How to Save a Species with an App
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 січ 2021
- Deep in a cloud forest far, far away are the planet’s last remaining Skywalker gibbons. These small members of the apes family were only identified in 2017 (by, you guessed it, a Star Wars fan), but already they’re endangered. ↠Subscribe: ua-cam.com/users/TerraMaterO...
Now, researchers in south-west China have developed an ingenious technique for getting gibbons from different territories to meet and form a partnership - these Skywalkers mate for life. Join us to see how technology can be used as a Force for good to help protect this vanishing species.

The amazing story around the Skywalker gibbons stems from the discovery by a scientist. However, did you know that most new species these days are actually discovered by amateurs? Have a look at Minute Earth's newest video for more: ua-cam.com/video/B5fT_ohCl68/v-deo.html
That's what brought me here! This video is fantastic! Liked and subscribed! Keep up this amazing work! Do you know how they thought of the cell phones? That's so creative!
That mad me cry♥️♥️🐒🐒so sweet.♥️🐒
Please make rope bridges to connect over roads
@@nemosdiary8271 That's a wonderful idea to point out!
This is kinda clever... they made a call on speakers and enhanced the sound to make those monkeys "talk" to each other...
IT WORKED!!
“This jedi gibbon is on the brink of extinction”
*Just like real jedi*
Please see my UA-cam🤝
@@tvm-manducktv8375 ok
The jedi are an invasive species anyway
@@pepesylvia848 .........
When the male gibbon starts to move into the unknown to find the love of his life, I actually cried :')
I don't speak Monke but looking at his speed she must have said that her parents aren't home.
Gibbons don’t speak monkey either, since they are actually apes.
@@incanusolorin2607 You telling me monkey and ape aren't the same thing? I thought it were just different words for the same thing.
@@Zantides Nope. Apes and monkeys are all primates (and, more specifically, dry-nosed primates), but there are key differences between them. For example, monkeys have tails and apes don’t. Apes also have larger brains, longer arms and shortened thumbs. While monkeys walk on top of branches when in the trees, apes move through the trees by swinging below the branches. Examples of apes are chimpanzees, orangoutangs, gorillas and bonobos. Apes (specially chimps and bonobos) are also more closely related to humans than monkeys.
@@incanusolorin2607 They were referencing the "monke" meme.
@@dinodude4039 Oh, now I feel silly 🤦🏻♂️
"New species identified but in the brink of extinction " why am I not surprised
Another proof that we need to start taking better care of our planet and all its creatures!
Just like the Tapanuli orangutan.
Chinese are eating them
@microbe Im pretty sure there's already a lot of species that became extinct before they get discovered by researchers.
Wonder how many species went extinct without us ever identifying them.
"He travels for two hours through uncharted territory". I feel you bro
I AM ROOTING FOR THE TWO GIBBONS 😭😭😭😭😭 ALSO KUDOS TO THE RESEARCHERS ❤❤❤
Yes, Kudos to the researchers, they've done an amazing job! 👏🏽
@@terramater kudos to you guys too! for bringing us the story and the amazing wildlife photography :)

Nice!
Nice, welcome to our channel and thanks for the sub!
When you said “can the researchers find a route with constant cellphone coverage” the video buffered
Rip
Scientists/researchers becoming match makers... Now that's something crazy... But the craziness was fruitful. Awesome!!
A new monkey-dating era 🙉
What a great video. It's pretty ingenious to use cell phones like that so they could communicate in real time.
i wonder how many other species might be helped by using everyday tech... maybe rescuing the occasional snail on a pavement is doing a bit too?
@@alveolate Snail Lives Matter
Totally ingenious, right?!
🐌💕
“ They’re going to become matchmakers”
Probably the only time I approve of it
"Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match!" - the gibbon, probably
May the force be with them...epic
May the force be with them! 🖖🏾
Wow this is actually really clever. It's like one of those "crazy ideas" that someone might not say out loud because it's too crazy.
I love that someone named a gibbon after star wars. Such a cool story, great job
We love that fact too!
The researchers have done a great job!
That forest looks like nothing i have ever seen. Thank for providing such great and amazing content.
It's beautiful, right?!
Thanks for watching our videos, we couldn't run this channel without our community.
They need a small captive breeding and release program to raise the population and mix the gene pool. And while there they could train them to use their own mobile phones and create profiles on dating sites like Plenty of Monkeys
There's a Gibbon Tinder plan on your mind, right?
@@terramater Lol. Cheers for another quality upload
OMG, I had goos bumps at the end of the video. This was so emotional story. Thank you.

Okay why the heck is this the cutest thing ever😭
In my opinion, gibbons is the most melodious mamals on the rainforest.
In my opinion it's a howler monkey, or coyotes.
Their voices do sound kinda soothing for me.
I'm amazed with the commitment the team of scientists has shown. I couldn't imagine of conservationists going this far.
Wonderful work indeed!
may the force be with them

Can I cry at how beautiful this is!
What an amazing video. Congrats to you for bringing this story to our attention, and congrats to these people who spend time and resources to do what others would call a lost cause.
Finally, good job with the title. One of the rare times when a title like this fits perfectly and turns out to be true and not clickbait.
Thanks a lot for your comment, we really appreciate your kind words!
Kudos to producer Eva for the title! :)

Thankyou Terra matter for showcasing the wonderful rays of hope in these uncertain times
What an incredible effort by researchers 💕 👏🤯
This is an awesome display of technology's power for good. (That is awesome as in "awe inspiring", not the colloquial way the word is bantered about.) Win or lose, this species was *most likely* given one more generation on this planet, and that could be the tipping point for such a small number of breeding pairs. I hope the scales tip in their favor, but even if they do not this story put a genuine smile on my face.
Wow things that make us happy. Thnks for the work
That's just mind-blowing!!!
That was a lovely story and it is nice to see man, who has caused most of these problems help to increase the chances for these apes and other animals in danger.
Congrats and thanks for the effort researchers! Also, someone should store DNA samples for future cloning and study.
what an incredible effort, i love it

Their number is lower than wild pandas.Thank you for allowing the world to pay more attention to other endangered species other than pandas.
Because of rampent commercialization and rampent urbanization(destruction on nature),various plants and animal species are facing disapoear. That's why the viruses(SARS and Covid-19) can not survive in the wild and try to host on humanbeings.Because the viruses used to host on wild animals can not find enough hosts anymore.
How human treat Earth, nature and other lives is how we treat ourselved. We are one.🙏🏻

Animalogic brought me here. What a great docu-snippet. I encourage everyone to stop eating beef as it's the most impactful thing to help reduce habitat loss and global warming. Also, dangerous diseases and viruses can be better contained in those ecosystems when they aren't slashed and burned open.

When I clicked I was hoping for a Wookie but, a Skywalker gibbon is cool. How about a spider species called a Sith?
