The Sylvanas quote "I can hit a bird in the eye... flying" comes from great movie "The Unforgiven" (1992), starring Clint Eastwood. It's very hard to google that quote, but it's actually mentioned twice in this movie.
I was going to play Warcraft 2 but I can't because my computer said when I put the disc in"warning this game cannot be payed because it is a 16 bit game and you have a 64 bit computer. Try asking the manufacturer if there is a 64 bit copy".
In the french dub of the end campaign clip, Arthas says "succeding you"... And then, as he does the stabby stabby, FROSTMOURNE wispers "let your eyes close..." That is just the right amount of creepy to engage the undead campaign ;7
You are like old Blizzard. You take time with your work, but in a result we get a polished content. I don't even need to watch your video before I click "I like this".
Not really. One of the more memorable quotes from Toy Story is the "I have been chosen" it really would be hard to rationalize the quote "I have been chosen by the big metal hand in the sky" if it didn't come from Toy Story. Because the joke or in this case, the reference wouldn't have made sense without the toy story reference. At best as you'd probably put it, a neat fourth wall break. But the point is, they wouldn't have added that line in, if it likely wasn't because of Toy Story because it's hard to rationalize "The Claw! I Have Been Chosen" and not make the connection to the "Big Metal Hand in the sky" I feel like if it was just a fourth wall break it would probably be something like "AHHHH! Why is there a giant metal hand in the sky! RUN!!!! Oh....wait...." or something to that effect.
Everyone keeps bringing up Toy Story for the "I Have been Chosen, by the big metal hand in the sky!", but I think it also is a poke at the different cursors for the different factions of Warcraft 3, in particular how the Alliance one is a Gauntlet. You also left out the Blood Elf Engineer ("'It'll be up in no time!' Is an official slogan of the blood elf engineer's union, and in no way should be interpreted as the reasonable amount of time required to complete a task") and the Footman Captain ("I should have been a farmer, like my father wanted..." "...Lousy pay, constant danger..." "...Well, at least I get to hobnob with Royalty.")

To me, warcraft 3 voice acting sounds a lot better than W2 voice acting. Probably because I've experienced W3 in my childhood while you experienced W2 in yours.
Yeah, there was a big "back in my day" vibe throughout the whole video. Like the voice lines not being exactly like WC2 make them worse or something wut?
Usually, Spanish dub is inferior to the original language. Literal meanings being used, idiom jokes that get lost in another language, etc. But Warcraft III in Spanish manages not only to be on par, but sometimes to surpass the original. Hats off to the guys who did the localisation, because it is amazing.
Repost according to the covenant of Abelhawk: So, "Russian localization part 3". About the Alliance: SoftClub tried to give dwarves a caucasian accent (well you know - mountain people like the scots) but only gryphon rider has this accent. Dwarf was translated like "Гном"/"Gnome" because from the time of translation of Tolkien we have problem with dwarves and gnomes. "Dragohawk" is just "Hawk". And he also say "Glory to the hight elves" not "the blood elves". But Speall Breaker became cooler because he was translated like "Witcher" (yes after 2015 it is really funny). And some quotes of course: "My sword - plus one dead orc." (Footman) "Not gonna give in my life my gun or my wife. *Laugh*" (Rifleman) "Good, bad... The main thing is who has a gun." (Rifleman) "Who comes with a sword to us, those easier to shoot." (Rifleman) - reference to Alexander Nevskiy "He laughs best who shoots first." (Rifleman) "-You, me and mortar. -That's all what we need to win." (Mortar team) "-Sight 15 tube 120. -Bang bang and missed." (Mortar team) - reference to film "Marriage in Malinovka"/"Свадьба в Малиновке "-Tell me, uncle. it was not for nothing? -Of course not. (Mortar team) - reference to Lermontov's "Borodino"/"Бородино" "-Hey, old man, how it was in Warcraft II? -The sun shone brighter, the sky was bluer and orcs were no match for todays." (Mortar team) "Guess in which ear i hear the buzz." (Gyrocopter) - reference to cartoon "Carlson has returned!"/"Карлсон вернулся!" "I see an unknown flying object." (Gyrocopter) "Crew requires flight attendant." (Gyrocopter) "Scalpel, sponge, magic wand. Oh, alcohol." (Priest) "An autopsy revealed: the patient was asleep." (Priest) "So we heal or let him live? (Priest) "Time cures, but the priest is faster." (Priest) "Whant to make the end of the world? Press the "reset" button." (Sorceress) "I am a born magician. Does anyone disagree?!" (Witcher) "I stole it! Precious! Gollum, Gollum. (Witcher) - reference to "The Lord of the Rings" (is also funny because this voice actor will be the voice of Gollum in "Hobbit") "Stealing spells is vulgar. You need to do everythnig yourself." (Witcher) "*Inhales like a drug* Goood magic. Strong." (Witcher) "That's right: armed and very dangerous." (Hawk) - reference to "Armed and dangerous" "*Sob* Blizzards will make my action figure... posthumously." (Hawk) "We build, you rest. That's the motto of "Union of the elven builders". So rest and don't interrupt my work." (Elf worker) "I hit twice: first on head, later on the coffin lid." (Paladin) "Goblin in armor: canned dragon breakfast." (Paladin) "Good, good! .. The gods are watching favorably. The world is clearing of filth." (Archmage) - reference to Yuri Nikita's "Three from the forest"/"Трое из леса" "The real war will be tomorrow with a hangover." (Mountain king) "As our dear chef says: "Even sobers and people with an ulcer drink at someone else's expense." (Mountain king) - reference to film "The Diamond Arm"/"Бриллиантовая рука" "Wings, legs, tails... The main thing is blood." (Blood mage) - reference to cartoon "Wings, legs and tails"/"Крылья, ноги и хвосты" "Hello, my name is Roy. And i got hooked on magic. It all started a long time ago and at first I didn’t think it would be a problem. Well you know: conjure before the work, cast some spells at lunch and relax a little before bedtime. But later I began to realize that I really could no longer live without magic. And now i don't know what to do." (Blood mage) "I sense...changings in magic of the world of warcraft." (Jaina) "Alright, let's play by your rules. But i will ask questions. So, what was name of Gloin's father? Time runs!" (Muradin) "Well, audience assistance? Calling a friend? Last wish?" (Muradin) "And now the right answer! No, after commercial break." (Muradin) "It's like my nimbus tarnish. Please, look at it." (Uther)
The narration voice in Warcraft 2 is one of my favorite deliveries of any voice lines in any game. I know it's probably bias because of the game's importance in my childhood, but I get a little geeked every time I hear it.
Another testament that W3 is truly an awesome game with so many details packed in. Hope all these get ported over to Reforged too if they are gonna redo the lines.
Arthas still says "there's no need to bow" in russian version. Which is one of the best voice acting in games. They missed 99% of references like from this video, but instead they made their own. For example, orc shaman's quote: "Do orcs dream of electropigs?"
I think Blizzard removed references to Warhammer after TFT (and all subsequent patches to both RoC and TFT) due to copyright issues. This is why they changed Gyro copters, Steam Tanks etc
Holy! I always highly credited translation of Warcraft in my country. It's still up to this day one of the best voice actings we had, but only now I see how many references has been lost in translation... I am quite happy that translators catched some of these at least! Also about Arthas... I didn't know - but some of these lines are still in the Polish version as well. But then again, not every single one of them. This is interesting. Great Job Abelhawk!
"We're currently hovering at a comfortable altitude of 15 feet." Odd. I always imagined the flying units of the WarCraft games to be flying higher than that. But maybe not. Considering archers and axethrowers can hit flying units, maybe they _aren't_ flying all that high above the ground. Would an archer be able to hit something 15 feet in the air? Yes. Hundreds of feet? No.
In russian version Arthas says "there is no need to bow" in both what and pissed quotes and "for my father (the king)" two times in attack which is same as spanish. Maiev in russian says "Illidan is out there somewhere" as yes quote but it's only in russian version. By the way I hate that a lot of quotes in spanish are replaced with the same ones. For example all 3 attack quotes for priest is "fire!".
Any of these exist in french version, but the priest attack quote is also the same at anytime, although it's different from the spanish one, instead of "Fire !", he says "Our curse will cut you off the road !" over and over...
In a Polish version of the game, Arthas and Illidan were voiced by the same person. You'd think that would make one cutscene in particular awkward, but in fact he's so talented that while playing I had absolutely no idea this is the same voice actor. On a side note, I have absolutely no idea why the fenomenal Polish dub of the game, by some considered better than the original, was replaced by a worse dub in the reforged version of the game.
12:40 in the german version we have both lines following each other. The "Succeeding you father" and the "Let your eyes be closed, now that mine are finally open"
Footman in warcraft 3 is supposed to be a more conscript the massea lind of man hence the roudy footmen compared to their predecessors who were more a professinal soldier
While I might be talking out of my posterior orifice here and don't have the original CDs within easy reach to check, I'm pretty sure the "This warhammer cost me 40K" was removed during the transition from ROC to TFT. The timeframe matches the general Blizzard attempts to safeguard themselves from Games Workshop's increasingly aggressive lawyers at the time - like renaming Gyrocopters and Steam Tanks and dialing down the Ancient Egyptian aesthetic for the Crypt Lord and Obsidian Statues/Destroyers compared to the beta model.
You forgot another reference with the Priest's quote "I have been chosen by the big metal hand in the sky!" which is a self-reference to the player's cursor, which is a big metal hand that might look like it's in the sky "choosing" that unit.
The best thing about that, is that this is actually refered in the Lore. In Warcraft II; when they created the Paladins (basically in-game templars) they where champions chosen by their god... anh hence their name: Knigths of the SILVER HAND XDDD It's all a reference to the damm cursor XDDDD
Arthas says "I'm here to help!" a reference to "The scariest words in the English language are 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help,'" due to Arthas eradicating the people he was 'trying to help.'

The Sylvanas quote "I can hit a bird in the eye... flying" comes from great movie "The Unforgiven" (1992), starring Clint Eastwood. It's very hard to google that quote, but it's actually mentioned twice in this movie.
"Mortar Combat" is MIND BLOWING. All this time I thought they were saying, "MOORTAAAAR, COME BACK!"
I was going to play Warcraft 2 but I can't because my computer said when I put the disc in"warning this game cannot be payed because it is a 16 bit game and you have a 64 bit computer. Try asking the manufacturer if there is a 64 bit copy".
I loved the arrogance of the Arch Mage :( his voice made him seem old and tired, and too good to be dealing with the task at hand
Ice frog really enjoyed this voicelines before Dota 1
Your home pillow, clearly a reminder in case you forget where you are
In the french dub of the end campaign clip, Arthas says "succeding you"... And then, as he does the stabby stabby, FROSTMOURNE wispers "let your eyes close..." That is just the right amount of creepy to engage the undead campaign ;7
It's so weird hearing dnd-esque spells, and knowing they'll do something different in warhammer.
"For the End of the World spell, press Control-Alt-Delete."
I think the Blood mage has some dark interested judging by his last line :o
You are like old Blizzard. You take time with your work, but in a result we get a polished content. I don't even need to watch your video before I click "I like this".
Thanks! That's a really flattering compliment!
4:37 is more a forth wall break because the Human Cursor ist a metal hand
You can see it in the video on top of the machine hand, if you look closely.
I Have Been Chosen" and not make the connection to the "Big Metal Hand in the sky"
I feel like if it was just a fourth wall break it would probably be something like "AHHHH! Why is there a giant metal hand in the sky! RUN!!!! Oh....wait...." or something to that effect.
Bit of a stretch, but the Spellbreaker's "Get on with it." line may be a reference to the Monty Python "Get on with it" scene.
Oh my god, for SO LONG I thought the Mortar Team said "Mortar! Come back!"
Imagine, there might be an alternate timeline where instead of JoJo, people comment under every song "Is that a motherfucking Warcraft 3 reference?!"
"Make Lordaeron Great again"
-Garithos
Well, Warcraft 3 will be alive Forever! xD
ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT? *insert John Cena*
@@LEoX8933 iam like the only Person on this Planet who doesn't hates the remake, i mean the campaign is still great and it wasnt that expensive. Still no excuse for less content, i would gave it a 6/10
This didn't age well
Rip
Not the reforged one
I thought that quote, "The only good non-human is a dead non-human," was a Starship Troopers reference.
wow, thank you so much for all your work, you're amazing!
So that's where those sheep quotes are from to unlock the secret mission :)
I played Warcraft 2(not much though) but I guess never clicked on sheep that much
You didn't do a Captain he have good line too:
,,It was better if i am farmer like my father wanted."
thank you so much man for all these amazing videos. My brother and I watched these together !
High quality video, much appreciated.
5:13 Lmao in old Russian VO Sorceress says "You want to end the world? Press the RESET button"
7:27 Russian version says he's going to ram someone. Gyrocopters would be way deadlier if they were able to ram their enemy before dying
Also in Russian version the reference of being chosen by metal hand is a joke line of Acolyte, not of Priest
respect for potato cam in 2019 )) im kidding man it actually fits the war3 )
cool vid, loved the music references
this is nice i wish you reach1 million subs one day
You missed the "I smell magic in the air" it's what I'll say to my dog when he's sniffing the air
Alliance Priest is Raiden from MK lol
10/10
Holy crap you're right! I was thinking why his voice sounded so familiar.
Yup! That's Richard Epcar! :D
@Abelhawk, 10:45 the garithos "the only good nonhuman is a dead non human" sounds more to me like tha starship troopers "the only good bug is a dead bug" but then again they may have been referencing the apes:) reference inception
Yeah, I just gave the older reference the benefit of the doubt. Plus, the ape specifically says "humans" rather than just "the only good X is a dead X."
To me, warcraft 3 voice acting sounds a lot better than W2 voice acting. Probably because I've experienced W3 in my childhood while you experienced W2 in yours.
w3 voice is better for sure
Yeah, there was a big "back in my day" vibe throughout the whole video. Like the voice lines not being exactly like WC2 make them worse or something wut?
Well, the priest really was chosen by the big metal hand in the sky.
Toy Story ( 1995 ) Reference
New Abelhawk video? Instant like.
The blood mage line 'Ahh child's play' its reference of movie of Chucky
Usually, Spanish dub is inferior to the original language. Literal meanings being used, idiom jokes that get lost in another language, etc. But Warcraft III in Spanish manages not only to be on par, but sometimes to surpass the original. Hats off to the guys who did the localisation, because it is amazing.
The same is in Russian one.
Repost according to the covenant of Abelhawk:
So, "Russian localization part 3". About the Alliance:
SoftClub tried to give dwarves a caucasian accent (well you know - mountain people like the scots) but only gryphon rider has this accent.
And some quotes of course:
"My sword - plus one dead orc." (Footman)
"Not gonna give in my life my gun or my wife. *Laugh*" (Rifleman)
"Good, bad... The main thing is who has a gun." (Rifleman)
"Who comes with a sword to us, those easier to shoot." (Rifleman) - reference to Alexander Nevskiy
"He laughs best who shoots first." (Rifleman)
"-You, me and mortar.
-That's all what we need to win." (Mortar team)
"-Sight 15 tube 120.
-Bang bang and missed." (Mortar team) - reference to film "Marriage in Malinovka"/"Свадьба в Малиновке
"-Tell me, uncle. it was not for nothing?
-Of course not. (Mortar team) - reference to Lermontov's "Borodino"/"Бородино"
"-Hey, old man, how it was in Warcraft II?
-The sun shone brighter, the sky was bluer and orcs were no match for todays." (Mortar team)
"Guess in which ear i hear the buzz." (Gyrocopter) - reference to cartoon "Carlson has returned!"/"Карлсон вернулся!"
"I see an unknown flying object." (Gyrocopter)
"Crew requires flight attendant." (Gyrocopter)
"Scalpel, sponge, magic wand. Oh, alcohol." (Priest)
"An autopsy revealed: the patient was asleep." (Priest)
"So we heal or let him live? (Priest)
"Time cures, but the priest is faster." (Priest)
"Whant to make the end of the world? Press the "reset" button." (Sorceress)
"I am a born magician. Does anyone disagree?!" (Witcher)
"I stole it! Precious! Gollum, Gollum. (Witcher) - reference to "The Lord of the Rings" (is also funny because this voice actor will be the voice of Gollum in "Hobbit")
"Stealing spells is vulgar. You need to do everythnig yourself." (Witcher)
"*Inhales like a drug* Goood magic. Strong." (Witcher)
"That's right: armed and very dangerous." (Hawk) - reference to "Armed and dangerous"
"*Sob* Blizzards will make my action figure... posthumously." (Hawk)
"We build, you rest. That's the motto of "Union of the elven builders". So rest and don't interrupt my work." (Elf worker)
"I hit twice: first on head, later on the coffin lid." (Paladin)
"Goblin in armor: canned dragon breakfast." (Paladin)
"Good, good! .. The gods are watching favorably. The world is clearing of filth." (Archmage) - reference to Yuri Nikita's "Three from the forest"/"Трое из леса"
"The real war will be tomorrow with a hangover." (Mountain king)
"As our dear chef says: "Even sobers and people with an ulcer drink at someone else's expense." (Mountain king) - reference to film "The Diamond Arm"/"Бриллиантовая рука"
"Wings, legs, tails... The main thing is blood." (Blood mage) - reference to cartoon "Wings, legs and tails"/"Крылья, ноги и хвосты"
"Hello, my name is Roy. And i got hooked on magic. It all started a long time ago and at first I didn’t think it would be a problem. Well you know: conjure before the work, cast some spells at lunch and relax a little before bedtime. But later I began to realize that I really could no longer live without magic. And now i don't know what to do." (Blood mage)
"I sense...changings in magic of the world of warcraft." (Jaina)
"Alright, let's play by your rules. But i will ask questions. So, what was name of Gloin's father? Time runs!" (Muradin)
"Well, audience assistance? Calling a friend? Last wish?" (Muradin)
"And now the right answer! No, after commercial break." (Muradin)
"It's like my nimbus tarnish. Please, look at it." (Uther)
The narration voice in Warcraft 2 is one of my favorite deliveries of any voice lines in any game. I know it's probably bias because of the game's importance in my childhood, but I get a little geeked every time I hear it.
Also the Dragonhawk Rider from Riegn of Chaos says "You should see me in the expansion pack!"
Another testament that W3 is truly an awesome game with so many details packed in. Hope all these get ported over to Reforged too if they are gonna redo the lines.
This comment aged well
I just noticed the Mountain King and Muradin's portrait are opposing one another.
9:42
11:05
The "Succeeding you, Father" line for me is better than Spanish version.
0:01 "fluffy teddeh"
10:07.
"BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!"
....
"Eh, forget it."
Huh
my warhammer costs 40k
Arthas still says "there's no need to bow" in russian version. Which is one of the best voice acting in games. They missed 99% of references like from this video, but instead they made their own. For example, orc shaman's quote: "Do orcs dream of electropigs?"
The priest's scalpel quote is i guess reference to powerpuff girls into , for the way he says it
Clearly mortar team has failed us Tassadar wait I thought I failed you Aldaris
Good job catching all the references, easter eggs, etc. man! I'm really enjoying the videos.
I think Blizzard removed references to Warhammer after TFT (and all subsequent patches to both RoC and TFT) due to copyright issues. This is why they changed Gyro copters, Steam Tanks etc
they didnt remove the w40k joke until recently though
Interestingly enough, it looks like almost all of the translations have kept the Arthas' voiceline. Even the Czech one :D
"We're currently hovering at a comfortable altitude of 15 feet."
Odd. No.
Wow the Spanish Arthas cinematic was dramatic!
For example all 3 attack quotes for priest is "fire!".
maiev says that not only in russian (german)
@@somebody4399 I mean she says it in the English version as well.
The bit about Arthas is also true for the Polish version.
In the Simpsons, many of the characters are repeat voice actors
Captain Falric and Uther have unique dialogue too...
He should've been a farmer like his father told him.
If the orcs weren't enough
UTHER? UTHER!
12:40 in the german version we have both lines following each other. The "Succeeding you father" and the "Let your eyes be closed, now that mine are finally open"
7:10 or as i like to hear it:'the king pumped from behind"
amazing video!
All this time I thought the mortar team said "for honor and combat"
Thanks for the vid, man. Now I know the funny background about them warcraft lines. My life's complete. 😂
Does anyone know what theme is used at 5:05 ? It sound so epic) I guess it's from Warcraft 2, but I can't find it
Footman in warcraft 3 is supposed to be a more conscript the massea lind of man hence the roudy footmen compared to their predecessors who were more a professinal soldier
Legion Commander in Dota2 which is based on the Knight Model also says a lot of those Never trust an Elf, Tree, wizard etc. when you kill them
While I might be talking out of my posterior orifice here and don't have the original CDs within easy reach to check, I'm pretty sure the "This warhammer cost me 40K" was removed during the transition from ROC to TFT. The timeframe matches the general Blizzard attempts to safeguard themselves from Games Workshop's increasingly aggressive lawyers at the time - like renaming Gyrocopters and Steam Tanks and dialing down the Ancient Egyptian aesthetic for the Crypt Lord and Obsidian Statues/Destroyers compared to the beta model.
great video, ablehawk! keep em comin'
I loveeee these videos! Thanks for the amazing and hilarious insight for the best game ever made!
Wc3 is peak blizzard
I enjoy the videos I watch, but when Abelhawk uploads, I get very happy!
+Liam Edwards "Magic Man" by Heart (1975)
Yes, another Abelhawk video! I can now survive a little longer without any Reforged updates!
In Warcraft II; when they created the Paladins (basically in-game templars) they where champions chosen by their god... anh hence their name: Knigths of the SILVER HAND XDDD
It's all a reference to the damm cursor XDDDD
The line at 12:47 it's like that in italian too. Chiudi gli occhi padre, adesso che i miei sono aperti
Ride the Lightning is a reference to the electric chair, which Metallica in turn references.
When they yell mortar combat I always thought it was “mortar come back” as in they missed their friend and wanted it to come back
Great vid as always Abelhawk!
