I've been putting cat things in sellotape for long. I still have my first cat's fur which I used as a bookmark for all the Harry Potter books. I wanted to take her to the hostel with me but couldn't so I settled for a flat piece of sellotaped fur
Just read Gunslinger. It's about the size of a book you usually prefer so you'll read it fine and it's the perfect introduction to Stephen King's magnum opus The Dark Tower
me sitting here wondering if jesse actually turned all his books around for those shots... congrats to your determination cause i could never, ever put myself through that!
Jesse: I wanna keep a reading journal! Me: The heck is that? Jesse: *explains essence of reading journal* Me: *aggressively searches for empty journal to use*
“It that time of the year were we set unrealistic goals for our self and hopes that we are going to carry the rest of the year when realistically we are going to go and crash and burn on February” That hit me hard
Yay a new video. I also had a reading slump in 2019 . I spent most of my free time scrolling through my phone . Which is quite sad. I brought many books but never really read them. Maybe 2020 will change this . 2020 was good so far . Thank you for making your videos:3
As someone who loves Stephen king, I think you would really enjoy The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. It's not as dark or horror as some of his other books and more character driven for sure. It's also really short so great for goodreads challenges
when you lit that match I had a mini heart attack. My mind was instantly like "Are you mad! Get that fire away from the precious highly flammable books!!"
Jesse just need to say it - I love your channel so much. You're so light and pure and positive and it makes for such a wonderful set of videos. My resolution is to watch more of your videos this year! Also, wow, your editing is absolutely breathtaking!
The best I’ve ever done is, instead of telling myself to read a certain amount of books, I tell myself “Okay. Just read one book. One. Goddamn. Book.” This mentality makes me read said book a whole lot faster. After I finished that book, I kept saying “Just read one more book,” and I ended up getting a lot more books into the year than I thought! 81 to be exact!!! That’s about double the amount I read the year before that!! (And I’m a pretty slow reader mind you :P)
Last time I was this early, it was 2019! Looking forward to this year! Edit: Also, I’ve read a thread on twitter saying that telling your goals or dreams to people will actually make you less likely to achieve the goals and dreams (or something of the sorts). The person recommended keeping in some goals and dreams to yourself and then telling when you’ve achieved the goals or are close to achieving the goals. But, best of luck!
I heard quite the opposite in my English book. The book said that when you tell people your goals and dreams you'll feel embarrassed if you decide to drop your goal or feel discouraged.
I've heard that too. I think the idea behind it was that if people share their goals they start to feel like they've already made some big accomplishment towards that goal which then leads to them slacking off with actually starting to do something for the goal.
My Stephen King recommendation is my all time favourite novel by him: *Lisey's Story.* It's one of his books that a LOT of people criticize, but only because it's much more of a love story with horror elements, rather than a horror with romantic elements. Its extremely unique in comparison to most of his other novels. But it's one of the most gorgeous and hypnotic novels I've ever read, and even telling people about it puts a big dumb grin on my face. It's very weird, intimate, and even a bit confusing at the beginning. It's one of those stories that gives you a single puzzle piece at a time, slowly revealing more of the story (through flashbacks in this case) til you have the whole picture at the end. I could barely read the last 15 pages through all my tears, that's all I'm gonna say.
As a Stephen King fan, I'm super excited that you're giving him a try! Misery is a fantastic first choice! I would also recommend a book called The Long Walk. Its definitely shorter than his regular 500+ page books. It's a bit dystopian and definitely a character driven story that's simple to follow, but exciting to read!
i’ve always had a love for books and read every once in a while, but in senior year i was struck by book-cupid (lol) and i’ve wanted to read some more. so i’m reading more now bit by bit and my goal this year is to read as much as i can. i set my goal to 10 books and once i finish that i will upgrade that goal and add 10 more. the most challenging ones are book series so i’m start with stand alones and then move to book series. hopefully i can read as many books at least 50! we’ll see :)
My biggest goal for 2020 is to consistently keep my physical tbr at fifteen or under- right now it's the lowest it has ever been at just seven books and I'm super happy with that, and feel much less bogged down by stress of needing to get to so many books, so I really want to keep that energy
You’re so right though! My reading goals are so hard to keep up with, especially with all the work of my booktube channel! Love your channel, Jesse! 🤗📚
Yay!! I'm also setting some goals!! I think I'm trying to read 75-100 books this year!! I'm currently three books in and I'm reading the starless sea at the moment and it's really good!!
I was in a four year reading slump from my depression but now that I'm doing a bit better. I already finished four books so far this January. It's hard to get back into but annotating them makes it so much more fun!
For Stephen King I think you would enjoy The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, The Green Mile, The body (stand by me novella), Rita & the Shawshank Redemption. Also, The Stand is absolutely incredible, although it is about 1150 pages.
We are so on the same page with the good reader energy this year! Last year I was pretty happy with having surpassed my goal of twelve books by reading eighteen full books and finishing two others, but it wasn’t all exactly what I wanted it be, so this year I really want to focus more on reading books that I’m in the mood for and am really excited to read rather than reading books that I feel like I have to read or read in a certain time because of various reasons. And recently because I’ve made that change I’ve been reading a lot more and faster, so I’m both enjoying what I’m reading more and just reading more in general which is really fun for me. So for 2020 my goal is to read 24 books, and as long as I at least get to that I’ll be happy with my number (although my secret dream is to read 50 😁😅🤞🏻), but more importantly even already I’m really enjoying the books I’m reading so far this year. I’m on such a good streak so far that I know I’m at least going to read five books by the end of this month, which is something I haven’t done in years, so overall I’m really happy with where I’m starting out and where I’m going more than I ever have with my reading before. And I hope this reading year and this year in general can be just as positive for all of us. 😊😌 Good luck, everyone! 👍🏻📖💙
I enjoyed The Road Back to You so much! It really helped me figure out a lot about myself and how I can grow :) I'm hoping to read 50 books this year. I was able to read 35 last year with only really getting serious about it toward the end of summer so I'm hopeful I'll be able to reach it 😊
I want to finishing reading les mis and the rest of Jane Austin's novels this year. 🌻❤ Reading historical fiction about something other that WWII for once would be nice too!
Love these goals! I’m working on reading multiple genres more frequently and more mixed up this year! I tend to read a bunch of fantasies back to back and then get burned out, so to avoid reading slumps, I’ve been mixing it up more and it’s really working out!
I love that you’re reading one Stephen King book a month, I’m trying to do the same thing. I read Misery in January and enjoyed it. He makes a lot of references to his other books in his books which is really cool. I think starting with misery is a good idea because it’s one of his shorter books. Reading some of his most popular books such as Carrie, The Shining and Pet Semetary would also be good for you to start getting into his books. I plan to read the Long Walk next month, and I think that you’d like that one. I currently have 26 of his books (I’ve read 10), but I have so many more on my list.
Goshh, English is not my first language, but the way you talk makes me feel like I’m an expertise on speaking English. Just found your channel and I’m completely IN LOVE🥰
I made a resolution this year to read a chapter a day. It immediately helped get me out of my book slump by getting me a little taste of what I've been missing
I've set my goal of how many books I wanna read this year at 30 bc I haven't had time to read for years and now that I finished school I can make reading a part of my life again, but I don't want to set the goal to high so I felt like 30 was reasonable 😂 My other bookish goal is to finally finish "the lord of the rings the fellowship of the ring" bc I've been trying to get into it for like 5 years but i can't and i like to blame it on the fact that i have the translated version instead of English but i just want to be able to read it without feeling like I need to push myself😂
I got the same goal with LoTR :D but it's one of the few books where I actually want to read a translated version first just so I actually get everything that's going on xD
The audiobook for Fellowship of the Ring is incredible! It's free, on UA-cam, and contains music and sound effects that make it a really wonderful, entertaining read. That's what helped me to finally finish it this year:)
Can we just appreciate how long it must have took to flip ALL those books backwards just for those scenes? Also, don't forget that he would have to flip them BACK again after he finishes filming the video.
YO your individual review videos is why I fell in love with your channel and your opinions so I’m all about brining those lovelies back so you’ll have at least one viewer for those!
Loved this video! The editing was amazing, as always 👌 Your bookish goals are so cool! I feel very motivated for this reading year too 📚 Let’s go readers!
I'm a pretty busy person, so I am setting a REALLY low goal. I am setting a goal of 24 books a year. It's simple, reading two books a month. I won't be stressed or anything. So I think that's a good goal for me. Good luck on your goal!
In my experience listening to Stephen Kings books were so much better. They weren’t as hard to get into as it was when I tried to set down and read them! Happy reading 😊
My goals Read 30 books Finishing harry potter and narnia Try not to buy books And make a dent in my tbr edit as an over acheaver goal read 45 books and have my tbr at zero
My goal this year is 23 books and I just want to get through my to-read pile! I have lots of eastern European authors as my priorities, as well as some classics like Dracula, 1984, 1Q84...
After a 2 year long reading slump I'm getting back into aggressively reading all the books I've been missing out on, thus my goal for 2020 is 35 books. It seems the most achievable considering school and everything but I really hope to get there! Best of luck to everyone else no matter how big or small your goal is ♥️♥️♥️
me on Goodreads setting my goal of 50: *sees someone set a goal of 12* me: Psssh I'd hate to be the person who ONLY reads 12 books a year seeing jessethereader set a goal for 75: I have not reached my full potential. There is a lot of work that must be done...
Have you read the hobbit? It's really nice (it does feel like it's a bed time story, it's such a lovely feeling and a big plus if you like to do voices when reading) .
Yay manga book club is coming back! Also Jesse a rip on journaling try to think of it as a relaxed way to put out your thoughts and try to do it just when ever you have free time it helps make it seem not so much as a chore and more like a fun pastime!
There's Good Book Energy in your outro/tagline thingy. It makes me happy. ^-^ I've only challenged myself to read 30 books (I read 37 in 2019!) but I also want to read from more authors of color and more diverse stories.
My goal is to read at least 25 books this year and to write at least one full length novel. Also I am starting a booktube channel!!! You’ve inspired me. 😄
The Green Mile by Stephen King is absolutely FANTASTIC! It’s not horror but is a moving story about prison guards in the 1930s working on death row. It is really quite a gut wrenching story and is by far my favourite Stephen King.
My physical tbr is down to 11 books and I’m very excited to make my way through them. Last year I read 118 which is a lot for me, so naturally I set my 2020 goal at 120.
sleeping beauties is my favorite king book (as of yet, there's so many) I would also recommend reading the shining one month and then doctor sleep the next, as it's the sequel and there's a movie that just came out. for translated works I recommend the count of monte Cristo (not Japanese, but a very good book) and pride and prejudice (not a translation, but many versions have a china / Japan focus)
I am so so so happy that you will do more reviews, I really loved your books i have read recently series. and i would be more than glad to see it come back and please do post more oftenly, i be refreshing youtube more oftenly than anything to see if you posted haha Love you loadssss
Sir, loving books will NEVER be annoying. Lol. Anyways, you totally got this! One of my goals -- and I'm super REALLY excited I've kept up with this so far -- is to keep a book diary account on Instagram where I post a picture of what I'm currently reading and then discuss highlights from the book/my day. On this account at least I'm not trying to "Bookstagram" so hard and it's been really freeing.
Odin's child. Not translated to English yet but it is expected to be late 2020. It's a good fantasy series inspired by Nordic cultures at the same time as actually being written by a Nordic author.
I want 2020 to be the year I get through my physical tbr because I have books on my shelves that have been there for years!! I also want to start getting into audiobooks and borrowing library books more
Reading translated fiction is pretty easy for me because I mostly read in my native language (hungarian) and I just love YA books from the US.... Howewer, my goal is to read more in english and to try out different genres. And I love your videos! ❤
I read 102 books in 2015, and for me it was difficult because I am a SLOOOOOOOW reader. My advice is be prepared to make reading a priority over nearly everything else. Keep up with weekly/monthly goals, because once you fall behind, it’s daunting to catch back up. Not that you asked for advice! But hi. Good luck! Lovely goals. :)
Misery was my first King novel too and I really liked it! It took me a bit to get into because he's soooo descriptive in the beginning and it's like GET ON WITH IT, but once I got past that it was great!! 🙌
I set a goal for 85 books in 2019 and reached 99 books, which is an all-time high for me. I definitely have graphic novels and audiobooks on 2x speed to thank for that. This year I wanted to push that further and read 105. I'm definitely focusing on my physical TBR which is large and at least 100 or so books. So I'm confident I can do that, I just also want to focus on reading books I'm sure I'll actually enjoy instead of getting caught in the hype. Good luck on your goals!
Manga Monday is coming back!?! Yess, get excited y'all! And good luck with all your goals. I personally hope to read more manga this year, since I haven't really read much, but I love what I have read. :D
y'all apparently BKMRK is a publishing house. OOPS. I'll think up a new hashtag & pin it here. Any suggestions?!
BookmarkBrag? Don’t know if that’s a thing already or not. lol
What about BKMRKD for bookmarked or MCBM for my current bookmark
I've been putting cat things in sellotape for long. I still have my first cat's fur which I used as a bookmark for all the Harry Potter books. I wanted to take her to the hostel with me but couldn't so I settled for a flat piece of sellotaped fur
Just read Gunslinger. It's about the size of a book you usually prefer so you'll read it fine and it's the perfect introduction to Stephen King's magnum opus The Dark Tower

me sitting here wondering if jesse actually turned all his books around for those shots...
congrats to your determination cause i could never, ever put myself through that!
Iris Selmpesi me too
Ikr!
Yes, I was wondering what the heck that's about.
At first I thought that it was from the video last year when he turned a bunch of books backwards but I don't remember all of them being flipped
I love my books, I’d be much to worried that in the process of turning all of them around i’d bash them into the shelf and permanently mar them
Will I stop watching videos about reading books and actually read my books? Probably not
Juh Moroli same lol 😆
Jesse *has over 700 books*
Me *glances awkwardly at my bookshelf with 10 books*
Trust me
Some how books have babies and I used to own like 3 books now I own 50
(mostly because I discovered Thriftbooks.com and bought them for cheap.... 😂)
physically having books or a certain amount of books doesn't make you any more or less of a reader - it's what libraries and (free) ebooks are for!

It's two weeks into the new year and I've already crashed and burned.
There's still time to get back up and keep going!
@@jessethereader True but I need more Jesse videos to keep me motivated 😂
Then it's time to rise from the ashes.
Lol XD
Why does this remind me so much of myself 😂
You must've spent so much time turning all those books around
Hermes On the Run I was just about to say that
Hermes On the Run he probably only turned around the books that were in the shot lol
Rui S. That's still a lot of books
2019 was the year I finally got back into reading, and I read 12 books. I'm hoping to read 24 books this year!!
You can do it!
Are you done with the 24 books? 😊✌️
@@nonmetallica11 I'm at 9 so far!! I'm at least further along in my goal than this time last year :')

As someone who loves Stephen king, I think you would really enjoy The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. It's not as dark or horror as some of his other books and more character driven for sure. It's also really short so great for goodreads challenges
I highly agree with this recommendation! I got so attached to Trisha by the end 🥺😭
This was the Stephen King book I was going to recommend too! It was the book that first got me into Stephen King ❤️
i’m about to start my first stephen king book (dad got me IT for christmas) and i know i’ll enjoy it, but i also know it’s gonna take so long ;-;
It's one of my favorites as well!!! It's been so long I'll have to reread it!!
I would say Eyes of the Dragon, its shorter and more fantasy than horror. Aim for the shorter novels before committing to the tomes.

@@bcollienr1 ua-cam.com/video/w_DmnnD6evE/v-deo.html Here's the first link to get you started:) I hope you enjoy it!
Watching your videos help me get out of my reading slump, so thank you :)
Can we just appreciate how long it must have took to flip ALL those books backwards just for those scenes?
Also, don't forget that he would have to flip them BACK again after he finishes filming the video.
i may or may not have left the pages flipped out for a few days bc i was too lazy to flip them back lol
YO your individual review videos is why I fell in love with your channel and your opinions so I’m all about brining those lovelies back so you’ll have at least one viewer for those!
OMG
Love the intro💜❤️♥️
My bookish goals are to read 52 books this year, read the books I’ve owned for a really long time, and keep up with my book journal.
Japanese writer 东野圭吾He writes mysteries a lot!
I’ll look into it! Thank you! :)
I love The Road Back to You! It's just amazing! I also love you Jessie❤❤❤
I’m also trying to finish Throne of Glass and The Raven Cycle. 😊
Good Book Energy!!! obsessed
was anyone else trying to figure out how many of the books that were turned around you recognized haha
Loved this video! The editing was amazing, as always 👌 Your bookish goals are so cool! I feel very motivated for this reading year too 📚 Let’s go readers!
*me, an 11 year old, turning twelve this year*
2019 summer: read 70 ish books
*me, a 263 year old, turning 264 this year*
2020: read more books
Me: *okey dokie*
I read 120 books in the summer holidays once!
Roisin Abbott I could never. Congrats!
Me, 22: read 11 books last year. And that’s a lot for me 😢
@@jas6246 thank you
I'm a pretty busy person, so I am setting a REALLY low goal. I am setting a goal of 24 books a year. It's simple, reading two books a month. I won't be stressed or anything. So I think that's a good goal for me. Good luck on your goal!
2019 I read like 130 something books 😂 so 2020 my goal is 150. And then 2021 I think I’ll take a break and set my goal low
In my experience listening to Stephen Kings books were so much better. They weren’t as hard to get into as it was when I tried to set down and read them!
Happy reading 😊
My goals
Read 30 books
Finishing harry potter and narnia
Try not to buy books
And make a dent in my tbr
edit as an over acheaver goal read 45 books and have my tbr at zero
My goal this year is 23 books and I just want to get through my to-read pile! I have lots of eastern European authors as my priorities, as well as some classics like Dracula, 1984, 1Q84...
If you start a Stephen King goal you should read the long walk.
After a 2 year long reading slump I'm getting back into aggressively reading all the books I've been missing out on, thus my goal for 2020 is 35 books. It seems the most achievable considering school and everything but I really hope to get there! Best of luck to everyone else no matter how big or small your goal is ♥️♥️♥️
me on Goodreads setting my goal of 50: *sees someone set a goal of 12*
me: Psssh I'd hate to be the person who ONLY reads 12 books a year
seeing jessethereader set a goal for 75: I have not reached my full potential. There is a lot of work that must be done...
Good luck with your reading goals! I am leaving my reading slump in 2019 too. We don’t need that sort of negativity in our lives.
It's almost my birthday! Any books I should ask for? ✨🤗
Manou Gerards if you like historical fiction I recommend “When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit” by Judith Kerr. It’s really good.
The hunger games, if you haven't already read it that is
Marie Antoinette Ooh I'll check that out!
Roisin Abbott Read those already 😅 (and LOVED them)
Have you read the hobbit? It's really nice (it does feel like it's a bed time story, it's such a lovely feeling and a big plus if you like to do voices when reading) .
That was an encouraging video for making reading resolutions this year. (so true about jinxing the goals though 😭) Thank you Jesse 🌸
*Starts to realize their goal for 30 books isn't that impressive* lol
That is impressive because some people don't even get to 30 book a year.
It’s okay that’s my goal to
I was in a bad reading slump for the last few years and between the years 2016 and 2019 I barely read ten books. 30 is impressive
it’s great to see how excited you are about reading and your channel for this 2020. I’m rooting for you!
thanks Sara!! 🖤
translated work recs ehh: the gem series by kerstin gier (german) and the discovery of heaven by harry mulisch (dutch)
I've only challenged myself to read 30 books (I read 37 in 2019!) but I also want to read from more authors of color and more diverse stories.
We had to read The Elephant Vanishes for school and loved the short stories! I would totally recommend it!
It's a collection of short stories by Murakami btw, lol
My goal is to read at least 25 books this year and to write at least one full length novel. Also I am starting a booktube channel!!! You’ve inspired me. 😄
The Green Mile by Stephen King is absolutely FANTASTIC! It’s not horror but is a moving story about prison guards in the 1930s working on death row. It is really quite a gut wrenching story and is by far my favourite Stephen King.
I set my reading goal at 20 books because I’ve been failing at reading in college, but my YA lit class is helping me fly through so many!
"It's a book, calm down Nancy"
I'm laughing so hard 😂
Sir, loving books will NEVER be annoying. Lol. Anyways, you totally got this! One of my goals -- and I'm super REALLY excited I've kept up with this so far -- is to keep a book diary account on Instagram where I post a picture of what I'm currently reading and then discuss highlights from the book/my day. On this account at least I'm not trying to "Bookstagram" so hard and it's been really freeing.
That sounds really nice! Not having to focus on making sure your photos are aesthetic sounds like it could be VERY freeing. haha!
@@jessethereader Yeah, still working on dripping that mentality for main. Baby steps, right? 😂
Goooo Jesse!!
You got this! You're already doing so well so keep up the momentum. YEAHHHHHHH!
thanks kevin!! together we’ll slay 2020 🔥
I'm gonna read 1Q84 this year!! Murakami pals!!!
Odin's child. Not translated to English yet but it is expected to be late 2020. It's a good fantasy series inspired by Nordic cultures at the same time as actually being written by a Nordic author.
The best thing about reading journaling is sequels. That way you dont have to reread the same book 3 times, it is helping me complete series xx
Oh how I fail at my goals *every* year. I do hope to read more YA this year! Hear’s to a good 2020 Jesse!
Manga Monday is coming back!?! Yess, get excited y'all! And good luck with all your goals. I personally hope to read more manga this year, since I haven't really read much, but I love what I have read. :D
I really love your content!
I always read the books you read .
Love from India
