  • Learn how to crochet this very simple yet effective lightweight summer cover-up / shawl. Worked using just double crochet, single crochet and chains (USA Terms) with an easy one row repeat you can keep growing it from the bottom up until it is the size you want! Ideal for beginners.
This looks particularly beautiful in hand dyed lightweight yarns however, you can use any yarn and any hook size you wish 😃
The yarn I am using for my shawl (as shown in thumbnail) is called PRISM and is available from Snufflebean Yarn **** THIS YARN HAS SINCE BEEN DISCONTINUED ****

    🔥 Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you have a left handed version of this video? If you are left handed, you can convert ANY video on UA-cam yourself! Simply go to www.mirrorthevideo.com/ and follow the instructions to mirror flip any video to convert to left handed!
How much yarn will I need? This is a very tricky question to answer as there are so many variables! How much yarn you need will depend on which yarn you choose, the thickness of that yarn, your tension and how large you want your finished project to be. I suggest making a small sample first so you can gauge how much yarn you'll need. If making a crochet square, you can weigh your finished square to work out how much yarn it used!
How many squares do I need for a blanket? That all depends on the size of the square you are making and how big you want your finished blanket to be! I always advise making one square first then measuring the size of it. From there you can work out how many squares you will need to get the blanket size you want 😀
Do you have the written pattern? Yes! I have written patterns to accompany my video tutorials on my website here: www.hookedbyrobin.com The written pattern is generally released a week or so after the video tutorial to ensure there are no errors in the video itself and to make amendments in the written version if any are found. All the written patterns are FREE to access on my website
How can I print the pattern from your website? Do you have downloadable PDF's? Not at this time no. This may change in the future but for now, I only provide the written pattern directly on my website.
Can you remake this video so it is slower? If the video speed is too fast, you can slow it down! 😀 See this video on exactly how: • How to Adjust the Spee...
Why do you use American stitch terminology? I learnt using USA stitch terms, long before I even knew there was a difference between UK & US terminology! American terms are my "first language" so to speak. If you need a conversion chart, I have one here! www.hookedbyrobin.com/crochet...

Is there a finishing stitch for the top of the shawl as well? I was thinking of doing so, but not sure
what stitch to do, any suggestions?

I was wondering about that. too. Trying to imagine what would blend well and be comfortable on the neck?

    • @HookedbyRobin
      @HookedbyRobin  5 років тому +43

I personally will be leaving mine raw as I don't like having lots of extra fabric up around my neck but you could easily do something simple if you wanted a more finished look - perhaps you could do a row of single crochet (popping maybe 4 or 5 single crochets in each chain space, or however many keeps your tension looking neat - too many stitches will cause it to ruffle) OR you could be even more fancy and pop a picot in (chain 3 then slip stitch to the first chain you did) to create a little loop? 🙂

I just finished making this shawl as my first "big" project and I am in love! I used a heavier, 6 bulky wool blend yarn in color changing greens in just shy of 270 yards and am calling it my "swamp shawl" and it came out absolutely amazing! I am just learning to crochet and your videos have been crucial in my journey, you're awesomely inspiring and a great teacher 🤙🏼☺️ Now I just have to practice to hopefully get as fast as you some day! 😂😂

This shawl is AMAZING!!!! I made it extra large because I just wanted to be totally wrapped up in it. I used a lightweight yarn in Fall colors. Because there are so many 5-chains, instead of counting to five over and over again, I'd name family members, so I'm calling the shawl my Family Fall Shawl. :) It's stunning if I do say so myself. I'll be glad when the summer is over and the weather gets cool again so I can snuggle up in it! :)

Absolutely beautiful pattern, one of my favorites to make. To strengthen the final row and give it a slightly more "finished" look, I added a finishing row. If you care to try it, feel free!
Make your shawl to your desired size. After your last row, chain one and turn. Work your initial turning edge stitches as normal. (Slip stitch into the 2nd and 3rd double crochet, then slip stitch into the chain 2 space. Chain 3, then do 2 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet.) Instead of chaining 5 after, I chained 3. Then worked 2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 more double crochet, into the chain 5 space. Single crochet on top of the single crochet from the row below. Then just repeat all the way across. At the end of the last chain 5 space, work your 2 double crochet, chain 1, 2 double crochet. Then chain 3 and work your final edge set. (Into the chain 2 space from below, work your 3 double crochet, chain 2, 3 double crochet.) When complete, tie off, weave in your ends, and voila! A beautiful scalloped top edge on a gorgeous shawl!

Love this. And would love to see the self- edging border done in a rectangle or square.

In case anyone was wondering, a magic ring to start this shawl works beautifully! I prefer working with magic rings when I can, it simply always looks cleaner with my work. ❤

I've made this pattern so many times with all different weights of yarn. It's perfect! Soooo simple to memorize and just while away hours. Love this!! I keep coming back to it.

Hi have you made one using superfine #1? Have some I need to use for gifts. If so please let me know how you did it. Thanks

@@mufinmanswife you can but it's tedious. I've done it. Once! You will be at it FOREVER! It does turn out gorgeous, but very delicate. More like a giant doily.

Made two of these with Caron Cotton Cakes, colors of Beachglass and Hydrangea. They worked up beautifully and quick. I used a size K hook. Working on little tanks with matching yarn to wear with. Thank you for the perfect Summer shawl tutorial ❤️

Wow, matching with a tank top is a wonderful idea! (I I don't know if I'll have enough of the same yarn for one, but I think that I'll check to see if the same color is still available. )

Connie Stone Connie there are some coordinating colors. I bought ocean breeze to go with both Beachglass and hydrangea.
