I agree with your conclusion on using a Hard Drive as mass storage and transferring when needed! Personally I have a Series S, which only has 512gb internal storage. I ended up getting a 1tb Expansion to store the games that I regularly play, as I play a lot of different Online Games with friends, and the 512gb was just too small to keep them all on. Then I bought an External HDD to store the Series X/S games that aren't on the Internal or Expansion, while also storing my Xbox One and Xbox 360 games to play straight from the drive!

First of all thank you for the video very nice and straight to the point. Good work.
Now talking about prices: the microsoft seagate expansion card has a ridiculus price it cost $250usd for 1tb!!! and a new console costs the same $250usd... so shame msft.... I also think that the best reasonable solution is to buy an external SSD usb 1tb drive for around $70usd or external HDD usb for around $50usd. The only downside of the external usb drive as you say on the video is that some games like forza and the good ones, cannot be played from the usb drive and you have to move them to the internal xbox storage, but in my opinion is the best easy solution $70 SSD 1tb usb drive.
Thank you for the time, effort and again good work!

Here I am 10 months later and I did not even know that you couldn’t run games off the seagate Xbox external HDD on Xbox series S. It’s horrible that your kinda being forced to upgrade to next gen if you want to play good games. And the next gen system has the such low about of space. They knew what they were doing. They basically took the micro transactions aspect of gaming and scaled it to hardware. If you want to play we give you just enough to get you to spend more money to keep playing. Knowing next gen games will take up so much space they should have planned to accommodate properly. But I’m the sucker because I fell for it. Anyhow thank you so much for posting this video. You answered my questions after searching through so many videos.

The tricky thing about transfering files from drive to drive is that you're going to need open space on both the drive and console to swap games around. I think its worth going all out on getting the offical expansion card if you have a large game collection in addition to an external HDD just to make sure you always have space to send a game in one direction or the other, expecially now that we're getting 150+GB games like Jedi Survivor now.

    • @DTS214
      @DTS214 Рік тому

That’s what I was thinking, you kind have to get the official card along with another external to make it work. Although with the new Xbox series S 1tb it won’t be as necessary (I hope) but more of a convenience or “why not anyway” since I think most of us just like to horde games and only play the same few every time lol

Or atleast 360GB is the usable part, insane considering it cant even fit 2 large games, or barely.
But yeah aft er looking many places their stupid expension card is your 1 option, everything else is software locked, because there is 0 reason why a game wouldnt work on a hdd or ssd vs their expension cards.

I talked to Seagate to help troubleshooting and they told me it looks like a card issue and to return it to the seller. We did. Today I bought another one and again it won't work. Won't show up on the Xbox as a storage option. So I'm convinced the issue the whole time is the Xbox.

The hard drives are just way to small. I don’t get why they didn’t go with larger M.2 hard drives. With game sizes these days. 5tb should be the starting storage.
They worked so hard on shrinking everything. That they left the storage capacities back in 2010.

Great video ! Love the info + opinions.
    I have a Xbox One X + 4TB WD Passport HDD....
My internal and external drives are both about 85% full....
    But was looking ahead,
(to when I can afford it),
    lol,
at upgrading to the Xbox Series X with a ....
    2TB WD Black D30 SSD
    - Or -
An 8TB WD Black D10 HDD
....to store and/or play games, on/off of, and just transfer games that can't be played from the external, to the internal HD when I want to play them. Maybe (but most likely NOt) add an expansion card if the prices go way down in the future. Lol.
I'm still waffling on which drive,....price vs size, as well as speed, but I am, Seriously, leaning toward the 8TB D10 and sacrifice the faster speed, for the lower price and the much larger size.
    Not sure though....
    Your thoughts ?......
    Keep up the great work.

So are there some games that won’t work on an external drive

    • @joshkellis6499
      @joshkellis6499 2 роки тому +1

@@lizwemthethwa8713 You can STORE any Xbox game on an external hard drive. Being able to PLAY them is abit different......
With Xbox Series X, you can't play games that are are exclusively for Series X off of an external hard drive. You have to transfer them to the Series X's internal hard drive or to the expansion card to play them.
Some of the Xbox One games that are "Optimized for Series X" , will play from an external hard drive, and some won't.
Only way to tell is try, or look it up on the net.
So in short.....the only way to be able to play ALL of Xbox's games, on a Series X, is off of it's internal hard drive, and/or the VERY EXPENSIVE Xbox Expansion Card(s).
That's why storing games on an external drive, and just transferring the game(s) you want to play to the internal, is the only other option.
It's also cheaper, and you get more storage for your money as well.

It actually seems faster than the One X's HD, + definitely larger and faster than my little passport. 😅 I'm actually really happy with it. I got mine for $180, a good price to me at the time, best I could find......they have the 12TB model, but the extra cost wasn't worth it to me.
I still haven't got the Series X yet, but still plan to. I'm broke n cheap. Lol. I was waiting for the price to drop,.... I'm really surprised it hasn't,....they usually do by now. ???.......+ There aren't as many games out it seems as there usually are for it yet. ???
But when I do get one, I figure I'll get a large SSD card for it as well, if they don't still cost a F'ing fortune.
Just wanted to give my experience + opinion on the WD Black D10 8TB......
Also FYI......I have read + heard of a lot of people saying the WD Black HD stays on + runs all the time and can't be shut off..... That is incorrect......

this is actually insane to see a 150 expansion card. i also cant believe the series s and x only have a 500 gig difference.. these games are gig eaters, and then microsoft is making you spend more money then you need to expand storage. what i think they should do is atleast come with a external hard drive so we can use it when we need.
