And we really like telling stories that amaze you! 🤗 Yes, let's hope that the numbat population will grow again and that there's enough habitat left for the cute little marsupials.
I remember seeing a numbat on an ecyclopedia I had as a kid (and still have to this day) and one day at school I picked it as my animal during a guess the animal game. None of my classmates believed the numbat was even a real animal until we googled it.
For several years I worked as a wildlife tech. We used radio collars. I feel it is a burden on the animals. If only we protected enough habitat then we wouldn't need to use burdensome methods on these animals. But this video is inspiring, to see the positive results of the research. I am proud of the researchers and the animals as well.
At times when I feel low on hope, it is reassuring to know that brave souls are working hard on it. The challenge of avoiding mass extinction is daunting, but it's not too late!
They are so endangered because of feral cats. I think there still needs to be a cull despite angry activists. I just think we need to put the lives of native animals infront of those (excuse my language) but those damn ferals.
We have bush across the road. In one year cats & a fox have wiped out all the Bandicoots here. Very hard to catch these feral creatures. Thank you for this. Bush Heritage, Wildlife Conservancy & Wilderness are doing so much for all Australian creatures.
Don’t tell the bleeding hearts, they’ll be crying about euthanizing the cats! It’s irresponsible cat owners who made the mess in the first place. What they want to do? Foster them? Forever homes? The new families will dump them right back where they were as soon as the newness wears off, or the kids move away. Put them to sleep, painless and peaceful.
Took them "a few years" to remove 100 cats what a joke the Australian government is. They care more about importing asians than they do about preserving natural ecosystems that they helped disrupt/destroy.
Leave the scientific stuff to the professionals and the rangers, but there are many people who would like to volunteer to help this endangered animal and others like it by eradicating the feral cats and foxes. A vast untapped resource. Another quality video. Cheers
@@popojojololo How'd that work out? I recall a mass shooting over in England right after their government confiscated damn near every privately owned firearm.
There are plenty of native birds of prey that eat rodents - hawks, eagles, owls, kookaburras etc. All of our feral animals have been introduced or let loose by ignorant & thoughtless white settlers - rabbits, foxes, cats, cane toads, Euopean carp, wild pigs & camels etc. so these animals do what's natural to survive, but cause harm to our precious native populations. It is really human stupidity that is to blame. As a cat lover, & a responsible owner, I have no problem with the erradication of feral cats & think that there needs to be a much more serious quest to get rid of them.
Numbats are really cool but what about the creatures they feed on? One would assume their populations have exploded. Has this greatly impacted the volume of rotting trees? Have other predators seem their numbers grow too? How does this effect the health of the eucalyptus trees?
Unfortunately. Too many invasive species, too relaxed a federal and state governments. Apparently Koalas are nearing extinction now which is honestly shocking; I have fond memories of going bush-walking with my family and posing for pictures with the Koalas who'd sit on the lower branches of trees (respectfully, of course). After bushfires the entire town would scour the burnt wood for any tiny animals, mostly possums, and give them water and release them in some remaining bush. Now of course the state governments have chosen to largely take over that duty though since they're big governments their responses tend to be a lot slower and worse than those of rural communities themselves.
This is why feral cats should be shot on sight, catch and release is an abject failure in policy because it ignores their terribly effective hunting practices. It is highlighted in australia where coyotes do not live, who actively hunt them.
We rescued a cat, but feral must be taken out one way or other. I don't think that many cats can be adopted. It's negligence from human species that cats got introduced to special areas
Never seen a video that talks about eradicating cats get this good a ratio of likes to dislikes 😂😀 Thou it is true the way we are artificially increasing the cat population and let them run free we do unknowingly harm a lot of small mamal and bird species.

@Zoran Milos sad but true
Numbats kind of remind me of a stripey, marsupial version of a squirrel that specializes in eating termites. Neat little critters.

@Damien Paz Cats have single handedly decimated entire ecosystems causing the extinction of hundreds of species of birds, reptiles and mammals.
Are there any natural felines in the wilds of Australia???
People need to stop letting their cats go outside. There also needs to be a cull.
@Damien Paz cats do not differenciate between pest and no-pest animals😂 put a bell around their neck

How many more species will be eradicated before we correct our feral cat mistake? (And will rodents become unmanageable when we do?)
Reintroduce quolls to manage mice. Snakes can help but people find then scary.
