Our 2017 A4 suddenly quit supplying any heat. Sure enough, it was this heater control valve being stuck open. Fairly cheap replacement from Amazon, the special hose clamp pliers ($8.95) and less than an hour of work to fix. One minor correction to this vid, you are likely to not feel heat on either hose on this valve if the valve is stuck fully shut, as was the case with ours.
Make no mistake, though. Your video was VERY helpful and provided great info. Thanks for putting it out there. I just saw a couple posts where people might write off the valve if both sides were cold.
I have a 2011 Audi A7 C7 with a heating issue. The passenger side blows warm air (though not as hot as it should), while the driver’s side blows cold air, especially at higher speeds. When the car is stationary, the cabin heats up more effectively. Same case for the rear. The coolant level is fine, the system has been flushed recently, and the thermostat is functioning correctly, holding the engine temperature at 90°C. Could this be due to a blend door actuator failure, a partially clogged heater core, or an issue with the HVAC control module? Sometimes messing with the recirculation button temporary fixes it for a few minutes.
2013 Audi a6 premium here, similar issue. Weird thing is, the heat will randomly kick in sometimes. Engine temps are all good and staying good. Didn’t realize the issue as I bought the car in the warmer months and was only using the AC. Hopefully it’s not too expensive! If anyone can think of something that will help, it would be much appreciated!
The pumps look like this but there at the front to the left of the engine next to the oil drain plug. There may even be 2 like in the video hard to say without looking at the car
Hi, I’ve got a 2014 A6 Quattro. Just recently rebuilt the engine, replaced head gaskets, timing, and alternator. New water pump also. My car’s still blowing cold air when I turn on the heat. Any idea of the likely culprit?
@ awesome, thank you. I’ll look into that. I think your video also said something about the sound of trickling water behind the dashboard, I do have that occurring also
I've an Audi A3 8V with the EA211 1.4 engine. It never came with the silica bag in the coolant reservoir. I have noticed that when stationary/in traffic although the car is up to temperature, cooler air begins to blow through the vents. When up to speed(revs increased) the cabin warms again. I have noticed coolant level reduced to halfway between min and max. I have been told it be a heater matrix issue of which i am sceptical as car has never had a little silica bag. I've bought a new SKF waterpump and housing kit as that is my initial diagnosis although I've not seen any trace of the coolant. My question is, this valve you've changed on the A4, this could be potentially the issue, if fitted on my A3. As revs increase, so does the pressure past the valve/plunger forcing coolant beyond that park of the circuit?
Hi you probably have a heater problem Done a good few. try flushing the coolant etc I have a video on a golf same car have a look. Or it could be the 2nd water pump I'll send you some videos to look over might help
@@murphyslaw2020 thank you. Would you know the part number for this second pump on the ea211. I remember vaguely reading of a two stage coolant circuit years ago but now can't find it.
Hi, on my a4 the hot air comes out from the front vent, however the back foot and centre are giving out cold air, this happens if the ac is on or off, please can you help me?
I have an Audi Q2 1.6 diesel 2017, when I turn on the heater with the air circulating from inside the car, the air is somewhat warm, but when I switch to external air conditioning, cold air starts coming in. Even when I set the temperature to 28°C, the air remains cold. Do you think it’s the same problem? Thanks for your reply ❤
Thanks for a good video. But im able to use cold air and get the heating to ”luke-warm” but not near as hot as i want it now during the winter. All hoses are warm.. my valve looks a bit different, it has 4 hoses to it with a metallic cylinder on top of the part? Its a a4 allroad 2015 b8.5 Since in getting just a little but of warm air it might be the valve that siezed?
It could be sized etc or the heater core blocking or the heater core water pump gone if it has one. I have videos about the above on vag cars this might help you out . Get the codes read might so a fault code
@@Fraser365 yeah man! Just losen the heating hoses that goes in to the firewall. Flushed backwards with a regular garden hose for about 10 mins then pushed air with a regular compressed air handle. Works great and getting alot of heat. Even faster than before it stopped working👍🏼. Flew out alot of junk when i used the aircompressor
Do you have any ideas when one side gets warm, and the other stays cold? In my B9 A5 - the passenger side works as expected, but the driver side stays cold? Im thinking a flap issue, what do you think? thanks in advance!
See / hear can you see the motor moving. Could be the heater core iv had a Citroën do something like this only heat on one side. And I've done a good few vw cores . I have video up about them. More likely, the flap motor in your car It's a nightmare, probably have to pull half the car apart.
I have the same problem with my audi a4 b8.5 1.8tfsi 2012 . Wen i plug this out it blows hot air wen i put it back and restart the car it blows cold air and if i pull it out its getting hot again. Did you have a error code wen you use obd. I did have coolant pump fault code 001020.
I've noticed my Aircon and heating have stopped working on my Audi A4. The blower is working but it's the same temperature no matter what you change the temperature at. Could this part cause this issue do you know?
It could one of the flap motors. I'd try hear them moving when changing temp inside the car, looking / testing them would best .but this valve could be a problem have a look and see if the pipes are getting hot etc

The cores can block on the vag cars but it sounds like a flap not working

Are the 2 motors called heater control valves?
Not 100% sure there name . But that's a good shout
Hi, I’ve got a 2014 A6 Quattro. Just recently rebuilt the engine, replaced head gaskets, timing, and alternator. New water pump also. My car’s still blowing cold air when I turn on the heat. Any idea of the likely culprit?
Could be a blocked core. Or the valve in the video. You need to see if the core is getting hot

For that fix at the Audi dealership, they would charge you at least $125 for that 90 sec. fix.
Probably double that and watch this to know how to fit it
