8 years later, still one of my favourite videos on youtube.
10 years later
11 years later.
@@OSCURO333 12 years
@@invisibleman4225 still my fave
Agreed
I keep coming back to this video 14 years later. It's so good.
I adore this video - one thing that I always notice every time I watch it is that you are instantly drawn to each person's eyes. In each 'clip' the character is slient, but they are able to say so much just with their eyes. That's fantastic acting - and what makes these villains so chilling even to look at.
+Skinner McLane Yes. Kathy Bates in Misery should be up there with the scariest. I haven't seen the film in a long time but seeing that look at 2:49 bought the terrifying moment right back to me. Good god, I watched Misery when I was about 10 years old and the next part traumatized me.
I agree. I always make my way back to this video, love how the music matches each scene as well
Harry Hanrahan surely was one of the best at bringing forth the essence of cinematic characters, his passing will be mourned.
Wait, the owner of this channel died?
@@shriharihudli
Yes.
It's been two years since I first found this video and I still watch it and I still think it is a haunting masterpiece
Sarah Cook Its a perfect combination between fucked up personalities and music
This is the video that began my obsession with Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
Now whenever I listen to East Hastings (generally once a day) I see Leatherface dancing with his chainsaw.
12 years later, I still come back and rewatch. Thank you!!!
Same literally the best video about villains in cinema I’ve seen.
If you're wondering what song this is, it's an excerpt from Godspeed you! black emperor's East Hastings.
I can't explain how happy I am to see the Joker on this list, great video.
I love how when Norman Bates comes on screen, the violins start to play. Terrific editing there.
I still come back to your channel man. Been here since 2012.
12 years later and still coming back to this video. That ending though. Holy shit.
HH1 - we miss you. You make such awesome movie videos - please come back!
Gary Oldman in Léon: The Professional
omg your right how did that one get missed?
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT
Bring me everyone.
At least he is included in this list (True Romance)
One of the first videos I saw that I randomly found and kept watching 11 years ago
Still one of the greatest all-time internet things
Bravo 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I come back to watch this about every year or so. I know everyone wants to see the good guy win, but there is nothing more captivating in film than a fascinating villain. Some great ones I feel were left out and some great new ones if the list were updated. The Warden from Shawshank redemption, Mr Harvey from the lovely bones, Thanos, and Darlene from Ozark.
Thanos isn't human
I just realized I've seen a lot of movies in my life.
Such a great video! I think the only one two missing from the time the video was released are Amon Goeth (Schindler's List) and Percy Wetmore (The Green Mile).
I would love to see an updated version or the second part of this. Could think of several great performances that would fit right in:
Hans Landa (Inglourious Basterds)
Lou Bloom (Nightcrawler)
Fritz Honka (The Golden Glove)
Amy Dunne (Gone Girl)
Andrew 'Pope' Cody (Animal Kingdom)
Ms Jones (Prisoners)
Lester Ballard (Child of God)
Kyung-chul (I Saw the Devil)
Calvin Candie (Django Unchained)
Silva (Skyfall)
Frank (Alexandre Aja's Maniac)
Brady Hartsfield (Mr. Mercedes)
Chang (Only God Forgives)
Father (The Sacrament)
Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish (Game of Thrones)
Young-min (The Chaser)
'Killer' Joe Cooper (Killer Joe)
Lord Naritsugu (13 Assassins)
David (The Guest)
Kevin (We Need To Talk About Kevin)
King John (Ironclad)
I consider Chang to be the good guy (even though he's clearly psychotic and his torture of that mobster was fucked) and think Crystal is the more fitting entry from that movie but that's just me. Also, love your list.
Those are some quality suggestions indeed. Apart from that, here's a few others:
Walter White, Gus Fring and Todd Alquist (Breaking Bad);
The Shelbys (Peaky Blinders);
Tony Soprano (The Sopranos);
The Governor (The Walking Dead);
Cpt. Henry Rhodes (Day of The Dead);
Amy Dunne (Gone Girl);
Sgt. Bob Barnes (Platoon);
Wilson Fisk and Benjamin Poindexter (Daredevil);
Keyser Söze (The Usual Suspects);
Sweeny Todd (The Demon Barber of Fleet Street);
Lee Woo-Jin (Old Boy);
Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Dune);
Yuri Orlov (Lord of War);
Agent Kruger (Elysium);
Arthur Fleck (The Joker);
Jack Napier a.k.a Joker (Tim Burton's Batman);
The Riddler (The Batman);
Homelander (The Boys) (though, to be entirely fair, calling him "human" could be considered a bit of a stretch);
Lil' Ze (City of God);
Mama (Dredd);
Jack (The House That Jack Built) (the nastiest of the bunch, imo);
Asami Yamazaki (The Audition).
Excellent list!@@ЕгорФомичев-ю3щ
Amazing...left me speechless!
Rewatched 28 days later the other day and it featured 'East Hastings' which this video embedded in my psyche the first time I watched it, so I naturally had to come looking for it. This is hands down my favourite video on UA-cam.
Alfred Hitchcock once said: "A movie is only as good as the villain." This list with memorable villains proves he was right
Excellent list.A lot of my favorites are in it including Clarence Boddicker from Robocop, Hans Gruber from DieHard and Anton Chigurh from No Country For Old Men
I miss a few good villains though.Scorpio from Dirty Harry,Archibald Cunningham from Rob Roy, Indio from For a Few Dollars More,Daniel Plainview from ThereWillBeBlood, Frank in OnceUponATimeInTheWest, Goldfinger
Brilliance. I especially appreciate that you made the exception for tv character Snoop, and your use of GSYBE was perfect. Extra bonus points for including Nicky Santoro.
I really loved this video a lot. I remember watching it about three years ago and only being able to name a few of the characters, and now, watching it again, I know nearly everyone you pictured, which makes me feel pretty damn proud and modestly dorky. Would have loved to see Stansfield from Leon, but what can you do.
I keep coming back to this video, it is brilliantly done, thank you for sharing it with us! I've just recently listened to Godspeed you! black emperor's F# A# and realized that a certain amazing part of their East hastings track was used for this video. When I heard it out of the blue and recognized it, I almost screamed with delight!
Its been 12 years. But here i am back again
Hans Landa and Keyzer Soze would be excellent additions to a part 2. Your videos are always so well put together, with the music and the way each clip flows into the next.
Not many will have seen the Australian film 'Animal Kingdom', but Ben Mendelson's character Pope, is easily one of the most realistic and frightening portrayals of a truly evil man and psychopath. A worthy addition should there be a new video.
Speaking of Australian films, any video showing great human villains of cinema is incomplete without Arthur Burns from "The Proposition." Why Danny Huston wasn't handed the Oscar that year is beyond me.
Nice choice for last bad guy
+dogburndan a very ultra choice
JimmySteller lol okay 👌🏻
@@JimmySteller Not a villain. He enjoys hurting other people, including his own "friends".
This is still so fire
Thanks for putting in Rutger Hauer from The Hitcher. Such an underrated performance.
Very well done from start to finish... and a great list.
Honorable mentions in my opinion would go to Nino Brow (Wesley Snipes in New Jack City)
I must say I am ecstatic to see John Doe and Bill the Butcher on this list. Two of the most underrated villains ever.
Who watches at least twice every year?
Here here! 🎉 🍺
A worthy video my friend, that music was perfect to go with it.
Watching this now for millionth time, I guess. Such an amazing work! All my favorite characters and magnificent music.Thanks for a great video!
Just watched Blue Velvet for the first time recently. Frank seriously is one of the most fucked up movie villains I have ever seen.
***** True, he even drinks hipster beer
+Yoshihiro Akiyama Yes, Frank Booth is *fucked up*.
Especially during the rape scene, I flat-out *cheered* when he died.
Nice close-ups on each villain's face.
After 10 years from 2009, which new villains would you include here?
Too many crap films out nowadays too add anyone of note.
This film might have been made before City of God became a thing. Lil Ze should always be included with top villains of cinema.
Sam Claflin - The Nightingale
Charlotte Gainsbourg -Antichrist
Matt Dillon - The house that Jack Built
Denis Ménochet - Jusqu'à la garde
Ezra Miller - We Need to Talk About Kevin
Rosamund Park -Gone Girl
J.K.Simmons - Whiplash
Juliette Binoche - High Life
I just took a look at the list of 218 films I have watched last year. Maybe some are too "human" or haven't done anything cruel enough but for sure they made me feel very unconfortable and were anything but lovable!
Oh! And of course Choi Min Sik in I Saw the Devil! Kevin and him would definitely be in an updated video! No doubt!
Honestly, and I do realize that this is an old comment (left on a very old video nonetheless) but still, If it was up to me to choose one villain for a sequel to a video like this I would've probably picked Antony Starr's Homelander from The Boys. Really, the guy is just insanely good at playing a horrifying megalomaniac who sees himself as a god of this world. What's really impressive about his performance is that he can pretty much encapsulate the essence of his character without having to say a single word - those dead, plastic eyes tell you just about everything you need to know.
Great list, I have seen the clip at least 50 times, but it should have had Henry Fonda as Frank, and Donald Sutherland as Attila.
Out of all the lists I have ever seen this one is untouchable. The music, the montage and the picks are all unquestionable.
All of your videos are generally awesome as well as very accurate overall, but this, this is why why I subscribed. Thank you!
Buffalo Bill was the real villain in "Silence of the Lambs." I'm sorry you didn't include Ted Levine as Jame Gumb or for fun, Anthony Heald as Dr. Chilton, a sub-villain who's actually vital to the plot.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the video!
Hannibal outclasses him
Good to see Norman Bates and Preacher Harry Powell acknowledged, two of classic cinema's most deceitful and psychotic characters
+David Ready Robert Mitchum is a fucking legend. I have reached the point of watching a film just because he is in it.
f*cking awesome. still. perfect music choice
Messala from Benhur would have been a great addition.
Not only is this a brilliant and well edited video but it has an awesome track playing,
I would like to thank the maker of this for introducing me to the lovely band playing.
I would add Gary Oldman from "Léon: The Professional"
Raymond Lemorne from The Vanishing should've been here
This. I mean, that look of his towards the end of the movie when he's just chilling with his family after burying Rex alive is gold.
what if you locked all these people in the same building?
+AFGalwayz They'd all play a game of monopoly together. The most evil board game on the face of this Earth.
Ophiuchus123456789
lol, the losers die and the winner gets to leave with all the other's powers and intelligence.
Hannibal would survive.
The answer to your question is here:
ua-cam.com/video/AW9UJ0zh7cA/v-deo.html
Very good montage!! And 1:30 is really awesome: it looks like Aguirre (the Wrath of God) meets Zero Wolf (Apocalypto). Man, that would be a thrilling scene!!
Seen all of your videos and this is the best one by far.
Should have used the original Cape Fear. Should also have Roy from Blade Runner in there.
I agree with those choices...interestingly, another Rutger Hauer character is on here already (John Ryder from The Hitcher). Maybe he was trying to do one character per actor??
***** One of the messages of the film is that Roy was just as much of a man, if not more of a man than Decker was.
"If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh? If you poison us do we not die?"
Stallion Adlay
Well... Deckard was a replicant too
John Ryder from The Hitcher is a fantastic villain from Rutge Hauer. He just about outdoes his role from Blade Runner. I was genuinely scared watching The Hitcher as a young teen. He is really very disturbing.
Kinski, supervillain:D
Great video. But I think some of these characters are not 'Villains', they're actually 'Anti-heroes', like Alex DeLarge.
A hero with dark qualities, or a "good, bad guy" is an anti-hero. Alex was the main character, but was clearly a rapist, murderer, etc. I think it is fair to call him a villain.
Steve Nichols Yeah, nice point.
Rapist, yeah, but the one murder he committed was accidental.
Luke sol didn't he beat that guy to death in the alleyway, as well as kill the old man's wife and bash that one woman's head in with the penis statue?
vpfan207 Let's not let facts get in the way of things.
: )
2020. Still the best edit. Ever.
you have the best edits on youtube!! waiting for more
Great list. Missing Ralph Fiennes in schindlers list, maybe the king from braveheart and darth vader. Not one Bond villain? Odd job perhaps?
For me it was the blonde russian spy (Robert Shaw) and the russian lady with a poison spiked foot in "From Russia with Love" that should be in this list. Also, tee hee and his metal claw arm. Jaws goes without saying.
Snoop from "The Wire" isn't necessarily a CINEMA-VILLAIN.
+TheClebes and I thought Marlowe Stanfield was a much nastier villain in the series.
I have watched this video religiously since years ago when I first had the pleasure of discovering it. Extremely brilliant
Nice job, really well-done montage, great choice of backing music, too!
This music could not possibly go any better with this video.
Just perfect.
One of the best UA-cam videos ever, and it put me on GY!BE
you do the best supercuts. fine editing and music choice.
This video deserves more views
Nicely done. Great selection and very well edited.
I first found this vid on an Adderall binge, in college, in May, 2011, just after finals ended.. (or atleast.. that's how I Remember finding this vid.. I know I found it around spring, 2011, while browsing UA-cam, on Adderall..). Regardless.. 11 years later, your video is a Beautiful Masterpiece.. tho.. I must say.. I Do find it odd you don't include Agent Smith/the Smith virus, from the Matrix movies.. he def deserves a spot on this list.. (The Smith virus, was a tool, built by the Machines, to do their bidding, while he was an Agent.. much like the Machines were mere tools of the Humans, prior to the events of the war, that resulted in Humanity being enslaved by the Machines.. in an odd sense of Irony.. a tool of the Machines, Agent Smith/the Smith virus, rose up against them.. and Nearly succeeded in assimilating all life on Earth, Human amd Machine and Program, into a copy of the Smith virus. That would of been an Interesting end to the Matrix movies...
that was really well put together! awesome
Epic list none the less!! Great work!
This video introduced me to Post Rock and Godspeed You!Black Emperor.
10 Years on,it remains one of my most favorite UA-cam Videos.
Woooooooooooww dude you nailed it !!!!! excelent choices !! love you vid :D
So glad you included Mr. Olivier from Marathon Man. "Is it safe?", anyone?
Two egregious exclusions here...Hanz Landa of course, and Arthur Burns from The Proposition. Danny Huston gives a bone chilling performance.
Love the pacing of this. Really well edited.
This video gives me the proper chills....with the music from 28 Days Later!! Brilliant
This video will never get old to me. It's beautiful.
love this video, so well done & it inspired the name to a novel i've written. nice to see encapsulated that it's not the ranting, raving madman that's scary but the evil stare when they're deathly still. it's not what they're doing that's scary, it's the unknowing of what they COULD do.
also how about some of the Corleone family? u got others like alex delarge & patrick bateman when the story's from their point of view - the Corleone family weren't exactly heroes
Jan Barker But they weren't sociopathic monsters either, which both Alex and Bateman were to a degree. Both Vito and Michael loved their family and at least Vito had a specific moral code.
***** they were at least to a degree. normal people don't arrange the decapitation of a prized horse and place the head in the owner's bed just because they don't get their own way.
Also Hannibal Lecter works by his own moral code however warped it be. Only killing those he deems rude to him or doesn't deserve to live somehow. Examples being the flute player in the orchestra because he wasn't very good and Barney being the only nurse that survived him merely because he was polite to him.
Jan Barker The difference is that Vito and Michael decided stuff like that never out of a whim or because they enjoyed it. Every crime they ordered or did was business- or at most revenge-motivated. That doesn't excuse them by any means. They are still criminals who did horrible things. But in no way are they ever presented as sociopathic monsters. In fact Vito's objection to enter the drug business is what drives the plot of the first movie. Because even for him that's too evil. And he only reluctantly decides to do it after he himself was gunned down and his eldest son was murdered. He does it because it's the only way to end the bloodshed and protect the rest of his family. Lecter on the other hand is a sociopath who considers himself to be the highest and only moral authority. He decides on a whim who deserves to live and who deserves to die. Not to mention that fact that he eats those people. And judging by his pulse never rising while mutilating the nurse, he has no regrets, no conscience. A savage act like that is as normal to him as reading the paper. And he has no other motivation for his actions then his own twisted whims.
If you want to put someone from the Godfather on this list, the guy that comes to mind (at least after reading the novel) would be Luca Brasi who was feared as a savage beast by everyone.
***** Yeah Brasi was screwed up. But then there's also the Turk that started the war of the 5 families or the Tattaglia family.
Still; being villainous doesn't automatically mean they have to be a psycho or sociopath. I'd stick with putting some of the Corleone family in the video. If not Vito I certainly think Michael should be in there. Or even Sonny or Fredo.
i love that don logan from sexy beast always shows up in your videos, hes vile!
love it
Brilliantly done... Very chilling and powerful
I can tell just by watching this video that you love movies :D great work sir.
thanks for this wonderful and thrilling video!
Good collection...
Nice to see some classics like Reservoir Dogs, Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and even No Country For Old Men...
Good collection indeed.
Loved it!! I also would've included Al Pacino in Godfather, Darth Vader and Ralph Finnes in Schindlers List
Super images and editing, well done! Very good choices as well! Could add a bit more Asian vilains as well, but hey if that's not your stuff that's ok
Would love to see this remade now with some new additions, Hans Landa would definitely fit, and some others
Yesss...
Just one condition though BGM remains the same
TIme for this video to be remade.
the music choices in these lists never disappoint me!
Really well edited video.
Fantastic video!!!! 10/10
i love the clips and the music, this is perfect
Still one of UA-cam's all-time greatest videos. Cheers, hh1.
This is actually a great list . Happy to see Don Logan and Frank Booth made an appearance .
Awesome video man I love writing Villins
Though some villains were missing, great video very badass.
Uno dei migliori video in assoluto !!!!!!!
Great video!
Great/Fantástico video ;)
Great video :D I think u should make a new one with more recent villians and some u may have missed off
Really good video. I want to see this done with Video game Villains too O.O
This video is still as absolutely amazing as I remember :)
this was epic, and totally made my morning.
This is genius - please post an HD version!
What's up Harry? I'm a big fan of your videos...I was wondering, have you ever done one on "disturbing movies" (like Salo or Irreversible), or funny movie deaths? That'd be interesting.
