Not sure if anyone cares but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can stream all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother for the last couple of weeks xD
I started really strong, but just started slumping the closer we got to the end of the year... I'm not in it that deep anymore though, so that's a plus.
I lowered my goodreads goal twice this year cos I didn’t wanna stress myself out! It’s like, a challenge against myself so why stress. 🤷🏼♀️ Starsight is the second in a quartet. ;)
Being behind on all things and being a mess is a whole ass mood! Glad you got out of the reading slump though, I know it feels good. And I totally want this series as an official one!
I am a mood reader like you are so I have a little trick I started to do that has been working really well which I call my S.T.B.R.L. (soon to be read list) here is how it works: Have 10 books on a list. Read 7 so that you are down to 3 unread books. Add 7 new books to the list so that you are back to 10. If you have a book that is recurring and has been on your list for awhile take it off the list. This way I can stick to certain books I want off my T.B.R. but still have options to choose from to be able to satisfy my mood reading needs.
I adjusted my good reads goal to be 52 every year because last year, my goal was 90 books and I 100% read stuff to just get to the goal and ignored really long books like Way of Kings because it was "too long to read right now". I read Way of Kings this year and loved it. I realized I read books just to "get to the finish" line and I had turned my reading in to another task list to complete and that's not how I approach reading at all. Even with a goal of 52 books, I'm still around 60+ and I had way more fun this year reading some longer books and some shorter ones. The reading felt way more organic and fun.
I know the feeling about the goodreads goal. This year, was the first time in about 4 years that I hit my reading goal. It did bother me that I didn't meet my goal for a couple years, and I even changed my goal to a lower number, I still did not hit it. At some point you just have to realize that things happen and you need to just do what you can. Glad you are out of your book slump! I am scared that I might be entering one, but I should be able to kick it quickly with buddy reading Let It Snow with my Best Friend!
My challenge THIS year was to use my Sort It book app to randomly choose all of my reads for the year from what I own. I picked one by myself, but whatever. Anyway, it was WAY more of a success than I thought it would be. I may have discovered a new favorite author, I read a couple things that I had honestly thought I would declutter but then ended up loving. It really worked for me. For 2020 I’m going to continue that trend but with a little more purpose. I’ve picked 12 categories, and throughout the year, I HAVE to hit at least one book/series in that category. Categories like “Series I need to finish but haven’t” or “a book or series that has an upcoming adaptation” or “a book on my shelf that I’m not excited to read anymore”. And then beyond those categories, I can just meander to whatever else I want to pick up for the year, with no pressure of “I said I was going to read it, so I have GOT to read it.” This year had some major reading surprises, so I’m excited to see what this does for me next year.
Sure! I don’t know if I’m done yet, and they’re definitely tailored to what is languishing on my shelves, and fits me. So far there are 12, and I have several books to choose from in each. 1. An unread Brandon Sanderson book 2. A series of Robin Hobb’s Realm of the Elderlings 3. 2 new-to-me Stephen Kings. (Those are my 3 fave authors) 4. Classics: Collections of Poe OR Collections of Lovecraft (going go to poll to choose!) 5. A full YA series 6. Something from a genre I don’t typically read 7. A book I’ve had forever that I’ve lost excitement for 8. A book or series that has been or will be adapted 9. A series that I need to finish 10. A new release with a lot of hype 11. A popular fantasy series that I just haven’t gotten to yet 12. Star Wars! (I have an entire Star Wars bookcase that I didn’t read anything from this year...😬) I hope that helps you with choosing your own categories! 😊
I’m so happy you finally got out of your reading slump, and I thought this was already a series?! You should totally add kingdom of ash to your list of books to read in 2020 now that you finished a map of days but I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Congrats on finally finishing A Map of Days! Also, you displayed a great mindset about your writing life and rhythm. I hope that your writing first and foremost rejuvenates you--ups and downs and all. I want to band together with my friends and have each of us create our own "20 reading goals for 2020," rather than picking up a standard list of goals. I don't have my list finished yet, but "Read a book with an 'ugly' cover" is definitely already on it because I am a TERRIBLE superficial book-picker-upper.
I literally have a book shelf above my bed, so books in bed is my life! 💜 (It’s like built in to my headboard) Also the most resent book I finished was Echo by Pam Muñoz Ryan! It was so good! 🤩
I just got out of my first HUGE reading slump since like the beginning of summer and now I'm taking every book recommendation I can get so I'm gonna read that book now... 🤗
Tip: Make a physical list of all the books you want to read, whether it be on your phone or a piece of paper (or multiple pieces of paper). Put a checkbox next to each, and follow that list, in or out of order. I did this, and it honestly helped.
I love the idea of Books in Bed series! I'm also totally feeling the "eager for a fresh start in 2020 vibe". I hope to get to through the releases from this year next year 😂

I could relate to this so much. I had been in a reading slump for a couple of months until about a few weeks ago. Now Ive been doing nothing but read books and think about books. I thought I was never going to get out of my reading slump but here I am.
The most important thing about being a Reader is to remember why you read...because you LOVE to! 😁📚 A challenge is great and all, but doesn't specify how much or how less of a Reader we are. It's beautiful to read what we want and can! Our passion for our leafed little children is what matters most! No challenge can ever measure our love for books! 💞
Before the end of the year I’m trying to finish “Crown of Coral and Pearl”, by Mara Rutherford, highly recommend it’s got me hooked. Then “The Thousandth Floor” trilogy by Katharine McGee
This should totally be a series. Cause in these you can just talk about whatever you want without the entire video being on one set topic or tag or challenge. It’s super fun. Gives us a chance to just like hang out. Anybody else feel the same?
1. Please make this a series it’s amazing!!! 2. I’m doing the A-Z reading challenge and I’m going to do the magical read-a-thons 3. I’m going to finish The Mermaid’s Voice Returns in This One by Amanda Lovelace, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, and Pillow Thoughts by Courtney Peppernell. I’m going to start (and hopefully finish) A Glimmer of Hope by The Founders of March For Our Lives.
Yes make Books in Bed a series! I am also ready for all the new books in 2020! I am already making my list and I am not even done with my goal this year!! Ah!!
Okay I'm living for you writing a book! I need it when you finish it! Good luck and sending good writing vibes your way! Also yes, Books in Bed, the series. Do it!!
Have you seen Lore Olympus?? It's a webtoon based on the love story of Hades and Persephone but in a modern scenario. OMG! You'll love it!! It's PJO-ish and truly amazing!!!
Ok, so I’m glad it’s just quitting your challenge xD I was like “why are you leaving Goodreads?” I met my goal, but I’ve been busy with school and I have so many books I want to read that it’s overwhelming me. My tip for breaking slumps is trying a new genre or a short genre (like graphic novels or nonfiction)
I definitely start thinking about the New Year when November hits. One of the reading challenges I am thinking of trying is choosing a category from the Goodreads Choice Awards and reading every winner from that category in previous years.
I had read Beloved on audio and I really wanted it and while on vacation on black Friday I found it and I got it for myself. For Christmas I got myself It, the sun is also a star, the outsiders, and beloved so excited for next year
Couple different things. Yes, you could make this a series. It's so chill, and I love it!! Secondly, the book I wanna read before the end of the year (yes, singular, I'm going easy on myself) is Again But Better. I bought it months ago, but uni homework has prevented me from reading it!! So that's gonna be my Christmas break lol
Next year my hopeful goal is to read 50 books next year, with a priority on each month reading one nonfiction, one LGBT book, one new release, and one owned book. It's ok if any of those categories overlap! This year my goal was to read 2 books a month (one new release & one LGBT) and I actually read 43 and counting :D Before the end of the year, I'm planning on finishing Great Expectations and reading Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams. Any other books depends on what my library decides to send me haha
Definitely make this a series. I'm planning on finishing rereading the PJO series, Everything Everything, The sun is also a star and the first book in The Kane Chronicles
Dude I totally understand the Goodreads goal thing. I am exactly 22 books behind for my goal too. I love the GR reading challenge though and whatever I finish at this year is awesome but best believe I am going to really try to get it close.
YES! you're on a writing journey too! yippee! That makes me so happy! haha =D I'm currently still thinking about my grand story idea and where I want it to go with it, but it's all part of the fun! ; P Also, I too am in 2020 mode. This year went so fast, I cannot believe it. Every year is just faster than the one before it, heheh...but anyway, next year I will be a college graduate, so I hope to meet my reading goal which is at least 50 books. As of now, I'm just completing what I can, as far as reading =)
I personally love the books in bed series (yes, it should be a series and I’m 100% going to call it that !) also, Romanov is SO. GOOD. I read it a little after it came out and it’s so worth it. I hope you enjoy it if and when you get to it ! :)
This NEEDS to be a series. Haven’t read Starsight(also loved Skyward.) yet. But it’s one of the books I’m going to read next. Also according to Goodreads the Skyward series is a 4 book series. With the 3rd coming out in 2021. 2 YEARS. Which Is too long. As for 2020, I look forward to read all the exciting new releases coming out. Both new series and sequels.
I think this needs to be an official series! I loved Romanov! My first Anastasia story and my first book by Nadine! I'm so excited to read Coral! I LOVE The Little Mermaid so much! Coral is the next book I'm reading! Although, after Coral I have no idea what I want to read next...Still have plenty of time to figure that out!
Oooh my good Pleasee read Romanov its such a beautiful book with such a beautiful beautiful message of the power of family and the romance between nastia and zash is also beautiful its in my favourites of the year ❤❤
Hello Jesse So, books that I will try read before the end of the month: “Lady Renagates” “Sorcery of Thorns” “Romanov” (like you) “The Hate U Give” “Ziggy, Stardust & me” And two more in my mother language, portuguese. (I am portuguese living in Slovakia). I want to know your chalenges for the new year because I had been in a reading slump too. Usually I read more then 100 books and this year I read 11. But 7 of them was in the last month, soo I believe that I am in a good way. I didn’t participate in Nano, but I started writing and I am very proud with my first draft, soo far.

Hello Jesse
So, books that I will try read before the end of the month:
“Lady Renagates”
“Sorcery of Thorns”
“Romanov” (like you)
“The Hate U Give”
“Ziggy, Stardust & me”
And two more in my mother language, portuguese.
