe a steering wheel yet still drive it legally.
