I wonder why people even call RLM "star wars fans" in the first place. They have always been dismissive about Star Wars because they believe Star Trek is superior in any capacity. This is the main complaint in the Plinkett's Star Trek the 2009 movie review: "they made Star Wars out of my Star Trek" and offered JJ Abrams to film Star Wars instead. They were never Star Wars fans
You're aware there are 3 star wars movies made from 1977 to 1983 right? Those are the Star Wars they like. I'm the same, everything after that has been absolute garbage.

He does _all_ of that with in the first 30 minutes he's on screen, so I say he did quite a lot. He was also an integral part to a prophecy about balancing the force but whatever boring character.
Obi wan didn't technically attack that Tusken Raider. He showed up and his mere presence got them to run away; it's implied that he fought the Sand people before and they were afraid of his laser sword and magic powers. But yes, he was an important character.

Jay here was giving the most honest assessment out of the three here. Rich's takes are the worst because a lot of his hatred of Star Wars comes from it having a religious bent. Still choking, Vader realizes who is standing before him. "I told you to stay out of it, Grand Inquisitor." "The Emperor wishes to speak with you, my Lord."
According to the ROTS novelization, thats essentially what happened. While Obi-wan stood atop of shore of the river of fire, Palpatine's shuttle was in orbit and landing. He could have chosen to go mercy kill vader, but it would have put him in a very bad spot given all the magma and loose gravel. He decieded to instead leave the former jedi and escape the planet.

How tf can the sequels be better than the prequels? Star Wars was never high art, but the sequels are objectively bad, all of them (at least the first two, never seen the third). At least with the prequels there is some subjective bad stuff, a lot of stuff can be argued, hell even Jar-Jar can be argued in favour of and sure it is contrived, but it's not the whole "we have no clue about what the main characters are doing" that the sequels went with
Are you stupid? They hated the sequels. They started the whole “consoom product”/“nerd crew” thing that opened a lot of people’s eyes to the decadence of nerd culture.
I do think RLM has lost a bit of their edge over the years. Maybe it's the constant stream of mainstream crap they've subjected themselves to. Maybe it's just getting older and not caring as much. Maybe it's a bit of contrarianism since so many people hate the Disney version of Star Wars. Whatever it is, the fundamental stupidity of Kenobi's premise and its inherent fan service (in the bad way) would seem enough to make the old them hate it.
I think it comes down to a couple of reasons. 1. They chose to die on the hill that the prequels was the worst thing to ever happen to star wars. 2. They don't want to be associated with the "alt-right" that is criticizing modern media. 3. They lost their interest and passion to star wars when they saw Disney wasn't doing anything good with it.
MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE THEY HAVE LIVES AND THESE DISNEY SHOWS ARE JUST PASSING ENTERTAINMENT TO BE DISCUSSED CASUALLY... AND NOT THEIR ENTIRE PERSONALITY. BUT WHO KNOWS.
RLM are fun idiots but still idiots. They really cannot be taken as serious reviewers. Especially regarding Star Wars. Imagine if you told a guy without superpowers to take a sword and charge a squad of marines? I have the feeling they made this point already and I havent gotten to it yet
Jedi younglings use training sabers, but will eventually create their own lightsaber to continue practicing with. The novels also introduce other methods for practicing lightsaber forms, like the Bane trilogy and the Sith using durasteel blades with toxin-filled barbs that simulated being hit by a lightsaber.
Generally but in a pinch using one someone gave you is fine. Hell when they were rescuing Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Padme in Clones the Jedi tossed Obi-Wan and Anakin lightsabers if I remember correctly. Hell in the old EU Leia hadn't made her own lightsaber the first time around Luke declared her a Jedi. That was retconned when Delray got the book license. The second time around she got declared one I think they had her make one.
Personally, I'm indifferent about Red Letter Media. I don't think they're bad as Anomaly Inc makes them out to be, yet I don't think they're as good as Mauler, Drinker or Nerdrotic make them out to be. Sometimes they make good observations about the culture, like the whole "Don't ask questions. Just consume product and be excited for next product" and the "LOYALTY TO DISNEY. LOYALTY TO THE BRAND" comments. Yet when I watch their Star Wars critiques, I'm often asking myself "Guys, did you even watch the same movie as me? You missed this, this and this points." I'd honestly feel better if they admitted to being Trekkies, preferring Star Trek over Star Wars. That way, it makes more sense why their Star Wars reviews aren't as good because they aren't as invested in the series as much as they are with Star Trek. As it is, I think their takes on Star Wars and their reviews are some of the worst critiques I've seen about Star Wars, filled to the brim with strawmen, poorly researched criticisms, false allegations and a whole lot of fan whinging that doesn't amount to anything than an entitled fan not getting what they want. As it is, I think they're extremely overrated and I think the latest slate of UA-cam critics who were fans or inspired by RLM (like the before mentioned Mauler, Drinker or Nerdrotic) have managed to be more entertaining and informative than these guys in much the same way how Anomaly Inc has surpassed his inspiration, Chris Stuckman. P.S. I always interpreted it as "anyone can physically pick up a lightsaber, turn it on/off, or use it to cut something, but to actually wield it effectively in combat, you need the foresight/telekinesis provided by The Force, which can take decades to master starting from a young age." It's one of the reasons why Luke in Return of the Jedi struggles fighting Vader and why he would have lost fighting Emperor Palpatine if it wasn't for the intervention of Anakin, but why he was eventually able to grow strong enough to become a strong Jedi Master in time for the Yuhzon-Vong war.

13:30 One of the most famous fights in The Matrix is the lobby scene. That fight is completely devoid of emotion or stakes because the main characters are just fighting against random security guards. You need to understand that RLM don't care about Star Wars. The Plinkett reviews were done because Mike saw the prequels as analogous to The Next Generation movies. Plinkett started by doing deep dive analysis on why the Star Trek the Next Generation films were trash compared to the original Star Trek films. Rich is actually in no way a Star Wars fan. Mike has a mild interest in Star Wars, and Jay is a super casual fan perhaps... a normie. Mike did a great job with his Plinkett reviews, but it's not actually from the perspective of a hardcore fan... it's mostly an objective perspective of a guy who understands movies and has an understanding of why the OT was special.
(Spoilers for the ending of Jedi: fallen order) I remember a few years ago, game theory used the ending scene of fallen order to calculate how strong Vader’s force was. The result was ridiculous, equating to more than the titanic, the London bell tower, a dozen elephants, and several jumbo jets. With my (admittedly imperfect) knowledge of physics, what kenobi does in episode 4 blows that out of the water.
Luke picks up a lightsaber and starts waving it around. Its over. There is no retconning needed. The reason nobody uses them is because its "an elegant weapon for a more civilized age."
How interesting that these famous UA-cam critics have no problem on criticizing the prequels, but then with the SW movies and tv shows made by Disney they become devil advocates 🤔

Have I been wrong all these years? I was under the impression Jedi had to make their own lightsbres, am I wrong?
That's how it was before Disney took over. Making your own lightsaber was an important step in becoming a Jedi.

You missed this, this and this points."
I'd honestly feel better if they admitted to being Trekkies, preferring Star Trek over Star Wars.

The one thing I learned from this highlight is Mauler endorses Jizzing responsibly
I've never checked Red Letter Media. I found out about them on the MauLer's The Force Awakens series. Lucky me I've found Longman first.
They're a completely different kind of channel, their best of the worst series is legendary.
Check out best of the worst, it's great
(Spoilers for the ending of Jedi: fallen order)
I remember a few years ago, game theory used the ending scene of fallen order to calculate how strong Vader’s force was.
The reason nobody uses them is because its "an elegant weapon for a more civilized age."
redlettermedia just wants Star Wars to fail, that's why they perpetuate this blatant lie of "lightsabers are supposed to be heavy duuuurrr".
How interesting that these famous UA-cam critics have no problem on criticizing the prequels, but then with the SW movies and tv shows made by Disney they become devil advocates 🤔
They're just taking the piss at this point.
They're being contrarian because its the only fun left in the bloated corpse of Star Wars.
>even doe they hated pretty much all of Disney Star Wars
Um what ? Have you seen some of the shit they've said about the Star Wars sequels? Lol
@@basedggallin4556 Dont bother. He's just a prequel fanboy getting his kicks in.
@@Lobsterwithinternet I'm being generic, I'm not talking about RLM only
They're "intellectual" Star Trek fans.... 😂
Its time for RLM to inform their subs that their ability to review movies has dimished
This is the episode that made me stop watching them. It made no sense
I love RLM but they are way, waaaaay too forgiving of tripe like this. Some of their takes are laughably bad. Don't forget they also liked Halloween Ends and Matrix Resurrections.
Why the hate boner for the prequels? Theyre not bad movies. Hell, they're oscar worthy compared to how awful the sequels turned out to be
There are some bones there to work with, but execution was poor. A few actors gave it their all, but much of those movies is really poorly delivered dialogue mixed with flashy fight scenes.
@@kylekatarn5964 idk, man. I dont think the dialogue is as poor as people make it out to be, even Anakin's sand line. Maybe i have to watch them again, its been a while.
@@dotflannnope you're not wrong. The dialogue really isn't that bad. It's because it doesn't have the cliché acting and marvel humour that people are used to ingesting
@@shogunpug4071 I saw a video called "george lucas is the king of wooden dialogue" or something from a guy called "so uncivilized". Guy makes good videos I think
The force used to be something you’d be in tuned with and would heighten senses and sometimes allow you to manipulate things around you. Now Jedi are just Dr Strange.
RLM BROKE NEW GROUND at having bad takes
Of course Mike thinks Obi-Wan should kill Luke due to his father. It is the Klingon way, sins of the father are inherited.
Ah yes, the infamous "Jay's Cheque Didn't Clear" episode.
Wonder how many nerds realised Damage Control Media's business model by now.
Protip: They only piss strictly in one direction, and that's not towards their employers.
Mike writes Jay's checks. And Rich Evan's. I don't think you know what you're talking about so you are dismissed.
@@LtCaveman
Mike effectively owns the others, via their paychecks?
Huh.
Will keep that in mind.
There’s a Clone Wars comic set during a battle on Kamino, and a scene happens much like in Kenobi. The difference is that it takes three powerful Jedi (Shaak Ti, Kenobi, and Anakin) to hold back the water.
Wait until you watch their Acolyte review.
Anna had said that RLM did not seem like fans and that they were talking about Kenobi because it was the show everyone was talking about.
--RLM just dropped an Acolyte Review. Yay.
RIP Wade, Ascended
Mike never recovered from the Shatner thing.
"What I liked about Kenobi was that by the last episode it was about the titular character"
Also- Darth Vader acted out of character in the reenactment of the scene that established his character. Logic
Good job, everyone
50:45 I remember in the Dark Nest trilogy there’s an Ewok pirate or something that uses Luke’s lightsaber temporarily in zero gravity and he’s flailing all over the place because he’s not used to how the weightlessness of the blade feels and it’s really funny. Normies can turn on a lightsaber and most likely use it as a tool to cut something open but certainly can’t use them very effectively in combat.
Disney needs to readSandersons magic system rules hard and soft systems. Disney is trying to straddle both, which causes the world to break down.
Noice. I remember when RLM did a part 2 of Kenobi and was hoping that EFAP would tear it a new one.
What a good day.
Hey Rags (when I found out he was also a Mistie, a fan of MST3K, he became my favorite)!
I remember when Starkiller ripped a star destroyer out of low orbit. Force Unleashed games were silly. Fun, but silly.
Now everything is silly and Force Unleased feels reasonable :V
He did not rip it from low orbit, though. It was already falling and he shoved it into the ground, pushed against it, and still had to jump and run to survive. The whole thing was to slow it down to allow him and the crew to live.
Still a bit silly, though, as you said.
Rich Evans liked the force unleashed 1 but didn’t like the prequels. That says enough about their star wars takes.
@@Arwilusit was not already falling, it was hovering over Raxus Prime and Starkiller pulled it out of the sky. The ship will actually right itself whenever Starkiller had to stop and focus on tie fighters.
@@Arwilus Kota telling him to "rip it out of the sky" and the fact he's clearly steering it would lead one to think he's ripping it out of orbit
@@TSTD_Punisher @timothymills6134 Could be different versions causing confusion, but in the PC version I played it is falling from an orbital facility. ua-cam.com/video/2W1OYUYx_Ic/v-deo.htmlsi=RySb14TYQ1ovqhdX
Edit: The novelisation also established it is falling.
Their expectations are so low, they dont really give an f
RLM sucks. Haven’t watched them in years.
3:48 Surprised E;R didn't pick up on that Auschwitz joke lmao
No matter what you may think of EFAP you can always rely on based takes and people who stick to their principles here.
Based? They're a bunch of closet leftists that can analyze anything for 4 hours except the actual thing making entertainment suck today.
I also want to add to that discussion about Sidious vs Yoda being supposedly silly because the platforms were getting thrown:
That was the peak of the Sith and Jedi of their era clashing each other, if there ever was a fight to go big with the Force, it was then. And this might be just me, but even though there's the whole Force empowering them physically-stuff, I'd still argue Sidious and Yoda are feeling their age, they are not as fit, so even more the reason for the fight to turn into a test of how much power they can figuratively and literally throw at each other
Mike is just the causal goer to theatres who happens to review movies
Sometimes he TRIES to sound deeper and sometimes he manages to, but otherwise it's the empty wannabe intellectual takes of "oh they exploited ze whamenz"
It's hilarious when people who have barely as much knowledge on filmmaking start calling a literally filmmaker a casual viewer. The guy literally went to film school and has a production company. I think he's a little bit more than a casual viewer of movies. He just doesn't make clickbate 7 hour rage videos about Star Wars.
The only version of the kenobi show i saw was the 2hr cut. Im literally finding out now that reva survived. I think im more surprised at the fact i went so long not knowing that information.
They're literally being so nonchalant and obviously don't care about the show. Efap have to pause the video every second acting all annoyed when clearly rlm are being sarcastic with half their takes. Like them getting legitimately annoyed at Mike for saying obi wan should kill Luke is annoying. He's literally laughing his ass off talking about it.
It’s hilarious bc RLM has basically checked out of Star Wars since rise of skywalker. To think theyll go a step further add fuel to these stupid culture wars is laughable. They only care about the movies / shows that they review
2:30 Iirc, Obi-Wan tells Luke that Leia is his sister, and that Vader is his father. It was just a brief cameo though.
3:00 He told Luke to go see Yoda in Dagobah.
How can he say he’s a huge RLM fan but also say he thinks he’s being serious about killing Luke. He’s clearly joking in the same humor they always have 😂
I think after seeing this, the George Lucas AI rant about RedLetterMedia makes a lot more sense now.
This is one of Efap's worst videos. The full video is like 7 hours long picking apart an obviously non-serious review. Like them legitimately getting annoyed about Mike saying that Obi-Wan should have killed Luke, is so dumb. Mike is barely containing his laughter saying it, and Jay his breaking out laughing hysterically.
Loved hearing your voice Wolf! Thank you for doing these. ❤
I think rlm and especially Jay have an issue with being aligned with any major narrative or stance the majority of the internet takes.
Its usually the first words out of his mouth any time they review a film. He wiggles his hands in the air, and mocks the current discourse as if he's too good for it.
Its tired and not very genuine.
Obi wan was there for the twins birth. Shouldn't he already know that there is another besides Luke?
I really dislike when RLM picks a couple of strawman opinions tweets that are over the top and stupid, then pretend that they are representative of most criticism. I've noticed them doing it a lot in recent years.
