$400?!? Insane prices...do what you want with your money but wow! I haven't had any regrets with the decision I made last year.
Try living in Australia. The 2TB card is $700 here. It's around $50 less than a Series X at retail price
I think it's ridiculous that the digital exclusive console has LESS storage than the disc one. The S should be the one with more storage, not the X.
Where did you get an 5tb hard-drive seagate hhd drive for your Xbox most I found was 4 tb and that's 119$? I wanna go the hdd route and have more memory with less cost. But im having trouble ifni want seagate or WD black Hdd. ???
@@JackMcSomeone
Same as new Zealand, 2tb is $800 in some stores
To be at least a bit fair, the new model is supposed to have 6.5GBs, compared to the 1.5GBs of the launch model.
I hope they realize how insane they are for making it so expensive and lower the prices but we can only hope
It’s literally the price for cutting edge hardware.. PC NvMe SSD’s cost around the same
@@ARXInfinite they're overcharging it by ~50% definitely way overpriced
@@comradebacon7753 no they aren’t. That is the price of 1TB NVME PCIE 4 SSD
I’d say overpriced a little maybe 10 percent…but not much..the SSD used is just that expensive right now
@@tjwade6350 I'll give them this I'm sure they worked hard on making this and want to make back whatever money they spent to make it but the price is steep nonetheless. That is why I said I hope they lower the price It can cost whatever they want but that will just drive people away the higher it is and those same people will put up with any small inconvenience that you get with a non-proprietary ssd you can even find videos on here of people saying so and doing so
the best thing to do is keep all of the series x/s games stored on the internal drive while the xbox one games are on the external. then you can run any one of them whenever you want, plus you can plug the external drive into an xbox one to play those games as well
So basically just Install optimize games internally and all others on a external? And save hundreds of dollars. X/S on internal others on say a Seagate or other brand.
@@marcusdy1974 exactly
I only have 12 x games rest are one games so I should just get a external hard drive for my xone and 360 and xbox games ?
I use a 1tb sandisk extreme v2 ssd along with a 4tb hdd. I keep all my 360 and xb1 games on the hdd,and use the sandisk ssd to store x/s games that I'm not playing atm but want to quickly transfer back to the internal ssd later.
This has worked great for the past 6months,but more and more I'm outgrowing this process as more and more games are requiring to be on the internal ssd,and honestly it's flat out bad for the internal ssd to keep writing to it so much.
What is frustrating is that there are so many games that do not need to be on the internal ssd from a technical aspect, yet force you to play them from there just for the sake of carrying the X/S logo.take gta san andreas definitive edition and a whole slew of gamepass indie games as examples off the top of my head.
Microsoft really needs to Crack down on this with developers before it becomes a serious problem for the Series Consoles. All the Devs want to market their games as being "Next Gen" without actually adding ANY Next Gen features that warrant being on the internal ssd.
I am actually surprised your other video doesn't have more views, it was a really helpful video on a topic that not many UA-camrs really talk about. I when I first got my series s, I did not realize that next gen games could not be played from an external drive and had to use internal storage and I already had a 1 terabyte drive. But after seeing this video, I was really happy I knew I would not have to spend literally the price of a college class on an external drive for 1 tb of storage.
I bought the 1TB expansion used on Mercari for $150. I have no regrets so far. Most games I play are X/S enhanced so the SSD didn’t make sense to me. I love how you can just jump back into games with the quick resume. I’ll play COD online and when everyone is offline I can easily jump back to the pause menu that I left another game without reloading the whole game again. It truly unlocks the the gen gaming experience for me.
It's crazy $400. I'm not rich by any mean but there was a time I paid $400 for a 128GB SSD for my PC to boot faster. Hopefully, the price will go down around $200-250 for the fast 2TB expansion storage.
I remember Microsoft cards being pricey but these days you get them far more adorable price. These tad pricey to me, surprised Xbox hasn't come out with their own expandable memory storage like they did for both Xbox and Xbox 360
I got my 2TB for sale. It was $279.99
@@Soundtracks92that way to expensive for 2 tb of storage microsoft is scamming you
Thank you, great video that was one of the things I was not sure of in regards to storage and other options. Got me over the line now 😆 will pick up a Xbox series S tomorrow
So pretty much if you don't play the X/S version games you're good to buy any Seagate hard drive but if you do play the X/S version games you're pretty much forced into buying the most expensive drive am I hearing correctly?
Yes only some games from xbox one enhanced for the generation can be played from an hdd
I hope the next generation of consoles will finally give us a decent hard drive out of the gate(like 5tb). I have a 4tb, slow mechanical hdd from my Xbox 1 days, the 1tb internal drive. I still have about 1.5tb free, but. That’s because I bought the crazy expensive 200 dollar expensive card.Being limited by usb slots I decided it was worth it. Just wish memory costs less with out giving up all my old Xbox 1 games and saves
Only thing I regret about buying the Series S is the lack of storage and how expensive it is to add more external storage. You’re better off just saving that $220 and buying the 1tb Series X…..that’s if you’re lucky enough to get it for the retail price $499
That’s my regret but I couldn’t find a series X to save my life
I am going to buy a Series S. For almost the same price, $520, I will have about 1.283 TB available than having 802 GB from Series X at $500, that is 481 GB more for $20. Not only that, Series S games size is about 20 to 60 percent smaller than on Series X, even if Microsoft states that Series S games size is about 30% smaller. Unless you prefer the 4K resolution and want to have digital games stored in a CD that serve as a license key to access the game on the internal or external drive of the console once the system save them (which is where you play the game from), you may consider a Series X. But hey, don't buy the memory right away, wait until next year just in case it will drop the price or Microsoft allow another manufacturer produce their Velocity Bulls!it Architecture memory cards (which is already in the market), it is just that Microsoft is blocking those SSD's with a code.
@Yung Grandma That is the problem when developers get a new toy with higher resources, the use all they can to stand out in the market with visuals, texture rendering, and adding many props and 1000 monkeys jumping and running all over the screen instead of focusing on performance. They want to create triangles inside triangles, as Epic Games emphasizes with its new engine.
I got my series s for 180 and the 1tb Seagate ssd for 100
I agree, I think Microsoft are being greedy, the cost for such a low storage add on is ridiculous. Regardless of how much money you have or don’t have, they should look after their loyal, customers and make it affordable for everyone, corporate greed at its finest, not as if they are struggling.
Loyal customer are just customers we can reply on for our bonuses.hook ‘em & reel them in $$$$$$(business law)
2 Terabytes in the size of a DS game 😭😭🤦🏻♂️ you obv know nothing its cutting edge wait 5 years if you broke boi
@kalebuck3282 it's not cutting edge, same with still using the drift prone mechanical stick modules. PS made it so you could just add a simple gen 4 ssd, no specialized items required, and can be done easily. It is literally a dumb money move because of how many cease orders 3rd parties got for it. IT IS THE SAME WITH CONTROLLERS, CONTROLLER CHEATING WAS NOT AS MUCH OF AN ISSUE AS THEY SAY IT WAS. It was to stop people from buying any controllers with hall effect that weren't paying licensing with part of their profits.
You can get a 8tb external seagate hard drive that cost £154.99 and just keep your games on there and move them to the internal when you want to use them but just a 2tb expansion seagate expansion nvme card is £339.99
Glad I found this video. The 2TB seagate card is like $280 on Amazon now but still felt so expensive for the amount of storage so I’ll probably utilize this solution instead!
You get 2 tb samsung t7 touch cost about $166 for cheaper.
@@RichardLionheart12yea but you need a expansion card in order to play some of the optimized games for a series s or x
It's a convenience rather than a necessity
The 1TB SSD was on sale on Amazon for $129. I got it and loving it!
Great video and excellent sense. You are not alone in thinking that a simple but large capacity external hard drive makes much better sense for most people that the absurdly expensive luxury of the Seagate expansion card storage option. I have subscribed!
Right I have a 4 terabyte gamepass addition for about 2 years and I keep about four games on my Xbox and I transfer 2 room as needed
You should make this video again. With the current state of the market, and external SSD's being at all-time low prices including the "special" Xbox series x memory module it would make it even more interesting to the masses. I think your opinions are on point.
Bought the 2tb one for my best friend. He's been loving the extra space and speed ever since.
I was wondering if you are interested in being my best friend also?
remember me? i used to be ur best friend 13 years ago. lets be besties again
I know SSDs are a little expensive but for Seagate of all brands that's definitely asking for too much.
Agree. Seagate is a shitty brand for SSD. I bought a 2TB hard drive from them that stopped working in about two weeks. Never bought from them again, all my external hard drives are Toshibas or Adata now
@@fanofgodjimindiva2497 same I had an Xbox branded Seagate 2 TB hdd that crapped out after a year I called customer service they just said it's normal for it to die that quickly, meanwhile I had a separate 3 TB western digital from 2015 that is still going strong. I haven't liked Seagate since that experience and really don't trust paying this much for their ssd card
You can get a 1Tb 2000 read and write ssd for around $55 now for the cheaper options. Or you can just get the crucial external 2Tb drive for $130
thanks dude . very helpful. just getting my sons xbox ready for xmas , i was confused on the storage issue
I mean I’d rather just buy the $220 ssd bc it’s the best tech for the series x and I’m a true gamer and consumer and only want the best 😂 all that transferring back and fourth is a drag. Respectfully
Lol fool and his money are easily separated. As long as you give in to their shitty consumer practices nothing will change
Totally worth the convenience, speed, time saved and money
Just ordered the super expensive 2Tb insane price wow. For me sx I mainly bought so I can have as many game pass games on there as possible.
I just bought the 2tb seagate for over 400€ it is totally worth it! And just in case i got a high speed external drive ssd as well. You better be sure! Only flightsim is already sucking up my storage!
How much storage filghtsim used ?
I picked up a 1 TB and have no regrets. Super fast transfer speeds and very convenient. Nevertheless, since Nvme drives are lowering in price, these solutions should become cheaper too. It's too bad that the USB ports are literally usb 3.0 instead of 3.2, because usb Nvme drives cannot remotely run at specified transfer rates.
Can you link the one you got?
@@crypticneon806he most likely got the seagate expansion card
At least ports in back are 3.2 gen 1. You probably meant Type C 3.2 gen 2 but that wouldn't allow you to take full advantage of NVMe speed either because that is limited to 10 Gbps (1250 MB/s). To take full advantage of NVMe gen 3 drives you'd need to use at least Thunderbolt 4.
I remember paying 1000$ for a 1 gig drive many many years ago for our server. I bit the bullet and ordered the 2 terabyte storage. Its not here yet, either is my x box series S yet. I would have purchased the X version but just was not available for the 599 it was around 800$ and I refuse to let people rip me off.
The thing I worried about with a external drive was not the time it takes but I know that digital drives have a set number or rights and then they will not right to the drive anymore and its important to have fill them up so I plan on using the external storage for my games and let the operating system use the internal drive. Hopefully the console will last many years that way.
I am not rich either but I am old (64) and I have worked all my life and still do so if I want something within reason I buy it.
Genuinely helpful, thank you
Dude thank you!!!!!! Fantastic idea!!!
I was so upset when I realized I couldnt use my ext. drive but I'm so glad I found this video
Great video cheers. Just ordered an S and will use a 1TB SSD I have spare for extra storage.
It’s really insane because if you have a series s but want the next gen storage adapter you have to pay like $200 and at that point you might as well just get an series X
Thanks for the "heads up". You just saved me 220 bucks!
That’s what having a job is for to buy the things you want. You can also wait for it to go on sale I don’t want to sit there transferring games back-and-forth. That’s so annoying. and like you said, there are games that you download and you don’t even play them they just sit there. That’s a waste of space and money for that HDD. I play all of my games I even gave them a certain period of time that if I don’t play them within that timeframe, they will get deleted. I just got my 2 TB SSD today. I got mine on sale two days ago. I would definitely say it’s worth it.
It's a good video with a valid point. But a reccomendation on external storage would help.
I 1TB% agree with you 😅
I do exactly the same thing 🤙🏻 SSDs are a complete ripoff lol
I always click on these type of videos with the hopes of hearing about more options for ssds compatible with the series x. Sadly though nothing is ever said. Not even mention of a price drop which is highly unlikely being that those drives are the only ssds that can play series x enhanced games.
There aren’t yet you can only play Xbox one and 360 games from a ssd and hard drives hopefully they make some
They’re $149 now dude
A lot of people are hoping that the next gen consoles have more storage. Like 4-5 tb
But that sad thing is next gen games will be 500gb-1tb in size.
That’s why there is a market for memory cards.
I bought one for $200 and I am happy I did!!
Thanks for the video! I was curious how an expansion drive would work as I recently upgraded to the series S and was gonna get myself a drive for Christmas! Very helpful video and happy holidays!
Great information. Still watching when I can. Thanks for sharing
I still rather have the connivence of the sea gate expansion card just my opinion tbh. I got the series x with a 1Tb expansion card cause I’m a ultimate member I just play all thru there. I gameshare with my girl who’s got a series s. Got her the 2Tb expansion card for Christmas. Idk we save money by only buying one cod every year and sharing. And we got our consoles for pretty much nothing cause of my pro membership at GameStop. So I think just going all in with the expansion card is the way too go if you play big multiplayer games. I would hate having to transferring everything cause games are dropping hot rn. It’s like saying don’t buy a M.2 for your ps5 which you should and I did in ours in the living room and those are the same price if not more 😂
Bought a 2TB expansion card for my Series X. I have 2 8TB external drives hooked up to it from my Xbox One X, but I don’t actually play games off of them anymore…so I might even get rid of them at some point.
Now I’m getting a Series S to use around the house when not in my gaming basement and will definitely not hookup an external to play Xbox games on it.
Did something similar to this with the Xbox One, has a 2tb hard drive with a 500gb Xbox, that was a lot cheaper than a new(er) Xbox One at the time.
I was looking for info and you solved it with the same idea I was confused about. About how it doesn’t work to play games on the exact 5TB drive you have. But now I know that it wasn’t just me saying it that garbage is being sold for so much. I bought my the same drive at Costco for $90!
I do get an average of 800mbps moving speed! Which is awesome
I just bought the WD black 5tb for series s for for 129$. I was a bit bummed when I learned it didn’t do the same as the expansion card, however the transfer speeds are much faster so in the end it was worth it. The PS4 expansion storage you could at least have option for expansion storage and play many many games
how much faster ?
@@unverifiedverified4418 depending on your internet connection it can vary. Mine has been between 5-10 minutes faster
My shit just stopped working last night 😢
@@him37404 R.I.P.
GUYS!!!!! Listen just buy a ssd hard drive and you will have really fast transfer time just transfer whatever game u wanna play it’s a small wait but worth it for me
I wrote this before watching the vid lol
can u play series X/S games on it tho?
Remember that you have the the xbox series s black carbon 1 tb inside but remember you got 802 gb because of the os files
One thousandth like! Trying to figure out what SSD to buy!
Transferring would be much faster if your external is an SSD. You can get 2tb SSD drives for a good price now, and you can use more than one of them if you use a USB hub.
Thank you, bro! It helps me a lot! God bless!
It's necessary on the Xbox series S. Really necessary and if it's digital only. But the expensive SDD doesn't go with me.
I have to use at least SSD to decrease the wait times! HDD would be like going back to the original XBOX One
How long it takes transfer games from SDD to internal?
Wd_black came out with a 1TB internal expansion for X|S for $130, still expensive yes, but SO much cheaper than seagate. WD also has a 512GB one for $95
Can you play the new typa games on them like the X/S ones
@@zonetrapz8488 yes the work just the same as the seagate ones
I can give you an even better example of how these companies rip is off especially seagate. For 400 bucks I’d rather buy a new series X or S and get the 1TB with an extra system as a backup or o a pile have it in another room but why pay 400 plus dollars for a 1TB external drive when I could just buy another system. These companies are crazy.
*Scammers
It comes with less than a TB.
I thinking the same too :D
Saved me buying the expensive Seagates
I've got two 2tb Wd hdd
I'm gonna fill them up
Thanks for reassuring me
I got tired of transfer games so I bought the ssd was best decision I ever made
Hi. Would it be better to buy a series x then or is the new a better ?.. thank you
@@colb7679 what
I couldn't agree with you more. There is also a saying that goes "A fool and his money soon parts". It's called multitasking, go do something else while your game transfers.
Thank you for the information
That drive from Microsoft is a game changer,I got it through payment plan up paid like 40 bucks every two weeks it is worth it
Ridiculous pricing from Seagate and Microsoft.
I got my Xbox series X a day ago with the thought of buying extra storage when I have the money. When I saw the USB ports at the back, I plugged my 6 terrabite Seagate from my One S in while holding my breath and sending prayers to all the heavens and gods of gaming. All 59 games are still there but many now want upgrades, which I have running. Thank you for this video. I will not buy such the drive 👌👏
Can you link your hard drive that you use?
I waited till prime day forced brick and mortar stores to drop the price to $230..so yeah it is worth it
Great video, and i'd rather wait a few minutes more than have to pay bloody 200 or more euros for the xpansion card, i'll pick up an external hdd instead.
I you all don’t know yet most last gen games x/s updated games are playable from an external. From Mcc to most of Ubisoft games.
If you have anything less than a series S or X you need a new xbox. If you have the series S you need a fast ssd to play X/S optimized games off of being majority games now are optimized. If you love your old games probably dead at this point or single player you'll be fine to save a buck getting the much slower hdd drive. Speeds 10x slower you can see the price difference. Ebay has hdds with consoles like 4tb for no additional price.
Ok, my friend figured this out. PNY makes a $40 500gb external ssd. Get it, fomat it on an Xbox one and then on you series s. Guessing it work on Series x as well dont se why not. But it will work and at SSD speeds.
Microsoft should have put 4 tb in the console right from the start
Got the 1 tb fir 150 and I am happy with the purchase . No transferring fit me
Maybe something wrong in Europe? I see it priced at €114 for 1TB, which is a lot, but I've seen comments saying it's $400 or $700... what?
You got one like from me for Big Belly Bob
it really depends on the person though like how many games are you really playing right now cause the only games that am still playing right now is Elden ring , MW2 and Street fighter 6 than later on when MK 1 when that comes out
Eather that or you they still make games Xbox one games they will work on external drive and long on the back of the games says is 4k compatible. Your fine. Glad Xbox has options at least.
I can’t even play my series s because now I can’t afford the new storage expansion
2:51 what game is that right there? It reminds me of "Hunter: the Reckoning" for the Gamecube
Just recently, Microsoft announced the permanent price cut for all Seagate Expansion Cards with the 1TB being $150, 512GB for $100 and the 2TB being $280
Also recently, Western Digital announced THEIR version of the Expansion Card called the C50. The 512GB by WD is $80 whereas the standard 1TB is currently worth $125 as I’m writing this one whereas the original price was $150.
This is why I buy disks whenever possible :)
I have 7 games installed on my XBSS...with about 80GB free. Why do you need more storage?
What games do you have ?
Thank you, this is all I wanted to know...
Do you have the link for the specific external hard drive you're using?
2400 MB/s for 400 USD is a bit much. you can get 2tb m.2 nvme gen 4 drives for 240ish and they have 7000 MB/ write speed. Hopefully we figure out how to clone the required stuff on the internal NVME as a work around.
Heres my take of the whole external hard drive thing. I dont neccesarily want a cheaper way to store games, cheaper is cool but you get what you pay for..I'd rather want a more reliable way that WONT blow up my console, should a problem arise.
Nothings going to happen. That’s just a file transfer…. You can get Samsung 2tb of ssd storage with 6000+ read write for 170 while Xbox sells you 1Tb for 220. Not fair pricing
Yeah, it's a complete rip off and Microsoft and Seagate should be embarassed. Microsoft should be embarassed also by only including 1tb in the first place but I presume they had the expansion already figured out. There is no reason why we couldn't have just used any ssd. The USB 3 ports are more than capable of delivering series x games but Microsoft made it so they couldn't be used. When are people going to realise the grip they have on your throat?
GameStop employee said the exact same thing. I went in to purchase the SSD. She was like hay just go to Amazon
So many people complain about the storage but who will honestly say they don't blow 400 or possibly $800 before the end of the month each month That's a easy save you could easily say $50 every two weeks and have the money in no time because here's some PlayStation and Xbox will do exactly as they've done before and eliminate the PlayStation 4 being CrossGen and all that other stuff like they did with the Xbox x and then people will complain because then it's going to be large updates to reach that 8K and major 4K images that the game is supposed to give that major push so don't you save yourself a headache honestly and go ahead and buy it I went 2tb Because we all know that once these games are canceled out as being cross-gene and next gen to be able to be made for both consoles that price is going to go up and either you're going to be deleting games that are steady getting really great updates or you going to be able to leave them there
Your video’s help so much 👍
This works until games like Call of Duty start to exceed the base storage of the console leaving you stuck in limbo
I hate to say this but the Nintendo switch has a better storage system than the Series X|S consoles and it’s literally just a micro SD card. My switch may be 5 years old at this point but the fact that I have to spend money on an over priced external storage option to play games specifically designed is absolutely ridiculous, for the switch all I have to do is just get a bigger micro sd card and it fixes the problem, even tho the switch only has less than 64gb of available internal storage. Also doesn’t help that 1T of storage isn’t even enough anymore cause of how big games are nowadays
Won’t constantly transferring games back and forth wear out the hard drive faster?
All this swapping backwards and forwards is going to kill your SSD sooner rather than later? There's talk that these internal SSD's are starting to fail, and are not replaceable ?
Both Xbox series consoles should've had USB connectivity to get better speeds
I’m watching this while getting ready to go to Walmart to buy one. The 512gb for $99.
Yeah I transferred all my none X/S games to external and play them from there and avoid updating them if they have an X/S update I would rather have the game playable and not take space for a game that actually needs the space.
Do you think Segate will do 8 or 10TB for playing XS Games or we stuck with only 2TB?
What type of hard drive did you buy? Desperate need of storage right now 😖
Shout out to back 4 blood being an amazing game.
Can you just leave that 5tb external hard drive plugged in to the console without damaging it?
I leave mine on and it works just fine.
my local Target store had it on the wrong spot behind the glass case, I got it for only $25
crazy to believe I know
