In the French version of SC2, the Terran Ghost can say "This cloud won't stop at the border." It is a reference to the Chernobyl incident, when the French governement assured that the cloud stoped at the border. Instead of beign Scottish, the French Hercules is French Canadian (Quebec).
I was about to mention the French Hercules voice lol I have to say, I think the French version does a great job at translating most of the quirks and puns of the units

1:29 YOU TAKE THAT BACK IMMEDIATELY the ghost quote where he says "I know what you're thinking" could also be a double-reference since ghosts are meant to be telepathic (like how human kerrigan says "thinking the same thing" back in sc1)
There was a Diamondback quote from WoL, I remember it from the Great Train Robbery mission. "Not all who wander are lost...some of them are drunk." First half at least is a line from the Riddle of Strider, see Tolkien's LotR.
Ron Popeil was an inventor who used the phrase "But wait, there's more!" when advertising his products. I learnt this after watching Transformers Animated where the character Swindle used the same line, and his overall mannerisms as a businessman (albiet a shady one) were based off of Ron.
I'd love it if you covered the easter eggs in the SCII campaigns. Some of them are more or less easy to find like the toilet on the terran campaign. Others require you not to touch anything at the start of a mission etc. I'd really be interested in a vid that covers em.
Also unused triggers inside the editor would be very interesting to hear about. I heard there is a lot of stuff that was changed/removed. Like Dony Vermilion being a robot. SC2 editor is too complicated for me to check by myself.
Most marines are brainwashed criminals as well. Considering that ghosts are products of brutal training and testing and spectre's seem to be psychopaths, I wouldn't be surprised if alot of the Terran military is just individuals coerced in one way other another to fight
Great video as usual. That battlecruiser line about olives may be a reference to Futurama where Morgan yells at Leela for not having a full compliment of olives on the ship.
Holy crap that's such an obscure catch. I'm not sure the writers were thinking of Futurama when they wrote that line, but if so, what a cool reference.
There are a additional unused voicelines in the game. Some of them are for when infantry units enter and exit bunkers. Others are responses for insufficient energy. There also some lines for abilities that were scrapped or not given to the unit in question such as a raven line for building mine drones (or just placing spider mines, the file name contains spider mine) and a vulture line for cloaking. The vulture also has an insufficient energy line. Interestingly, there is a full set of unused cyclone voicelines from a different voice actor. Unlike other sets which feature a basic subset of lines for when it is mind controlled by infestors, this unit's neural parasite voicelines show that the vehicle is controlled but not the driver. The corsair also has a separate set of voicelines but with different effects for the voices.
Holy moly, I gotta hear those unused Cyclone voicelines. It originally was a remote automated vehicle right, rather than a piloted one? And yeah, the Corsair had no unit or portrait in Wings of Liberty but it did have a full set of voicelines for some reason, and then for some other godforsaken reason those voicelines remained unused when the Corsair was finally added in Legacy of the Void.
"They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind" is a callback to Hosea made by Sir Arthur "Bomber" Harris about the WW2 Luftwaffe bombing of England and the retaliation he would oversee as a RAF commander. This is a bit more fitting a reference given ghosts' ability to bomb opposition.
For the tychus quote, "when in doubt, empty your magazine", could be a reference to the HBO Rome series when during the battle of phillipi episode, Mark Antony, who can't see the battle and tell who is winning, says "when in doubt, attack!"
"That Voodoo that I do," is more likely a reference to "You Do Something to Me" by Frank Sinatra, containing the lyrics "That voodoo that you do so well," though for many people it's better known as being from Blazing Saddles.
Thank you for putting this together. I enjoyed your Starcraft 1 quotes and references videos and really wanted a SC II version. I'd like to see more!~ 😇
Not a quote but the Liberators weapons, the Lexington Rockets and Concord Cannon, are references to the opening battles of the American Revolutionary War. Also, the Battlecruiser says "Take it slow" which I would interpret as a reference to Captain Picard's "Make it so".
The "I see dead people" quote by Ghost was also a Warcraft III references. In addition to the "Reveal Map Cheat", it was used as one of the pissed quotes by Far Seer (Orc Hero), as well as 2 Undead units (Ghoul and Necromancer).
Unleash the hounds dates way back through English and Roman wars where they had to time the wardogs hitting the enemies legs at the same time the slower infantry hit them. The dogs were held a few ranks back and a commander would time everything slamming in at once, the dogs running fast up through the ranks to the front line.
You seem to have missed a reference from a female ghost. The line "It's E.M.P *sigh* What kind of idiot calls it an EMP?" is a reference to a web series called Red VS Blue. Other than that, thanks for another great video Abelhawk! It really shows that you care about StarCraft more than Blizzard, considering that they did not even feature it in the promo art of this year's Blizzcon and there seems to be no new announcements for the series...
RvB really needs more referential love... although I'm curious as to why Seasons 6 onwards appear to have been delisted from the Rooster Teeth channels on UA-cam. Guess they've gotten scared of the SC1 fanatics who abhor the changes of SC2. Not unlike how 343 Industries succumbed on Halo: Infinite after the Halo 5: Guardians debacle.
@@michaelandreipalon359 From what I've seen, they've been stitched together into movies on Rooster Teeth Animation, but some of them seem to be missing. Like season 6 or season 13 part 1. But the rest seems to be there.
I think you completely missed out on the science vessel screaming, 'I'm in a pickle!" when he is attacked, which is an obvious reference to pickle rick.
It was only through this video that I noticed the Raven's controller's HILARIOUS reaction to his vessel getting blown up. I laughed so hard I had to rewind it to hear what was said for those few seconds.
Soo many thanks for making this video! I recall spending much time listening to all the hidden phrases of the SC/WC characters. One of my fav was the terran science vessel - What? Who set all these lab monkeys free?

Great movie Jerry Maguire may be, The LEGO Batman Movie sure has changed how we view that quote. 15:28: Apologies to the French! 23:09: Now that I think about it, the concept is not that far fetched when you think of Star Wars' astromech droids helping out in flying X- and Y-Wings via maintaining repairs, calculating flight vectors, and warning against the enemy. 23:58: At least it's not that memetic lie this time. Won't lie, though SC2 has a bigger referential treasure trove compared to StarCraft I and Warcraft III, it also somehow feels dry and unexciting enough to not feel entertainingly giddy on our expectant reactions. Cases in point, the repeating of certain quotes by units not even themed from them and, by gar, the ones that HAD to explain jokes can be jarring. Regardless, would love to see the Protoss and Zerg takes on these.
26:51 in the Russian dub, it was turned into a reference to the original "Battlecruiser operational" voice line, with the English (but accented) pronunciation and all.
