something to keep in mind if you are getting an external drive and intend to swap games to and from your internal storage, do not get an external SSD. they degrade much faster than hard drives if you are repeatedly deleting many files from them at once then redownloading them. i'd personally just get an external HDD no matter what, but if you really want an external SSD, only get it if you're not planning on repeatedly swapping games.

Honestly, I'm perfectly happy with my external HDD. Yeah, it may be the slowest option, but it does the job when I want to transfer games. It is still a lot faster than downloading them again and with ISP data caps still a thing in this day and age, it works flawlessly.
A lot of the public is forgetting load times. External SSD CANNOT RUN OPTIMIZED X/S TITLES. It only stores them. you still have to move to internal anytime you wanna play and depending on title will add extra time to your day moving titles back and forth vs the ridiculously expensive yet convenient memory card that runs X/S optimized titles. I’d say do both if you have the money one for old generation. One for new optimized titles.
Personally, I’d never buy an external SSD. They are often overpriced in my opinion. Its way more affordable to buy an external 2.5in, M.2, or NVME enclosure and then buying the drive separately. The enclosures run from $10-50 depending on the type of drive. (2.5in being the cheapest and NVME being the most expensive) You can get a 1TB SSD for roughly $100.
I've also had this same thought. My only question is whether or not a Samsung evo 970 (for instance) would be optimized as well as a dedicated external SSD for this specific use case?
@@bobsander4739 I’ve used both m.2 drives and 2.5in drives quite often in this manner. Never had any issues. I only have a NVME enclosure that I used for cloning so I don’t get to use it enough as an external drive to judge it. Though I assume there wouldn’t be an issue. Only caveats is that you need to format the drive before use which may throw off someone ignorant of that process.

TLC and QLC are the most popular. TLC is faster and QLC is more durable and cheaper. QLC which is the cheaper variant can be found in drives like the intel 660p. Those drive have a small TLC cache, but most of it is the slower QLC. It’s excellent for a boot drive, but would make a poor external drive due to the QLC cache. Once the cache is filled up the drives will slow down substantially to the point that downloading files onto the drive will be slower than a HDD. This only occurs during massive file transfers though. For an OS drive this problem won’t occur as often (especially if you have your downloads folder linked to another drive), but as an external drive it may be more problematic if you are using the drive to transfer let’s say movies from one PC to another.
I bought the samsung T7 500Gb 3.2 usb ssd which is a very very fast drive but it still won't reproduce any X/S optimised games at all, it is only capable of saving the huge size new generation games on it, and simply you can copy them on the internal ssd disc to be able to run them.
I know these videos are old now but after waiting a year to be able to get a ps5 and still not being able too I need to upgrade. I did not consider the series s a good contender. I was hugely mistaken. I have been watching as many of you xbox series s videos I can find. And will be ordering one very soon. I hope to be to find some new ish series s videos
