  • In this video, I detail the steps for installing a front and rear dashcam on an ND Miata, and how to tuck the wires for a clean look! I've used this exact same camera on my own car for the last 2+ years with no issues.
    It does not support smartphone integration but it does with a full suite of features including loop recording, motion detection, g-sensor, one-press lock protection for the current recording loop, and more, all for a very reasonable price. You can find it at this link: amzn.to/3Hmk4qE

    Great video Ian. One thing I appreciate about your videos is how succinct they are. You don't waste a lot of time with fancy openings or cover stuff you don't need to, and as a result I watch the whole thing.

    Great video! Very helpful and straight to the job at hand. I would suggest powering on the camera and testing the system before putting everything back together.

    Awesome. It was surprisingly hard to find someone that would actually remove the pillar cover on video. I always like to see someone else do that before I do to make sure I won't damage a clip by yanking it out. I went a different route and tapped the fuse box, but this was still helpful on my 2022. Thanks!

    This is a great tutorial. Followed it end to end and installation went pretty seamlessly in about an hour. Thanks!

    Excellent video. Helped me a lot. One thing I will add is that at least for the new A119 mini 2 you can easily disconnect the USB cable (type-A side) from the cigarette lighter charger and drop it/feed it through the hole in the dash once the A-pillar is removed and have it come out the other side without peeling back the rubber liner. Also I couldn't get the entire A-pillar trim off on my car, (only got the top bit off) but wasn't a problem

    I was thinking of installing the rear cam on the air dam, good idea?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  2 місяці тому +1

      I think if the camera is small enough, that could work. No reason not to other than it may be more tricky to hide the wire.

  • @janinelumc

    Thanks for this great video. I would feel more comfortable putting a rear camera on the interior on the back windshield instead of outside by the license plate. Any reason why this wouldn't work? Also, any issues with water damage with the camera on the rear exterior?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Рік тому

      I assume you mean facing through the rear windshield, not on the rear windshield itself. Putting it on the rear windshield itself would likely cause issues when putting the top up and down. You could mount it to the windblocker or surrounding area, but this might reduce driver visibility as well as give the camera a smaller viewing window to look through. Bumper mounting ensures there’s no view blocking for the camera or driver and haven’t had any issues with damage. I believe it’s designed to be weatherproof and mounted externally.

    Does this particular dash cam allow you to quickly dismount the camera from the windscreen? I typically use a sun reflector when parked and would fear leaving it against the reflector and windscreen cooking itself when parked.

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  2 роки тому +2

      Yes it does. The camera itself slides onto a flat plastic bracket, and that bracket actually sticks to the windshield. Quick and easy to dismount the camera

      @@DriveMX5 thanks, I'll look into this setup then. I wonder how well the rear camera would handle the weather, though.

    something like this would be nice to have, but i worry that the visible camera creates greater incentive for a bad guy to break in and nab it. and i wouldn't want to remove it/replace it every time i drive the car.

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  2 роки тому

      Nice thing about this camera is that it slides onto the sticky mount, so it is quick disconnect. Thankfully I haven't had issues with someone trying to break-in, but it is a possibility!

    You still liking this dashcam model? The price is very attractive, but I wonder if I will regret not getting one with wifi/app. Have you published or otherwise edited/shared any videos made by the dashcam? If so, what program do you use to edit?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  2 роки тому

      I do! This video was provided by that dashcam: ua-cam.com/video/EmbHWt9OXoQ/v-deo.html
      I just pulled the SD card and at the time I think I was using Davinci Resolve free version on my Dell laptop. I have since upgraded to an iMac with Final Cut Pro and almost exclusively use my GoPro Hero 7 Black for all of my filming needs, especially since I got some ND filters and external mics to improve the audio and visual

  • @ZacharySound

    My only issue witih this install is the worry of how well that 3M tape holds that rear camera under the bumper. Do you have an update on how long its been since you isntalled it and if it has come loose at all?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  7 місяців тому

      @@ZacharySound I had it like that in my car for years and it never came loose. Just make sure the area where you’re taping is completely clean. This particular camera did come with self tapping screws to mount the rear camera

    I'm sorry but I don't seem to find the hole you took the rear Camera wire through around 3:35

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Рік тому +1

      I should have done a better job showing that on camera, my bad! Take a look through the trunk to see light coming through the other side. You might want to use a clothes hanger or flash light or something similar to stick through to find where the hole is at.

    Did you have any long-term issues mounting a camera on the outside ? Debating it right now-- also do you have video of the rear cam mounted by the license plate like you did?

    • @DriveMX5
      @DriveMX5  Рік тому

      I’m sorry for the late reply. I have not had any long-term issues. If you’re wanting to know what the footage from the rear facing camera looks like, the footage from my spin and slide off track (it’s my most recent Short) contains footage from that camera, in the rain

    Great video! A must have feature for these little roadsters (speaking from experience ..unfortunately😑). It's A LOT easier to install a dashcam on units with auto-dimming and homelink integrated mirrors. If you've got one of those, definitely check this out - ua-cam.com/video/ldHWmbteSCU/v-deo.html
