can you please do your next series on pants? Where I'm from everyone either wears jeans or leggings and I never really know what kind of pants to wear with different outfits for different occasions other than when Im working. Help!! Also, how to find trousers that are still flattering on petite women without loosing your figure in them.

For me 1950s style is the best example of elegance and feminity. I am quite short and I love high waist cigarette trousers. I think they're very stylish and expose the figure in a subtle way ❤ but I'd like to see a video on that topic too

When you were talking about fur it reminded me of a story. About 40 years ago my grandmother died and left my mother her fox fur. It was the full on 1950s style with the head, feet and tail and glass eyes. It was so creepy that Mum and I couldn’t bear to have it in the house but we couldn’t bring ourselves to throw it out because it was Nana’s. In the end we donated it to a local amateur theatre group, who were thrilled to bits and I have seen it on stage in several period dramas. So it went to a good home in the end and we weren’t freaked out by the way it looked at us anymore.

I appreciate that you're taking a stance against items made from mostly fur -- especially since you tend to avoid political topics. There are certain things that are just faux pas, and real fur coats are one of them.
EDIT: Just to be clear, I did NOT mean to go into the politics behind it. It's great that so many people are conscious about what they wear, but please understand that not everyone wants to always become involved in this kind of debate. Thanks!

    • @ah5721
      @ah5721 5 років тому +71

I disagree. Unpopular opinion.. but , while I don't like animals suffering.. the faux fur/leather is not environmentally friendly. Refining plastics to make faux fur/leather is poluting our planet twice! Once in manufacturing and secondly by discarding after the life of the item is spent . Real leather and fur decomposes going back to earth, unlike plastic faux items . That leather/fur coat if properly taken care of will last for 3 generations. That faux leather/fur will only last 4 -5 years if you are lucky.

Down feather jackets versus poly fiber: The down feather products have animal exploitation issues attached to them, whereas the poly fiber products might have environmental IF the materials do not include recycled goods. Poly fiber materials used in today's jackets, coats, and even sleeping bags have come a long ways in the scale of compaction and weight, with research and development bringing to the consumer market micro fiber materials that are very efficient for heat distribution, heat retention, and breathe ability. You cannot go wrong in shopping around and finding the item that best fits, feels right temperature wise, looks elegant and fabulous. Great presentation, Ms. Bey.

This is literally the advice I need right now. Thank you. I bought a tweed coat last winter and I ab-solutely loved it. And how I know it was a good purchase is that I don't feel bored at the thought of wearing it this winter, normally with a bad purchase I get bored after a season. And it wasn't expensive. But it looks expensive. The only thing I wish is that it were longer, but tweed doesn't really work past knee length.
I guess the next thing to invest in is a mac (I'm thinking, grey, grey/stone).
I think fur coats are for tiny women. If I wear a fur coat I look like Conan the Barbarian 😊.
And that puffer jacket at 8:26 🥰 (love love love).

There are many alternatives to leather, including cotton, linen, rubber, ramie, canvas, and synthetics. Chlorenol (called “Hydrolite” by Avia and “Durabuck” by Nike) is a material that is perforated for breathability and is used in athletic and hiking shoes. It stretches around the foot with the same “give” as leather, provides good support, and is machine-washable.
Leather alternatives can be found just about anywhere you might shop. But some places, such as discount shoe and variety stores, offer larger selections. Designers such as Liz Claiborne, Capezio, Sam & Libby, Steve Madden, and Nike offer an array of nonleather handbags, wallets, and shoes.

I live in the California desert USA and it doesn’t get real cold here , only a few months and so you need a light Trenchcoat, a leather coat, and a mid length wool for chili December nights. And that’s really about it we don’t wear coats very much here it’s always hot. Today was 90° and I’ll probably get to about 60 tonight and this is November....

I agree 100% about the fur. My aunt wears a long length full fur coat, I just dont think it looks flattering at all + the knowledge of what happened to the animal kills any beauty if there was any to begin with.

Thanks so much for addressing the fact that fur is a sensitive topic, this is compassionate and it’s delightful to know that you are aware of what happens in such industries it’s so cruel but because of UA-camrs like you...we might be able to end the animals’ suffering

Anna, next week I am attending a bridal shower for my cousin’s fiancée. Of course I did RSVP and I am going to shop using their bridal registry; but I do not really know her side of the family. I am anticipating some awkward introductions and conversations which I want to navigate with confidence and grace. However, I have never attended a bridal shower so I must know what the ceremony will entail. Thank you, and your community of Elegant Ladies in advance for your assistance!

I knew from the first sight that there is something nice, deep and special in you even you talk about, maybe, just maybe, superficial things in life. Now I like you even more when I know you have conscesness what we do to animals. Thank you for talking about it. It is so necesary in this crazy world. I like your stile, and your words and it is always pleasure to listen to you even I don't search for anything you talk about in life. But listen to your content is so interesting. You are grate speaker. I adore how you talk about elegance. Trough you I figuerd it out that my stile is elegant. I never knew what to call my stile. I called it boring. 😊😊 I'm 40 and from my youth I always liked to look elegant and decent, not sexy. So thank you for that too. 😊 Talk about your expirience in reatreat in silence you have mentioned it somwhere. I send you love from Croatia! ❤

Pimaloft is a great natural material for puffer jackets that are still vegan.
100% Synthetic coats will make you colder because they don’t breathe and therefore one perspires and becomes colder.
I found a $700 vintage camel coat and paid much less on poshmark. It had two tiny worn spots which I fixed with a bonding agent that uses fluff or string from the coat to create a seamless patch. One dry cleaning, maybe a tuck at the waist, and voilá, a beautiful designer coat for less than I would pay for a synthetic at Zara. It’s also environmentally sustainable. I encourage other ladies who are not wealthy to look at shops like Etsy, Poshmark, The Real Real, or, the OUTNET to find great pieces.
