Hugh Laurie falls under the heading of "It's NOT FAIR" - gifted aftor, virtuoso musician, painter, scholar and apparently great at whatever he attempts. Love the guy (reminder - while playing House MD, he was faking the American accent, he is British!)
And his entire career before that was comedy.
Author and rowing team champion, as well.
that’s all i can ever think when i look at him but i’m more jealous of his wife icl
It's almost unfair that he's that talented as both an actor and as a world-class blues musician. lol!
Saw him (and his excellent band, of course) live years ago and it was an absolutely brilliant show. I wish he'd tour again.
The look on your face when he first started singing was the same reaction I had when I first heard him sing. You don't expect him to be that great. Thanks for the reaction.
wonderful comment, i love hugh Laurie's music 🤜🤛 have a nice day/night
Hugh Laurie is one of our National Treasures 🇬🇧 ❤
Ah oui alors, vous avez raison. Je l'adore, comme chanteur, ou acteur, il est parfait. Je me souvient de sa prestation dans "Les 101 Dalmatiens" ou il était si drôle.
He is an amazing actor, a great musician, and a fantastic comedian! He went to school with Stephan Fry and Emma Thompson and were part of a comedy group with them!
a bit of fry and laurie is classic
After I saw PBS do a documentary of him and his blues tribute I bought whatever CD’s I could find (about 10 or 12 yrs ago, I think). I was so blown away by his talent, his interpretation of the music. I had only known him from “House”- I also started looking into his other acting roles. He’s such an impressive man.
Hugh Laurie is one of those all around amazing talents who can do anything. I was introduced to him a long time ago in a comedy show called "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" back in the 80s. Laurie is a brilliant comedian. I think he became almost a household name when he did House, MD. There are a lot of videos of Laurie singing on UA-cam and they are definitely worth checking out. He has an amazing voice for the Blues.
He far more talented than just an actor. I first saw him in “Sense and Sensibility.” I suspect his IQ is significant. Whatever he does he does well. I think House is play for him, something light.
Hugh Laurie is mostly know for playing Dr. House but he's such a talented musician and his old comedy skits alongside legends like Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) and Stephen Fry in Blackadder are some of the best
Yeah I 1st was introduced to him in Blackadder shown on PBS here in the States a long time ago.
He was my favourite character in Blackadder. I still have the DVDs ..;that says how old i am I still own DVsD... it gets tricky when I want to play them since there are no dvdplayers anymore anywhere... I have to use my Playstation to read these wonderful Blackadder DVDs. Love Prince George, he's the best!
@@marie-anneguibereau7344 Same, keep my PS3 in the front room for Blu Ray duties and still have a Blu Ray optical in my PC as backup. Don't use them very often but maybe internet goes out and all I have is my movies.
The multi talented Hugh has been writing and performing since his early days as a comedian with his long time friend Steven Fry.
In the UK we know him for his wide range of comedy characters and comedy songs.
If you like him in house you should watch him in Blackadder or A Bit of Fry & Laurie he is very talented
Man, there are few things like introducing a friend to some music you love and seeing that smile on their face when they find out they love it too.
Hugh Laurie is a special one, but seeing a reaction like that is something really special too. Thanks for letting us be there for it.
One of my favorites of all time.
This was GREAT.
I knew he could play.
But, I didn't know he could SING.
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥such a talent!!
One of the best, if not the best, interpretation I have ever heard of this piece of music
Dang! I didn't knoew Hugh Laurie could play or sing. Wow! More then just Dr House it seems.
I feel like his acting is secondary to his musicality
I've always loved Hugh's playing...and yes,its House, lol. He acts, plays, and is all around very talented!!😄im so happy you found this one!!!!!!thanks for reminding me of an old favorite..🎶🔥✌
Hugh Laurie is an incredible talent all around. I'm a huge fan of his early career comedy stuff. Long before House the was Fry & Laurie and Jeeves & Wooster. What a killer musician though.
I've been listening to his drug for years. He's so good. "Unchain My Heart" is another one he knocks out of the park
Hugh Laurie is a JAZZMAN
I caught him in concert when he was touring for this album. It was soooooo good.
One of my absolute favorite performances from Hugh. And Preservation Hall is such an iconic place with a sound all its own.
I’ve only seen Hugh in movies or House so this was a pleasant surprise 👏🏼
I did not know House was a musician. Wow!
Yes! This entire concert is fire. You definitely have to check out the entire session.
WOW that was amazing…
He is a brilliant actor comedian and musician who plays piano, guitar, drums, harmonica, and saxophone
Let them talk, his first album is great if you like blues. Recorded in New Orleans. This is a small clip from a concert with Allen Toussant. You can see Tousaintt in the green coat. If you have watched House you will know his character owened instrument, piano and guitars and always listened to blue's and jazz .
Toussaintt also work with The Band and I believe was in The Last Waltz.
I’ve heard him play/sing before and he’s fabulous! Thank you for reacting to this!
This was worth watching just for sheer joy on your face. Such an honest reaction.
Love this song and his art cool to see someone reacting to it
That man’s talent is breathtaking.
Dynamite!
When I first saw this I was shocked just like you. I just saw House.
There's a clip on UA-cam called "House Plays Piano With Patient" which is a scene from House where he plays piano with a patient, giving a glimpse of his piano skills. And that patient is also a musical legend, Mr Dave Mathews himself!
I've had these albums on vinyl for a few years now and they are absolutely some of my favorites
If I could hit the up button a million times I would, Love this version of this song, it has been done by everyone and not as well! He thought playing with "Banned From Television" the best other musicians, but no he went on tour with the greats. He will tell you the most fun he has as a musician is playing with his son, a trombonist. I saw him do this live and it's why I pay for Spotify, so I won't be interrupted.
Juxtapose this with his black adder performances 😅 the guy is sooooooooo underrated
Amazing .
I would had lived to play the saxophone with these folks. Wow!! How epic would that be!! Nothing better than Louisiana style vibe
I absolutely love LOVE LOVE! the smokiness of that woman's voice! 😍
House MD wildin out here!
I heard this three years ago and you nailed it there no other cover that would be better
He dances too. Complete entertainer!
James Cagney was once asked were did he learn to dance. He said he is not dancer he is an actor and he does what ever the part calls for.
Amazing request! I was wondering if he was going sing in his regular voice or his house voice. What a surprise that it was neither.
Incroyable que vous le découvriez seulement maintenant. Sa voix chaude est un plaisir et la musique qui sort de ses mains me fait frissonner avec délectation. Cet acteur, aux yeux si beaux est un trésor aux talents multiples.
This is some fine jazz! He's so talented. I love it
His "Stagger Lee" is amazing as well....
That was awesome
Good song , good reaction ✌🏽
WOW! Who knew?
This concert was a true celebration of New Orleans Jazz and Blues. If you want to sample the original 'St James Infirmary', check out Cab Calloway's version! It was so good, no less an artist than Walt Disney did an animated musical cartoon for the song! Pretty sure Louis Armstrong also had a versoon of the song, and that's definitely worth a listen. Different voices all, but all a part of the history of New Orleans Jazz.
The cartoon you are referring to is called Snow White, featuring Betty Boop, who is a Max Fleischer creation, not Walt Disney. That cartoon was animated by Ronald C. Crandall, directed by Dave Fleischer. The cartoon was released by Paramount in 1933.
I happily stand corrected! It was excellent. @@DragonMama-yt3zs
@@duanerowland2453 It was a great cartoon. Have a wonderful day!!
Brilliant! ❤
A man who is talented, accomplished in multiple fields as in Leonardo da Vinci, a Renaissance Man. Hugh Laurie is one.
He sang "Minnie the Moocher", too.
But as silly Berty Wooster in "Jeeves and Wooster"😅
House MD is what i know him best for, at the time the only other thing i saw him in was the Live Action remake of 101 Dalmatians.
yes this is House. Hugh Laurie is an excellent piano player and did a whole jazz album that he recorded in New Orleans. Super talented guy. Love him!!! When he decided to do his Jazz album he specifically wanted to record it in New Orleans, with local musicians and producers because he wanted the feel of the city in the songs. LOL oh yeah he sangs to!!!
"I need to listen to this on some very loud speakers. I'm going to disturb my neighbors. " My man! I knew that I liked you for more than your reactions!
The cd this is from is fabulous from first note to last. Laurie is gifted -- a great musician and actor and an absolute comic genius. I was waiting to see your face when he started to sing and sir, you did not disappoint.
I absolutely Loved the look on your face when he started singing! He has said this is his first ❤️
Great reaction!
Your reaction was about what my reaction was when I first saw this! I knew he played a little in House but I thought it was faked. 😂❤❤
I'm more into blues than I am jazz, but I love this song even when a jazz band is doing it. When I found out Hugh did a cover I had to find it and was not disappointed. He's a wonderful artist. So glad you got this suggestion!!
If you watched The Boys or Supernatural, Jensen Ackles is another actor with a lovely voice. Nothing like Hugh’s voice, but he’s got a real southern rock, bluesy tone that’s outstanding. His band is called Radio Company.
You might also see some familiar faces if you look up ‘Band From TV’, which Hugh Laurie was a part of.
Hugh is too damn good
Laurie's song, "America" is a classic. Definitely worth checking out.
"You Don't Know My Mind" from the same album as this is one of my favorite songs of his.
house, the man laurie, most underated artist at our time
A Robert Johnson classic
Been on his concert, three hours of greatness. In the beginning, we were all sitting, by the second hour everyone was dancing. He has two albums published, Let them talk and Didn't it rain, and they're just brilliant. My personal favourites are Kiss of fire (duet w Gaby Moreno) and The whale has swallowed me, and also his rendition of Battle of Jericho is great.
“House” did have a keyboard in his office… 🙃
This whole documentary is seriously gifted. I've been trying to get people to react to this for a while now. And yes, that is "House" Hugh Laurie's ass. I love the build ups to the breakdowns. There are so many great versions of this song, it's certainly folk music. "Let 'Em Talk" is great as well.
I always forgot that he used an American accent for house.
Wow, House is a boss.
I...had no idea Hugh Laurie could do that.
More of this please 🙏
this was the reaction i was wanting when i clicked lol its house
Damn, I didn't know House had skills like that
Bet ya never thought you'd be groovin like that to House playin the blues 😂 🔥
0:30 the realisation, hahaha, yes Forman, it is house
He had a Jazz band when he was on House with a couple other of the actors on the show from around the TV sphere called Band From TV.
Hugh Laurie is originally a talented comedian, who was a member of the incredible Footlights while at Cambridge uni, with Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson. He and Fry had a skit series called "A but of Fry and Laurie", which I think you'll enjoy (based on your Monty Python reactions).
Also, if you revisit House episodes where he is home, he is often sitting at the piano playing beautifully.
He put out an entire Jazz album with New Orleans Jazz legends playing the instruments with him...
INCREDIBLE!! 😮❤
It was Hughe fantasy to play with New-Orleans jazz musicians.
Oh, sir, you need to review Cab Callaway doing St James Infirmary!
OK! HOUSE sorry HUGH my goodness, the band or should I say symphony resonates some jazz, BLUES OH! my...🔥🤓
"House" played piano and guitar multiple times on the show. It was genuinely Hugh Laurie.
Hugh Laurie is an English actor, he plays he lead in Dr. House
His piano skills are insane, let’s not pretend jazz piano isn’t hard as sht to play
Yeah, that Dobro at 4:34 gets everyone. Sets the whole mood of the song.
he is House but mostly he his part of Blackadder the best series ever made :)
Great find. There is an entire album, Let them Talk, great throughout. Would love to listen to more of it with you. They made a documentary out of the creation process. Hugh has been a huge blues fan all his life, and he then took it to New Orleans where a lot of these musicians are from. Great homage to the genre. Love it.
You should see him play guitar, drums and saxophone. Not all at once of course, too flashy. He also juggles
Oh, also check out Kiss Of Fire by him as well. It's a mashup of the original Argentinian Spanish song "El Choclo" (The Corncob, the name of a club) and Louis Armstrong's "Kiss Of Fire" based on the same song.
no thats not house. thats Stuart littles dad lol
i wad just watching House re-runs the other day... I had absolutely No Clue he was a musician and singer too.. sheesh....
You want to hear something just as great check out the gits version of graveyard blues. This is a must the singer mia zapata a young punk singer taken eay to early nurdered in seattle in 93 will blow you mind.
Please consider checking out Unchain My Heart by him.
