Cool :) It makes me smile when some of my older work is still helping people out. Back when I did it, there was very little to find on the subject, so I set out to make a comprehensive video on it... It took a lot of time and editing for sure. :)
David Stillman Thank you, I had a great teacher growing up. So for as Honda goes, to each his own I guess. Go with what you know. I know Honda's, have had 4 of them, all way's took me home at the end of the day.
Have a question concerning the Flywheel removal, your video is the only one I found that deals with rear crankcase cover. So my question is if you would advise any special concerns or or tools needed to remove the flywheel once the case is removed. This particular ATV had all the bolts come out of the fly wheel and chew up the ALTERNATOR. Any feed back would be gratefully appreciated. Be starting this project as soon as i make room in the shed.
Well, since i didn't have to remove the flywheel I'm not real sure if you need any special tools to do it. My guess, if you get as far as i did in the tear down, and its looking right at you, hopefully it will just unbolt if there's no additional damage to the crank itself, if there is... that's probably going to involve an entire tear down / engine remove to replace/ repair the crank. "Hopefully Not" Good Luck :)
Really nice informative video. Thanks for taking the time to do this. I have a question...A lot of people have problems with the Rincon grinding in Reverse Gear. You did not mention that issue when you had the back cover off. I was told the newer ones had a final shifter gear with fewer dogs (gears) to more easily go into forward/reverse. What year is your bike, and does yours have this newer shifter? Mine is a 09 and I"m debating whether I should do this tear down and replace this final shifter. I'm having a little grinding issues in Reverse, its minimal if I slam it into gear really fast. Thank you sir.
Thanks for compliment, I enjoyed the project and the fruits of my labor:) My Bike is and 08, I guess I lucked up with a Rincon that hasn't had that problem before or after the swap. The guide I included in the comments section mention this issue being related to an improperly adjusted shifter cable causing excessive wear on the gear dogs. The link to the guide has expired since last I uploaded it "Its hard to keep files like that up for free". However I still have the printed copy. (This is a Quote from the guy who made the guide I followed) "Check the forward & reverse gear dogs for wear or damage, replace if necessary. The 06 RIncon had a reverse gear dog damaged due to an improperly adjusted shift cable. It would grind unless shifted quickly into reverse" End Quote. Your issue sounds a lot like what he was describing. I didn't upgrade the shifter since I had no cause to do so. Best of luck getting it straitened out.
Great job like to see mechs take there time and do things right. That's the difference between a real mech and the millions of chuds call in them selves mechs
took my stator out changed it cut some wires different plug end and now wont start is there any timing or anything to do with stator and it should not matter what yellow wires go where right
Please help,I have '08 Rincon like you have, been sit for few months, try to start yesterday but the starter is spin(heard the spinning sound)but the it won't spin the engine.I try to do the pull start but seem like the engine won't spin.So please give any idea??thanks Jimmy
Yellow dog sorry to bother you but I’m doing a gear reduction on mine and it’s grinding from neutral to reverse and neutral to drive do you know what the part is called to fix that? Wanted to fix it while I was in there I read or seen something about a gear shifter shaft?
here is a link to a breakdown of the gear shift components for the 08 Rincon " this is what's in my video, www.adeptpowersports.com/oem-parts/2008-honda-fourtrax-rincon-gpscape-trx680fga-gearshift-fork-assembly.html i think you may be looking for what is called the drum gear, but it's in this area that you may have a problem. When you get to this part of your machine, you should be able to see unusual wear on the gears .
I have an issue with my 2006 680 Rincon. It is grinding when shifting from neutral to forward or neutral to reverse...will this fix the issue or do I have some other issue?
I have an issue with grinding when shifting to reverse. If I go to forward, then to reverse, it typically wont do it. Any idea how to fix this? I've seen that it has something to do with the dogs or shift forks.
Well, since I haven't had the issue myself i haven't had to fix it. Wear on some of the gear dogs the shift fork goes into is one cause for that issue. If adjusting the shifter cable doesn't help that's probably what you got going on. Since i'm not a Certified Honda Mech, just DIY guy, there may be some other things to look for that I'm not aware of.
After gear reduction was installed, my transmission will slip until it warms up ? Also noticed a grinding sort of crackeling sound , any thoughts ? Before I drop this rincon 650 off to the dealer ship
I haven't had any issues like that with my Rincon... still going strong since I did it.. I' have heard some guys getting a grinding issue when going into gear caused by a shift cable out of adjustment... beyond that I've got nothing :(
I used your video to complete my Rincon gear reduction this weekend. Much appreciate the videos and tips. Thank you.

Very professional production. Excellent skill set. Keep up the great work.
The only draw back is that it is a Honda.

I appreciate the remarks, I got my work work ethic from my Father. He taught me if its worth doing, its worth doing right.
Nice job on the video.

Hey did you ever open up the rincon to see what was going on? I’ve got one that’s doing exactly what you described.

Thinking of doing this sounds like you got k love on
yep I believe it was :)
I was wondering to know where you got the gear reduction at
hondapartsnation.com
the parts list is in the description.

I have the problem going into reverse. Having a real hard time getting it in. Did you find the issue?
hello, with what force did you tighten the alternator cover, please state in kilograms
Its been a while since i did this project, I don't think I have the specs I went by anymore, if I do come across it i will post it.
