The song was originally about a woman who helped Corey through a really tough time in his life and he ended up falling for her and thinking she had similar feelings for him but sadly she didn’t but it took on a new meaning when the man he wrote it with Paul gray the bassist in his band passed away from a drug overdose
You should check out The Warning, it's three sisters from Mexico. They are phenomenal. Three pice band and all three sing very well. They are fully bilingual and most of there songs are in English with a couple in Spanish. They have 1 EP and 3 LPS and not a bad song on any. You can literally randomly pick a song from there channel and you'll love it.
@@Templarofsteel88 I think the original song fits just perfectly on that album and at that point of Slipknot's evolution. I can definitely see where Corey's thought must have gone, because even with the lighter songs on The Subliminal Verses it would have clashed heavily with the style of their previous albums. It came along at the right time
Others have touched on the songs meaning - origins of the song are about a failed relationship in Corey’s past. He wrote this song but didn’t think it was good enough for Slipknot, Paul Gray heard it and really pushed for the song to be included on their album saying how much he loved it. Not long after Paul passed away from an overdose. I think the emotion now when it’s performed is from Paul’s passing.
Great breakdown. The fact that he is so emotionally afflicted during this particular song is visualized as he struggles and even bites his lower lip to keep it together at 04:40-04:50
You should have a listen to Song #3 from stone sour acoustic version most of his stuff acoustic on that band is mostly all belting and its amazing... or hesitate acoustic stone sour amazing as well..
That whole live show is amazing! Loved slipknot since I was 10 (30 now) and man Corey's voice and lyrics always astound me even now. There are some other acoustic recordings for him, of some stone sour songs too, outside of this concert. But that concert is seriously so good, if you ever have an hour and a half and are bored it's available on UA-cam last time I checked! Thanks for all your videos :)
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach Great Reaction! If you like listening to Rock and Metal singers sing their songs acoustically, you should check out some of the MTV Unplugged shows. A very popular one is the band Pearl Jam and the song is Black. Eddie Vedder is the singers name and he has a great voice.
4:15 One guy tries to sing the backup part and immediately regrets it. This is actually a Slipknot song, Corey couldn't decide if he wanted it on the album and their bass player Paul pushed him to do it. Paul OD'd not too long after that album came out, so it was obviously heavy to begin with but then it became about losing him, too.
He actually talked about the song and the song is about his divorce from his first wife who he was together with for a very long time. There is a similar verse on the song ‘Til We Die. It’s the second verse where he talks about essentially getting pushed out of his family by his then wife. Paul was the only one of the band members who really backed the song and that’s why when he sings it, he thinks more of Paul than he does his ex wife. Especially since Paul died.
Love the reaction! Since you singled out an acoustic performance here, I would love to see you react to a couple of Lzzy Hale/Halestorm performances. One was recorded during the pandemic and is just Lzzy with Mark Morton (Lamb of God guitarist) doing the Black Crowes "She Talks to Angels". The other is the Sirius XM/Octane studio of Halestorm doing acoustic cover of Little Big Town's "Girl Crush". Both are absolute fantastic showcases of Lzzy's vocals in that stripped down setting you mention. Keep up the fantastic content!!

Would love for you to react to Avenged Sevenfold... The lead singer has had some rough vocal cord injuries but has changed his style up and just gotten better and better.
Check out some Aaron Lewis acoustic stuff. He's was the vocalist for Staind before he went into country music. He has great raw vocal talent in my opinion.
Corey killed his vocals several years ago. He enlisted the help of Melissa Cross. She started off as an opera singer and now teaches "The Zen of Screaming". She helped him (and many other famous singers) how to safely sing and not destroy their vox. I mean, Corey utilizes clean, fry, belt, diaphramatic support etc yet now understands passagio and many other technique's. Something Jon Bon Jovi now uses but unfortunately - its kinda too late for him. Jons vox are shot but at least he still gets up and performs. Snuff is a porwerful song. This acoustic version is deep. Paul Gray (google). Lots of emotion etc. Anyhow, good to see others enjoying the darker side of music. Been a metal fan 37 years and over last 5-6 yrs or so ive seen an influx of non metal heads reacting to metal. Good on one side, bad on the other. Not gona explain but hey, at least you seem passionate about what you do. Peace 🤘🏻
Honestly, i don't think everyone in Slipknot felt the same about Joey's death as they did Paul's. Paul's death was a shock and a surprise. It also contributed to the reason Joey was fired. Not official, but it was. Joey's death was not a shock to the members of Slipknot. If anything, it was validation for firing him because it was kind of expected.
You can't feel the emotion. I'm a classically trained musician and I've learned it's not always about the tone and notes. I wasn't trying to be mean either
@@andrewkoetz4849 lol "wasn't trying to be mean" the classic get out of insulting someone card. Darn it, what a shame I can't squish in ALL the points into the intro.

Corey was not sure if the song would fit with slipknot but Paul push for it to be on the album, knowing how much the song meant and how good it was.

We shall never know. It is a great song full of emotion.
Best Corey Taylor performance ever!
Amazing right?! Just so simply but soooo good!
I disagree, Home/Zzyzz is better (in my opinion) but this is amazing
Sorry for interfering. If I may ask, what ist so simple?
Corey Taylor is a fucking god send in metal and everything musically he does. He’s one of my top favorite singers.
He is fantastic I agree!
"Connection to the lyrics." You're the first person to phrase it this way. Kudos to you for your observations.
Thank you Chris! 🥰

BELTING
Corey has only had vocal lessons much, much later on in his career, his vocals are top-notch now!
yay Andy!!!
I love your style of analysis, this is what i look for in these types of videos, hope to see some more metal music here

I love his stuff with Stone Sour just because it's easier for me to hear his voice than in his heavier Slipknot stuff.

Oh wow I didn't know that. How horrible for him. ❤️
Im used to the album version and am allways waiting for the drums and guitar to start
Great reaction. You have a beautiful voice.
Shocked you were able to talk about Corey's neck without mentioning how fricken thick it is! His neck is HUGE! 😂
Hmmm yeah but size is subjective. I am merely pointing out the work going on. The size of his neck has nothing to do with his singing
that song is really heavy for Corey Taylor, one time he started crying after playing
Please examine Bother from Stone Sour
FYI one of Corey's nicknames is The Neck.
Really?
Ive been trying to expand my singing abilities lately!I love high notes, and the trick im using is to not open my mouth too much, its kinda working!
yay!!! did you try it from one of my videos? That makes my heart sing that you are finding it easier to reach high notes. ;)

Another song that is so emotional is called The Old Man by John McDermott
I will take a look thanks Mike!

the song was written for many reasons. Paul passing away, Coreys marriage troubles.

Slipknot heaviest song
Heaviest as in sad or rock

As a vocal coach, you should at least know how to level your mic with the music. The 4.5db difference makes the video unwatchable.
