  • Welcome to our review of the Mana Surfboards Ventura Mid which is have been surfing as a 6'8 x 20 3/4 x 2 5/8 - 40L
    The Ventura Mid: Performance mid length/tracker for 2-10ft clean surf. So, so much fun. Can be ridden as a single, twin + 1 or twin (team favourite).
    Traditional tracker outline with modern performance rails and bottom contours. Moderate entry rocker with a lower tail rocker to allow speed and the ability to still surf off the lip.
    Subtle single concave on the entry to spiral vee throughout the entire board, creating speed, drive and perfect hold in any fin configuration on any size wave.
    Comes standard as a pintail but can customise to a swallow.
    In the Ventura Mid I rode some wild fins that Dan provided me to go with the board, and if you order one I recommend you check these out, but I also surfed the T2 by Futures Fins.
    From www.futuresfins.com
    The T2 twin fin features an upright design, allowing for tight turns in the pocket. Built in solid fiberglass construction, the base of the fin remains stiff for maximum drive, while the tip is thinned out, allowing the fin to flex and provide the rider with a responsive feel.
    Template Category | Pivot (tight-turns/loose)
    Construction | Fiberglass

    Good content. The best sort of review. Chat and surf footage.
    Surf shop reviews online, ok but prefer to see reviewed boards surfed.

    This board looks like it performs really well in clean conditions and is perfect for bigger waves. I love how it has the perfect combination of a V bottom and a spiral V out back to maximize performance. Dan sounds like a great shaper too!

    I’ve got to get a mid that turns. Literally been riding single fin mid lengths for twenty years and I love them but I want to turn!!! This thing looks like it will do just that

      Hey Hunter, I’m contemplating a 7’0 single fin mid length but you reckon it won’t pivot enough?

      @TheSurfboardGuide  Рік тому

      Yes, loves to turn!
      Singles have great trim and glide, but even with side bites I’ve never loved how they turn and found a bit clunky…

      @@glengoodwin it will pivot, but it’s a very different feeling. My hat goes off to those that surf single fins really well, but being brought up surfing shortboards/thrusters, a single mid is difficult when you want to surf a little more high performance - where the twin, thruster and quad setups on these boards bring in the best of both worlds. The boards glide, and the pivot and performance you’re used to ✌️

      Hey Hunter, we originally did the Ventura as a Single + 2.
      After testing it as a straight single, single + 2 and a straight twin, we felt it surfed way better, with the most performance, as a twin fin. Custom fin option of a single + 2 is something we do often and is a great way to get the best of both worlds.

    Reminds me a little /lot of my 6'9 Christenson Osprey. Would be keen to have you review one in the future, too!
    I haven't got it out in overhead, heavy stuff, but it sounds like a similar performance to the Mana Ventura
    With the length and volume, it can work in small - but clean - stuff
    Definitely prefers shoulder and above stuff, though. Easy to surf - speed to burn - but also heaps of control. Works well for an average surfer as a "good wave" board

      Osprey sounds good - was just in California and was meant to connect with CC, but our timing was out. Maybe later in the year we’ll check out some more Christensons ✌️

      Yep, thats the idea.
      My personal Ventura is the same dims as Craig's. Ive have great surfs in 1-2ft beachies/points up to 8-10ft roll-ins to big barrels. Can be surfed in junk but prefers cleaner conditions definitely.

    Great looking board Craig. Where would it sit on the mid’s spectrum relative to the Zen Twin. Looks similar to the zen in outline and foam, minus the channels.

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  Рік тому

      Hey, good question as they’re both high performance, but different!
      The Zen primarily wanted bigger and better waves, if you were to have a quiver - you’re grabbing the Zen when it’s 4ft+, but I’m saying that you can still have fun on it in smaller stuff.
      The Ventura likes better waves, not necessarily bigger - though it’ll handle stuff 4-6ft.
      The Ventura didn’t need huge waves, and got going at around waist high - but it did like better and cleaner waves that let the rail cut through the water nicely!
      I hope that makes sense! ✌️

      Thanks Gabriel, the round pin outline was taken from one of our Apex Step-Ups. Narrower than our performance shortboard round tails on the M1V4, MDM1 or Foot Soldier, we found it to be the best balance of hold and release for the Ventura, especially when the conditions are larger or more powerful where you're surfing more off your back foot.
      As for channels, we've done a bunch of them with x4 channels with great feedback. Increased hold and drive, especially in larger surf, was the overall response. Great for the best and biggest days of the winter at home, to JBay, Bells, Indo, or any powerful point break.

    That board looks SIC! Great review and love your show!! The board looks a lot like the Chilly Middy, which I have and like, but don't yet love as its a bit stiff turning. Tried L F8 Pivot, Jordy, and F8 in that order. Gonna try twin plus next and thinking T1 to start. You tried it as twin? Any recommendations? Thank mate!

    • @TheSurfboardGuide
      @TheSurfboardGuide  Рік тому +1

      Hey! They’re all big thrusters, why don’t you go to a medium template, or medium quads?
      I’m guessing your Middy is longer than your shortboards? If so, you can utilize the rail line and go down a fin size without necessarily moving to a twin + to gain maneuverability.

    • @manasurfboards3545
      @manasurfboards3545 Рік тому +2

      Thanks for the kind words Shaun! The Ventura is a lot different to the Chilli Mid Strength.
      While both are great options, the Ventura has a lower rail, narrower tail and a little lower rocker overall, with more of a traditional tracker outline. The fins are placed further forward as a twin or Single + 2. The glide and performance characteristics of the Ventura come form the length, width and bottom contours, not just foam in the rail like other Mids. This keeps the Ventura really sensitive and not overly bulky or boat-ish to surf.
