I was on my second round of watching the old ones over again as I’m going through a divorce, the same trauma bonded relationship of over a decade. Alan, thank you for creating a video with such a profound message 🤗Having experienced prolonged grief after a dysfunctional relationship that I ended with great difficulty, I completely resonate with it. It's indeed because we lack a secure sense of self that we're unable to end a relationship that isn't serving us in a healthy way. As you have explained, I think the reason we can have tremendous difficulty letting go and moving on from an enmeshed and co-dependent relationship is not so much because we love or miss the other person, but because we cannot cope with the emptiness we feel from the loss of ourselves. I've come to realize that healthy self-esteem and a secure sense of self are essential to living a fulfilled life, whether we are in a relationship or not.

You are amazing and one of my favorites. It is christmas eve and my 91 year old dad has survived a stroke and put in a nursing home. The grief is overwhelming that the end is really going to be near. Was a real blessing to hear.
Thank you for sharing your grief. I can understand how stressful that was.
I had been contemplating breaking it off for six weeks, yet I had Christmas gifts for him. I kept being hopeful that he would step up. He didn't, even though we talked about it. I finally gave up after feeling unloved and unwanted for a long time. I broke up today.

we broke up a few months ago but continued to hang out for months until today, she wants me back but I just know it wont work and I don't want to suffer and I realized im being selfish hanging on to her. I broke away for her sake. maybe we will be friends in a few months, I don't know. but I can't string her along, its not right
